>>106994069As he's my new manager and I do what he tells me to do as part of my contract, there is not much "push back" as I would do as a normal employee. My only tools are the following, either:>comply with his requests but at a slow pace as I don't care anymore if he fired me as I'm honestly getting tired of his bullshit, and saying no if the request is stupidOr>giving my notice (1 month) and end at the beginning of December or earlier if the manager decides to stop giving me work. But with less than two months of contract left I guess I'll do the first thing until my patience runs out. Today before I finish the day I have to give the weekly report, prepare an action plan for some random bullshit project he dragged me in an hour ago, and have another 1 hour meeting for a different project. Any embedded systems devs here? Do you have any tips on how to break into embedded? I've been a backend dev (java) for ~2 years but working on web apps is genuinely soul-crushing. The only reason I even have this job is because I couldn't even land any interviews for a junior embedded position a couple of years ago. I can handle myself well in C (C++ too, but I like C more). My second question is, is it too late? Should I just resign myself and accept that I'm stuck building web apps for the next 40 years? Or is it possible to break into embedded?
>>106994509you've never truly enjoyed computers if learning how to build and maintain a website was what you did
>>106994498Yeah, that's what I've been doing too, it's a little soul crushing though. Does your boss care about your employee reviews? Mine doesn't really but it's annoying always hearing "We're looking to get you a position/salary bump" every once in a while and then quiet. I'd be honestly less mad if they just didn't mention it. Otherwise it's been "you've been doing good!" but no specifics. All I do is answer their questions asap or send them a report or investigate a feature from my end and then go back to playing games for the next 6 hours of my shift....

It's frustrating, sure, but that's just a chemical reaction in the brain. You can choose to let it pass over you and ignore it, and live your life for things that aren't work, because they're the only things that truly matter. >>106994753>No direction or constant reinventing the wheelbtw I've learned to embrace the suck in regards to this. It's job security, we just keep churning on the same shit year after year. The success or goals have nothing to do with me, the paycheck and the rest of my life is what i care about.

>mfw my boss planned projects got dropped because of a re-org and now he's pushing my "pet projects" out so our team (he) has something to push for I don't really like this at all. He's paused my pet projects beforehand way earlier in the year because he needed to verify something with the business and it's been left there for months. Now he's pushing that this all has to be done next month and the business isn't working with us on requirements, testing, or implementation and I'm just like "what the fuck man". Like I made note that "This won't work with this operation teams practice.", "I'd like signoff from operations before we implement this.", "I'd like one of our teams to try this out and test this" but I'd get ghosted by them and then my boss said we'll just put it in pause and now his initiative is just push it out no matter what and I'm just like are you fucking serious? Thanks to the re-org too, everyone's now insanely too busy to UAT and fuck if I know anything about operations to come up with test cases and edge case testing. This sucks.

>>106995576I don't know why they show this, I mean some days I'm like this, other days I'm fucking pulling my head out. Why even bother doing "life at company" because we all know you're talking fucking shit out of your ass.
>>106995627women don't know and then they fall for the jew daycare scheme
>>106995627It's to make all the other girlies feel jealous or wow at their "lifestyle"To women, jobs are just a prop they can leverage for social status, nothing more
I'm a dev but I'm making a shit ton of powerpoints for my boss to showcase all of our potential solutions, is this normal? It just pisses me off that instead of Business -> Tech, a lot of my work is "idk figure out some way to optimize/automate their workflow but make sure it works for operational. GL! :D"
>>106995662
today instead of working I repaired my "tacvest" (it's a fishing vest but most of the pockets are perfectly sized for grenades or STANAG magazines and it has no pockets that fit any tools I would ever bring fishing)
>>106995683you're a "solutions" engineer now
>>106995746What the fuck? I can't even talk to the business users since they're always like "ohhhh we're too busy" or they rat to their boss and their boss is like "WHY DOES ANON NEED TO KNOW? WE'RE QUITE BUSY AND THIS IS DISTRACTING MY TEAM" what the fuck is this bullshit
slowly... you come to realize...it's all as it should be...you can only do... so much...
>>106995789don't worry, be happy
It's less that you're giving me too much work and it's more the audacity of doing it, shit doesn't fucking make sense. It's like asking someone to write instructions on how to fly a plane when you're a stewardess or something. like this shit is so ass backwards that I'm just like, how does this make fucking SENSE? why are we getting punished with shit work because the other teams are unwilling to help. because I say yes all the time?
>>106995832yup
>>106995851FUCK
>>106995895I mean that's fine, you're the one who says yes. You can also turn it into "Yes, AND, this is kind of backwards" or whatever, which holds weight. If not just keep your head down.
>manager trying to get us to play some fotm friendslop game together this afternoon
>>106995915my team is starting to introduce this along with a "charity event day" for us to spend a workday to help out a soup kitchen. I don't understand the brains of old types at all.
>>106995915Holy fuck sameHe came in one day and was like "Have you heard of Among Us??"
>>106993202four people said something regarding the fact that it's Friday today while I was running around the factory.
>>106995915Better than a manager that tells us to show up 4 days a week in office and doesn't have any outings or shit to prop it upI've already phased out Thursday, and I'm planning to slowly phase out Monday with a "sick" day
>>106995939>>106995915>Hello Team,>Due to negative feedback regarding this Friday'sTeam Building Event, the monthly sanctioned gaming session has been changed to from Among Us to Guilty Gear --Strive-->Best,>Your Manager>Nigga/Nigger
>>106995924I used to hate this shit, but my team is fucking awesome, so I actually don't mind them now because we fuck around.
>>106995986If you give me one hour, I will set up a lobby and we can do a FT5. sadly I have a team meeting rn.
>>106996013ok sure. I'm slacking off from work anyway. I will be sure do to like 9 shots in the next hour
>>106995924I think that's a good idea but fuck me I am a democrat :) I am also mid 30s
>>106994961same happened to us. turns out the guy they hired didn't know anything (I figured this out when I asked him for a simple PowerShell script) and he was fleecing the company for a few months. he would also disappear for weeks. in the span of 3 months he cancelled multiple contracts and blew up half our infrastructure.
i just wanna get outcan i get a job in two months
>>106995915I hear you but to me this is the lesser of two evils. I can tolerate this. What I can't tolerate is retarded fucking women trying to organize "coffee dates" (30 mins) with staff I hate to my core to talk about random bullshit like reality TV goyslop.I once had a manager where he wanted us to get together and bond as a team. Those ended up being hour sessions to come up with 'new' ways to improve our workflows (they were already good) or he used it as a chance to micromanage us outside of our standing meetings. I would rather kill myself than engage in either humiliation ritual.
>>106995915imo this stuff always sounds like it's gonna be super cringe but usually goes ok. "forced fun" is a necessary evil
Any tips on not sounding burnt out or "what the fuck is this guy talking about again" when talking to my boss? I'm really shit at hiding my emotions and my tendency to "okay let's not sperg out" is to go completely deadpan and nod but you can tell I have the "omfg this fucking thing again"
>>106996128At this point these have to be on the clock. Long lunches, that sort of shit. If I'm not being paid I don't want to participate. If it's gaming with my bros on the team after hours, I'm fine with that, for everything else I need to be paid.
>>106996128>mfw "forced" after dinner party when you're already burnt outno this does not excuse your retarded decisions fuck off
>>106995915It's a good opportunity to subtly show your power levels and make veiled jew jokes
anyone actually hiring in this shit climate? I'm sick of management blaming me for things I already told them were going to happen.
>>106996184Fair and agreed.>>106996194Never agreed with that so I don't know who you're getting mad at. I've been reprimanded for not going to after work events, don't give a shit about them or the people there to give away my night of temporary freedom to a bunch of roaches.
i'm literally cryingfuuuuuuuuuuuuck
>>106996274omg sis... what happened?? r u ok???
>>106996013>>106996053>havent played since before Lucy dropped>have to update>check steam patch notes because everything is probably entirely different because lol modern gayming>absolute fucking BANGER slight remix of Run to the Edge (already quite the tape) in the trailer with extra sawtooth instrumentation, got rid of the elephant trumpeting sample, somehow actually good dubstep wubwub bassline, and heavier bass overall>it's apparently not her actual battle theme according to youtube>havent even bothered to see Edgerunners (shadowrun is the super cyberpunk) but lucy even kinda cutefound my new computer touching theme though, surely it's in the game files somewhere once it's done updating, they've left dumber shit lying around
>>106996211not many>>106996221I've made up excuses about family obligations and shit, and had to say to their face, it's an unpaid event that I'm under no obligation to attend, and don't have time for. If it's during work hours that is fine (as long as I don't have to pay for travel).
>>106996078IdgiI don't really know powershell, but chat gpt has helped me make multiple scripts for the medium-sized comp I work at. Was this dude that much of an idiot?
Okay, I'll set up a lobby. Give me one second. I haven't played since S1 so....
>>106996392Everything is entirely different.
>>106996399Yeah... :( I don't think I'll be a good match right now but I have a feeling you don't want to play DBFZ haha.
>>106996415I don't own that game also you a pussy nigga
I took a job "programming" web surveys to get some real work experience a few years back. It pays around 65k Leafbucks and I "program" about 5-10 surveys a week. The official hours are 9-5pm but since there's only 2 programmers in the entire company and 6 project managers that send our questions back and forth to clients. There's a lot of work funneling down to a few people. In a typical week I need to work 9-9-6 to keep up with the workload.I even took the initiative to work on other projects (data visualization, reports, etc.) at work but my experience falls short of real engineering. On the plus side you need to speak French to program half of our surveys so it's unlikely to be outsourced. Half the instructions in a 20 page French questionnaire document contradict each other. I was able to solve leetcode hards when I graduated uni but didn't land any interviews with companies that asked difficult technical interviews. How over is it? Should I try to do something else with my life?
how often do companies dissolve development teamsour last good guy who was a senior left now its me and an awful mid level programmer and our technical boss who doesnt know shit about codingi was thinking how common it is for companies to dissolve development teams. the company still uses our products daily
Strive Lobby up. Code is 831211.
