1. Beige is disgusting, looking2. Full Keyboards are for trannies3. Topre boards are membrane boards4. cherry MX switches are trash5. The wire on your keyboard acts like an antenna, and broadcasts your keystrokes in a 300 meter radius.
>>107055527>Beige is disgusting, lookingFunny, the whole advantage of beige is it doesn't look disgusting when it's not cleaned once a week, whereas black gets dusty and white gets grimy. In the most literal sense I would say retro gray is one of the least "disgusting" colors.>Full Keyboards are for tranniesI did some trans keyboard investigations once and it's true a lot of them use full-size (although, honestly, I couldn't discern a difference between tranny keyboard taste and anyone else's). I think the simple fact is that men like full-size boards, whether they wear dresses and call themselves "Alice" or not.The other three provocations aren't really worth replying to
Why is it so hard to find 100% cases, are numpads really that unpopular?
>>107055760Once you've tried anything less wide than a full-size it's hard to go back to having your alphas so far to the left. (t. using my full-size right now after using my 65% for a few weeks)I think a lot of people eventually move on to one of the many other numpad layouts like 96%, 1800, 60% + numpad, XT, southpaw numpad, etc. With that said, there are some 100% boards coming down the pipe. E.g. geekhack DOT org/index.php?topic=125346.0 this one's "95% done" the final round of prototypes, so likely getting a GB soon
What is the modern equivalent to Micro Switch hall effect switches?
>>107055760Yeah, there really is no use case for numpads anymore. The only people who still need them are Excel and CAD specialists.
>>107055899Also keep in mind you can do numpads accessed via layers. I need a numpad for all the alt codes I've memorized so I use this layer when I'm using my 65%
I want to build a keyboard that sounds like those old green alps. Every video result I have gotten on YouTube for how to get bassier sounding boards looks incredibly homosexual though, and the result is something that sounds like a tap dancing floor rather than a keyboard, all the switches they choose sound the same like that too.

Truth be told I'd have probably stayed content with my old Logitech G910 years and years ago, if Logitech's quality actually matched their prices, and if they didn't kill LGS for GHUB. I recently found out how annoying it is to make macros on VIA compared to LGS or even Synapse that did specific things, like repeating an input/macro for the duration you're holding a key. Very niche uses these days, since I don't game that much anymore, but it was definitely quite annoying and had me wanting to go dig up my G910 lolDetachable cables ruined me, though. I just can't go back to gaymer shit unless they de-shittify their software, make their boards hotswap, etc., which is still an issue to this day since many like having their own ecosystem and not letting you service them. Thanks for the heads up though, I'll be keeping an eye on that one for sure with that information. Now if only we could get some info about the Zoom 109/Max, soon.

>>107055527>The wire on your keyboard acts like an antennaUSB-C cables are shielded, they have differential pairs. >>107060319I don't get all this concern trolling about ne'er-do-wells (and feds) using such roundabout methods to spy on you. PCs and pretty much every OS has backdoors built into them for feds to let them into your shit if they really want to.Like, has no one even paid attention to any news or politics in the last several years either? They can easily make you a target by seizing your shit, breaking into it with ease and dumping all kinds of incriminating shit into it if they want. That's if they're nice enough to leave you alive, too. Like ffs, Hollywood had mercs larping as NZ cops raid Kim Dotcom's house in a foreign country to kill him due to his piracy site being popular as fuck, and Dread Pirate Roberts had literally dozens of feds larp in a library to catch him. What the fuck is worrying about cables and vibrations going to do there?
>>107060319Usb-c cables are NOT shielded. TEMPEST-QUALIFIED keyboards use DINs and PS2 connectors. USB is practically invented to be spied on. Secure keyboards that use USB use end-to-end encryption. And no, keyboards act like satellite dishes, they need full metal casing above the pcb too.
>>107060387>you press enter (for =) on the edge of the keyboardTotally arbitrary and unimportant. You might as well move esc to the upper-right corner too because "it needs to be on the edge of the board". Made-up requirements from an infirm mind

>>107060493More arbitrary metrics to support a completely arbitrary convention.
>>107060546 mehttps://youtu.be/-ACzdexrGgM?t=126for example here, the chips seem something smaller with more pins. they might have an enable pin, which comes from micro to each of them, and all feed their outputs into micro ADC line. so micro just enables each in turn, reads their voltage output and turns them off and moves to next one. there's also some sot-23 packages once every few chips, have no clue what those are for. there's also QMK files for HE line from Keychron, so those may be revealing as well. but it's not rocket science for sure
>>107060595and HE is simpler since it measures on vertical axis, to chip, so has to be right under switch and it all works out fine.TMR reads field change on one of the horizontal axis, and placement is also to one side on the switch footprint. that might be some trial&error thing. so best bet is to clone the arrangement and use the same chip from a TMR keyboard, just to know you'll get something out of it when switch actuates.
>>107060595>sot-23 packagesah that's the diode for normal switches.
>>107060538Canada developing that shit is so funny. Canada does absolutely nothing to stop Chinese spies from participating in everything, because that would be racism. But they have a huge problem with leaking sensitive info, so uh... we need better, um, shielding, on our devices
>>107060546Lmao I know its not the same thing as the switch. I was using it as a proof of concept, to get any unidirectional, bidirectional, or just a zero point working. Im simply not high Iq enough to get the sensitivity or zero point to work :(

What are some decent cheap silent switches for a work environment? I use gateron browns at home. I'm not a fan of linears and dislike any tactiles heavier than browns. I don't mind stronger tactility as long as it's not too prominent. I'd just buy silent gaterons but I'm too cheap to fill an already cheap keyboard with them. Outemu has a bunch of cheap silents and idk if they're any good.

>>107066395>>107066434For me it's that blend between 75% and TKL where you have a 2x3 nav cluster. You still keep a stabilized right shift, less space goes to waste, you only lose one irrelevant key like pause, page up/page down are more accessible from arrows and the space lost on R4 is just an excuse to use a 6U spacebar which actually gets you closer to some symmetry instead of right hand modifiers being way too far over from where your right hand actually rests on home row.I think that's objectively better than TKL and 75%. The only complaint I can see against it is some people might not aesthetically like arrows being vertically offset by something like 0.25U compared to the rest of the board.

>>107071076Seconding this but with via compatibility I don't want my board to vender locked to windows
>>107073157Now this gets expensive, your best bet is a ZMX, GMK104 barebones
>>107073183>GMK104 barebonesWhat the fuck, I feel like an idiot for already going through 2 off the shelf keyboards that are twice the price of this now. I could have bought this, switches, and keycaps separately and it would add up to around the same.
>>107073157Keychron V6 Max with Gateron Jupiter Reds is ~$100
ABS shine is only bad if you don't treat your keycaps well. I use a normal big sized brush to wipe off visible dust a few times an hour. I wipe it down with 70% isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth (I use the Zeiss eyeglass cleaning cloth because I know that won't ever accidentally rub too hard). I do this once every hour on my keyboard. Dust and gunk can get abrasive so brush and wipe that shit down NON STOP
>>107073438I'd probably recommend getting a keychron K or V instead of that one, Zouya is pretty sketchy in my experience
>>107073562I just don't like that ABS feels sticky and slippery sometimesAt other times though I do like how soft and not sharp it feels, it has a comfy factor in a way
Also, Strawberry Cheesecake R2 > Gateron Melodics. Any day of the week.

>>107073053>invent crazy keyboardsWhen? I just remember people making shit like in your pic and stuffing it full of foam and gay shit to make them sound the same as any other muted keyboard since forever.Part of that is probably people getting hung up on MX style switches when the patent expired, but the fact still remains that's all this hobby has been about, especially when influencer homos took over after smelling blood in the water. When is the last time someone actually invented a different keyboard with different switches, or at least had something interesting about it tech wise, instead of making some gay novelty case with tranny colors or that's shaped like some object like cheese, but has no functionality to it?No one has "invented" anything in this space for years, it's all just worse iterations stuck in a small, shitty footprint. Now it's becoming even more restrictive with the HE mania, I wouldn't be surprised if it devolves further into silent analog linear boards being the only thing retards produce anymore. Then that'll be replaced by some other gamer tranny snake oil, to further enshittify.
>>107074699There's nothing to invent short of 1% solutions like $100k stabs which you won't give a fuck about if you just get good ones and lube em up. Keyboards today are in a better place than they have ever been before. Every frontier has been explored and commercialised without cutting corners.
Ho ho ho! No more flex-cut nonsense with the Transition Lite!
Stock plate is terrible anyway. Time to explore custom options. I'm excited to try out different switches and how they'll feel and sound in a foamless polycarbonate case.

I understand the idea of trying different layouts and flavors of keyboards, some with numpads, some without, whatever.I will never understand the point of buying a keyboard without a numpad and then buying a standalone numpad to get that functionality back.
>>107078045The numpad is a depreciated fossil, it doesn't make sense for it to exist on keyboards anymore. Especially in the place it is in. The optimal position for a numpad is to the right if your mouse, or on the left side of your keyboard if you must have it on your keyboard.
>>107078045you can put it in whatever position you like and off to the side if you don't need it

>>107079460>seems niceFrom marketing, but in reality it's mediocre at best if you're being generous. Analog input on sticks is a billion, billion, billion times more accurate and useful than keyboard keys, which have far shorter throws than any controller sticks, and only 8 possible movement directions from WASD. You have the "full circle" of inputs on sticks, which in practice on modern games give you full 360 degree range of movement, compared to only 8 angles on keys.>what exactly are you expecting them inventJust fucking trying anything, literally anything else, besides more gaymer snake oil that is already oversaturated like analog shit is. We already hit the autism limit with 1000hz boards. 500hz were already gratuitous for human reaction time. Adjustable actuation is an overhyped joke and will maybe, at best, give you a one frame advantage in one match out of 100 years of playing the same game, on the same map, in the same conditions, etc.Different switch footprints, different methods of generating tactility, an actual serious attempt at full modularity. Even shit like VIA could see a multitude of improvements. Make it so that it can actually match shitty gamer software capabilities from 15 years ago, it STILL can't easily do macros repeating while a key is held, for example. These are all avenues waiting to be explored, instead of the newest e-celeb shill fad over MUH MAGNETS. Way more important at that. Issues which actually have real world benefits, instead of human centipede-esque asshole sniffing cope from shitters that need to git gud or play casual games, because it isn't your hardware if you're playing on a 1000+hz keyboard and mouse of any make, unless you are using the most chinesium of chinesium implements to ever chinesium. If your keyboard and mouse aren't screaming "YOH BROOTOOF DEBICE IS LEDDY TO PALE", then you are already on the same playing field as 99.999999% of players in your game.TL;DR: anything but magnet obsessed autism, please.
>>107079888>and only 8 possible movement directions from WASD. You have the "full circle" of inputs on sticks, which in practice on modern games give you full 360 degree range of movement, compared to only 8 angles on keys.these are the people saying HE is meh. look at this fool's confidence saying itsee picrel you brainlet? those are two actuators on each joystick, they can go one way or the other. in total you get movement in one of the two directions for each of them. which is the exact equivalent of using 4 analog keys. there's nothing more or less, it's the exact same thing, minus the extra control you get with a joystick, obviously.my point is...most of you talking shit about he/tmr/analog sensors are pseud incompetent brainlets who can't tell your asses from your mouths. holy shit>Just fucking trying anything, literally anything else, besides more gaymer snake oil that is already oversaturated like analog shit is.what you dumbfuck consoomer, what? you want something new? you wanna be wooed? you entitled moron. you have no fucking clue about anything, you're just going by consoom instinct. you do not even fucking understand the tech you're shit talking lol>These are all avenues waiting to be exploredI bet your mom is waiting to be explored
>>107080091Four keys are more precise than two keys. Joysticks are trash for anything. You want controlled movement you go UDLR or WASD
Does anyone know where to get cylindrical low profile keycaps, like the ones Logitech uses on their low profile models? Not the XVX profile that's more spherical, I have them and hate them.I did find replacement kits to a low profile Corsair model, but I'd like to know if there are other options I've missed.
Why the fuck did I not wait until yesterday for the sale and order this keycap set instead? Holy shit I got buyers remorse now.
>>107057068Recently got a Royal Kludge L98 for 30% off, it's nice. I use the left numpad for WM navigation, not so much for data entry.
which of these 2 do u guys prefer?
>>107081333The bottom one
>>107081093oh shit, there you areI must ask you several questions about the L98>does their official webservice work on linux?>is the config persistent across disconnects, connection modes, and turning off?>can you remap FN in any way?>can you change the screen to display local time (or anything else)?I've heard that the S98 screen let you stick .gifs in it, but not the smaller L98 screenshame it also doesn't support QMK
>>107079888Anon your argument is kinda bizarre o_oIn tons of games joystick games, there are parts people purposely use keyboards because a keyboard's input is more precise than a joysticks. Adding analog capabilities to keyboards isn't "snake oil" because for the games that support it, it radically changes gameplay for the better. This isn't even mentioning the real productivity / gaming advantage, actuation points add.
>>107081025So you didn't really want it in the first place.
>TKD left out the entire foam kit by mistakeThey said they'd get back in a few days. At worst, I'll have to settle for Poron switch pads. Good thing this baby sounds and feels good without foam, if need be.

anyone thought it would be cool to have that controller rumble/motor vibration in the analog keyboard?
>>107082027I've done this before, I can dig out the setup and show you if you care. But it doesn't work, it makes your keyboard finger placement lose track all the time

>>107055527
i wonder how horrible this profile is to type on
>>107082120I used an array of 6 cell phone rumble motors taped to the sides of a 60% keyboard. Maybe you can figure out something more subtle. Its a fun project, worth a shot
>>107082065did you use the actual controller motors? those are large, they cannot fit inside the keyboard
tranny makes money while you gotta wait every paycheck CRACKER
>>107082201ah, ye that's what I had in mind, but I can install them instead of the battery, they should fit just fine. I also noticed QMK has support for it, so gotta find some free GPIO and build something to drive themgot any photo of the size? not sure how many would be required. I only have the one from picrel

I need a wrist rest
>>107055527very true and fact checked by real keyboard users
>>107080091>>107081703>pseud retards completely missing the pointOf course. One of you is obviously ESL, which at least explains some of it, but holy shit.Anyway, once again: the only advantage keyboards have over sticks is being able to swap movement directions faster, that's it.HE/any other analog input on keyboards is SHIT because WASD and its combinations cannot, and will not, ever match the full range of movement sticks have. It's literally just how they're physically designed. Please, by all means though, continue conveniently ignoring that fact alone, and pretending like WASD is somehow comparable to 360 degree movement.Sticks have a longer distance than the longest travel distance analog switches available have to move, too, and have less of a gradient of fine inputs to register from as a result. You know, the throw? Do you even know these terms? Probably not, because you're retards looking for dunks instead of trying to discuss things. Here, even AI knows better than you. Surprise! The average sticks have ~2-2.5x+ more travel distance than any currently available key switch, in a full 360 degree range of movement, too! I'm probably wasting my breath on retards that don't know simple terms regularly used in this space, though.>minus the extra control you get with a joystick, obviouslyThat's exactly what I said, you HE bootlicking faggot. You were so desperate for an own here that you just repeated me verbatim and shot yourself in the foot in the process.>buzzword buzzword buzzword and more faggot babblingI think someone feels buyer's remorse over being duped into HE/other gaymer snake oil memes, and it's quite unsightly, as it always is.
>>107081703And you, more specifically>In tons of games joystick games, there are parts people purposely use keyboards because a keyboard's input is more precise than a joysticksThis was always the case before HE and other analog key switches took off in popularity in the last 2 years.> Adding analog capabilities to keyboards isn't "snake oil" because for the games that support it, it radically changes gameplay for the better. It literally doesn't, because the only benefit of analog key switches over normal key switches is gradual movement changes, which sticks already do 10000000000000000000000000000x better, as they also have the 360 degree range of movement. Driving, sneaking, etc., all better on sticks than key switches.>This isn't even mentioning the real productivity / gaming advantage, actuation points add.Having to hover your fingers over the key so you don't mis-actuate it when it's set to 0.1mm actuation actually fucks over any productivity and "gaming advantage". Go ahead and simply rest your fingers on even heavy spring analog switches when you do this and you'll see you input keys when you don't mean to very often. In gaming, too, the amount of time it takes your finger to travel 0.1mm and 1.5-2mm is on the order of fractions of a second, so small that it exceeds any conscious human reaction + motor skill response.Basically, it's snake oil shit if you have even a middle school level understanding of physics. Seriously, go do a clicks/keys per second test online, you'll easily get 8-14 per second if you aren't decrepit. Now think about the time it takes your finger to move up and then the time it takes your finger to go down after dividing a second by that number, for each press. This homework is due by tonight and it WILL be on the test.
