I've been using a Samsung A20 for the past seven or so years. I am a light user, and I've never had any complaints. Unfortunately, my area is phasing out 3G coverage and all carriers are requiring 4G and VoLTE.

I was looking at phones like the Unihertz Titan 2, Mudita Kompakt, and other e-ink or physical keyboard phones. However, it seems like supporting VoLTE isn't enough; I need the carrier to have the device whitelisted ( as far as I tunderstand it, it's based on the first eight didits of the IMEI number).

How likely is it if I shoot my carrier an email asking to whitelist a device? From the support thingee, the help desk people really just repeat the blurbs on the website. Can I escalate things higher-up?

My two cents about Xiaomi software, I'm a long time Pixel user and upgraded from a Pixel 7a to a 15t. I'm going to be returning it, the hardware is nice but the software is lacking in so many areas vs the Pixel phones. Once you have the QOL features that Pixel OS has it's hard to go back. The screen and battery are great on the 15t but it's so annoying to use that it feels wasted. There's a bunch of little nuisances core to HyperOS that you can't solve by just installing a different launcher. No idea what to get now, the Pixel 10 series feels like a wash, I can't see myself liking OneUI. I'm legitimately considering switching to iOS and seeing how that goes.

Unfortunately iPhone is the only way to get top notch hardware and an unmolested OS. Pixel has a clean OS but Tensor is garbage. Samsung OneUI is better than old Touchwiz but still garbage. OxygenOS on OnePlus is a shadow of its former self, basically just a rebrand of ColorOS from the parent company Oppo. Xiaomi is pretty much the same, great hardware ruined by terrible software.

GrapheneOS looks almost identical to Google's ROM. I guess you won't be playing any intense games if you are running Graphene as many of them require Play Integrity, so maybe the poor performance of the processor wouldn't matter as much.

My experience with GrapheneOS is I would start out pretending that I would use it without any Google stuff, then compromise and get the sandboxed Play Services, Play Store, etc. Using all the same sort of apps I'd usually use, but without some creature comforts like paying with Google Pay or the various features that Google adds to PixelOS. Then give up and go back to stock.
