Giving up without Giving up edition
>The poem below was written by a whiteman born in jeetistan
>keep /utwg/ going...

If—
By Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

yeah I guess he should have bought his son's way into college, then bought his son an MBA after that, then setup a fake IT company to let his son play CEO for 10 years pretending to develop vaporware, then pull strings to get his son into position as CEO of a real company so that his son could then run it into the ground and destroy everything that someone else built. Yeah. The assignment is use boyer moore but you only have to implement bad character and not good suffix also. The input string doesn't change either it's all fifty states with just spaces between that's it.

1-2 roles *at any given company*. She's not saying you look bad if you're desperate enough to apply to three jobs. Use the context of the previous statement. You look bad when you apply to 15 jobs all over the board at a single company because the hirer can see which roles you've apply to *at their company*.
>>
>>106943547
>1-2 roles *at any given company*

It feels the opposite to me compared to when I was getting a job ~7 years ago. Applications a designed to be as quick to submit as possible. And many places even say they'll consider you for other jobs if the you didn't actually reed the requirments of this one but they have another that fits (even though I doubt they have ever actual done that). I wish they weren't so easy to apply to though. It makes it too easy for people to spam apply.

>Must have experience in [specific program]
Does this drive anyone else up the wall? Does it matter if I haven't used specifically JIRA or some shit when I have experience in ticketing systems and can use that as a transferable skill?
Knowing how companies use ticketing systems, the specific program doesn't matter either.
>>
>>106943734
It's like dating apps. They get too much data that nobody is going to look perfect. They would be much better off if they got like 20 applicants and had a knowlegable programmer glance over a few projects for each but instead they just get a list of facts for 100s of applicants. So they start hirering based on whose list must closely overlaps with their list. But it's a terrible way to make a decision because the person with the most overlap in experience with the job description has that overlap purely by coincident. It has nothing to do with his actual quality. Tools are easy to pick up. It's the general computer skills that are important and the list of facts they get don't tell them that. And yes it's extremely frustrating. Pretty much everywhere I am applying to wants experience with cloud computing/AWS and I have never used that but I used GCP once and it took all of 10 minutes to learn how to set up an instance. I'm already fimilar with containers, Linux, command line tools, networking, reading documentation, running programs on a server, etc so it's not something I'm going to have difficulty with but I have to say no when asked. I am pretty sure answer no to if I had used some specific query language before was the reason I got rejected from the one interview I've gotten so far despite otherwise having a ton of relevant experience and noting that I have plenty of experience running and working with various databases/query langugas.
>>
>>106943822
What's worse is if by some miracle you have the exact experience they want only to find out that they ignore basic functionality or have their own proprietary system built on top of it, so the direct experience with the program is moot.

Confident upstarts who look down on others because they have 300k at 30 told me to get the skills the job market wants me to have. They said the only reason I'm unemployed right now is because I don't have the skills the job market needs me to have.

the problem is white collar replacement migration, boomers, the civil rights legal regime, and downstream from that, women in the workplace and HR, not "billionaires"'
white collar immigration happens to cut costs, true, but ultimately it is only possible because of a treasonous government that allows it to happen
"billionaires" would exist whether or not all the above problems were solved
if we lived in a meritocratic society I would have absolutely no qualms with "billionaires" because I would know they earned their wealth by their own merits
our society can most aptly be described as Antimeritocratic and it will be overthrown by a Meritocratic revolution

Youre a dumb fuck if you think billionaires have more power than congress
They have no power, their wealth can be taken away at the drop of a hat through legislation and litigation
How the fuck do dumb fucks like you think lobbying works? You think because a politician is paid by moneyed interest that he has any obligation to follow through? No, nigger. They do whatever they want. And replacement migration is an ideological issue, not a rational fiscally sound policy.
>>
>>106945871
>their wealth can be taken away at the drop of a hat through legislation and litigation
Yet it doesn't. Yet they have become richer and richer for the past 70 years. Do you think your vote matters absolute mongoloid? Billionaires win no matter who is in power. They spend billions to fools retards like you and you fall for it everytime. Yes, I'm sure billionaires want to see they own children replaced, yeah very sound and logical.

There has to be something I can do to take advantage of my actual skill set and make reasonable money. There's no way I can't figure out someway to make money on the internet.

mid-level employee is cushy once you get in but it's hell to get in. For all the shit you have to go through to get considered for an interview, at least half the employees that actually get hired are pretty worthless and the rest are mostly treading water. It does not take much work to make management happy.
But with being unemployed I don't get much work done because at this point I'm dreading job search related stuff so much that I just procrastenate most the day (i.e. right now) then get annoyed that I could at least spent that time working on things that I wanted to do but I also want work on the projects I want to do because I really got to be applying to more jobs. Got a big employment gap and I think my references are kind of weak. Thinking about applying for a job I'm way overqualified for just for now and working there for 6-12 months. I have 10+ years of experience, but I could get an entry level coding job. If I can just get even 60k for now that should cover all my expenses. Is there anything wrong with this plan? When did the world get too competitive for this? I'm not talking about strategies for grinding your way to CEO, I'm just talking about a middle class life. Funny thing is the part of the whole post is where he's talking about the country's government betraying its own people is that the USA has bred enough people to accept this so they seem like good people. There's plenty of people now that talk about how bringing in others is helping them and their own citizens somehow because maybe they're a doctor or some shit. They've been groomed to think this is the right thing and going against it makes you a hateful person. So they made sure enough people within the country fight each other on the issue while corporations and the government still gets away with it.

You will get fired if you're a worthless new hire anyway if you don't have actual skills.
There's no such thing as "actual skills" anymore, it's all AI. I cheated on a C++ skills interview, AI generated my cover letter etc and worked at a company everyone ITT knows the name of for over a year before they ran out of money for my department

Oh and I literally don't even know C++ lmao I just watched 20 TheCherno videos and typed in my questions while they talked. Still shipped thousands of lines of high quality C++ thanks to Claude. "actual skills" is complete boomer cope nowadays

Caring about "delivering" is copebait as well because relatively often FAANG engineers don't even ship anything and they end up feeling like they career had nothing to show for it after 10 years. You can deliver anything anyone expects of you except in incredibly niche fields with modern AI nowadays. Literally the only thing standing between you and a job is a series of vibe and culture checks and passing the intitiation and humiliation rituals successfully

Been living with my parents for almost a year after losing my previous job and they really want me gone now and abuse me all the time for it. I don't think these cunts understand how fucked everything is for entry level people in the current year. I've probably applied to hundreds of places by now but I guess the field is mostly dead at this point and I would have had a better chance if I made my way in years ago.

Just had one of the most grueling experiences in recent memory.
>Cousin is unemployed (he's 35 or something, no degree, been hopping between part time jobs for 4-5 years)
>Had another mental breakdown, threw his iphone out the side of his car because his parents wouldn't stop calling him
>Now he came to my house to ask me for help resetting his gmail / icloud password because he doesn't remember any of the fucking passwords
>Spent an hour going account through account, trying to reset them all in a chain (forgot icloud, which asks for gmail, which asks for outlook)
>Literally cannot remember a single fucking password, has to call his dad and ask for one of them to start the chain
This dude is unemployed, in the exact same situation as me. He cannot do the bare minimum of remembering account passwords. His bank account is in the negative as well, of course.

It's hard to understand just how fucked some people are until you actually see their situation.
His best hope in life (he'll never be able to get a house, he just is not mentally capable, especially with this market) is to get a steady full time job doing some manual labor, or working as a manager at a warehouse. I genuinely think years of medication (he's on lithium bicarbonate too btw) has fried his brain.
>has a mental breakdown every few months, parents institutionalize him
>when the hospital sends bills they just ignore it
>his credit score is basically negative
>hasn't had a credit card in years, couldn't even open one if he wanted
>won like 8 grand off a scratch off last year, bought a used car with it
>crashed it 2 months ago and totaled the car
>got so mad he threw his iphone out of the car
>now he's stuck with some shitty android (lost his old phone number too, which locked him out of most of his accounts)
Somehow, despite everything, I am in the same employment situation as him, and also living with my parents (albeit in a spare property).
How fucking depressing.

I had a few thousand in bitcoin and it moved sideways for the 2 years I had it. Then it started pumping as soon as I sold it to pay some debt.
And either way it would take tens of thousands in crypto and holding it for like a decade at this point to make any real wealth. Unless you get lucky in some shitcoin (you won't) the days when you could hold bitcoin and 10x your money in a year are over.
>>
>>106964476
okay but the same would be true if you knew the wining lottery numbers or whatever. again, people didn't "invest" in bitcoin as such, because it was a currency, not a purely speculative investment vehicle as it is now (and in general, fewer things were Monetized™ like that in general and most self-directed investment would just be buying stonks)

the real question is why not buy some nvidia and sit on it back then (have an answer to this; my bank didn't let me because it wasn't listed on the correct exchange so i bought intel and amd as copes)
>>
>>106964500
>the days when you could hold bitcoin and 10x your money in a year are over.
did this ever happen except for the initial boom

i bought some in like 2022 and only doubled my money (which wasnt even a lot)

also
>10x your money
so i put in 1k and get 10k, one time ever. wow. i have more cash than that on hand

It does feel like the rules changed mid‑game. Post‑9/11 G.I. Bill benefits still exist — veterans can use them for on‑the‑job training or apprenticeships, with prorated housing and book allowances — but the straightforward “party for four years and walk into a decent office job” path is gone. Tech has gone from voracious hiring to shedding staff; more than 150k tech workers were laid off last year, and tens of thousands more were cut in early 2025. Hiring in the U.S. has slowed to ~30k new jobs per month this summer and tech contracted by 90k positions since its 2023 peak. Those cuts are partly due to AI adoption reducing demand for entry-level workers. Combine that with a flood of CS grads and immigrant labor, and even experienced vets are scrambling for referrals and contract work.

I don't have a magic fix, but you're not crazy for feeling burned out. The rat race you described — doing school online while working, chasing referrals, watching programs get cut — is what a lot of folks are facing now. Maybe the only sane thing is to focus on building skills you enjoy, use the GI Bill perks where they still help, and accept that the days of easy middle-class stability in tech are over.

I think I'm doing something wrong.
I generate cover letters with AI and proof read them and then submit them along with my CV and certifications. My CV has buzzwords both embedded in the metadata and on a side bar. And it has everything I've ever done on it. It's about 3 to 4 pages.

Should I also tailor my CV by generating a new CV for every job and delete everything irrelevant on it to the job?
Could it be that not only the cover letter but also the CV are to be tailored?
But how do you know something is irrelevant? What if you remove something valuable?

old job was advanced process control. go to refinery or chem plants, tune up the loops, make a bunch of test moves on everything in a subunit, model the process, make sure there aren't any numerical oddities, and then place the optimizer ontop of the subunit that controls it and pushes it towards an optimum every minute.
most people in these roles at a site are dogshit at it since they've never built one from scratch and just barely maintain what they have setup. I probably deployed 40 or 50 of them...I don't think it would be terribly difficult to find a job doing it again I would just need to move, which I really don't want to do. Site money is less (~$140-$170k?) but it would be zero stress since I know what I'm doing and it's more or less a blackbox to people.
