>work experience
Congratulations! If you're in a situation that requires you to be here, you're probably best off working at McDonald's, Starbucks, or the local Indian or Chinese restaurant. Beats actual unemployment, as humbling as it is.

Definitely revise your resume so it's tailored more toward customer service, however.

>there's nothing in my metropolitan area!
Well now might be the chance to move to, idk, Mississippi or South Dakota. No tech jobs there, but plenty of retail and service I guess. Or health if you take the nursing pill.

>resources 材料
Y'all know the drill. Leetcode neetcode etc.
Stratascratch, the leetcode for data engineers:

Get a PhD if you can.
Maybe get an MBA if you can.

>emigration 出国
Consider moving to China, Taiwan, or SE Asia if you're ethnically Chinese

Contrary to what Reddit might want you to think, those are not free, and just because you can pass CS classes doesn't mean you can pass these. Yes even trades!

You probably aren’t as irreplaceable as you think you are, and if so your manager isn’t really doing their job, it’s not in a company’s best interests to allow employees significant leverage. Most people who think they are irreplaceable are easily replaced after a couple months of adjustment by those who remain.

For me, this is the 6th RIF I’ve witnessed and the first time I’ve been impacted, I can recall during two of these RIFs they let go of excellent engineers purely for either behavioral reasons (one guy was a dickhead, might have been too autistic to realize he was punching up) or simply because they made more than the bottom 80% of engineers. Your company could be bought by private equity and they could hack up and sell your company for parts, you could be acquired simply because the acquiring company wants your companies market share, your boss could be let go and you may find yourself managed by someone with a personality that doesn’t mesh with yours, all things I’ve seen before and didn’t reflect the skill of those impacted. I’m guessing you don’t really have extensive industry experience, or much of a family.

Sw. Engineer for a company developing the digital infrastructure and such; basically government projects.
I had a tech interview where they wanted me to not implement, but just describe conceptually how I would create a simple service for time tracking that would work on desktop PCs and mobile phones.
So my conceptual knowledge was tested on CSS, Bootstrap, Angular, REST APIs, OOP and SQL databases.

I just added personal trainer to my resume to stop ATS from seeing that I've been unemployed for the past 10 months. I'm swole enough that its believable and have friends I coached for free that are willing to act as references.

I have an IT internship with my universities multimedia team, but for reasons that I won't get into on reddit I was never able to get a SWE or any kind of programming/dev internship. I've been applying to jobs since September and haven't heard back from many and have had one "interview" that really seemed more like part of their application process. I don't feel like I'm a "bad" programmer, my main concern is that I won't get even the slightest gaze from hiring managers or ATS.
In preparation for interviews I've been doing quite a bit of leetcode and I'm working on a cert in AWS, Azure, or GCP.

I've seen a lot of helpful people on this sub so I was hoping that people with experience would be able to point my in the right direction. This is my resume if it helps: https://imgur.com/a/orQToOr

It was normal for most people to have children in their teens, early 20's at most. Autism simply wasn't an issue. Now everyone tries to have kids in their late 20's, 30's, 40's, and suddenly autism is everywhere. Curious!

Chemistry is the key. Age has an affect on it, but I would argue that what people are consuming is causing more harm, pharma and food specifically that last 40 years.
Lead and other heavy metal poisening is still a big deal, and how they've leached into watertables from old/closed plants that were open in the past.

I could have been born 50 years ago when a man simply walked into a building and got a job that could buy a home and feed a large family with no prior education or experience.

I could have been born 50 years into the future when AI has ushered in a luxurious utopia where nobody has to work and we can pursue whatever dreams our hearts desire.

Instead I am born in a time when I have to compete with shit-encrusted hands for pennies on the dollar, dehumanizing myself at the whims of brainwashed academia, usurious jews, and boomers who take pleasure in witnessing my suffering.

I would rage against the machine, if I had any kind of hope or energy left.

Now I have to write a 1000 word report on AI. Then I have to create an AI that can guess your political affiliation based on a few questions and I decided just asking questions that are pretty much asking what is your political affiliation I will ask what games do you play. What are three games that conservatives probably play? Then I have to do tvt splitting and analyze f1 scores and stuff. I love AI! I LOVE AI!!!
>>
>>107184089
>What are three games that conservatives probably play?
That's not how it works: You need p({politicial orientation}|{game}) for a number of games and political orientations.
Based on these, you can then calculate the probability given someone tells you his favorite games.
I suspect, p({game}|{political orientation}) is of little use here, but do your own research to be sure.
>>
>>107184171
I thought I just put a list of 12 games and then pick your political affiliation and I use that to train the AI then the AI just calculate the probability that someone picked a game and is of a certain political affiliation based on the training data? That's not how it works?

No, taking 6.5 years to finish a degree doesn't matter as long as you have it and can explain the timeline or any employment gaps (good chance with this market they don't even care about gaps)

I thought I did pretty shitty at an interview and when I was being escorted back to the lobby I said to him "look if I didn't get the job just tell me now so I'm not wasting my time" and he gave me a shitty look before saying he wasn't allowed to comment on it.

I didn't hear a single peep from that company for 7 months, and out of the blue I get a call from HR asking when I can start. I had completely forgotten about it and was so confused.

Even though there's 100 relevant PhDs in the 5 million city per quarter, there's 13000 applications I have to compete with so the chances are zero.
If I pick the 500k city there's 30 PhDs with only 900 applicants to compete with. And those applicants are of a lower quality and easy to beat I believe.

Gonna keep it real, you haven't even gotten into the shit yet. First, you need to get your numbers up. You need 2-300 applications a week MINIMUM. Fucking minimum. As proven by your 0% interview rate. Second, the moment you put in an application or do an interview, move the fuck on. It's over. Get your ass working on the next one, if it moves on to another interview or job offer great, but don't expect it to happen in the least. Finally, disavow any notion of being treated with an ounce of dignity or respect throughout the process. Ghosting is the norm and even more common than the word "unfortunately". If you get down on that, you're fucked. That's all my advice. God bless, good luck, and fuck you and die.

Depends if the same people are doing the interview and how big the company is, likely your first offer won’t be rescinded, the only people who might know you even applied twice would be HR

>>107191621
It has taken me generally a couple months since starting to look to find new jobs in the past, usually I’d get a crop of apps to work on and one would accept me, it seems to me like there is a lot less out there and I’m getting more rejections. Hard to say whether it’s the same or not since at this point I have the pressure of being unemployed

My old strategy was to only apply to companies directly or accept internal recruiters, I now field calls from anyone and it’s more or less a waste of time to talk to external recruiters with all the ghosting and lack of follow up, out of 100 I get maybe 1 chance to talk to the hiring company for a job that is probably dogshit/contract work anyway. I completely ignore Indian recruiters as they typically don’t even try to match your skills to the position, American recruiters consistently follow up with that at least and put your information in their system for future calls (only had this referenced once)
>>
>>107190339
If you have that mindset you probably never should have gotten in tech in the first place, tech is far removed from survival needs and the skills you’re building depend on general peace and stability, you tend not to develop any skills that you can exchange in a small town but instead generally are a corporate cock sucker and you have to make up for your lack of skills that would help your ordinary fellow man by your disproportionate ability to earn currency

Maybe if you are comfortable living with your parents, just out of school, and getting paid in equity somehow. The issue is that you want to leave a paper trail, even getting paid a paltry sum would be better, just so you can have W2s that can be validated long after you leave. If that's a feasible option, I'd look up what kind of paper trail is left behind, I wouldn't work for literally nothing.
>>
>>107194895
Technically that was the goal of /sugma/. But the main problem is that it's very difficult to come up with a tech niche where we could get rich, because everyone has already thought of everything.
>>
>>107193865
Just lie on your resume, say that you were using the stack you just learned instead of the stack you actually used, it will be so much harder to validate that. I would also clean up your LinkedIn by removing specific technologies. That's my plan anyway.

You hear people bitching about lying on their resume when they have nothing to back it up, but you do have something to back it up, and it's not that big a deal since moving between say frontend frameworks like Angular, React, and Vue is not that fucking difficult that it takes years of work experience starting from the bottom to acquire, you can figure it out on the job or at most with a 4 week study.
>>
>getting back into applying again
>there's actually job listings that are more than an hour old that don't already have 100+ applications already

>>
>>107194906
Who the fuck is validating W2's? That's just a form that's sent to the IRS for tax purposes. Nobody cares how much you were getting paid at your last job. I'm just taking about doing work for free so you can list actual real jobs on your resume instead of persona projects, because that seems to be the only way to get your foot in the door of this industry now. Also for someone like me, I have no ideas or motivation to do any projects on my own. Having someone else give me a project to do is a lot more motivating even if they aren't paying me anything.

I bet if you offered free consultancies for small businesses to find ways that puters could make their numbers go up then they'd be freaking stupid not to pay you for the software. You need like 5 10 guys though. 1 guy poking around is suspect but 10 guys are trustworthy.

Employers ask you to show W2's from previous jobs to verify you worked there? I've never heard of this before.

NTA but I have toyed with the idea of doing exactly this. Setting businesses up with basic CRM software (ticketing systems, etc.) would be cheap, and I could charge them monthly for the service since most of these businesses don't have the time or patience to do it themselves.

It doesn't have to be you submitting your W2 to an employer, but if you have a W2 there is probably some verifiable information about you that would come up on a background check

I'm not planning to either. The perfect career for me would be doing freelance dev work for clients for the rest of my life. Working for a corporation sounds like pure hell, especially in this modern era.
>>
>>107195036
Enjoy having no benefits or retirement. You will freelance "comfortably" into your 80's until you can no longer deal with your joint pain, at which point you starve because you had nothing saved up.
>>
>>107195100
I don't have to worry about retirement because I'm an only child and my parents are upper middle class bordering on rich. I just need something to hold me over for the next 30 or so years until I get my inheritance. Also once you hit 65 you get free health insurance from the government.
>>
>>107195100
You do know individuals can get on a health insurance plan without being employed somewhere, right? It's more convenient if your employer offers it, but it's not impossible to get decent coverage as a freelancer.

Isn't it just iterating once through the array to find the smallest number and then iterating a second time to find the largest number after the first one? I thought leetcode was supposed to be hard. This is like CS 101 level shit.
>>
>>107195417
Oh wait nvm, I guess the real answer is a nested for loop that checks the difference between every pair and returns the biggest number. Still basically CS 101.

that fails.
There's a case with like 6000 numbers that will exceed the time limit if your solution is O(n^2) complexity :^)
>>
>>107195459
Where does it say there's a time limit? The question just asks you to give a working solution.
>>
>>107195475
>Where does it say there's a time limit?
it doesn't
you just have to know that n^2 is not an acceptable solution for a problem this "easy"
>>
>>107195493
Acceptable by who? Is the automated test written in a way that it fails you even if it passes because you didn't follow this unwritten rule?
>>
>>107195558
>Is the automated test written in a way that it fails you even if it passes because you didn't follow this unwritten rule?
yes
>>
>>107195565
What's the point of that? Why not just specify in the question that it has to O(n) or whatever?

I don't care if it's "jeet behavior"
employers care about it and leetcode questions are gating me from a 200k/yr job. I will grind these 12 hours a day until my next interview. I know they're worthless and they have near zero real life application, but it's what I need to do to get where i want. I had an interview with google a few years ago where they started asking me diversity questions ("how does diversity help improve the workplace?") and I froze up. I am not making the same mistakes, whether it's leetcode or behavioral shit I will memorize everything and give them the perfect responses. I will give them zero reasons to not hire me.
>>
>>107195614

I've had some terrible interviews too. All of them were pretty much terrible.
>>

>>
>>107195738
Why do you need a 200k job?
>>
>>107195826
So I can maximize my chances of projecting my inward consciousness out into the world.
You can cope and cry about h1b jeets and jews and whatever the fuck, but there is a reason why the world is the way it is. Powerful people with connections, money, and influence decide how our society is structured, and how it runs. You want to kick all of the jeets out of the country? Well good luck, you're competing against elon musk and larry fink, and they have billions of dollars. If you want to be a counter force to their influence, you need to step up with billions of dollars of your own. And the way to maximize your chances of becoming a billionaire are by joining the top companies, working for the most influential people, and being in a position to capitalize from any opportunities that come your way.
Elon Musk didn't sit in his basement and complain about jeets, he went out to silicon valley and took money from jews. And now he's a billionaire, and he can lobby the government to do whatever the fuck he wants. If you want to fix problems, you need to get influence and power. And yes, in our case that starts with grinding leetcode. Who's going to take that 200k job? You, or a jeet?

here I am thinking leetcode is great for best practices and understanding computer science, and then I learn this shit
>algorithm A loops through the array 4 times
>algorithm B loops through the array 2 times
>they have equal time complexity, O(N)
>an interviewer would probably see both solutions as equal

Thank you for this post. I have a few high salary interviews next week and its a reminder of how stiff the competition is.
