Is it wrong to be a little irritated how my work gives out work? They just randomly invite me to meetings and just "side" hint that I should be doing this. Nobody gives work directly here and it's starting to annoy the shit out of me. I recently got laid off from my TPM role and I'm starting to wonder what the fuck my role should have been called, because literally all I did was set up a ticketing and scheduling system for the organization, digitize a shitload of their forms, and generally just be the go-to "fix this workflow problem with computers" guy. Like, if we go completely literally I was a technical project manager, but I never had to do Agile meetings or anything since it was just me, and I very rarely had to nag anyone since I was fully aware how other people's timelines operated and worked within them.

before I got laid off I had a guy who transferred from another department who was working on one deliverable for an entire year, but since management knew how difficult it was he was able to just never show up to standups (he lived in a different time zone) and just allegedly worked on that.

I'm 25 and graduated with a CS degree last year and kinda gave up on finding tech work for a while but now I'm interviewing for basic helpdesk/IT roles.

I've been dreaming for a while now to enlist in the Air Force/Space Force in a cyber/programming role, do my 4 years, get my benefits and exit. Applying to be an officer takes too long (1.5 years) and has a low acceptance rate.

Is this a good path to a $150k+ job after I'm out? IT help desk seems like a dead end trap.
I want to make a fuck ton of money and do cool and interesting shit.

After I get out of the military, I'd apply for a master's in software engineering at Carnegie Mellon's Silicon Valley campus, get paid to do it with the GI Bill and try to apply for startup incubators.

I've got an uncle who died in the military though, so my entire family is strongly against it. I'm basically a loser living with my parents with no shit going on and don't even feel like a fully developed man, really the same person I was at 17.

Pro tips for you guys here. This was around 6-7 years ago when I first got a job.
I remember working on a tedious project (nobody knew how to program, even me) where I had to scan through 1500 lines of excel fixing data entry shit. Thinking back on it, it was actually kinda fucked up how they organized it. "Competent" people needed to do 1500 lines, "Not competent" people had to do 500 lines. I kept my actual workload going and finished my 1500 lines while the non competent people would keep their computer open and then just talk to each other instead of fucking doing the work. Just when I sit down to relax, they gave me 250 from my coworker and then another 250 from another useless fuck to finish then after I finished that, they gave me more. Eventually I ended up having to do fucking 3500 lines that took me a weekend and 2 working days to finish.
Do you know what my reward for that was? Absolutely nothing.
