I think HDMI 2.1 mostly matters if you're console gaming and want VRR compatibility.
DisplayPort 2.1 with UHBR20 offers maximum bandwidth and doesn't need DSC for higher res/refresh rate, but this is a novelty at this point (with very few monitors supporting this).
miniLED is a subjective choice, check out MSI's new E16M 27" 4K miniLED IPS monitor.
Watch the local dimming backlight blooming section in Monitors Unboxed.

If you want an HDR-capable monitor, look for these certifications.
DisplayHDR 1000 (or higher) for miniLED.
DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 or 500 for OLED monitors (the higher the better).

Plain LCD monitors aren't good enough for HDR.
HDR TrueBlack 500 is limited to a few 1440p OLED monitors atm.

>>

>>
>>106878189

Yes, but the image may appear blurry.
>>
Would it be worth getting a new motherboard that supports PCIe 4.0? For both M.2 and GPU?
Someone gave me their old B450 and it's still in 3.0 so I dunno if it's worth the speed I'm losing if I can get a B550 for like $100.
>>
>>106878198
>>106878202
Does up scaling really compensate for frames that much?
Is 4k even worth it for like a 50 in TV?
>>
>>106878242
Check out some PCIe Gen 3 x16 video card benchmarks.
There's a performance penalty if your card only has x8 active lanes (G4 x8 to G3 x8).
The performance hit isn't usually that bad for cards with x16 PCie lanes.
>>
>>106878244
Yes. DLSS is/was a huge deal , games are even mostly optimized around you using it now. For 4k you want the dlss performance setting usually, which would be 1080p internal while still looking good.
>>
>>106878242
PCIE 3x8 is when shit starts to be very very bad
x16 should be okayish
>>
>>106878244
once you're past the 40 inch mark, 4k is kinda mandatory and anything less will look like shit due to poor pixel density anon.

If you're looking at using a tv as a monitor as a principle, thats the 4k realm only, anything else will look like trash.
>>
>>106878244
good luck finding a TV that isn't 4K
>>
>>106878270
>>106878317
I see, just searched some quick videos and benchmarks. x16 seems to do just fine on both.
I'll just stay with it then, thanks.
>>
>>106878244
if you do have issues it'd most likely be a CPU too weak to push frames to the GPU
but that's what socket longevity is for
>>
>>106877487
I'm ready to upgrade my ancient PC, everything still works but the CPU (an i7 7700) is feeling a bit slow now.
I'm keeping my 3060ti, so what would be a good AMD mother/CPU combo to pair with that card? Anything modern would be an improvement over my old i7 I assume. I don't mind moving to DDR5 and/or buying a new power supply if needed. (Asking for AMD cause I tend to keep my builds for several years and I heard latest Intel gens are literally rusting away)
My use case is mostly gaming, I don't play the latest AAA stuff but I do want to fully utilize my 3060ti at 1080p without my CPU dragging it down. I also do light video/audio editing in 1080p, no 4k or HDR or anything like that.
Thanks anons!
>>
I just found out that the Hyper 212 LED comes with a loop thing to hook on to the "hooks" surrounding an AMD socket. Am I wrong in assuming that this could be used to mount to AM4 or even AM5?

265K has much better power efficiency
14700K has much better gaming performance
you have to decide what you care about more, both are fairly equal in MT performance (the 265K should be much stronger in theory but the removal of hyperthreading hurts it in some workloads)

I mean, it mentions AM2+, AM3, AM3+ and AM4 (though apparently the last one requires an upgrade kit?) The manual even seems to show two different approaches to mounting on an AMD motherboard, if I'm reading it right

From what I understand, any AM4 cooler would work with AM5 as long as it doesn't need its own backplate. It's hard to tell where this cooler falls under in that regard.

hello pcbg, I am currently deciding on continuing to buy my original choice of 9070 XT pulse by sapphire with the gigabyte b850 aorus elite at end of month. Has there been any serious updates since May about these parts? I'm currently switching from b650 asrock steel legend motherboardbecause of the earlier mass reports of 9800x3ds going on fire with the asrock pair. Has there been a new contender vs 9070 xt for performance to price ratio? your insight would be really appreciated

>Has there been a new contender vs 9070 xt for performance to price ratio
Yeah, the 5070 non-ti
5070ti regardless of raster price to performance is a better gpu than the 9070xt, it's basically the same price as the 9070xt now too.

It's weird how this general went from shilling AIO's to shilling air coolers again. I remember just a couple months ago and this place would call you an idiot for not wanting an aio. You completely downplayed the risks of watercooling and said it basically never explodes water and breaks your computer. And you also need it because it makes your cpu so much cooler.
But I don't see that anymore and most are shilling air again. What changed?
>>
>>106880160
I have the PG32UDCP and the main thing I bought it for was because there was no fan. Aside from firmware differences it's not any different than the others for that particular LG WOLED panel.
The Asus also has a KVM but aside from using it on my phone once for Dex, I've never used it again.
Not sure what the differences between the Samsung OLEDs are but I'm sure the differences are similar.

Mine was like $50 more than the others, but I wouldn't pay hundreds of dollars more for no fan. The stands on Asus monitors are also ass so take that into consideration too
>>
>>106880236
nothing has changed you're just a schizo
>>
>>106880332
I dunno, I've been following this general religiously for awhile now and it definitely feels like people are becoming less hardline pushing aio's.

Is buying a 90 series gpu a cheat code for free gpu's for life? The 4090 sells for more than a new 5090 right now. Wouldn't that be the case for the 5090 while the 6000 series is alive and so on? Wondering if a one time investment would pay off in the long run.
>>
>>106880236
Air coolers got alot cheaper.
When it was a Noctua at $80 and an Arctic AIO was similar, you might as well get the AIO if you aren't paranoid. That's the rational explanation.
Now that a high-end air cooler can be had for under $40, it doesn't make as much sense for an AIO.

My own personal illogical conspiracy is that AIOs where a high margin item and thus you had people shilling for them for the good of the companies making them. But since Thermalright has brutalized the AIO market just like they did the heatsink market, it's no longer a cash cow.
I honesty think what's why mainstream reviewers avoided Thermalright AIOs for so long and some continue to avoid them because how can you go back to selling $150 360mm AIOs when TR is selling them for $60?
>>
I just finished building my pc and got post into bios first try

>>
>>106880415
Do you think Thermalright AIO is better or equal to the arctic liquid freezer 3 pro? I ordered the latter because everything says it's the best cooling there is. But there's also endless complaints about the installation, how the screws are difficult for some reason. It really has me worried and wondering if I should go for a different brand but I just don't know enough about them in general. I've had a noctua fan for the last 12 years. Decided I would try the other side this time. Do you have any personal recommendations for aio coolers?

>>106880437
I don't have any experience with the Arctic but I have bought a TR.
I think you might have difficulties if you never installed an AIO before, I had issues with a TR because the tubes where tugging on the block making it had for the screws to catch.
I would by a TR again because it's going to be easier a second time and $50 vs $90 for an arctic is kinda of a no brainer for my cheap ass

>>106880452
These things are kinda ass unfortunately.
They work by using a virtual GPU and they use compression to send it down USB
Since this "GPU" is software based it takes lots of CPU power.
The use case is for adding a second screen or even multiple screens and they can support some really high resolution displays but it's meant for office work, don't expect any real acceleration

>>
>>106880695
Not a game changer but it certainly is different. Mostly in the available amount of customization. You can change the pressure it takes to press a key, if you want a tactile bump or no bump at all. Certain ones you can change how far down you have to press the key to activate it. You can also change what keys do what, although some non mechanical keyboards can do that as well.
There's a large world of hobbiest mechanical keyboard stuff. But if you just want to dip your toes there's a bunch of 50-100 dollar mech keyboards on amazon that are very good.
This channel usually has decent info, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgu3zwvKVFw
I can vouch for this one personally, I got it just for a larp because of how it looked and it ended up being way better than I was expecting. Only reason I didn't keep it was because of how heavy it was and I wanted a lighter keyboard. https://a.co/d/8d4fxNb

I'm the guy with the broken psu who's been posting the last two days. I can't remember a lot of my specs, but I threw together in PCpartpicker some parts I remembered + estimates, and it comes out to around 600watts. So let's round it up just another 100 to 700 in case I'm forgetting something
Would 850 be enough to cover that or should I stick with getting another 1000w? Electricity kinda spooks me. I don't overclock anything (at least nothing that's not the basic recommended OC in the bios that everyone tells you to do). I feel like when I bought the 1000w PSU it was done as a sort of "future proof" in case I upgraded but thatd be kinda unlikely regardless.

This is something I'd buy & build atm.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mnXHPJ

But the memory kit is being imported from Amazon Germany (free international shipping).
It's a decent CL28 kit, but you can get a 6000MT/s CL30 kit for faster delivery. Memory price seems kind of fucked atm.
This 6400MT/s kit is more reasonably priced, but you might have to go to the BIOS and downclock it to 6000MT/s and set standard CL30 primary timings like 30-40-40 or 30-38-38.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/J7MMnQ/klevv-bolt-v-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr5-6400-cl32-memory-kd5agua80-64a320h

The Meshify 3 case is not usually sold for $116. It's a decent deal for this price.
I'd buy it right away since the bundled fans are good and B&H is supposed to end this deal on the 13th.
The only bad thing about this case is the top panel being limited to 280mm radiators.

You can swap the CPU to 7600X and wait for a Zen 6 -X3D CPU in the future, the resale value for the 7600X shouldn't go under $100 by that time.

5070 Ti is also fine, I would get the Zotac Core card near $750, the other models near that price have thinner coolers (small form factor friendly cards).

Going by the 7800X3D benchmarks, 7600X3D should be fine for 1440p gaming unless you play games that scale well with over 12 CPU threads.

>Also, the mobos that come the bundles, are they plug and play, or will I need to bios flash or whatever?
If you're going to buy the Microcenter bundle, ask the store employee to flash the latest stable BIOS for you.
Be prepared to do the BIOS flashback yourself in the worst case; the major AIBs share instructions for this process.

Late next year the earliest, AMD's killing Intel atm and ramped up Zen 5 -X3D production.

AMD GPUs struggling to run OpenGL applications that weaker Nvidia GPUs breeze through. Why do you think everyone pushed for that Vulkan shit to become the industry standard? So AMD doesn't have to fix their unusable OpenGL drivers under Windows.

Did you ever try playing OpenGL games on AMD pre-2022? If yes, you were getting half the performance you should've been getting.
I'm not talking crashes or glitches, I mean the GPU just can't accelerate OpenGL applications properly. An Nvidia and AMD GPUs that were shoulder to shoulder in DirectX games would have a huge gap if OpenGL was involved, in favor of Nvidia being better.

Do people nowadays not start out with PCs, at age 7, with whatever shitty desktop/laptop their dad had for pirating movies and shitposting on news websites?
You're sovless if you've never had to game on Intel GMA graphics.

there's a slight selection bias because someone who has a vague idea of how to build a PC is going to ask more targeted questions than "is 5080 and 9800X3D good"

im gonna build a fresh rig and i see a massive offer , a seller sells 7800x3d tray for 300usd and i want to jump on it (50 previous purchasers confirmed that its genuine) should i get it or wait for the zen 5 refresh ??/ i mean the upcoming 9600x3d or 9700x3d can offer the same or 4-5 fps more at 2k ? what should i do bros every suggestion will be appreciated

OP ignoring the 5070 should be a crime. You really don't need more for 1440p gaming in current year 2020+5 and going for the 5060 Ti just for the extra VRAM is stupid when that card will start chugging hard by the time you turn up enough settings and high resolutions to fill up 16GB.

I have a 3600x and I need an upgrade. Not sure if I should try to get a 5700x3d from chinese sellers on ebay or do a full upgrade to a 7800x3d. 7800x3d is only $320 on amazon right now which seems pretty good, but having to buy a new mobo and ram is not so good.

>>106884553
>new mobo 75-100 bucks
>new ram 2x16GB CL30 6000MT 100-120 bucks
>new cooler 30-50 bucks
>new CPU 320 bucks
Or you could still pay 300 bucks for an AM4 X3D and be stuck on a dead-end platform.

>my motherboard supports up to 196gb ram
>there are no supported 4x packs at all

???
>>
>>106884553
>but having to buy a new mobo and ram is not so good.
neither is investing on a AM4 which is a dead platform
You can get a decent, not even good or great, mobo and ram and a 7800x3d (or a cheaper cpu) and be set for a while, then when you are looking for an upgrade, your new cpu will slot on that mobo and will work with that ram
What i mean to say is that you will have to abandon AM4 at some point, this is not the worst moment to do it anon

depends on your GPU and when you plan on upgrading. if you have something from a 3080 to a 5070 then a 5700x3d should be fine to power those at 1440p. if you're looking to upgrade soon to something more powerful then you'll need a better cpu than what a 5700x3d can offer, which in practice is around 7600 in relative performance.

This is for music production / video editing
I use a lot of VST-s, plugins so I need a good CPU. I chose this one because on a youtube vid some producer was using some slightly worse model than this one and it worked great, there were no stutters even with a lot of instances of vsts. I plan to also play a game or two here and there.

I would get an AIO if those 12 cores/24 threads are going to be heavily utilized.
If you stick with an aircooler, get the Phantom Spirit (1 more heatpipe) or the Peerless Assassin V3 (new fans).
CL30 6000MT/s memory kits are slightly better.
SN7100 or SN850X would be my SSD choice.
There's a Pure Power 13 M, I would get that over the 12 M.
If you get an AIO, check whether it fits that case. You'd want to install the radiator at the top (280 or 360mm radiator compatibility for the top is recommended).
