Yo /pcbg/, I got a 14600K recently and while my computer's thankfully running, I'm also noticing that spicy bitch is just chilling at 100c when the computer's idle or when I'm doing some basic internet browsing. I haven't had too much time to fuck around with it because of work so I'll ask here.

What kinda settings should I mess around with in the BIOS to help resolve it? I've set lite load to Mode 1 for right now and I already have the BIOS update for 13th/14th gen. It seems like the BIOS update changed a lot of shit and by default it made my 14600K set to Mode 18 for some reason, which was just insane.

This is on an MSI B660 motherboard, so any help would be appreciated. I have a feeling it's definitely a BIOS setting I need to adjust to help calm this thing down.

i just pre-ordered the silverstone flp-02 case. i plan to just slowly migrate over from my current repurposed dell t5600 workstation that I bought for $150 and chucked an rtx 3060 12gb gpu into. Unfortunately the gpu is the only thing that I can really use in the new case.

depending on how long i take to actually start buying parts, I'll probably go for the ryzen 5 7600 cpu and probably the b650e-e mobo as the platform.
>>
>>107026843
Why would you buy this meme case. Stop watching so much techtuber slop it's rotting your brain
>>
>>107026859
I've been wanting to do a "sleeper build" for a while and this will make it much simpler for basically the same price because nowadays everyone with an old pc knows they can gauge people and sell for more $.

i also just like the look of it. I have a realforce topre keyboard in beige that my work bought for me and this would look cool next to it.
>>
>>107026869
I guess that's fair enough. Now that I remember from the videos they actually designed it to have decent airflow despite the old aesthetics so I guess it's not that bad

MS did take bigger and bigger steps against user agency and privacy with each iteration of Windows. 10 was outrageous at the time of release, but it's absolutely dwarfed by what they're doing now. 11 literally recording your fucking screen and taking screenshots (with OCR reading the fucking text on them!!!) and feeding it into AI is a whoooole other world of hurt.

I have a 9800X3D and it always runs hotter than people say theirs runs online. I am using an ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 aio and it still idles at 50c, sometimes hitting 75c under full load (cinebench). Why is my chip running hotter than other peoples?
>>
>>107027589
ITX boards are usually higher end and have 2 DIMMs meaning you can clock the memory higher. mATX boards are usually budget so they're as anemic when it comes to I/O. mATX will have two M.2, maybe three M.2 except the third one requires bifurcation and running the GPU x8. Functionally identical to ITX with two M.2 due to space constraints. Might have more SATA but are you building a PC or a NAS?
And if you mean form factor itself it depends on what you want to put in there. Do you want an air cooled 9950X? It'll be tough to fit a decent tower cooler in ITX. A big graphics card may be a tough fit unless you go for those expensive custom ITX cases.
You need to be more specific t.bh

Depends on your use case. If you aren't using it 15+ hours a day and keep the taskbar hidden it shouldn't be a huge problem. Don't run it at 100% brightness either and you should get at least 3-5 years out of it before any sort of burn in happens.
Also remember that burn in isn't this all or nothing thing. It might be there for a while before you even start to notice it. And usually you can't even see it when you're actually using it for games and such so it hardly matters.
>>
>>107028500
Doubt you can find a better IPS miniLED monitor at that price.

>>107028776
You'll have to lower the brightness, hide the taskbar, change the wallpaper, etc.

Monitor Unboxed Tim is deliberately burning in that monitor atm.

>>
>>107028776
Burn in is equivalent to lifespan. The less hard you run the monitor's pixels the longer it will last.
>>
>>107028776
>is burn-in actually something
Burn in is real, if that concerns you to the point where you'll be thinking about it constantly, forget it, just go mini led. A mini led va panel gives you most of the benefits of oled (also cheap as hell now), but you won't have to sit there worrying about your taskbar.
Though there would be some concern on reliability long term with mini led it's nothing like oled

Could also just get a regular va panel, the "new" stuff is kind of overrated anyways and the ghosting/black smear issues are way less then they used to be even on budget screens.

Hey anons. Im wondering what parts work best for Xbox360 and PS2 emulation. Im torn between using the AMD AI Max or AMD 8745 APU. I wanna take a mini PC and disassemble it to put the parts inside of an old PS2 I have so it could be a sleeper build. My only worry is space, cooling, and performance. The issue with running a GPU is space constrants of the PS2 case itll be going in. The verticle clearance isnt enough and Im unsure how Id find the space for a card even a single fan GPU. Using an IGpu saves on space and can be cooled from a single fan.
Ill take a look into low profile GPUs but from what Ive already measured and researched it just isnt feasable.
Theres also the option of running an external power supply through a Pico but that only goes to 300w iirc.
Any advice on getting around the small size of the fat model PS2? Is there something Im just missing or too stupid to realize?

Combine PBO with a slight undervolt? Lower tjMax?

Its gonna be an aircooled 7800 x3d. Does PBO even matter for gaming or am I just gonna fry my cpu for 2 extra fps?
>>
>>107030617
PBO can't fry your CPU
it might fry your motherboard but not on an 8 core chip

Fry as in running excessively hot for negligible performance boost.

that's not what "fry" means but PBO isn't gonna do anything on a 7800X3D anyway
that chip is cucked by AMD's firmware and you need BCLK overclocking to get any meaningful gains
just try it yourself, you aren't going to destroy anything
>>
Reading PC enthusiast forums just makes me realize how "not worth it" this shit is for normies. Like, just the fact that buying high-end components and assembling them isn't enough for optimal performance (BIOS settings, EXPO profiles, timing tuning, CPU/GPU overclocking, enabling/disabling features in Windows, modded drivers on Linux, etc. etc. etc.) seems like it would be an instant and massive dealbreaker for someone who just wants to push the power button on their PC case, boot into Windows, and play some vidya goymess.

>>
>>107030814
>Are other 7000 ryzens "unlocked"?
Yes.

>Is it worth messing with the PBO settings?
Sometimes but generally in the opposite direction. Lowering the PPT to ~150W on the R9 Xs drops the power significantly with negligible performance loss. Raising it a bit on the 9900 non-X does unlock some performance but you might as well buy the X version if you were going to do that.
The 6- and 8-core models get enough juice from their stock PPT to where gains are negligible. You can still use PBO to undervolt them if you enjoy tuning for its own sake.

Yeah I'm just saying that 3 months ago the value offering from Intel - cheaper boards and cheap DDR4 - was a lot stronger. Parting it out on PCPP, it looks like you save ~$30 by getting the 14600K whereas it used to be closer to $100.

msi introduced forced 16 hour accumulated usage pixel refreshes, which they later had to walk back to 24 hours, this may or may not cause problems still due to buggy implementation, entirely depends on the screen sleeps and pixel cycles on time
this behavior awarded them a place on the oled shit list, now later upgraded to king of the shit list, due to them being the only ones updating 16h -> 24h, many other manufacturers are still stuck on the 16h counter
they also don't allow you to turn off pixel shift
both these functions are completely useless to have in this implementation and forced like this, they only exist to keep msis warranty going as long as possible
there is no force from the panel manufacturer for them to behave like this or something, it's entirely up to the monitor makers, remember that they forced this on you unwillingly, enshittyfing your display
recommend course of action is boycotting all msi monitors, I wanna use my thing how I want
hold the line, never bend the knee

I had increased the multiplier back in the day so it was running stable at 3.0GHz. No clue if it made any difference in gaming. Back in 2013 it allowd me to catch up on past gaming nicely compared to not having a gaming-capable PC at all, but starting in 2014 or so it could no longer run new games due to most of them DEMANDING a 64bit version of Windows 7, which was straight up ridiculous on a PC with 2GB RAM that shipped with 32bit XP.
I was devastated at how poorly AC3/Black Flag and Black Ops 2 ran on it compared to AC1/2 and all CoDs prior to BO2...

Include the 9600 non-X in the OP, it's the same CPU as the 9600X just comes with a free fan, and may or may not be 5-10 bucks cheaper depending on where you buy it from.
Saving 30-50 bucks by not buying a cooler could tip the scales for poorfag anons into upgrading to AM5.

hallo sirs thank u sirs finally bought a 9070 XT Prime when it dipped in price for like two hours, from an absurd 940 bucks to a way more acceptable 780 bucks. Not great but literally nobody, not even shady tax-dodging shops, sell those for any cheaper, so that's fine.
All that's left for me to upgrade is an SSD since I have a 500gb samsung SATA one, and a monitor since I have a really ancient Full HD Flatron one. Any monitor suggestions for 2k and like 144hz? I've heard there's practically no difference between 144hz and 300hz or whatever, so I don't particularly care about going overboard, plus I am anyways past cybersports age so even if here is a tangible difference I'll soon get too old to notice. I know literally nothing about MiniLEDs vs OLEDs and so on, just want a good monitor.
>>
>>107031475
I have the Odyssey G5 G50D and it's great. If you want to spend more you can look into AOC and KTC's budget miniLED VA monitors. If you're buying a standard LED-backlit LCD monitor go for an IPS panel instead of VA or TN always.
OLEDs are crazy expensive and probably not worth compared to just getting a bigger, brighter and higher resolution LCD for the same or lower price. Think 27inch OLED 1440p vs 32 inch 4K IPS.
