love my Inno3D 5070 and it's shitty fan curve that goes from 0 to 1400 RPM then back to 0 at idle juggling between 39 and 51 degrees
retarded OP recommending turing cards in 2025
>>106966290>Leave any constructive suggestions for edits to the opi hate that im saying this cause the amd op faggot was annoying but the bit about the 9070/xt has no place on the op and the 9060xt and the 9070xt should be somewhere in the gpu sectionJust fucking stop being bitches
>>106966278Motherfuckers nobody told me to check the ventirad condom. All laugh though thanks for the help
>>106966325and it's funny because used Ampere cards of the same tiers (3060 12GB, 3070, 3080 Ti 12GB) are actually great value and still very capable at 1080p, the 3080 Ti even at 1440p because it's better than a 5060 Ti kek
>>106966325Turing are some of the best budget used cards around. There’s almost nothing you can’t make a 2060s run if you’re willing to butcher the resolution. Turing has aged like fine wine. I just sold mine during rdna4 launch and got almost as much as I paid for it since demand was so high.
>>106966324That's what you get when you fall for the "card models don't matter" meme.
>>106966374eh it works fine otherwise, I've read some models don't have a 0 RPM mode at all so they're constantly making sound
>>106966324Zero rpm is dogshit on most cards unless they have a thick heatsink.
>>106966374The SKU matters less than the AIB, I’d point to the OP and its gigabyte GPU section for proof of that.
>>106966386Thermal mass only buys you more time before fans kick in, it’s surface area that can prevent you from needing them all together in some instances.
Fuck GeForce and consoomer cards, my 2022 3060 Ti I paid like $750 at the time for is shitting its self again either when rendering, prompting SD for too long, or now it's throwing access violation errors in Blender even with Afterburner closed. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE JUST RECOMMEND ME A RELIABLE GPU TO RENDER WITH??? I don't care if I have to go pro at this point. I'm fucking tired of having broken card after card for the last 7 years.
>>106966278Some threads ago someone told me that i have to drop the power limit on a RX 9070 XT by 20-30%. Anyone idea why?

>>106966473You can get a more efficient card by dropping the power limit for sure but it’s not going to be any faster. Something to do if heat, noise or power consumption is a problem for you.

Chinkshit my beloved
>>106966473Touching the power limit up or down is a easy way to increase or decrease performance. If you want more you would undervolt. Most 9070xts can do -20mv no problem just like Ryzen can do -20 co.
>>106966584Why does every AMDfag mention undervolting to anons who don’t even know what overclocking is? Those users don’t need any potential instability problems from undervolting.
>>106966568anon dont put pineapple slices in your computer

>>106966599AMD encourages you to use PBO and Adrenaline and EXPO because it just works if you have the correct settings.
>>106966611Both automatic features that do the work for you and come with warranty support. Undervolting your GPU (what we’re actually talking about) does not. You’re seriously recommending that an anon who doesn’t know what a power limit does try and find himself a stable undervolt profile? Fucking kek.
>>106966630AMD has automatic tuning for their GPUs because they are that confident it just works.
>>106966228lolwell what are the temps on it now then
>>106966637If they where that confident the GPUs would just run with lower voltage at the factory.Having to enable it after the fact puts the onus on you for why the shit happens to not work
>>106966657Was testing it. BF6 on high, 100% util, did not touch 80°C for 20m, case closed.I booted idling at 45°C and now I'm idling at 52°C, slowly passing under the 50°C.CPU fans around 1100 RPM. I'd aim lower but a friend with 9800X3D and a 3080ti has the same speeds on a modern bigger tower, so for now it'll be alright.GPU is 4 degrees higher than usual but it's still not triggering the native fan curve, it's at 0 RPM.My next upgrades would be a case, and some kind of top exhaust/front intake, and I learn that the choice of motherboard is important if you want to stick 2 SSD coolers without problems and not having your GPU french kissing the CPU ventirad.I also learn like in codding, if it's not the semicolon misplaced, it's the fucking ventirad plastic film.I had to remove the GPU for every CPU fan adjustment. What a pain.
>>106966611>because it just worksNo, they don't. The 9070s were boosting too high at stock settings to the point of instability.https://www.reddit.com/r/radeon/comments/1knkvms/rx_9070_xt_is_boosting_to_almost_3300mhz/
The aggressive boosting is still not fully fixed.
>>106966752>GPU is 4 degrees higher than usualProbably because the CPU isn't thermally throttling anymore and is passing more work to the GPU.
>>106966473Since the 9070 XT is pushed way past the power/performance curve, it doesn't make sense trying to get any more by pushing it even higher unless you're chasing world record benchmarks. So reducing the power limit followed by lowering the voltage curve is the way to go. Doing the latter keeps the performance the same as with the higher power limit, or goes even higher still depending on silicon quality.

So without pandering to everyone's information about PCI-E 5.0 on PCI-E 3.0 being a huge loss - how bad is it to run a 5.0 card on 3.0 slot?I only use a maximum of 68% of my PCI-E 3.0 bus with a 3.0 card under my normal usage. Nothing I do has ever broken past 68%. I assume with a 5.0 card, it'll be 100% of the PCI-E 3.0 lane but for much much shorter times because it'll transfer all the data over faster. Assuming I do the exact same things I'm doing right now.

>>106967587>>106967619It should be okay. All my games only go up to about 32% pci-e 3.0 bandwidth currently. Loading a model in stable diffusion is the only thing that makes it go all the way up to 68% but once the model is loaded, the bandwidth never goes very high. No matter what I do (that isn't a benchmark) can never get the bus to hit 100%. Adobe After Effects (the main reason for my workstations in general) barely use any bandwidth as well. Here's the "new" rig I'm working on using used ebay parts, minus the GPU: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/trRQWc

I'm reaching pc building prep overload. For months on end all I do is browse this general and other forums and watch youtube guides. I've watched my particular case install at least 10 times. Every day I find something new, like today I found out I need 2 flash drives because you have to have a specific one for flashing the bios and some other format for installing windows. Feel like I'm barely juggling all the info in my head and I have to keep going over it or I'll forget something. Ordering the parts was so simple compared to actually building and configuring the thing. It feels like a looming nightmare, going to have to borrow a friends laptop just so I'll have some sort of internet after the build so I can google and troubleshoot. I'll probably be asking a million questions along the way hope you guys don't hate me. My brother and friend both bailed on helping me build so I'm doing it completely solo. Just hope my fat fingers can get to those little fan plugs. I've never done this before so I'm really nervous, so much money that could be blown if I fuck up.

>>106967882alrightwhat's /pcbg/'s beef with putty?
>>106967914To be fair picking the parts wasn't easy either but I did it over a long period of time. Like the last two years I've been refining my build. So when I was finally ready to buy it was pretty easy I knew exactly what I wanted.
Havent paid attention to Intel since Raptor Lake. I owned a 12900k which I was really happy with, tho I did have a ginormous custom loop. For financial reasons, I downgraded to a prebuilt with 11700.I am about ready to build again. I have a low profile ITX case I want to use. Is Intel a reasonable choice right now for a SFF build like this? Or will their next gen be? Basically looking for generally low power consumption/ low heat output. Peak all-core power consumption is one thing, but idle and maxed out single core are also important. So does Intel have or will they have something soon that has some merit over an AM5 build, particularly regarding power consumption in a SFF build?pic not related.

At least wait for Blackwell refresh with 50% more VRAM.
Just bought a 9800x3d last week. Now I'm hearing a 9850x3d is coming and it's going to be way more powerful? Should I return the 9800 and wait? Will it be the same price or way more expensive? When should it be coming?

Local prices are equivalent to ~$450 USD so not really a good option. The only other place that delivers here is Newegg but the shipping costs are too high. Kinda wondering if I should get a 9600x or something and wait for Zen6.
>>106968364I would say if you can play the games you want to play now just wait. If you can't do what you want to do at any settings than either go all out now or get something just to limp by for a couple more years.
Just learning about about SMT but it's hard to get a straight answer about it's usefulness. Some say it gives you a lot more fps others say it makes games worse. Anyone have an opinion on it? Is it something I should worry about when building a new system? I'm honestly not sure I understand what it really does, something about virtual cores? What does that even mean?
>>106968416It depends on the game.CS2 used to run better with SMT disabled, but this may have changed since Valve has been addressing performance issues with the title. If you’re confused, leave it on.The devs are supposed to code their games to run well with SMT.PlayStation and Xbox consoles have mobile Ryzen CPUs with SMT.
Question about BIOS flashing and windows install. Guides I've watched say I need 2 thumb drives, one to install the bios because it needs fat32 and one to install windows because it uses NTFS. But couldn't I partition the drive and make one part fat32 and put the bios update in there and leave the rest for windows and other updates and only have to use one drive for all my updating? Or is there some reason that wouldn't work?

Reading through the previous thread and before that I swear everyone said to use afterburner. Now apparently any stats monitoring if you have an AMD cpu is going to tank your system? There was so much argument I don't know what to think. What should I do when I build my new comp? Could I just use games built in fps counter or steams?
>>106968806disable the power monitoring and its fine
>>106968810What's the best program to monitor that stuff? Is afterburner ok if I don't do the wattage monitor or should I use something else? I'll be on winblows 11 because I'm an old boomer.
>>106968704Depends on how smart your BIOS is about finding its updates. On my newest mobos it can just read directly off of internal drives, you don't even need any USB drive at all. With the Windows installer, all the tools for making install drives for Windows just assume you give them the whole drive. It may be possible to partition it and boot the installer (maybe, never tried) but you're just complicating your life for literally no reason. Just use 2 drives, or use the same drive, just install one thing and then reflash the drive for the other one. It's not like you literally need 2 drives at the same time.
>>106968820what program you use doesn't really matterrun hwinfo and enable profiling timethat will show you which sensors consume the most timethis will correlate to the sensors in afterburner as wellbut do you really need a bunch of sensors running all the time?
>>106968900as you can see the % of TDP sensor takes an unusually high time to profile
>>106968851Alright thanks, I'll just dig up a smaller drive for the bios.
>>106968900>but do you really need a bunch of sensors running all the time?I have no idea, just saw most of the previous thread was devoted to fighting about this subject so I thought it might be important. I've never had a system that could play these kind of games so I don't really know what I might need. Figure it could be useful to know if my stuff was getting too hot or something so I could know to check on it I guess.
>>106968806You just have to uncheck the "GPU Power %" sensor in Afterburner / RTSS and in other hardware monitoring tools. This video explains it pretty clearly.https://youtu.be/h6642umBeYM?t=121I'm guessing that specific sensor is either old junk that never got removed or NVIDIA kept it for troubleshooting purposes.
>>106968952sure if you want to have like a temperature sensor go for it - as you can see it takes 0msbut you don't need to be monitoring every single thing all the time, as its just pointless overhead
>>106968793A lot of websites and apps make that mistake.Even Windows was reporting memory speed as MHz instead of MT/s until last year or so.https://www.kingston.com/en/blog/pc-performance/mts-vs-mhzhttps://www.tomshardware.com/software/windows/microsoft-is-switching-ram-speed-units-in-task-manager-finally-moving-to-the-more-technically-correct-mts
>>106969003>>106968798>>106968779Even if you swap MT for MHz I don't think those numbers are accurate, because apparently theres almost nobody running 6000 MT while there also being people running 16000 MT
>>106969062The memory config in your screenshot should be running at 8000MT/s.That website isn't maintaining the unit properly.See HWBot's memory benchmark records; it's accurately reporting MHz.https://hwbot.org/
>>106968960Ok I watched the video and read a lot of the comments and now I'm freaking out wondering if I made the wrong choice. These posts in particular it seems like even without these monitoring systems the 9800 has issues. I completely stayed away from Intel because of that issue they had with some cpu burning up a while back and also their naming convention was so complicated. Everyone was saying the x3d cpus were the best for gaming so I just went with that. I bought the cpu and motherboard but I haven't put it all together yet. I don't do anything but gaming no coding or ai or anything else. Should I consider sending them back and swapping to an intel cpu? If I did which one would be best for my interests and what potential downsides could it have? Are there issues particular to their cpu's?
>>106969098You are worrying too much. The benefits of the X3D chip outweigh all those niggles. The only issue I'd have with the AM5 platform is the longer memory training times, but it's a minor nuisance. The power% thing also affects Intel CPUs; it costs about the same CPU time to report that data.
>>106969098To follow up on some quick googling I've done it looks like the closest equivalent to the 9800 is the i7-14700K. But isn't that the one that was having all those issues? Is that something that got solved with updates? It's a lot cheaper than the 9800, would be nice if I could switch to it and gain performance. But I feel like I don't know enough to make a correct decision, this whole issue I wasn't even aware of until just now.
>>106969098you're freaking out over nothing
>>106969098You don't really have a lot of Intel options that are beginner-friendly anyway. It's either the 14600K or the 265K; neither of them will run games better than a 9800X3D.14th-gen i7s and i9s require manual tuning to make them run more power efficiently. And you need to know how to manually overclock the CPU and memory to make up for the memory latency deficit in Arrow Lake CPUs.
>>106969134>But isn't that the one that was having all those issues? Is that something that got solved with updates? There were microcode fixes that put a stricter limit on how much voltage these CPUs could request. But the BIOS updates that packaged these microcodes were lazily implemented by all motherboard manufacturers.Long story short, the board manufacturers just let the CPUs ask for more voltage than they need at higher workloads (within safe limits) to make sure even the worst 13th/14th gen CPUs can stably run on their boards. The chips run even more power inefficiently with those BIOS updates than the launch version of the BIOS.https://community.intel.com/t5/Mobile-and-Desktop-Processors/Intel-Core-13th-and-14th-Gen-Desktop-Instability-Root-Cause/m-p/1633442https://community.intel.com/t5/Mobile-and-Desktop-Processors/Intel-Core-13th-and-14th-Gen-Vmin-Shift-Instabilty-Update-New/m-p/1686948https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9slwXKUwmnE

>>106969256>5060 Ti (500€) and 5070 Ti (900€)Both are way overpriced. 500€ should be the cost of a 5070 (or cheaper).
>>106969298yeah 5060 ti is bad5070 is best value, at least in finlandbut you might as well wait for the super revisions that come out in few months
Fuck it, the whole pc is here already just waiting to be built. I can't deal with a bunch of returns and relearning a bunch of new shit to maybe make things better. If my new computer is a stuttery mess than it will just feel like home because that's what I've been used to for 12 years. The more I learn about computers the more I wish I had just been a nintenbab. Console gamers live in a magical land of ignorant bliss where you insert your cartridge/disc and it just works.
Currently had to deal with my PC going bye-bye, had to downgrade from Ryzen 5 3600 to Ryzen 3 3200G out of necessity. I have a decent enough budget for a mid-tier, so should I just rebuy a 3600 or do I go ahead and buy an upgrade?
>>106969545get 5700x3d or a new platform
>>106969545If you need a more affordable CPU, consider 5600X, 5700X, or the 5800XT.Those three have been discounted recently.
>>106969663Considering highly the 5600X as well since it's been recommended by me when I asked for a second opinion. Might get that when internet shops go on sale here in Filipinoland
My flat 10 oz. Dell keyboard coming in clutch every time a keyboard fags out on me because the back crimps a wittle bit.
>>106969357You just buy shit and out it together, mate.Relax and remember that the tongue holds power. The Lord said so. Do not curse yourself.

>>106967812For me flashing the bios was nerve wracking since i hadn't done it before and you dont get any kind of interface to check what you are doing beyond a blinking lightBut it just workedI believe in you anon, having internet access with your mate's laptop is a good idea so would be trying to recruit a friend that has a bit more of an idea but i see your brother has abandoned you like a craven coward. You got this
>>106969545I would check for a 2nd hand cpu and keep saving money to eventually transition to a new build on am5any 5xxx cpu will do you do fine
