Gentlemen, I came to /g/ for another purpose to look up some new PC build meta, but I saw /mkg/ and I had to stop by and say hi. It's been a long time. I still have a collection of converted oldies. I still have a couple of old terminal alp boards that need modern love.

However, I come with the glad news I actually did reach my grail. It has carried me through all the gauntlet of a masters degree, then teaching college classes, building autistic spreadsheets of grades and miniature collections, writing essays, scientific papers and stories. I have not had a different primary board for over 3 years.

It is but a humble Epson QX-10, modded to have NKRO by adding diodes and giving it QMK firmware. I can adjust the feet to my perfect angle. I have the extended numpad for all my needs. I have macros for all the major F key replacements when I need them in a single press. In the beginning, I never thought I would have gone linear. I never thought doubleshot ABS would fulfill me. Yet, here I am. A couple of layer functions and she is my baby. Fujitsu leaf springs are some of my favorites and the layout, heavy key clunk, and slim adjustable profile just fit everything I want.

I guess what I really want to say is I hope you all also find your forever board as well. This thing has already served me longer than it was meant to serve the world in 1984. Good luck on your quest, friends.

Ok my drunk ass read it.

After such a build-up about the "humble" board you settled for I was a little surprised to find it was some vintage desktority-approved Chyrosran-approved board.

>In the beginning, I never thought I would have gone linear. I never thought doubleshot ABS would fulfill me.

Linears with double-shot ABS... who could imagine...

>Good luck on your quest
Appreciated, thank you. I hope your vintage grail keeps on chugging another decade. Salut.
>>
>>106956943
Yeah I'm not doing that either, but I have access to non-chinkshit murata Li-Po batteries so I don't have some explosion prone JaeoWOObinngbong eBay battery with a a faulty BMS.
But regardless of that fact, even with a high quality battery like AA Samsung rechargeable with an effective BMS for it, 8000mAh is just cartoonish. Why not 800kmAh? I was under the impression most keyboards and mice used something like 1800mAh with lazy controllers that went off voltage to indicate fully charged so 4.2V reports as 100% as opposed to real charge determination.
>>
>>106956960
Funny thing. I got it before Chrysoran approved it. One of my others, the Fortran Z-spring, he actually reviewed specifically because of me. Good board, BTW. I just like this one better.

Dude has nice things to say about most old bamillion keypress switches, so not a hard guess. He usually pumps up the 3rd Gen Fujitsu's, but I like the seconds better. It's honestly whether they have the NKRO or not but a little clever circuit splicing and it makes no difference.
>>
>>106956966
>800kmAh
k and m just cancel each-other so you're at 800Ah. which is the equivalent of roughly 12 car batteries. like the 12V ones. but if you're looking for same Wh as 800kmAh at 4.2V then ~3 car batteries should do it.

No idea what this could be. The bluetooth controller on the keyboard overheating? Sound is the most subjective part of mechanical keyboards, and even YT videos sound different across sources. That Rainy75 is commonly regarded as a nice-sounding keyboard and it just werks, so it's a very safe bet for spoonanon.
>>
>>106962854

>That Rainy75 is commonly regarded as a nice-sounding keyboard
It can be as commonly-regarded as you like, I'll still think they're wrong. Show me a video of a Rainy75 sounding good. I have watched a LOT of Rainy75 sound test videos, and never once found it pleasant to listen to.

And the flex cutouts are so extreme that the board basically doesn't work without being stuffed with foam. Look at this shit lol:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1HELCwFRIY&t=250s

I think it would be far easier to make a Keychron V1 Max sound good.

Lmao what the fuck is that design?
>>
>>106963576
That sound is just like shaking a spray paint can. It's what keyboard enthusiasts today call marbly.
>>106964038
Marbly 100% has its place, so don't let anyone get in between what you like. Since sound tests are so subjective and easy to fake, I can't even honestly say what I like to hear. A dedicated desktop mic can sound 100% different (no hyperbole) compared to an iPhone's mic. It's simply impossible to be a sound elitist like this. If you like what you hear, own it.
>>
>>106964038
Also foam filters sound and every single keyboard kit uses foam in some manner or the other so don't start thinking foam is for plebs or some bullshit. Just look at how every other manufacturer uses PE switch sheets after the Jelly Epoch-inspired PE foam mod became popular.
>>

Sound profile is a barometer of quality. Making your keyboard have a specific sound *even if you think it sounds like shit* isn't something that can be done with low-quality parts.

>>106965971
there's 0 chance you can fuck up the board itself by doing this right yoinking it out like this? worst you can do is damage the switch?
>>
>>106965971
It's normal if the switches are HMX. Normal for other switches as well unless they're all flying off, in which case you need to improve your technique. Hold the board down with your other hand when you pull your keycap off with the puller. Or use flat tweezers/whatever to gently hold the switch from the exposed sides while you pull the keycap off. It'll work!

Plastic is king. Ceramics are very niche. Metal caps exist. You can get copper or aluminum ones, but it'll cost you. >The system doesn’t work with just any random keyboard, it must be trained to a specific keyboard with references for what character each keystroke corresponds to.
This is scary. That means with little more than a mic in your room and a keylogger they might be able to figure out what you're privately typing with up to 95% accuracy...

Cope. Those are the most common boards available today and anyone can find at least one solid board from those that I listed. Most boards are foamslop anyway, at least with a list you can avoid Meletrix or completely random sounding brands like YOOZU or SZAPP

I know this nuance is completely lost on some of you idiots but being manufactured in China is not what makes something Chinese.

This push mower is made in China. It is made to an exact specification for an American seller, based on an old American mower design; the seller rigorously inspects it for QC to ensure it meets the spec. If you've ever used one, you notice its distinctly American character, made for the sensibilities of a certain kind of American merchant and American consumer. It is heavy, robust, utilitarian-looking, and requires some maintenance by the owner. It is, in almost every sense, an American product. But it is Made in China.

The degree to which a product is Chinese is the degree to which it embodies a Chinese sensibility because of the Chinese involvement in decision-making about the product. This is on a spectrum:

Chinese-designed product for the Chinese market >>> Chinese-designed product for a western market >>> American-designed product with broad leeway for the Chinese manufacturer to implement the design >>> Tightly-specified American design that nonetheless leaves QC/etc to the manufacturer >>> Full tight control of design, materials, QC, etc by a non-Chinese party using a Chinese manufacturer >>> Products designed and manufactured outside of China
