Remember to upgrade firmware to increase the mandatory pixel refresh time to 24h, in reality this should not exist, still have not investigate if there is any mandatory one on asus, but most likely not
I found out the other day that Lenovo oleds also have a 24h counter for the refresh which puts them on par with MSI
many people still have the 16 hour limit
none of these should exist

I could have bought hardware.... instead I had to buy furniture

>My properly installed Gigabyte RTX 4090 cable from Montech PSU secretly roasted my rig. Who else survived connector hell?

So, picture this: It starts with a few random black screens per day. Sometimes I could marathon games for 20 hours straight, and other times my PC would crash and restart every few minutes for no reason. Diagnosis? Pretty classic GPU crash… But the only thing I’d changed recently was turning on HDR and Windows AutoHDR, so naturally, I went down the software rabbit hole. Now, my RTX 4090 Master is already cursed. Its LCD died months ago after a Gigabyte firmware update bricked it, and no matter how many firmware or BIOS updates I try (we’re talking 50+ attempts, send help), it never comes back to life. Still, every now and then I give it another go, just in case some cosmic fluke saves me. Spoiler: nope. While waiting for Gigabyte to answer my RMA, I swapped in a backup GPU. That’s when I took out my 4090—which I know was seated right (I always double-check after that infamous connector-melting saga)—and twisted the cable a bit… only to discover that, on the side you never normally see, the cable itself was completely burnt and fried. Not just some melted plastic — straight-up cable carnage. And on the PSU side? Yikes, it was even worse: actual melted plastic, looks like someone tried roasting marshmallows inside my PC.

The wildest part? The GPU was still working reliably most of the time. It only crashed randomly, never during stress testing or when pulling a ton of power. It’s like my rig was running fine on pure spite.

I never sad any fire or problem, I have no idea when this happened.

Did Gigabyte’s legendary curse finally sabotage my system? (The dead LCD happened long before this build, so that’s separate drama.) Or am I just deeply unlucky and Montech PSUs are trash?

Send thoughts, prayers, and a new GPU & PSU

An apparently perfectly seated cable can vary greatly from 7.7-8.3A worst to best spread all the way to a 3-14A worst to best spread because of minor cable insertion depth differences on the PSU side. We'll start seeing a lot of burned cables pretty soon IMO

>what happens during the mandatory pixel refresh?
the manufacturer deems you incapable of using your monitor and their warranty overrides your usage patter, if you haven't ran a pixel refresh for 24hours now you will be forced to run one and whatever you are doing will be interrupted and you will be forced to stare at a black screen for 6-10 minutes while it does it's refresh
this is worse because not only is the implementation buggy but other manufacturers are using 16 hour caps
this is abhorrent design and not found in several other monitors, which means it's entirely just a recommendation from lg/samsung panel manufacturer and not needed
in short, don't support these retards doing this

>>107233561
yes and it makes the monitors who have it borderline unusable, since the firmware is buggy
overall this behavior should not exist at all, or at the minium you should be able to change the setting to completely off/never
LG and Samsung monitors are one of the ones actually not doing a 16-24hour implementation on their monitors, but can't confirm LG
>>

>LG and Samsung monitors are one of the ones actually not doing a 16-24hour implementation on their monitors, but can't confirm LG
My C4 is LG and I can run it 30 hours straight, it only tells me it's going to do it once I turn off the TV, i.e. "TV will undergo a refresh cycle while turned off, turning on the TV will break the cycle and it will be done next time, etc etc".
>>
>>107234084
Yeah, use splitters. PWM isn't as dangerous with splitters as DC control was.

Does Toshiba still make good TV ?? or should i go for LG instead ???
>>
>>107234585
What size? Most small dumb TVs are just monitors. Big dumb TVs hardly exist because the smart TV OS subsidize them.

42 inch LG OLED TV costs same if not more. KTC is same panel but without the smart bloat. If the company ain't getting subsidized by the OS then the cost is put on you or extracted through other product means. You're not clever, you're not thinking you're one upping them by buying a dumb TV.

How? It's just a text that pops up before the LG logo for three second before the picture dims after pressing the power button on the remote, just letting you know. No more annoying than the LG logo itself when turning it off, if you find something like that annoying.
Nothing is stopping you from turning it on right away again and using it.
>>
>>107234867
>I only saw they sometimes give a message on start if they fail
Never had that, as I said, it even says you can cancel it (by turning the TV back on and using it) and it just postpones it automatically in the text it shows in >>107234957.
Hence why I'm so shocked by all that pixel refresh notification meme, I can't see it getting any more transparent without still at least knowing it does it periodically.

>Hence why I'm so shocked by all that pixel refresh notification meme
it's BAD so bad and horrendous MSI had to backpedal and introduce the 24hour meme instead
but still it should not even exist
again, because the timer which counts down hours does not work on certain monitor and every time you start the monitor it might not start from 0 hours, either it might keep running during it being off for some reason ,or pixel refresh might not have triggered now you turn it on you are at 14 hours and you only have 1,5 hours before it annoys you for your mandatory good boy turn off hours time, in which case you will get interrupted in game
like this is so fucking anti consumer and horrible idk even what to say, this should not be in any monitor
but they keep getting passes
the worst thing this does not need to be in any monitor
only reason why they force pixel refreshes and pixel shift on because they wanna avoid the 3 year warrnaty burn in
we as consoomers don't give a singel fuck
plenty manfucaturers have options to turn off everything
even lg themselve, asus, has no mandatory refreshes and let you disable pixel orbit shit and some other things
reason to never buy msi and just buy asus instead of that aids firmware

The goal for Radeon this generation was to raise the price floor of their GPUs, so people are conditioned to paying more for the next-gen -800/-80 tier video cards like the $1,000 5080 pricing.
6800 XT launched at $650 (NVIDIA - $50), AMD wants the next gen RX -800/-80 tier card to cost at least $800~900.

Now they all have a reason to raise prices further with the VRAM supply shortages.

I build custom PCs for people all the time. Old people looking to get their kids/grandkids a reliable gaming machine for Fortnite and roblox. Young people looking to get their parents/grandparents a reliable all purpose media PC with a lot of storage for their photos, a webcam to see and talk to the grandkids over internet, etc. Most recently I built a PC with near 60TB of storage because the old guy I was building for had a huge collection of music on cassette and CD. Movies on VHS, DVD, blu-ray. etc. The guy also wanted to play all the old games he grew up with via emulation so he keeps a huge backlog of ISOs.

there's always someone who wants/needs a PC built. Then there's also the people that post ITT to bitch, complain, and overall talk about hardware.

burn-in is real and you get what you pay for
200 is /budget build/ tier
IPS is better for browsing cat picture forums than VA
VA is maybe better for /gayming/ if you get a quality monitor
if most time is spent browsing then better anon spend his money on a decent IPS than a cheap OLED

naww there are some decent monitors for way less than that. IPS is excellent for a lot of use cases, /gayming/ is not one of them but it will do in a pinch if you get a panel that can actually do 120hz or above.

OLED has inarguably better image quality, I love the OLED on my laptop even if it sucks the life out of my battery in less than a day.

but burn in is real as is aging on cheaper panels, much worse than IPS or VA.

This week's score to rebuild my current AM4 rig into- I'm the anon with the white NZXT Phantom 410 from the previous threads last week. I doubt prices will get much better.
You can always keep the monitor unopened and return/refund it if a better deal kicks in, IDK if there's a shipping/restocking cost for this though.
People are deluded if they're expecting lower prices than that Costco offer in the near future.
That pricing is possible because Costco has a great supplier relationship with MSI, and MSI is absorbing the cost of that discount.
Costco also sold an MSI 27" 1440p 165Hz IPS monitor for around $100 last year through this business arrangement.

It's worth noting that the prime has phase change pads instead of Gigabyte's proprietary pump out thermal jizz that they just absolutely cover the PCB in. Even if the pads didn't have superior performance I would get the Prime because you will never have to reapply and deal with that goop.

It's not going to make £100 worth of performance difference, especially if you're getting an X3D chip.
People recommend those CL30 kits because you can get better manual OC performance gains.
Jay should've included a non-X3D CPU in this test.

you have a high refresh IPS. they get dunked on because the mainstream IPS used for business class monitors runs 60Hz and it gets stuck in peoples minds that IPS is low refresh, once you get to 120hz its better for gaming.

typically IPS is not as good at color as VA can be at lower price points.

nvidia buys way more dram from micron, sk hynyx, and samsgun than AMD so they have favorable contracts. They also had book and reserved tons of memory for the HB200 sales to China which the US blocked so they can mantain competitive prices for way longer than AMD, they can still rises them after AMD does first so they take the PR hit, sometimes people forget that AMD is a CPU company first and radeon and gpus was already one of the products with less margins to operate, those margins now are even more fuck

You don't even know the price of the steam machine yet. With RAM (and potentially GPU and SSD prices) going up the SM might legitimately end up cheaper with secure wholesale suppliers and mass production. Doubt it will be modular as a true PC though.

I'm looking to build a new PC next year, starting from scratch because my motherboard is pretty old and I want to upgrade some parts.
I'm shooting for around a budget of 1.5K to 2K, but I'm willing to go a little over that. I'm not exactly in a rush, I just want to build something more future-proof that I can later upgrade with ease. I'm from Spain.
I have an Nvidia RTX 3060 already, so I could even hold off on the GPU for now.

I have this base (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2sXMRV) to start with, based on some stuff I manually picked and PCPartPicker's recommendations.
My main use cases will be gaming + game dev + software developing + some light video editing with DaVinci Resolve. I was also thinking of going dual-boot with Windows/Linux.

Looking for any sort of advice! I'm pretty bad at picking parts haha
