I might be unemployed very soon (contract is about to expire).

>>107031719is it possible to get hired and move to any european country without a degree? I'm not a dev, I don't have any certs (idgaf) but I could easily make the news if I need to...
Move to Russia
>>107032148Yes.
I 5 yoe having mixed dev/devops positions. Now I need to finally choose a specialty. I restricted myself to two options: devops/platform engineer with emphasis on k8s OR golang distributed systems developer. How do I decide between the two? :(

>>107032343>Couldn't figure out how to escalate privilegesThis retard.
Is it wrong to be a little irritated how my work gives out work? They just randomly invite me to meetings and just "side" hint that I should be doing this. Nobody gives work directly here and it's starting to annoy the shit out of me. It's like my boss whores me out without checking if I'm capacity (hehe usually I'm not though), or if this is really a productive use of my/our time. Like I just randomly get invited to a work weekly and now apparently I have to host a demo and training session on how to click two buttons and I'm just like, "really?"Before you say it, yes yes don't care put the minimum effort at work, blah blah blah. It's less that I'm ranting that REEE FUCK WORK and it's more what the fuck is going on man? Is this normal for most workplaces?
>Three hours of scrum ceremonial meetings today Tuesdays are a drag maaaaaan

Then anytime I get a working sample, they'll pause it for whatever fucking new reason that comes up in their head that's a blocker and won't give me any resources to fix it. Every project feels like a damn mexican showdown where it's>can you come up with a solution for X?>No, our system doesn't allow that>Hmm.... let me get back to you on this.>I don't think we can continue until we come up with a solution for X?>Yeah, well it's how our system works. Unless we do this outside our system? >No we must have it done in our system. Let me review and get back to you.it's driving me crazyyyy ahhhhhhh (who cares none of this matters blah blah find accomplishment and your drive away from work)
learn a trade
>>107032406Me neither. Agile ceremonies seem to just vacuum up a lot of time if the team is large.Including standup, my 14 person team spends 8 hours on off weeks in ceremonies and 10 hours when sprints turn over. That's a lot of man hours spent just talking about shit.
Weeklies on a monday morning are the dumbest shit I've ever seen.
Fucking hate weeklies with the jeets but they’re comfy when we can just banter with my fellow whites
Opposite for me. I feel like the jeets back in my day we can fuck around with and we'll just talk about dumb shit. The whites were always "corpo"cucks and always business business business or boomer talk.
>be compsci grad dropout>find job in pajeet company>ops engineer aka overpaid troubleshooting guy>1 year later management wants me to move into a PM-like position>same salary thoi can already imagine the stress that i will be submitted to and having no experience/skills for the role make me i want to quitotoh I'm also afraid I don't find a new job quicklyI just want a do nothing job that pays well bros...
>other people don't do their jobs>this is somehow my problemGee I don't remember becoming a manager
>>107033173It'll always be funny how corpos think lead roles are just "diet manager" even though we're not.
>>107032437>>107032502Since I became “the boss” I have implemented smaller refinement meetings before the next sprint with the expectation that everyone spent a few minutes reviewing the next sprint’s issue and comes with questions. No questions? No time spent. Then come in Monday with estimates. This can also be done offline to save time in meetings. Not everyone can do this or think without a meeting and that’s fine too. But nobody wants to be in meetings for 4 hours per sprint on a project. We aren’t that kind of org.
>>107032960No fucking way stay where you are. PM work suuuuuucks they always want a timeline and nobody knows how to estimate because we do projects with no requirements. It’s an endless loop. Only move for a big bump in pay. >>107033235Yeah that’s stupid. The lead is there to make the plan, not crack the whip.
>>107032371>Before you say it, yes yes don't care put the minimum effort at workIt really is just this. I used to stress myself out constantly trying to do shit. Now I only work on stuff when I'm assigned a ticket. I probably work 4 hours a week total. Feedback is consistently positive. Don't create work for yourself - that's someone else's job.
>>107031719Someone in the office was signing Bohemian Rhapsody and now that shit is stuck in my head. Galileo, Galileo.
>>107033341As I said it's more like what the hell is the game plan here? It's like starring at the gift horse in the mouth though I guess. Not really gift horse but I guess you know what I mean. Stare too much in the abyss and you go crazy?
I'm remote (and overpaid) at a MANFAG company that is doing RTO slowly. Pretty sure the writing is on the wall for me. My manager said he has been told not to hire 100% remote people anymore, and they have to be near headquarters now. He also said he thinks it will limit my career if I don't want to move back to HQ. Guess I need to ride this out as long as I can and then find something local that pays me a lot less. Just sucks cause where I am, the """good""" tech companies pay literally 50% of what I make now, kek.
>>107033403Work is shit and always will be. There’s a lot of shit you can’t change and the people giving out the work is one of them. If they aren’t creating issues for you or whatever and you have to guess just send a chat message asking for clarification and move on. Hell is other people. So why worry.
>>107033496Just ride it out. Who knows what will happen. I've almost completely ignored the rto (it's possible to come in, just an hour drive)>face time is so important that's why were doing rto>we have no budget for travel there's no reason to interact in person unless absolutely necessary
It is so good switching to remote work and not doing shit. I am addicted.
>>107033334PMs can't do estimates because they are managers, aka useless spreadsheet shufflers. They should all disappear as a profession and be replaced by team leaders.

Like, if we go completely literally I was a technical project manager, but I never had to do Agile meetings or anything since it was just me, and I very rarely had to nag anyone since I was fully aware how other people's timelines operated and worked within them. It's made the job hunt a lot harder, I tell you what.

I need to get the fuck out of my job.my boss (ex coworker) is a fucking retard. he's unable to say "no" to his boss. he's also unable to speak clearly to the people we interact with (many different roles), and the business keeps hiring retards that have no experience and no clue how to do their own fucking job. we pay for the consequences of all of this.I'm also tired of being contacted at any time by random during the (work) day. I feel like I'm forced to sit in front of my computer doing nothing for days at a time, having to respond to absolute retards that have no clue about my job or even about theirs and so on.really, I'm tired of this corporate bs. I'd rather jump to another one (hopefully with a pay bump) rather than having to endure these retards.

I'm 25 and graduated with a CS degree last year and kinda gave up on finding tech work for a while but now I'm interviewing for basic helpdesk/IT roles.I've been dreaming for a while now to enlist in the Air Force/Space Force in a cyber/programming role, do my 4 years, get my benefits and exit. Applying to be an officer takes too long (1.5 years) and has a low acceptance rate.Is this a good path to a $150k+ job after I'm out? IT help desk seems like a dead end trap.I want to make a fuck ton of money and do cool and interesting shit. After I get out of the military, I'd apply for a master's in software engineering at Carnegie Mellon's Silicon Valley campus, get paid to do it with the GI Bill and try to apply for startup incubators.I've got an uncle who died in the military though, so my entire family is strongly against it. I'm basically a loser living with my parents with no shit going on and don't even feel like a fully developed man, really the same person I was at 17.

Pro tips for you guys here. This was around 6-7 years ago when I first got a job. I remember working on a tedious project (nobody knew how to program, even me) where I had to scan through 1500 lines of excel fixing data entry shit. Thinking back on it, it was actually kinda fucked up how they organized it. "Competent" people needed to do 1500 lines, "Not competent" people had to do 500 lines. I kept my actual workload going and finished my 1500 lines while the non competent people would keep their computer open and then just talk to each other instead of fucking doing the work. Just when I sit down to relax, they gave me 250 from my coworker and then another 250 from another useless fuck to finish then after I finished that, they gave me more. Eventually I ended up having to do fucking 3500 lines that took me a weekend and 2 working days to finish. Do you know what my reward for that was? Absolutely nothing. FUCK WORK

The only time I do tasks are at the beginning of the week, I present it to them, they take it back to review. I'll do it then it's just....alright what now? They don't really tell me to "continue" the task after they review and they'll just finish it off or work aside from what I have.
