I want to move to a different city and move out of my parent's house. Got out of a 4 year relationship a year ago and my god... the dating pool where I live is terrible. It's like all the women got sniped before they were 25. There is not a single woman my age that is desirable who hasn't already been with someone for at least 2 years where I live. Absolutely do not mention this, ever. You will be written off as crazy (which you probably are) and torpedo your career. If you can finagle it, get your doctor to write up an application for short term disability for "anxiety", or better, something entirely physiological rather than psychological. You get a month off of work to go the crazy house if you want and while you make yourself look like a weak, sick fag, you're a weak, sick fag who it'd be illegal to fire. Depending on if your work environment is weak and gay, it might even work in your favor in some twisted way. Advancement might take a hit, but you won't be fired for at least a year or something until there are widespread layoffs and they could plausibly let you go among a bunch of other people.

I'm thoroughly dreading it. don't know how other anons can tolerate that
>>
>>107147938
Its a shit test honestly. If she tries to take control, huffs and puffs over chores then you need to tell her to focus on the shit she likes to clean while you clean everything else. If you let her take full control then you lose power as a man to make decisions. Also generally men and women have different standards of cleanliness so just set a schedule to clean shit so there is less shit to fight over.

More importantly above fighting over chores is spending so learn some actual finance shit. Make sure she is investing, saving and paying off debts. You do not want to fight an annulment once you learn she is 100k in debts to include credit card. At that point she wants a man to pay it off then gets divorced for half his shit.

Why is it that even though I have very noticeable autism I'm better at professional communication than around 75% of my coworkers?
>>
>>107147982
Mental illness so broad stroked as autism is why people don't respect physiologists as a science. Normal midwit IQ people are lazy and stupid compared to someone that is smarter. Generally what they define as mental illness can be described as personality traits.

I am going to add that alot of social issues with shut in nerds can be solved with exposure. I work in IT so we force alot of the new guys to work in the helpdesk to get it out of their system. Its also an IQ test since if you cannot handle the info you learn and apply in that job then you won't handle a more specialized job later on.

I simply refuse to upgrade my car. It is a small econobox from 2017 showing its age with 90k km on it, but there's no objective reason I can't keep it for another decade. My family is putting pressure on me to upgrade but I only work twice a week in the office and I intentionally do all groceries and errands in those days so I only touch the thing twice a week.

that's still serviceable for 99% of cars and idk why zoomers think that if they have more than one year or 50k miles the car is dead. i had a boss recently who had a literal 00s model with 300k and that shit still ran fine except for the driver's non-telemetry display (odometer, radio settings, etc. were always fucked up unless he hit the dashboard and then they would print properly (made of 13 segment displays that probably had bad connections please understand))

oh, we're talking about cars?

i have undiagnosed epilepsy and drive anyway, sometimes a 7 minute drive back from walmart takes 2 hours because i pulled over and need to wait for a seizure to pass

my previous car quite literally fell apart whilst driving, the chassis part that held the rear axle broke mid-drive due to rust degredation and my local mechanic told me it was a lost cause. I donated it to a catholic charity and I replaced it with a used 2014 nissan that cost only $4k

I have a self destructive urge to sabotage and fail my hard milestones.
I feel stuck and caged in a situation, where I started drinking a ton to distract myself from it.

And this just to get a foot in the door in a soon to go to bust economy in Germany.
Anyways, gonna try to play some Vidya before forcing myself to write my documentation for 8h or so.

Why oh why does life feel like a constant marathon of humiliation rituals and why do I have the urge to just sit by idly and watch it all burn...

for 3 years now I've been cheating
I 100% wfh and barely do any actual work
a lot of days I don't do anything, sometimes I work 2-3 hours a day and only a few times a year I will have to do stuff (like set up environments for tools) that actually make me work 8 hours a day for 1-2 weeks
I do have fill in timesheets about what I'm doing and it's the hardest part of my job, having to come up with fake bullshit I did for 8 hours when I reality I took a 4 hour nap and played video games or browsed the internet
my boss expects my timesheets to be 80%+ filled with stuff that can be billed to a customer which is what makes the having to come up with stuff part so difficult because I barely have any stuff assigned to me (maybe like 1-2 projects)
nobody ever checks in on me, sometimes we have a team meeting but that's more casual talk than actual work talk
I never go into the office
I earn 70k per year in Western Europe which is okay and above average so no way I'm quitting on my own
I don't know for how much longer I can get away this
and if they ever let me go I'm not sure if I can work an actual job where I would have to go to an office the entire day

My company is trying to enforce pair programming soon. They've been saying they've trying to do for years now.
And this is pair programming the entire day. They seemed convinced that it makes better and easier to understand and maintain code.
I think it's dumb, but they are making me the one to enforce on my team.
They also seem to be under the impression that FANG companies do this all the time. From what I can gather, it's really just pivotal labs, the guys that do vmware and cloud foundry.

At my work, help desk looks at the support ticket, if they cant resolve it they notify my team's project manager and then he would write a bugfix (or feature) ticket that we will then see and work on.
In my experience, we fix everything that's broken no matter how small. And we don't really think all that much about the users. It's just a job after all.

Implementing whatever designs the designers, who have the same computer literacy as your grandma, hand them.
They usually cater to the most retarded users and eventually end up thinking every user is braindead, dumbing down design more and more over time.
They also love to treat websites as their art projects so consistency is non existant, hide pretty much everything behind a million click just to leave a "clean" interface with space to "breath".

After 6 years working as frontend dev I can honestly say that I hate this shit.
I'm tired of libraries and frameworks, and the amount of complexity that seems absolutely needless to me, and on top of that I hate working with designers and I hate modern web design with burning passion.
Pretty sure I can still enjoy programming, so my question is, what the hell should I do? What should I learn if I want to work with something enjoyable and stable?

The average "libertarian". Sigh.

Please be patient with this general, people here aren't that smart.

I would like to do some low level programming, I dont care which language as long as it's something serious but unfortunately I'm stuck doing webdev
I don't have a university degree and every single job involving programming that I find require it
is there any hope for me? Can I ever find a proper job without a degree? I could enroll but money is tight right now
>>
>>107164646
You go fullstack jack-of-all-trades. Frontend is a dead end.
>>
sup crakkkas can a brotha from da hood get a good job without having to learn any of dat coding shi?
>>
>>107164841
Whatever you do stay at your current job. In this market not having a degree and five years of relevant job experience is DEADLY.
>>
>>107164869
That's my first guess. I'm unsure about the stack though.
As for the database, pretty sure that I'll go with MySQL, but then I have to choose between the languages that have job offers in my area
>PHP
Laravel is nice, but there are lots of legacy projects with abyssmal code. I used it a bit.
>Java
Many job offers too, I know shit about it
>Node
Average job offers. I already know JS so it would be the easiest to learn
>Python
Fewer job offers, but can branch to data analysis, data science and AI stuff.
>>
>>107164877
anon you broke my little heart
i really want to get away from my current job
>>
>>107164646
frontend is the only thing that AI is doing really well right now so those guys are all getting fucking replaced unless they have other skills
>>
>>107164895
Java >> all
A little bit of Node and Python knowledge doesn't hurt either. Stay clear of PHP.
>>
>>107164908
Do not even hop jobs.
I hopped jobs and got laid off immediately, now I am finished. A victim of the trumpcession
>>
You guys have any courses for dev's best practices? Trying to learn confluence for work with no resources or backup and it's been quite frankly a little difficult because I have no idea what good looks like for it.
>>
>>107164908
Your best bet is applying to some shitty startup for shit pay and zero job security.
>>
>>107164983
that'll be the of his career and lineage
>>
>>107164841
>>107164908
Gonna disagree with doomposter. People are being allowed to hire suddenly probably because AI is shit and the bubble still hasn't popped. If you find a job I would job hop in a minute, problem is nobody is called anyone back so your mileage may vary.

Designing Data-Intensive Applications is basically the bible for system design.
Do you want like more specific knowledge in a language or framework?
>>
>>107164985
I'm being realistic here. If your goal is to jump ship asap and you don't have a CS degree there is not much of an alternative these days.
>>
>>107165009
Framework. My current workplace is a mess so I'm just looking to fix how we do work.
>mfw no documentation at all on anything
>>
>>107164841
Depending on what you are using for back end development (I assume java or c#), you can increase your skills in that and then use that to get a position that mainly utilizes that language. Real world experience can be enough to get your foot in the door.
>>
>>107165033
The official websites for frameworks are usually a good start. Then watch summaries on youtube regarding how it works. The rest you'll learn from experience. Whenever you run into an issue or something you don't understand ask the CoIndian to explain it to you in simple yet concise terms.
>>
>>107165055
For me it's more like
>get thrown a project
>no PM
>Try meeting with stakeholders to do shit
>they don't move
>no UAT
>no one actually pushes the project and there's no direction
>projects usually get paused
I haven't ran into it yet but considering I have no documentation, I'm surprised we haven't ran into a scenario where we keep doing the same thing and failing over and over again. I just want to learn how other devs document and how to keep things organized.
>>
>>107165073
>I just want to learn how other devs document and how to keep things organized.
We have a wiki for that which gets updated whenever someone feels like it. The rest is documented as implicit knowledge.
>>
>>107165073
I'm using Replit to cut out all the meandering bullshit with a single stakeholder instead of building with a committee. Actually getting shit done. To be clear, only using Replit for designing so we can get some fuckin requirements out of it. Business NEVER knows what they want, no exceptions
>>
>>107165147
>>107165073
oh and basically replit will create all the documentation if you ask it to. Or, we also use Github Copilot which can do the same thing and we throw it into Confluence
>>
>>107165172
>>107165147
>>107165090
Yeah, any resources to help learn the best practice is from scratch? Ugh most of my projects are like we can't even talk to the business otherwise it raises too much noise so we have to just "demo" what we think they're doing and what they want and then once we have a finalized solution to present it. It's so backwards.
>>
>>107164951
>Stay clear of PHP.
Well that's one thing I was almost sure about. My choice was pretty much tied between Java and Python, whit Java being safer to land a job.
>>
How do you handle internal stakeholders that scream and make everything urgent?
>Just don't respond back
My boss official response to this uptick is just "make them happy, just see what they want and stop them from crying". It's driving me a little nutty desu. Everytime they come to us it's something that should've been done yesterday and then they act like it's our fault even though they just presented this to us like 5 seconds ago. "Executives are looking at this" what the fuck man
>>
>>107165190
That's stupid, how would you know what to build? I recommend recording it, run the transcript through some AIgen thing like ChatGPT to create requirements documentation, then use that and your finished product to write tech docu. Every place I've worked has done shit differently but basically they spend no time or money on it, it'll be some wiki or Confluence or sharepoint or something. And you just have to document what you can with what little time you have and just throw it up there. Use AI to do it, it's a good use case actually.
>>
>>107165331
I'd start writing bug tickets, track them and see how many aren't actually bugs. Obviously you're not gonna get fired for it, but one day your boss may get questions and have to go to war with the business, and knowing what and how many times they forgot to tell you guys shit will help you and your boss deflect a lot of bullshit allegations.
>>
>>107165341
Oh trust me I fucking know, my boss reaction is just "do your best :D" Doesn't matter, I show them a possible solution, they get angsty about one little minor setback, I can't come up with a solution because of dependencies and then welp project gets shelfed until they want to randomly bring it up again. Drives me mad. But I want to start logging this so I can just point and be like we did x,y,z and I was waiting for you the entire time but I have no idea how to start since we didn't really have documentation and starting from scratch is intimidating without knowing how these damn tools work and what templates to use or even what good documentation looks like.
>>
>>107165353
Usually it's an operational process. I can inform them what to do (It's usually in the SOP that they refuse to read) but a lot of the times this shouldn't even go to me and should go to our help desk. But if I redirect, they'll make noise and then boss man hears and oh my fucking god not this shit again. So I just have to help them out but I'm literally dealing with a problem right now where they get an error message on "Error: exceeds maximum amount of lines, please split the upload into multiple csv files" and they're just like ????????? WHAT DOES THIS ERROR MESSAGE MEANS WE NEED THIS IN THE SYSTEM NOW ANONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
>>
>>107165331
Do you have a team lead or department manager who can interact with business so the developers don't have to?
>>
>>107165147
>I'm using Replit
lmao
>>
>>107165298
Java + Spring Boot in any case.
>>
>>107165429
Forcing my boss to do it but he'll usually rope me in a whole "If I'm going down, you're coming down with me."
>>
>>107165391
Yeah been happening to me for years. I no longer get mad, it's job security to me. Do the project, or don't, doesn't matter to me anymore.
>>107165409
I'm not saying redirect, I'm saying start documenting the history of these exchanges because the "they're not doing their job/no THEY aren't doing their job" fight is coming one day.
>>107165446
gets me requirements in a single 1 hour meeting when it used to take 6-8 weeks

Just accepted a C/C++ systems programmer type job straight out of college. I don't have a lot of systems level experience but I currently write C++ for pay, which is how I got the job.
I have a few months until I start as the offer is conditional on finishing my degree.
Any good reading/project recommendations to get some more experience before day 1?

started using ai for coding and I don't understand how people use claude, I get rate limited no joke in 2-3 questions

Claude also tells me I have bugs in my code and when I ask for an example where the logic breaks, it says it can't find one and there isn't a bug.

will do, thanks anon!
>>
>>107165462
My honest recommendation is to look for a different job, if your boss doesn't see the problem with that and as I can see it actively encourages business to go directly to programmers, he is incompetent and your situation will not improve even if you start logging these things into tickets like the other anons said.
>>
>>107165809
You're probably right but I'll be honest I'm not as technical as I should be and the only reason why I'm here is because damn I am a juicy all in one.

literally me. today ive been working on a custom plugin for our inventory management system that lets the user dynamically run commands on devices with conditionals and as a conditional in a test run i put in "sneed" just to make sure that if an invalid conditional was detetected it alerts the user to what the valid conditionals are

Depends on your goal. If you're trying to piss him off and don't care about getting fired, just ask chatGPT for a really long way to say it.

If you want to look good, just say you're trying very hard to get it perfect or something.
