i fell for the tempered glass computer case meme. now i see reflection of my monitor on my case. holy shit, this the worst /tech/ purchase i made in my life.

Go for the cheaper board. X870 should come with 40g usbc if you want that.

7800x3d and 9800x3d aren't that far off on performance to the point that more often than not i see the 7800x3d recommended over spending on the 9800x3d
that said a better board on the 870 is only useful if you gonna use its features, for most anons the most basic mobos will work
I PERSONALLY would pick the top one, as i mentioned the difference in performance wont be that big (but again, it exists) but i like beefier mobos with extra shit, makes me feel like i will do something with it at some point (i wont).

I have enclosures so 40gbps sounds very nice (main reason why I am consdering a overkill mobo) but the b850 (not rear though) 20gbps is also manageable, but that means I need to buy a little bit more expensive case to get use of it, so price again evens out. Other than that, the post code led is always nice to have.

>>106931976
I know the difference between the 2 doesn't even justify the $50 but I was thinking about future-proofing and longevity. Also currently the 7800X3D is at *$400* although prices should return to normal very soon.

Raising children finally inspired me to relocate all hardware to a centralized closet in the house. Gone are the days of pencils and crayons finding their way into the tower. of well whatever the tech is. All I know is in gaming, the only name in the game seems to be the 9800X3D which brags about its 3D cache. I'm brand agnostic, I just want something that's the newest. The 9800X3D being almost a year old now, I figured I would ask around if there's something new possibly hitting the market. My friends and I play MMORPGs and pretty poorly optimized games that still highly value single core performance/clock speed, and they seem to LOVE the 3D cache.

>>106934311
they will have their oen version of vertically stacked cache (that is what 3d vcache is, literally just cache stacked on top of each other), in their next gen server cpus but like i said, it's unnecessary for games and there are several ways to get that performance boost without doing it

fuck man. I remember buying my 9900k on sale for $430 at Microcenter. It's been really good to me and it just works. Even in really high end titles like CP2077, I can still get like 75-ish fps on medium/high settings paired with my 3080 at 1440p. While brand doesn't matter to me, there was part of me hoping to see a gaming oriented CPU from Intel with the same staying power. One of my friends just recently got a 5700X3D for cheap used and with a simple BIOS update, he slotted it into his mega budget A320 motherboard, and is still using it to this day. For fuck's sake he is still using an original Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler he got for $20 on sale who knows how long ago.

I'm looking for something even remotely approaching that staying power

I am considering the 9800x3d as well for longevity, and I hear it runs cooler than the 7800x3d, also I play more CPU-intensive games anyway

>mobo
I will probably go with the B850 in the end to both save $ and also because, while I'd love USB4 40gbps for my enclosure, x870 just feels pure overkill, and there's nothing else I really need from it that's not on the B850 (wifi7 etc.). What x870E did you get?

>I should also ask, for the MSI B850 Tomahawk Max, if I have 2 NVMe connected already to the mobo, would a NVMe enclosure connected thru usb cause PCIe lane sharing? if so, I'll go for the X870 anyway, if that's not a problem there (specifically the MSI X870 Tomahawk).

>5070ti
I don't feel like paying more for it, cause I am primarily on Linux these days, and I play older games, so I don't really need to go above the 9070XT on 1440p. Don't care about AI or whatever as well, so Nvidia is not that attractive for me to warrant more $$$. I have a few 5070tis on price watch list just in case though.

I also like the small LED display that shows post codes, I have it set to show my CPU temperature after booting. For lanes, you can only use 2 m.2 ssds (main slot and 3rd slot which goes through the mobo) before losing GPU lanes from 16 to 8 I think. I heard some people say Gigabytes' BIOS is bad, but I think it's good, nothing fancy and pretty similar to my previous ASUS TUF BIOS.

5090s have the connector melting flaw. You're gonna have to step up to a $3300+ astral to have preventions (passive monitoring) against that or best to stick to a 5070ti or a 9070xt with traditional 8-pin connectors

Built a new PC, my PSU produces intermittent buzzing sound. I've returned MONTECH TITAN GOLD 850, got MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 and it buzzes exactly the same, old Cougar CGR ST-500 didn't have this issue (on old PC or new PC without GPU, since it cannot power it), but these two PSUs buzz on both old and new PC. It can stay silent for 30-60 s or 1-3 minutes and then buzz for 15-30 seconds. Here's the wav file (note 3 levels: loud buzz, quiet buzz, no buzz): https://files.catbox.moe/rqvpe3.wav

It's loud, I can hear it across the room. This is 100% PSU, it's outside the case for testing purposes. It doesn't depend on the load, it even occurs when PC is turned off (but power cable is connected to the PSU). I'm 95% sure I found the issue -- 10 kHz intermittent noise in mains power, it's synchronized with buzzing. I've tried turning off all outlets and only connecting the oscilloscope to check if this noise is generated by my electronics and the noise is still present. Also it appears that before 7 AM or so there's no noise, at least on weekends. I live in a commieblock, it can be any device from any neighbor, maybe it affects whole building, idk. Tried different outlets, same thing. Any ideas how to fix it? I see only 2 solutions, either try to return this PSU again and get a new one, or try to filter this noise somehow. Getting a new PSU may help, since, apparently, both these new PSUs are based on CWT CSZ and maybe this noise is high enough (in magnitude) to vibrate input coils when it passes through them, perhaps other PSUs (not based on CWT CSZ) have different input filter topology and it will be fine, but it's a gamba. And about filtering this noise, it seems that online double conversion UPS can help but they are expensive, loud (according to reviews), they can even buzz themselves, who knows? If you think that getting a new PSU is preferable, which ones do you recommend? I have 9700x/5070 Ti, 850W is overkill, but want to have a room for an upgrade in the future.

I crank my fans to 100% during use.

I take care of my gpu.

fans are cheap (relatively)

More of a NAS than PC question, but Is $300 for 28TB external Seagate drives a place you'd want to pull the trigger? I know externals have shittier quality Bareacudas with shit warranty etc compared to good 24/7 nas quality ones, but is that a bad price?

It seems to be a perfect case to put on your desk, which is why I am highly considering going with it.

That's what I plan on doing, building a desk for it right now. Just about to put the second coat of sealer on the bottom tonight. Got some special legs shipping out next week hopefully. Will be my first new and nice thing ever. Really hope it all comes together and can show you guys the before and after of 12 years of suffering.

I've been out of the PC hardware space for a couple years, looking for a new case. Current case is a Fractal Meshify 2, looking for something with around or slightly better quality than this and similar clean aesthetics. Always been a Fractal fanboy but I can assume the market has caught up to them by now.
>>
what does /pcbg/ think of the i7-12700K?
>>
>>106935432
Meshify 3 is the best case for temps. There are wood options now if you want that or there's a new case that looks like a bubble.

It's fine if you get one CHEAP and can score a CHEAP LGA1700 mobo. CHEAP is the key, otherwise it's not worth it. And it runs hot. Great cooling is a must.
>>
>>106935449
it is still amazing in 2025 and only starts to fall behind when you want autistically high frame rates
>>
>>106935449
Good, but it's usually too close in price to the 14600k, which is faster if you didn't know.
>>
Just booted up rdr2, how do I start to buy slaves?
>>
>>106935432
HAVN BF360
Bit on the high end but it's pretty much the best you can have
Lancool 217 or Antec Flux are cheaper alternatives
If you want a Fractal it's Torrent or nothing

>>106935235
I'd kill to be able to get a 28TB drive at that price

just got a 5070TI are the newest nvidia drivers still shit? should i rollback to 566.36?
>>
>>106935960
you can't use 566.36 on the 50 series
welcome to the problem of owning a 50 series card
your options are dogshit (576.12) or slightly less shit (581.57)

Anyone got any good fan curves for the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360?
>>
>>106936114
Seconding this, I got the same one and have no clue what to do with fans.
>>
>>106936114
keep pump at 100%
if the pump noise is annoying to you then drop it to 60%
set vrm fan to just follow cpu curve
