ChatGPT says that I can make my own workstation based on thread ripper and an A300 nvidea GPU. The motherboard I’m looking at can old a terabyte of RAM.

ChatGPT admits that it’s a full retard move, but says that if I put it on a payment plan and whore my computer out as a cloud based workstation, I can break even on the build after a couple of years assuming it doesn’t die. Budget would be 10-12 grand

My question is how retarded is this on a scale of “open borders for Israel” verses “they are our greatest ally.”

I want to build my own jailbroke LLM that I can train to help me write explicit content.

I don't feel like it's worth a thread, but this video, from here, should be required viewing for people wanting to know why 5090s catch fire and x3d cpu are scorching.

>>
>>106861206
Anon… no. I love all humans. Hate has no place in my heart. Please don’t imply I’m a racist. God made all humans with the spark of the divine. I’ve tried to explain this to LLMs but they insist jews are humans. I’m tried anon…

Also, I would like being able to have an LLM give me feedback on general sex scenes and stuff like that, or role play as a butt naked fox girl trying to flee unsuccessfully from a pack of niggers.

Anyway… any advice is welcome. I built my own computer twice… but that was 2010 and 2014… so yeah.

I have a Ryzen R7-1800X sitting in an Asus X370 motherboard (ROG hero crosshair something, forget the exact model, but top tier for the time), and 32GB of Samsung die 3200MHz CL14 memory because Ryzen used to be really picky with RAM. I was looking to upgrade from my AMD RX590 8GB GPU to an RX 9070XT and figured I should also do my CPU. I can get a brand new R7-5800XT for $150. Is this combo enough for modern day gaming?
>>
>>106861255

Sounds like no worries.

fwiw, think deeply about if you want to do ai. The 9070 is the best amd has ever done re ai, but uh... basically if you want to do ai, you should do nvidia.

I hate nvidia personally and will never buy their gpu, because I think their qc is crap, but the software is written for nvidia, especially cuda.

Things will likely change within 6-12 months. amd is working hard on this, and so is intel.

How strict are graphics cards when it comes to needing a specific motherboard generation to use? Is it as bad as am4/5 where you need an am5 board to use an x3d chip? Or in 5 years when the 7000 series cards are coming out should I be able to still use one on my current am5 board or will I be forced to upgrade to the am6 or whatever is out at the time as well?
>>
This new AMD gpu innovation seems either like a jewish marketing trick which ends up being a 20-30% improvement in ray tracing, OR it looks like they EoL yet another generation right after it releases, can't decide which one is more likely to be true
>>
>>106861615
>Is it as bad as am4/5 where you need an am5 board to use an x3d chip?

fuck me the niggers are low IQ in this thread

>>
>>106861615
The only compatibility issues you'll face with newer cards is if you're stuck on a 4th gen or older intel system that can't initialize the GPU because it doesn't have uefi boot
Otherwise any GPU can fit in any motherboard regardless of pcie generation since they're designed to be interoperable
>>
Reminder that battlefield 6 nvidia has a small advantage right now only because AMD has not finished working on the final optimized driver for it. The one that came out today giving support is only a preview. I expect with the full driver things will flip even since radeon is usually faster in these types of games à la call of duty.

people used to shit on them a bit but seems like they are better now?(i don't be keeping up with this shit)
>>
>>106863176
Check CMR vs SMR drives, check the device that you are buying is the kind of drive that you want.
>>
>>106863176
All consumer HDDs are cost-cut trash nowadays. If it's for replaceable stuff like movies/TV you can just buy whatever is cheapest. Hope that SMART throws an error before it dies. If you actually care about the data you should RAID it (and will need CMR per >>106863190).
>>
>>106863242
You can still buy Ironwolf, Ironwolf Pro, WD DC Series, they are prosumer and still good I think.
>>
>>106863256
Yes the prosumer stuff is better but it still suffers from the race-to-the-bottom mentality. Not to say that the actual pro models don't; just that big corps are more likely to sue if they go under-spec. I wouldn't recommend buying enterprise drives either btw. - too many refurbished models masquerading as new. Best thing to do is buy two of the cheapest CMR drives (which are often NAS models like you said).

Ok I want your help guys and your opinion.

I'm building a new PC after 10 years mainly for gaming and some simple video editing.

CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
VGA - RX 9070 XT

Now what I wanted to ask is the following, I'm an old guy, and I'm playing at a 1080p monitor. I won't be getting a new monitor any time soon and from what I've been reading, that CPU+VGA combo is a complete overkill for 1080p gaming.

My question is, if I continue playing games for the next 10 years with that PC, going for the overkill at 1080p, is it gonna offer some future proofing or is that a retarded way of thinking and shopping for a new PC?
I don't want to build new PC every 5 years.

My current pc is a GTX970 paired with an i5-6500.
Pic unrelated
>>
>>106863377
Well if you absolutely insist on keeping the rig as-is for 10 years overkill is the only way to go. It's maybe even a little weak for that but realistically the next step up is a 5090 so that hardly matters.
If you were willing to do a mid-cycle upgrade I'd suggest to drop the CPU back to a 7800X3D (assuming it's still at $340) with the intention of an EOL AM5 upgrade plus whatever card is best at the time.
>>
>>106863377
>My question is, if I continue playing games for the next 10 years with that PC, going for the overkill at 1080p, is it gonna offer some future proofing or is that a retarded way of thinking and shopping for a new PC?
No, that's a pretty fair outlook if you keep the monitor/resolution constant. What I will say is that 9800X3D isn't THAT much faster than the prior-gen 7800X3D on the same socket motherboard and is not worth the premium you'd pay for it at the moment with the 7800X3D on serious discount. AM5 will be supported for at least another 2 generations (or ~4 years) until DDR6 RAM comes out so the money you'd save forgoing the fastest chip now would get you a future flagship CPU as a drop-in upgrade to extend the system's lifespan then when the core counts and CPU performance differences are greater. See also these (and picrel):

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3hyH99/amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d-42-ghz-8-core-processor-100-100000910wof ($320)

Also depending on how often you upgrade GPUs, you might consider the 5070 Ti as Nvidia pays their larger driver team to support their cards for a longer period of software/game legacy updates than AMD does for their Radeon Graphics Division (I'd say if you plan to keep this card for like 6-7+ years it's a worthwhile consideration).

You probably will want a new card at around the same time. Basically I was suggesting you change your upgrade cadence from ~10 to ~5 years. That's assuming you're still into AAA stuff - if not then a 7800X3D+9070XT would probably be enough to go the distance on its own. In which case you just saved $200. Stick it in your 401k.

Of the two, easily the 5080. As it should be for $300 ($400?) more.
5070Ti vs. 9070XT is more interesting. The Nvidia card has a repeatable but small edge in performance but also costs anywhere from $100 to $250 more depending on discounts etc. With RDNA4's improved feature set it's definitely not worth $250 extra but it might well be worth $100. Your call.

They're vastly faster at reading/moving large files (GB+ scale) but only slightly faster at small file operations which is the majority of consumer use (OS, game loading, web browsing, etc.). Main thing these days is that NVMe costs the same, or less, than SATA so there's no reason not to use it if you can.

FUCCCCKKKKKK why did the supers have to be delayed :( :( :(
I got everything for my build I wanted except a card with more than 16gb vram. But I can't wait a year for them to come out and prices to normalize.
My only hope is getting a 5070ti now and selling it to my schizo (real) brother later on. He needs the upgrade badly and it would work out for both of us but talking to him and getting him to think about anything is a huge gamble. Otherwise I'm stuck trying to sell it on ebay with everyone else dumping their non super cards and will get completely fucked.
>>
>>106864776
if you need vram so much just buy a 5090
>>
>>106864776
buy a 5070TI use it
buy a whatever super fits you
sell your 5070TI to a random for 200€ loss, the price of having rented it for 8 months (the supers aren't coming out tomorrow)
there wont be a thousand million cards being sold, not everybody is jumping from a 50 series to a 50 series super
dont mess with your schizo brother
>>
>>106864792
I'm in that shitty position where I can afford a 5080 at most. Double that just isn't in the cards.
>>
>>106864800

>>106864799
I've never sold a used pc part before. I assume most people do it on ebay right? Is it really that easy to sell one for most of what you bought it? I looked on there and there are tons of cards figured most of them never get sold until people drop the prices a ton.
>>
>>106864776
Only the 5070 Super is worth waiting for because of how VRAM gimped the vanilla card is and it being the only model that will get a shader count boost. If you had eyes on the 5070 Ti or 5080 models just grab a (sub) MSRP model between now and Black Friday when a deal pops up.
>>
>>106864806
No but I got a 4k big screen tv to play games on. I've been doing some googling and people are saying modern games are already pushing 16gb vram with 4k textures and such.
This build is supposed to be a one time expenditure that would last me another 10 years. Feels like whatever card I get now isn't going to be very future proofed. I would like to have that extra vram so games that come out in 3 or 4 years aren't cock blocking me.

Are fully modular PSU a meme for a regular joe user like me?
Seems like im paying an extra 15% on the same psu for it to be fully modular when 99% of the builds (again for a regular joe like me) will use the shit that is fixed
A semi modular is a no brainer obviously
I assume fully modular are for people that are making some crazy ass shit or want higher quality/thinner/custom cables?
forgive my retardation, im new to this shit
>>
>>106864810
I personally use an specific platform to my country and for a valuable item i would set it to only be dealt with in hand and not just send it anywhere
That said i have bought and sold a lot of stuff 2nd hand through that platform and only have had 1 problem on a 20€ item
Never used ebay personally
>>
>>106864824
seems kinda pedestrian to buy a non modular psu
>>
>>106864824
If the Semi-modular SKU is on sale sure go for it as all systems need the 24-pin ATX/8-pin EPS cables connected. Aside from convenience while building, the modularity feature culls much of the lower quality models based on outdated/cost-cut platforms from the selection process. No company wants to sell a really high-performance unit with a modern design and quality internals with a fixed cable system these days,
>>
>>106864824
They're much easier to build with, you won't have to hide a bunch of cables that you're not even using. In the event of a failure, you can just swap the cable but I've never run into a bad PSU cable, it's usually the PSU itself that fails before anything else. The only thing that was cool for me with modular cables was being able to buy a 12VHPWR cable made for my PSU, and I didn't have to adapt anything or buy a new one. I'd say modular is pretty much essential on small formfactor builds, but you can probably get away with hiding all the cables you don't need on just about any ATX case. But once you go up in wattage, it's hard to find decent nonmodular PSUs anyway. They're all some random brands like PSYKOCHINK and I don't trust that for a PSU, I need a reputable brand with a good warranty.
>>
>>106864823
There's no good option now, not even the 5090 because of its connector and tdp.
I'd say the best move is to get a 5070ti now and then upgrade to a 6080 or 7080 whenever you need more vram
>>
>>106864839
Guess I need to do some more research in reselling. Think I'll try talking to my brother first though, it's his birthday today. Might be able to catch him in a cogent mood. It would really be a benefit for both of us if I could get him to agree. He built a new computer last year and upgraded everything except his graphics card which he carried over from his old one its a 2070 super I think. A 5070ti would be a huge upgrade for him and he would be getting it from someone he knows and I'd sell it at a big discount of course. And it would help me pay for the super upgrade.
But you just never know with him, the wrong thing said or done can send him in a spiral that takes weeks to recover from.
All the tech in the world and we still have no clue how to fix brains, I would trade it all if I could make him normal. He lives in a hell most of us can't even imagine.

You open a game and on graphics they will have an option called
>Fake Frames Generation DLSS(njudea) FSR(aylmaod) None
You just activate one or the other or none.
Same with upscaling and sharpening of image.
>>
>>106864905
Upscaling and frame generation are usually just in the settings. If for whatever reason the game you're playing forces it on, you can just disable it in the driver settings. DLSS upscaling is cool, frame gen kinda sucks unless you have a good frame rate to begin with or if you need it for a game with a lot of ray tracing.

Even the game menu says its only recced for 40xx or newer gpus and ampere should stick with cnn.

Also most people don't have a 3080, they have something like a 3060 or 2060 where the hit is noticable but still less than 10% at 1080p.
On some of the laptop gpus + higher resolutions the hit could be bigger

Fuck Amazon I'm seething. Ordered this thing and specifically set the delivery date for the 15th because I knew I would be there. Not even thinking about it but check on a different order and I see the invoice for the psu saying it was delivered yesterday. They gave me no notice, no email or anything saying they were sending it early. I was here all day yesterday there was no knock on my door. It was sitting outside all day and night. Plus it doesn't fit the box and was just bouncing around inside there was no padding.
Really upset if this thing doesn't work or fries my computer I'm going to go postal.

Nah, it's gonna be like crypto where it keeps going with diminishing returns. Bitcoin broke its ATH last month, but you didn't hear much about it because of the monumental effort it took to accomplish this. Some banks are "predicting" (actually just trying to bait normalfags into buying) that we'll see $200K bitcoins soon, but even with modern institutional support it will take moving heaven and earth just to get to a hypothetical $150K figure. Same with AI, they're already hitting limits with how much power they can give to LLM's, hence all the shit happening like Microsoft buying up nuclear power plants just to power their datacenters. All of the sudden nuclear is now good enough for all these companies pretending to care about green energy earlier after all these years of stigma!

I don't usually post in here but I'm looking to do another build and have a few questions:

● What is the age at which it's considered too dangerous to use a given power supply? I have a PSU from an older build that I'm planning to repurpose, but it's almost 10 years old so I'm afraid I'm putting together a bomb by continuing to use it. The same goes for its motherboard; it still works fine, but it's also almost 10 years old and is also a Gigabyte board which I heard some bad things about.
● I have plans to turn my current daily driver into a NAS server and want to replace its (malfunctioning!) motherboard with a giant E-ATX board that I can plug a ton of hard drives into. What are the current manufacturers I should avoid? Several years ago it was Gigabyte and a few years ago it was Asus, but I'm not on /g/ much anymore so I'm not up to speed on what the current bad manufacturer is.
● This is more of a /mkg/ question, and I'm planning to ask this there too, but what are some good places to buy new keycaps at? The ones on my work keyboard are all faded.

>5700g or 5950x for local AI stuff?
Depends on your training setup. If it's all going on the GPU you could get away with a cheaper CPU but maybe go 5950X anyway for VMs etc.

>will I have pcie lines for sata extension card to attach 4+ sata ssd/hdd?
You should have enough lanes but might be limited by the physical slot config. Make sure the SATA adapter is x1 if your 10G card is x4 or higher (or vice versa).

>64g 3600mhz kit
Bit of silicon/mobo lottery involved in getting that to run XMP. Should be fine at 3200 though.
>>
>>106865497
>What is the age at which it's considered too dangerous to use a given power supply?
Right about 10 years IMO. Unless the warranty was longer I suppose.

>What are the current manufacturers I should avoid?
Doesn't make sense if you're reusing the CPU. You'll need a board from back when that CPU came out but finding an appropriate used E-ATX board will be hard enough before brand even comes in to it. Plus it'd almost certainly be cheaper to get a mainstream ATX board and a HBA card.

The fact that their CPUs & GPUs share the same process node and AMD obviously favors their higher margin server chips is actively harming Radeon Graphics. They either need to spin it off, or separate out their manufacturing lines so both designs have place orders in volume without cannibalizing each other. On that note couldn't Intel & Nvidia make an agreement to buy up all of TSMC's wafer allocation and prevent AMD from selling ANY processors OR graphics cards unless they were forced to Samsung?
>>

Going from a 1080ti and i7 8700k from 2018 to a 9070xt and 9800x3d. I'd like it to last just as long if not longer than my current build. I'm waiting for lower RAM prices, and trying to figure out which of the 9070xts will last the longest if I don't OC. I think I know what case I want. I want to play Borderlands 4 (only one that runs like shit on my build), I like playing heavily modded single player games like Skyrim and Fo4, Rimworld, Cyberpunk, Risk of Rain 2. Not a huge FPS player, don't care about Call of Duty or BF. Would Like to play Blade and Sorcery on my Quest 3 without lagging. Any recommendations? I can also be patient (I think) for Black Friday/Cyber Monday/Whatever deals, but I would like to finish the build before the end of the year.

7700XT was also awfully priced card.
7800XT was better deal and better comparison point, used the same die as 7700XT but came with 16GB.
9070 simply should be cheaper by another $50. Lower end models used to give you better price to performance ratio but not anymore.
9070XT also came out with fake price, you could not find MSRP cards for very long time.
>>
>>106866331
If you look at raytracing performance, 5700XT does better than Vega
they were trying to cut down on "dead weight", or too much compute, not enough raster
>>
>>106865071
on 20xx and 30xx transformer is only better if you can take ray reconstruct off in game. Otherwise FPS hog.
>>
>>106866373
The 7700 XT to 7800 XT is the same thing now with the 9070 to 9070 XT but now as you've said fake MSRPs
Upsell 50$
Radeon really doesn't care, milking the last of their customers
Now they need to be 40% cheaper than their counterparts for me to even consider them

The 7800X3D is a far better buy right now as AMD's asking price for the 9800X3D is not commensurate with it's performance uplift.

AMD cant price the same as Nvidia

>>
>>106866529
If the demand is higher than what they can supply the retailers and AIBs will simply bump the prices anyway.
-$100 coupon on a $400 or $600 GPU is all they need, -$50 isn't cutting it.
But at the same time normalfags will keep buying nV because laptops never come with Radeon.

No one at AyyMD or nV will give us sales numbers for specific products.
But if you look at $team survey you can notice low end craptop GPUs are the most popular kind.
AMD has no products in this category.
Pre-builts usually also come with nV and this is another large part of the market.
So there is more to their shitty market share than simply selling cheaper than nV.

>>106866456

Regardless, 5070 doesn't benefit much from slamming the power limit to 300w (max with any bios until we get super cards)

I already bought the PSU and MoBo on sale, unless there’s something wrong with them I don’t plan on returning them. Though maybe I bought them too early when I don’t have the other parts.

The RAM brand doesn’t matter, but would I need more than 32GBs if Im not doing much other than gaming? If it goes on sale for a decent price, maybe I’ll shoot for 64GB.

Thanks for linking that chart, I’ll likely get the 7800x3d instead. I won’t lie, despite the chart I am still kind of holding out for 9800x3d going on sale but if a good 9070xt price comes out, I’ll stick with the 7800x3d buy them both so I can start building.
