This is the stupidest shit It only results in gorillions of cancelled orders and returns
Yo /pcbg/, I got a 14600K recently and while my computer's thankfully running, I'm also noticing that spicy bitch is just chilling at 100c when the computer's idle or when I'm doing some basic internet browsing. I haven't had too much time to fuck around with it because of work so I'll ask here. What kinda settings should I mess around with in the BIOS to help resolve it? I've set lite load to Mode 1 for right now and I already have the BIOS update for 13th/14th gen. It seems like the BIOS update changed a lot of shit and by default it made my 14600K set to Mode 18 for some reason, which was just insane. This is on an MSI B660 motherboard, so any help would be appreciated. I have a feeling it's definitely a BIOS setting I need to adjust to help calm this thing down.
OP of this thread is a pile of shit.

i just pre-ordered the silverstone flp-02 case. i plan to just slowly migrate over from my current repurposed dell t5600 workstation that I bought for $150 and chucked an rtx 3060 12gb gpu into. I have a 9800X3D and it always runs hotter than people say theirs runs online. I am using an ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 aio and it still idles at 50c, sometimes hitting 75c under full load (cinebench). Why is my chip running hotter than other peoples?
>>107027589ITX boards are usually higher end and have 2 DIMMs meaning you can clock the memory higher. mATX boards are usually budget so they're as anemic when it comes to I/O. mATX will have two M.2, maybe three M.2 except the third one requires bifurcation and running the GPU x8. Functionally identical to ITX with two M.2 due to space constraints. Might have more SATA but are you building a PC or a NAS? And if you mean form factor itself it depends on what you want to put in there. Do you want an air cooled 9950X? It'll be tough to fit a decent tower cooler in ITX. >>107028776Depends on your use case. If you aren't using it 15+ hours a day and keep the taskbar hidden it shouldn't be a huge problem. Don't run it at 100% brightness either and you should get at least 3-5 years out of it before any sort of burn in happens. Also remember that burn in isn't this all or nothing thing. It might be there for a while before you even start to notice it. And usually you can't even see it when you're actually using it for games and such so it hardly matters.

Hey anons. Im wondering what parts work best for Xbox360 and PS2 emulation. Im torn between using the AMD AI Max or AMD 8745 APU. I wanna take a mini PC and disassemble it to put the parts inside of an old PS2 I have so it could be a sleeper build. My only worry is space, cooling, and performance. I want to save money where I can and make it as cost effective as possible. Does anyone have recommendations or how I could achieve this build realistically.

>>107029911The issue with running a GPU is space constrants of the PS2 case itll be going in. The verticle clearance isnt enough and Im unsure how Id find the space for a card even a single fan GPU. Using an IGpu saves on space and can be cooled from a single fan. Ill take a look into low profile GPUs but from what Ive already measured and researched it just isnt feasable. Theres also the option of running an external power supply through a Pico but that only goes to 300w iirc. Any advice on getting around the small size of the fat model PS2? So whats the consensus on PBO? Im building a Ryzen system and I have no idea wheter to activate PBO or just leave it on default settings. Combine PBO with a slight undervolt? Lower tjMax? Its gonna be an aircooled 7800 x3d. Does PBO even matter for gaming or am I just gonna fry my cpu for 2 extra fps?
>>107030617PBO can't fry your CPUit might fry your motherboard but not on an 8 core chip
>>107030632Fry as in running excessively hot for negligible performance boost.
>>107030664that's not what "fry" means but PBO isn't gonna do anything on a 7800X3D anywaythat chip is cucked by AMD's firmware and you need BCLK overclocking to get any meaningful gainsjust try it yourself, you aren't going to destroy anything
Reading PC enthusiast forums just makes me realize how "not worth it" this shit is for normies. Like, just the fact that buying high-end components and assembling them isn't enough for optimal performance (BIOS settings, EXPO profiles, timing tuning, CPU/GPU overclocking, enabling/disabling features in Windows, modded drivers on Linux, etc. etc. etc.) seems like it would be an instant and massive dealbreaker for someone who just wants to push the power button on their PC case, boot into Windows, and play some vidya goymess. At what point do you say fuck all that shit and play at 900p30 with blurry TAA on a console?
The two cheapest models of 9070xt just got a 55€ drop in my country. One sitting at 599 (sapphire pulse) and the other at 605 (power color reaper) so basically msrp.Thats roughly the price of a 5070 regularAlso the power color reaper 9070 dropped subsequently to 530Thought it was interesting

>>107030785Are other 7000 ryzens "unlocked"? Is it worth messing with the PBO settings?
Should I have gotten a 14600k instead of a 9600X?
>>107030814>Are other 7000 ryzens "unlocked"?Yes.>Is it worth messing with the PBO settings?Sometimes but generally in the opposite direction. Lowering the PPT to ~150W on the R9 Xs drops the power significantly with negligible performance loss. Raising it a bit on the 9900 non-X does unlock some performance but you might as well buy the X version if you were going to do that. The 6- and 8-core models get enough juice from their stock PPT to where gains are negligible. You can still use PBO to undervolt them if you enjoy tuning for its own sake.

hallo sirs thank u sirs finally bought a 9070 XT Prime when it dipped in price for like two hours, from an absurd 940 bucks to a way more acceptable 780 bucks. Not great but literally nobody, not even shady tax-dodging shops, sell those for any cheaper, so that's fine. All that's left for me to upgrade is an SSD since I have a 500gb samsung SATA one, and a monitor since I have a really ancient Full HD Flatron one. Any monitor suggestions for 2k and like 144hz? I've heard there's practically no difference between 144hz and 300hz or whatever, so I don't particularly care about going overboard, plus I am anyways past cybersports age so even if here is a tangible difference I'll soon get too old to notice. >>107032161okay i updated it to at least 180hz which makes senseim basically hoping for any of the decent poverty screens that are right now 200-250€ to get any sort of discount, i dont have any model already in mindIf i can shave 25€ on a well reviewed poverty monitor thats enough, im not hoping for them to get massively cheaper
>>107026502why was duronaut being shilled on a previous general?
>>107032142No avx512 and having 3 types of cores kills it for meWill be good if more people buy it so that it keeps x3d prices in check though
>>107032229desu i would disable the LP cores, the mini e cores Just adds more confusion for the scheduler
>>107032255I don't even think that the e-cores are that bad since they're on the same ring bus. But the lpe cores have got to go
>>107032222It's slightly better Arctic MX-6 until Arctic makes MX-7.
>>107032214those koorui or whatever monitors dip pretty muchyou can buy 165hz or whatever still but they are older panels or whatever considering all new ipses from recently are 180-200 nowif one cares
>>107032222Because idiots kept buying XOC pastes that dry out in 2 months
>>107032504>>107032521is this real? is kryosheet really that much better than paste?
>>107026502These monitor websites suck. Can anyone recommend a 1440p, >=144 hz monitor used primarily for gaming that gets me the best bang for my buck (preferably <200 eurobucks)? I don't care how old it is, just that it avoids things like smearing
>the DDR5 6000 CL32 64GB kit i bought five months ago for 320 euro is now 510 euroI'M AN INVESTOR
>>107032628>Ambient Temperature 23How his organism doesn't boil is beyond me
>>107032635>currently in the market for new ddr5 ramAAAAAAAARGH I WANT TO SCREAM
>>107032635It's insane. I'm seeing 2x8 green ddr4 sticks sell for what 32GB kits went for 2 months ago
>>107032655>>107032657its all because of AI bubble. according to GN companies like openAI want to buy up 40% of global DRAM production by the end of this decade.
>>107032628graphite pads are good but they only last for a few years. ptm7950 is same performance but lasts forever.
>>107032730>ptm7950those sons of bitches are impossible to apply though, I tried twice and ended up destroying both and throwing them out the window in frustration
>>107032705I think it's because normals think they need to buy a new computer to use Windows 11 when in reality it runs fine on a Core 2 Duo.
>>107026502Anyone here using Ryzen 9900x? Is it normal to get 50ºC idle on a 20ºC room on these things?
>>107032743you put in the fridge for at least 20 mins and only take it out when you're absolutely ready to apply. it will be a hard pad for at least 5 mins until it starts melting like ice cream. its hard to remove the plastic tape once it starts melting.
>>1070327579950x3d at idle is reporting Tctl at around 50, but the ccds are at ~35c
>>107032770I did that and still managed to fuck it up... how long until I need to replace a kryosheet in comparison?
When do you think the RAM shit will end. (If ever.)
>>107032787tomorrow anon
>>10703275750°C idle is normal because the hotspot is on the IO die and that part never goes to sleep. If you have EXPO enabled, you most likely have VSOC set to 1.3V this is the most likely reason for higher power draw in idle. Nothing to worry about.
>>107032776I don't understand, what's the difference? My last CPU would idle at 35ºC and 50ºC seems to high, I'm afraid I did something wrong...
>>107032787The ram and ssd manufacturers are a cartel, every few years they decide to jack up the prices. Don't fomo in.
>>107032787ram is still cheap herehttps://www.newegg.com/patriot-memory-viper-elite-5-16gb-ddr5-6000-cas-latency-cl30-desktop-memory-white/p/N82E16820225357?Item=N82E16820225357even comes with free mcafee (lol)
>>107032784It depends on what you put it on. The higher the heat load the faster its gonna degrade. A 65W ryzen CPU? maybe its entire life. a 500W RTX card? probably 2 years.
>>107032804Completely normal, tctl is the highest temperature measured on the chip.At idle its the IOD, at higher loads its the CCDs
>>1070328359950x3d
>>107027165>Elite 370If they were advertising this with dual 7970's and a 1000W PSU in the system then I bet it would still be sufficient to cool most systems today if you spammed 120mm intake fans on the top, side panel, and front.
>>107032630Anyone?
>>107032877>PPT:230 Wso 4-5 years
>>107032800>>107032857thx famalamsI was worried because I set the max temp in the BIOS to 85ºC but since the idle temp is so high there's not a lot of headroom, plus this thing jumps to 65ºC the moment I do something small like open a folder in explorer. And yes, I enabled EXPO so that my ram runs at 6000 CL30.
>>107032888i made this post earlier in the thread as im looking for a poverty screen >>107032093Just run that search on pcpartpicker and start checking those on your price range for good reviews?
Are cases with 3.5" internal drive sleds going to be better for the life of the hard disks than cases which don't use drive sleds and just have screw hole tool-less mounts?
>>107029486I read that on the X870:>Ethernet likes to randomly disconnect for just a few seconds every now and then>Crackling and popping can be heard due to a USB audio chip (yes, the audio doesnt even run via the chipset, it's literally connected through USB lol)>SSDs can become invisible to the board during a cold boot
>>107032784>I did that and still managed to fuck it upI truly hope that the thermal pads tech takes a leap soon before my next pcbeing able to just set it up once and forget about repasting or other shenanigans sounds great but then all i read is that the pads are not as easy as apply as just some paste
>>107032972if LTT children can apply it then anyone can. you just have to work fast with it and some boomers work slow as shit. it takes them like 6 hours to build a pc.
>>107032992>>107032972maybe I didn't get the real stuff, but I'm telling you, after 1/2 hour in the freezer there was no way of removing the plastic covers without destroying that shit. I've read in some forums that you need to let it freeze for up to 2 hours, so keep that in mind if you can be arsed to try
>>107032895Thanks buddyWhat's the logic behind ips vs va?
>>107033018if i understood it correctly its pick your poisonips has backlight bleed and va has ghostingIt seems for gayming people prefer ips
>>107033038>>107033038>>107033038
Since this guy joined, AMDs marketing heam went downhill [full margins]
>>107033018a va in the same price tier will have more ghosting than equivalent ipsand in the higher end nothing is solved eitherat this point you buy oled for gaymen or copeabout itor ips
