>Powerbank reviews
I got two powerbanks for two different usecases; a Sharge Flow Mini 2 (5000 mAh) and a Voltme 10000 mAh one. The sharge is more compact and better suited for a quick top-up or carrying in a jacket, while the Voltme is for when I'd go on a hike and have to recharge my phone a few times over multiple days.
Since so many people just review powerbanks based on vibes, I actually took measurements, using a HiDance USB-C tester.
Note that I usually don't have a need for this much power, so the discharges happened in parts over multiple days. Some losses are expected due to that, so consider my measurements a reasonably close lower bound.

>HiDance USB-C Tester (4.02€)
I can't vouch for how accurate it is, but it seems fine, works great for measuring power, remembers measurements even after unplugging.

>Sharge Flow Mini 2 (16.87€)
5,000 mAh advertised capacity.
Input energy to charge to full: 19,428 mWh
Output energy from full: 15,135 mWh
@ 3.7V li-ion cell voltage, that's 5,250.81 mAh
@ 5V (output voltage) that's 3,885.6 mAh
Efficiency is ~78%

>Voltme 10,000 mAh (10.71€) (coins discount)
10,000 mAh advertised capacity
Input energy to charge to full: 42,191 mWh
Output energy from full: 33798 mWh (average of 2 measurements)
@ 3.7V li-ion cell voltage that's 9,134 mAh
@ 5V output voltage that's 6,760 mAh
Efficiency is ~80%

Frankly, I am happy with both, they both have good use-cases. The Sharge is pleasantly honest with its capacity, very compact and easy to carry. It also has a built-in share plug, which is nice for when you have no cables with you. It's great for urban daily use.
The volte slightly lied about the capacity, but it's really close and given that I got it for an insanely cheap price, I expected much worse to be honest. It's still not too bulky and heavy, it seems well made, it's got both a USB-A and USB-C plug as well as a built in USB-C cable, so if you have cables you can share with it too.
Overall, two great purchases.

It's commonsense that you shouldn't buy on Aliexpress anything that can harm you if it's not up to spec. Think anything that you wear, that touches your food, that's plugged on mains 24/7 unattended, etc
>>107141379
I will never understand this kind of question, do you legitimately think it makes economical sense to send a single bulky packet from the other side of the planet?
>>
>>107143479
>do you legitimately think it makes economical sense to send a single bulky packet from the other side of the planet?
This doesn't really change your core point, but it's not 2018 anymore anon, with local warehouses it's become much more economic, as they can do some channel stuffing to use free capacity and buffer it via the warehouse. They can also send many chairs and then distribute via the warehouses.

How do you read those meters? Also do you need to fully discharge the banks to get the capacity reading?
>>
>>107143650
>How do you read those meters?
What matters to you is really only the mWh number, as Wh are the "energy" that's transferred.
W also matters in that it shows how quickly they can charge or discharge, but that's a reading you have to take while it transfers energy, not after.

The common way that powerbanks advertise capacity is mAh, but Ah isn't a measurement of power, it's current multiplied with time. You need to know the voltage to know how much energy they actually hold. That's not a big deal with powerbanks, as li-ion cells are usually one of two different voltage levels (so you can still compare), but it's a bit of a nonsensical measurement.
To get mAh from mWh, just divide the mWh number by the voltage. Most powerbanks run on 3.7V internal cell voltage, so divide by 3.7. There are some high performance cells that run at 3.9V, but those are rare and not relevant for an aliexpress powerbank.

>Also do you need to fully discharge the banks to get the capacity reading?
Kind of. It's definitely the easiest way to measure it. Alternatively you can take a partial measurement and contrast with the cell voltage, then do some extrapolating based on their voltage/capacity curve, but that's hard to do, error-prone and less accurate.
In my case I discharged both as much as I could before starting the input measurements, noted them after they were full, reset the counter and did the same with discharging until they were empty again.

Thanks for the informative response.
Just got an Essager power bank (20,000mah) that's like 80g (320g vs. 400g) lighter than what I had before (no PD so I can't charge my laptop with it). So I doubt it even having 15,000, I might get a meter like that later on to test it.
>>
>>107143948
>So I doubt it even having 15,000, I might get a meter like that later on to test it.
In their defense, not having PD means it can save some weight for the power delivery and cell density has improved over the years. But it'd still be interesting, if nothing else than to gather data in the thread on brands that are honest with their capacity statements and those that aren't.

Discharge current is important. mAh will vary greatly outputting at 65W than it will just 5V-500mA.
You might not even need a tester if you intend to check Power delivery at 40 or 65W. You can use your laptop's battery report before and after finishing charging to see its performance.

What I meant is the new Essager I got is the one with PD and is lighter. it's smaller than I expected for a 20,000 and noticeably lighter in hands.
The old one is thinner (like one 18650 thickness) but way larger and heftier.
>>
>>107144014
>>107144084
Also remember that ampacity is given for the cell, so you'll have to calculate what that relates to with regard to mWh in your laptop.
Or the simplest thing you can do is get laptop down to 25%, plug it into the power bank, continue using it normally, and check battery percentage when bank's empty and it'll give you a far more useful metric than anything else.

I'm not sure if right thread but there's no general for smartwatches. Any recommendations for the cheap chink ones? I really just need something to display whatsapp messages and can accept/deny calls. There's a shitton of them at around the 30€ price point, is it all the same shit?
>>
>>107146669
>I really just need something to display whatsapp messages and can accept/deny calls. There's a shitton of them at around the 30€ price point, is it all the same shit?
There's two types of "smart watch" - "fitness trackers" and actual "smart watch".
Fitness trackers are usually cheaper and have much longer battery time. However their OS is fixed, they come with the functions they have, and that's it.
With those you can get push notifications passed through to the band, so you may see e.g. telegram or whatsapp messages.
Some (though certainly not all) also allow you to do "quick responses", e.g. answer from a selection of "yes/no/smiley...". None of these will do the call thingy you're asking for though, mostly because they won't have a microphone.
The other category are actual smart watches. These run their own android-like OS on them, watchOS, and you can install apps on them. To get one that doesn't suck utter ass, you'll have to pay a lot more for those.
Imo get a mi band (whatever version you fancy) - it'll do the displaying of messages and be cheap. It won't allow you to accept/deny calls (because it has no microphone).
If not, you'll have to get into the more expensive amzfit watch things, I don't really know what to recommend there.
>>
>>107146735
I see, thanks bro, at least you gave me some pointers on where to start and what to look out for.
>>
>>107146763
Glad it could help somewhat, maybe other anons have specific stuff they can suggest that fits your usecase perfectly.
Minus the calling the mi band should cover it, I have one of the older ones (6? I lose track of their numbering scheme) and it does the push notification thing well, I basically whitelisted my messengers and it passes just those apps to the band.

I just bought a refurbished 7.8'' Kobo Aura One. I could also wait three days for Nov'11 and get a 8'' Kobo Forma for almost the same price.
Other than the 0.2'' larger screen (small pro) and the larger thing because of buttons and handler part (kinda cons), there is no much difference.

Is Kobo Aura One a good ereader? Should I cancel the order and get a Forma?

I want to buy cpu from Aliexpress, 7800 x3d to be exact. PCBG warned me that Im gonna get scammed by chinks but the price on Ali is 50 bucks less than in local stores so its worth a bit of risk?

>>
>>107157934
>Did I get banned or is it inactive because of the sale?
Clicking it takes me to a new section with deals, so they seem to have disabled it.
Not surprising, previously during sales they made it so it only gave 0.01€ each day, maybe they figured that made people more mad so they took it out completely.

In the end, the reason piggy bank exists is to make you have fomo and buy shit you wouldn't normally buy on sundays. No use doing that during the few sales of the year where everyone buys what they need anyways.

Some stuff arrived today>>107055509.
The Selectable PD boards arrived a few days ago and one is already in service.
The magnetic rings were a disappointment, they really are just a piece of 403 stainless with sharp edges.
I misread the dimensions on the prism, I thought it was 5x5cm not mm, I've already lost it in one of my many messy workbenches.
The ESP boards look cool, I really like the tiny oleds even if they'll hardly have a purpose.
The real star of the show is this thin led strip. It's literally just the diodes soldered across 30+awg solid enamel wire. I've been thinking about stuffing it into a bottle of orbium but the battery holder is a bit too bulky.
>>107157362
Heavy metals can be a problem, and was a problem with knockoff stanley cups a few years back. Though if I recall correctly not even genuine stanley cups were exempt from the scandal. 304/316/430 and the like are incredibly well established materials.
Weirdly I'd trust the stainless, just not the gaskets or plastics. On an unrelated note, ceramics are of much greater concern for heavy metals (cadmium and lead in particular) than stainless or glass.

The term is fairy lights, and yes they are based. There's versions for bottles specifically where the battery holder acts as a cork. Also they need very little power, which is why I have a few solar powered ones myself. They charge over the day and add a nice mood to balcony and window for a few hours before running out.

>>
>>107158093
The ones I got were pretty uniform across different listings/types (as in power types). Maybe some variance, but nothing really tight. They just aren't really suited for that and obviously less leds/m lowers cost, while most people don't really care one way or the other.

power supply is a fnrisisissy or whatever. They make good shit but I can never remember their brand's spelling. DPS150, supposedly 30V-5A but I never really go above 20V due it being the limit of my power bank and needs. it all packs up very compact and I find myself using it over a bench top supply as I can move it workbench to workbench. I also love their LCR tweezers.
The screwdriver set is perhaps one of the best things I've ever bought and it fixes a major gripe with interchangeable bit precision screwdrivers. There's some length to the bits so that they can reach inside recessed spots. Here it is in comparison to the ifixit bits. It is a jimi: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805537904759.html

>Is the mountain glass actual glass or some plastic
feels like glass to me, i was surprised by it as i thought it would be shittier quality. not that i'd buy it again regardless because its a dumb meme glass but it doesnt feel like its going to immediately shatter into pieces if i use it at least
>>
>>107158578
i appreciate the detailed descriptions. thank you, anon.
I use a 22 bit called set called Nanch . It also has long 4mm bits. it's a very good set. alas it's a small set. i tried before to look for a larger one with such quality but didn't find this jimi brand.
I haven't seen anyone talk about nanch before either. why is the good shit so obscure. everyone buys the meme ifixit, xaomi, or the copies. i swear there's chinaman out there who make premium grade product and doesn't tell anyone.
>>
>>107158824
The long screwdriver bit seems to be a problem that everyone has memory of encountering but nobody has ever had any impetus to look for a solution.
Most recently I had to go fetch this set when taking apart a rice cooker with deeply recessed security fasteners.
Looking at the nanch I'd be surprised if the bits aren't made by the same manufacturer.
The driver even has that pointless spring extension thing.

would it be retarded to buy a Yihua 928d IV as a first solderer? It's one of those pen ones that you can allegedly hook up to a power bank. I don't need to do anything fancy with it but my intuition tells me that the ones with an integrated station must cost 3 times as much for a good reason

As long as the total load is well below the max rating you should be fine. I'd use this for a few sub 300-500mAh devices with a 4A PSU, but I wouldn't use a 2A with 4 500mAh loads.
>>
>>107160383
>would it be retarded
no, these chink pine64 knockoffs are awesome. there's no excuse for not having a smart iron like these. they come up to temp super fast and keep temp well. if you're not soldering every day as a job or super into a hobby that's soldering heavy, these are way better than a getting like a hakko station.
just be aware the tips for these are pretty small and they suck ass for soldering anything more than electronic components.
you do need a pretty high output powerbank if you want to run one of these off it, it's common for them to only output like 20 watts. I run mine off a 65 watt usb c laptop charger and it's great.

Same as amazon, just don't buy it in a store with zero reviews, pick some old reputable store with hundreds of sales.
Actually "fulfilled by amazon" might be worse, on ali every seller is responsible for their own warehouse.

t. have chink Nitro GPU and 5800X3D CPU and they were brand new and work perfectly fine

I ordered a mouse a week ago and chang still hasn't shipped it.
I send them a message and they claim it's out of stock and ask me to cancel the order.
The product page is still up, they're still selling it, and it shows in stock in all 3 colors.
I think chang is full of shit and simply refusing to sell to me.
I have a couple 100 purchases on ali over the years, and customer service, the 2-3 times I contacted them, always tells me I am VALUED CUSTOMER and they don't even ask me for proof when I claim something doesn't work, they just refund me.
I do however notice that occasionally I put an item in my cart, and if I let it sit for while later the item shows "cannot be shipped to your address" this combined with sellers sending me coupons for items in my cart makes me guess that ali shows sellers what I have in my cart and something they use that to refuse a sale to me by claiming they can't ship it to my address?
The store sells 4k items per 180 days and has 98% positive reviews. 2 years old.
I know they will never ship that fucking mouse to me, but I am curious what exactly is chang's angle here.

Bought some cheap stuff off ali for my doll. 10 dollar wigs are okay, nothing amazing. The top stockings are pretty good, they tend to fold over a bit near the top but otherwise nice. The bodysuit material isn't that great to touch. The dress feels nice but is a little big, should've spent the extra few bucks for a small. The other stockings are meh, the lacy bits are cheap feeling.

>what am i mean to use them on, then?
The reason they give them out so freely is because they are basically useless.
You can't use them with bundles or in most sections, and they block event coupons, meaning they usually are useless there too.
So really they are just something you keep in your back pocket, the one or two times you buy something normally and without any events, you'll save a buck, but that's it.
>>
>>107158191
>I'm kinda saltier about it now that I know it's actually kinda nice.
If you just look for "fairy lights" you'll find thousands of listings, even as bundles, so don't worry.
I'm not sure if the lights in your image are warm white or cold white, that's the only thing to pay attention to. I prefer warm white, but both options exist (just don't mix and match or it'll look weird).
Nice gits poster.

Mainly thermal mass. I like mine, but if I have my 888D/yihua whatever/ or even an AC weller handy I'd much rather those.
Even cheap irons are going to be 80W+, while USB-PD ones (pinecil in my case) don't feel like 65W. I've yet put one of those usb-c monitors on mine but I'm sure it's not operating at 65W. Normally not a problem, unless the board you're dealing with has a thick ground plane(large copper slab/pad/vias) or is a sot-220/similar package (pic related).
That all being said, the pinecil still gets quite a bit of use simply because it's the soldering iron that is readily accessible.

On the other question, let's explore together. Pic related is a $10 soldering iron I purchased off *mazon with the intent to turn it into a dedicated heatset press. The project has been a year+ and I haven't even taken it out of the box.

Bought this wood (bamboo?) salt container thing. The lid is on a swivel and has a small magnet to hold it in place in the closed position
Naturally the first thing I did after opening it was throw it in the dishwasher because hell if I'm putting my food or condiments on some unwashed thing right out of a chinese factory.
Unfortunately the heat of the dishwasher machine caused the lid to warp and it no longer lies flat or gets close enough for the magnet to work.
Kinda disappointed.

>you will get literally no power from cranking.
This is false, the human body can output 100-200w pedaling and 20w cranking is no problem either, but of course, after an hour of cranking you'll be tired.
Diesel might not be an option because of the noise, emissions and need for fuel. Power banks are necessary but they don't do the same thing as a generator.

Thanks for the guide, read it last night at work, tried it but I think some things need to be added to it.

What you didn't note is that many games give you coins on lvl-up. Lvl up happens slower and slower, naturally. This means that games are very "worth" for a little bit, at least for 1-2 days. Then eventually, less and less.

I got 871 coins "~$8.71" playing games, that's more than a week of checkins.
Prize land is actually not bad, it's one of the best for this, 290 coins.
Merge boss is something like that too, plus a $1 credit.
gogo, shelf and various got me some coins too.

Another thing to note is that when starting out, don't just go into the games. start with whatever you get a reward from, lets say pinball, then from pinball go to the "get more pinballs" section, play merge boss for some more pinballs, then when you run out in merge boss, go to prize land, etc.

Depends on how you feel about the games. If you hate it, then no. If you're just wasting time at work anyway, they're ok time waster games imo, I didn't lose anything.

seem to be so
first time buying, so catch vouch for quality - but at that price it's cheaper to swap a few than buy OG one

>Bamboo is a delicate type of wood.
It's not. One of the most resilient.

> You fucked up by putting it in the dishwasher.
That's true though. No wood will survive that.
