What did Microsoft mean by this? Schrodinger's bad sector, hey - maybe we'll nuke it, maybe we won't.
This is purely for my curiosity's sake - I wouldn't actually use this for data recovery. Blessed are the holy trinity; Recuva, Photorec/Testdisk, ddrescue.

Why is Windows 11 file explorer so fucking gutted, soulless, and retarded?

icons for jpg/png/bmp the same generic shit
refers to 'Type" as "JPG File" and "BMP File" instead of JPEG/Bitmap.
Slow as fucking hell, often doesn't even have the move/copy/paste window appear above the fucking window you just pasted into (it's not brought to the front).

I feel like for any file management I want to boot a fucking Windows 7 VM to do it because that explorer just worked good.
>>
>>107076199
>Blessed are the holy trinity; Recuva, Photorec/Testdisk, ddrescue.
I use cracked Easeus. Doesn't Recuva require cracking, too?
I have some forensic recovery tool (X something or so), takes up a lot of space compared to the ones that get mentioned here, and it annoyingly saves the spare disk space at the end of any file recovered as a separate file.
testdisk/photorec is nice, but takes 10million years to do its thing, damn.
>>
>>107076481
I feel you, bro.
Also, when I want to open a folder with a few hundred pics, it takes longer versus Win7 & 10. If I want to select a pic from there to post here, it takes even longer than normally opening that folder to view pics for some reason, 7 & 10 are not like that.

You just gave me the idea, should I be able to use Ubuntu's file explorer if I install Ubuntu in WSL2?

Also, about Win11 annoying me with *significantly* longer load times on populated folders, this is Win11 IoT LTSC powered by an i7-12700k versus Win7 running on an old Latitude E6330 (that is my only experience with 7) and Win10 running on an Asus TUF A17 I used to have and on an old Latitude E6440 that I also had. And Win11 runs slowest on opening a populated folder despite the processing power of my 12700k. Retarded.
No excuses for the slowness, either, my systems are optimized.

India's government didn't like "your country's digital infrastructure as a service" meme from Microshit, so they are going to move to Linux completely with all due haste as well as subsidize and incentivize individual civilian Indian contributions to Linux development. Wasn't that what WSL2 was about? I don't see Microsoft trashing Linux any way.
I'm pretty sure India will just be another headache for Microshaft. Also, that's money they are going to lose once India and its government agencies are no longer customers. Windows Search can't find my installed apps for some reason even though all of the relevant shortcuts are in my C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder. For some reason the icons got removed, but the shortcuts remained valid, and after moving them to another folder and moving them back, they re-acquired their original icons. What causes this? Why can't my search find my Firefox or any installed app on my start menu? I even pinned them to Start.

I use auto-hide taskbar and after a recent windows update it started lagging like crazy whenever it expands. Instead of revealing smoothly there is now an extremely choppy 5 fps animation.

In this reddit thread: https://lr.ptr.moe/r/WindowsHelp/comments/1io56wu/after_11022025_security_updates_taskbar_autohide/
they mention uninstalling a particular update (KB5051974), however it is not available in my uninstall list.
They also mention disabling WpnUserService_*, which does fix the issue, but at the cost of breaking push notifications (also, even if you disable the service via registry, it somehow reenables itself whenever you open the action centre).

I have also found some possibly related github issues
https://github.com/Open-Shell/Open-Shell-Menu/issues/2306
https://github.com/Open-Shell/Open-Shell-Menu/issues/2212

however, none of the solutions mentioned there worked for me either.

Does anyone have a fix? Really feels like microsoft is giving us the last "fuck you" before ending support for win10.

windows 11 has more spyware. It also looks like common utilities such as the file explorer are even more bloated and slow. more spyware will be added in the next ""feature"" update, which means I will have to download some spy blocker software and then manage this crap all the time. This also doesn't address the other issue of windows 11 being generally slower and more bloated than 10.

Check if you have a media player installed. Check if that player is set to be the default application. you really don't know how to use a computer do you.
>more spyware will be added in the next ""feature"" update
what the fuck does this even mean? do you serious download updates? you're a retard. that's the dumbest possible thing you could do. unattend allows you to disable updates completely.
> issue of windows 11 being generally slower and more bloated than 10.
prove it. you won't, because there's no proof. if anything windows 11 is faster because of the kernel. you do realize it's the same kernel but just with more fixes, right? do you understand anything about the windows kernel?

I've installed the windows ltsc in the OP and I was wondering what can I do besides shutup10 to disable telemetry, I don't want to break anything important.

Is shutup10 enough? I'm in the last update possible.

"the windows 10 kernel" isn't even "the" windows 10 kernel it's got like 5 or 6 distinct versions iirc, windows 10 and windows 11 are purely branding names

if it's a stolen business laptop, it's possible the whole machine is disabled as there exist anti-theft technologies that can disable the machine itself. the message you're describing sounds like it's coming from windows, so it's probably not that kind of disabled. it's still common for business laptops to have locked bios's though so you may need to reinstall windows by removing the internal storage and using another computer to perform the installation to it

>the eaby account has 9000 sales of electronics, so my guess is its not stolen, i mean, how would they get that much stuff? usually criminals are not so enterprising. so i think he got it officially
well just because he didn't steal it, doesn't mean it wasn't stolen. maybe he just re-sells stuff and doesn't know the history of everything he gets.
it's also just a guess, i don't know your machine.

Anon, dat ni/g/gers thread is just too dumb to write answers file autounattend even with clicking on https://schneegans.de/windows/unattend-generator/ or by using titus/winutil (another click-click). They will never touch Dart/sccm or whatever else.

There are always some caveats, like currently I'm unable to initialize the RX470, likely due to some driver thing since I can boot a linux with it using exactly the same config
>>
>>107098945

Reinstalling windows for the hundredth time as an attempted symbolism for starting fresh and turning my life around
>>
>>107098945

Giving my anecdote. Not exactly the same but maybe simillar.
Recently Gmail has been giving me a lot of mailer daemon errors.
The kind you get back when you send a message to an account that doesn't exist.
And the original message is spam sent from me@gmail.com to me@google.com (non-existant).

Surely these are forged, because otherwise it would mean someone is able to send mail from my account and if they could do that they wouldn't spam me.
But I also can't think of how this would get past Google's filters.

Its fishy enough to stand out and only started within like the last few months.
Not sure what's going on.
>>
>>107099430
Pretty sure you can check recent sign-ins and stuff to be sure
>>
>>107099453
Yeah I've been looking but nothing strange. Only my desktop at its home IP.
And I have 2FA, and I signed out all sessions.
So my guess is either some successful spoofing that's somehow tricking mail servers, or my desktop or phone is compromised (unlikely).
I'd like to contact Google support about this but it looks like they don't really do consumer support...
>>
>>107099498
I have a feeling actually trying to contact Google support will lead to hours upon hours on being on hold before you have a 10% chance to actually talk to someone that'll help (maybe)

It's crazy that Youtube has fucked up their backend so much that yt-dlp now needs an outside JS interpreter to actually get video properly. Though at least it's as easy as just putting deno.exe in the yt-dlp folder.

>>
>>107101422
It's completely random when your specific Windows Update will actually give you the next feature pack update. It took my computer like a year or so to actually get the 22H2 feature pack after being on 21H1 for months.
>>
>>107101422
>controlled feature rollout for eligible devices running Windows 11, version 24H2 for users who have already turned on the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” toggle. If we detect that your device may have an issue, such as an application or driver incompatibility, we may put a safeguard hold in place and not offer the update until that issue is resolved.
If it doesn't popup in Windows Update then Microsoft thinks your PC is incompatible in some way and it needs to be installed manually from their catalog site.
