why is peqdb bad?
what target response am i supposed to eq towards?
>>
>>107238772
it's a placebo. your IEM will only ever sound like itself. when you EQ, you're killing the treble ear rape so it becomes listenable for those without hearing loss, and to prevent oneself from becoming deaf
>>
>>107238731
Hey, im not shilling for iloud either, if youre strapped for money maybe the adam arent so bad, I definitely prefer a front firing bass reflex to side firing bass radiators thats for sure
>>
>>107238800
yeah this is pretty much all i want to do, i cant listen to my aria 2's past 40% volume or my ears start hurting, how am i supposed to tame its treble? the eq guide doesn't really give us a straight forward way to go about achieving this
>>
>>107238772
>what target response am i supposed to eq towards?
Depends on your race, age, length of your ear canal, length of your eartips, your insertion depth and your ear's acoustic impedance. Nobody made all of them so you'll have to figure it out, and due to acoustic impedance every individual IEM will need its own target, since they all react to it differently.

lets take the daybreak as an example, what would one need to eq on it? the 8,12,kHz?
isn't it supposed to be "le perfectly tuned iem" by singookpoor cringe-icle
>>
>>107239550
that's not how you EQ it.
you add 2 shelfs for bass and treble and change them until it sounds the best + 1 filter for length modes

no?
>>
>>107239563

>>
>>107239550
>what would one need to eq on it?
whatever sounds good to you. some people find meta too warm, reduce 150-500hz, etc
don't micro analyze the treble from 711 measurement.
>>

You'll have to stick them into your ears and find out.
>>
>>107239563
>that's not how you EQ it.
>you add 2 shelfs for bass and treble and change them until it sounds the best + 1 filter for length modes

First question: Where do I start the shelf? 4000, 5000, 6000 or higher?
Second question: How do I find the length mode?

Filter 3: ON HSC Fc 8000 Hz Gain -1.5 dB Q 0.71

if you use peace software try adding 6000 -5 dB q 8 filter. Then open graph (green squigly line), only leave "adjust frequency in graph", select 6k filter and start moving it to the right with arrows. And try to listen if it gets alleviated at some point. Maybe make it -8 dB.

Even at -20db (4k, Q:1 high shelf) they still bother me a bit. So it has to be a reduction of at least that, but probably more.
>>
>>107240440
...hmm what about 10k peak filter of -10dB with Q 2
I really don't think 20dB ear resonance is in any way realistic
>>
>>107240440
you're hearing an elevated peak, using a shelf does not remove the peak
check the file in a live music spectrum analyzer to pinpoint the cymbal

Its better, but still there. The sound is still sharp and kind of painful to listen to. I can still hear cymbals loud and clear (although not as much as without the -10db filter).

Maybe a flathead rec update for OP? Though of the "good" tier ones I tried, all where perfectly good and they cost fuck all anyway.
Anyway my issue is I got picrel (YDX) for the removable cable as its always the first thing to go. I accidentally got the nomic one, I like having that little button to play/pause the music. Kind of silly I realise now since I can spend 20 on a good cable, 10 on a new pair (with cable) or 3 on something perfectly good like a vido or monk clone.
Any recs on what to get? Either a cable that will form well with the shape and has the button or a different pair?
I don't get how you anons put stuff into your ear hole all the time and dont get irritation and the inevitable week of muffled ear.

what are you even asking? as you say, cheap flatheads sounds perfectly adequate. why do you need more?
as far as cable, few if any are going to be designed for the ydx, so the simple option is to buy another ydx with mic.
or try fiio ff1 if you want, should be $20 or less
>>
>>107243440
I mean basically your statement. If there was some cable that perfectly fit the YDX and had a mic I didn't know about or a pair of similar quality to get instead.
I guess there does exist a perfectly fitting ydx cable with mic, and it comes bundled with the ydx.
The fiio intrigues me, I've liked all their products I've tried but from the images online it looks like it's not used with/designed for those little foam coverings? I'm a waxy guy I need a little replacable part.

Looked at reviews and they fit fine lol. Was just offput by the weird shape.
Very niche comparison but would they be better than just getting another ydx?
I've tried a lot of flatheads and liked them well, but honestly chifi nowadays I've grabbed random 5$ pairs and been happy.
>>
>>107243518
i have them both. they both make sound in the midrange. that's the extent i care about comparing flatheads because moving them 1mm changes sound drastically and they suck at anything other than midrange
>>
>>107243659
Are you being grumpy or do you actually not discern a notable difference?
I've had flatheads with more low and high range but some of them yes are just a little too biased to impress but not actually sound "right".

NTA but earbuds have extreme response variance depending on fit. Trust me, I've heard and measured plenty of them, the variance in fit for one earbud is much larger than the difference between earbuds with the same fit.

Makes sense, I mean just jiggling them around you can figure that out. I thought anon was being facetious. Is it a luck of the draw shape of your ear thing or purely the mold they chose?
>>
>>107243779
Most earbuds use similar molds and the size is usually close enough to where it won't matter. The concha size and ear canal opening probably play a role but I haven't studied this extensively.
What is very important is the use of foam as it creates a semi-sealed environment and also limits positional variance inside the ear. You can also position the earbud at an angle to add more bass by making the bud face the canal straight on rather than inwards the concha.

Any specific wisdom on foams?
I got a mixed bag of them from aliexpress years back that ranged from scratchy to soft and just stuck with the ones I found stayed in place the most. That said those super thin ones are both uncomfortable and do little for the sound, can't describe it well but thicker ones add a little muffle which is needed on some ear buds but also grip.

From my testing, it depends on the foam density. The ones I've bought so far don't seem to be all that different, and personally I don't optimize for them apart for comfort and how well they keep the earbuds in a locked position. Donut vs covered showed some small differences but nothing major.
Most of the ones that come stock with the earbuds are fine for me, if needed I have +10 packs of Hiegi foams.

Thanks for parting your wisdom anon. I guess I've been thinking theres a trick to flatheads but maybe they just aren't the ideal form factor.
That said I refuse to put an IEM in my ear and can tolerate prettygoodTM audio I've found on chifi earbuds enough for my commutes to work. Maybe taking the ksc75+yaxi pads out could improve things but they aren't quite pocketable with the headband.
Anyway, managed a bit of aliexpress coupon fuckery so a bunch of cheapo flatheads will be showing up to share my thought in in future.

For years I had MP3s, plenty of HDD space on my PC in which I curated all of my music (via CD ripping and downloading MP3s from the internet), listened to it all in Winamp and threw all those MP3s onto an iPod. Probably about 3 years ago I got rid of this, began subscribing to Spotify, stopped amassing MP3s, and stopped using my iPod. I want to go back to what I was doing previously, what hardware do you guys recommend? I basically just want an MP3 player that is good & reliable and can house my entire music library (sitting at ~85GB now).

$500 or so
>Intended use (media, source, environment)
listening to MP3s. 3.5mm jack preferred for wired earbuds

I am not an audiophile. I use some Bluetooth Jabra Elite's now connected to my phone. I tend to prefer higher bass in my EQ. Heavy metal, progressive rock, various types of electronic music

Creative Muvo - pic related. I had one in middle school (I'm in my mid 30s) and loved it. now, it can't hold a lot of music, but it was cool

it's amazing to watch. you in lalaland. go ahead and win every single argument by crying chatgpt lol. are you done???

What kind of sound are you looking for?

I'm treble sensitive and I love mid bass and natural mids. Therefore, my pick would be Softears Volume S. I haven't heard any of these though, just going by reviews and graphs.

Tea Pro = Too much sub bass, not enough mid bass, too much treble energy
Martilo = Too much sub bass, no mid bass
Aful P7 = Too spicy in the treble, not enough bass
Odyssey = I don't like Ziigaat, even though graph looks good
Daybreak = Probably a fine option. Less than half the price of the others. But they look ugly and you'll probably wanna upgrade down the line from these anyway.

the question is how much they regressed

I would maybe add in Shanling ME600 as an option. It's $204 now on discount (+ $10 extra store discount so $194). Normal price is $320. This one has the mid bass punch just like the Volume S, and not forward mids like the Tea Pro and Odyssey.

I agree with your pick except the Volume S looks... Eh. It's boring to ugly territory.

So my recommendation would be EPZ P50 which is essentially the Daybreak but you can get custom shells for it.

>EPZ P50
Not a bad pick. It seems well regarded and graph looks just like Daybreaks'.
>>
>>107253681
Well let me put it this way. I dont mind mild v, but you put too much treble like with the OH10 I used to use and it's painful.

Im starting to see that the Volume S might be the best all rounder for me. People harp on about the tea pro for gaming but I dont play comp fps. The daybreak i can get down to literally $100 with a coupon but yes they are ugly kek. Kiwi Ears Astral was another I was looking into but the general consensus was that daybreak does 95% of it for 1/3 the price.

Ill check out the shanling, that wasn't on my radar before

I'm one of those who believe they are Crin's OEM. Shell is also the same or at least very similar.
>>
>>107253800
Custom shells? Tell me more because the default shells are ugly as hell man
>>
>>107253894
Just message them on Aliexpress, you pay a small fee and you can change shell and faceplate to your liking (even with custom prints).
>>
>>107253651
are you even arguing? you are crying. what 's your argument?

So I received my daybreak's
what should I eq?

Volume S is also S tier for gaming (on par or even better than the Tea Pro). But yeah this won't matter to you. But at least this should point to good channel balance/QC and instrument separation, potentially.

>Ill check out the shanling, that wasn't on my radar before
It's more of a gamble, because there aren't a lot of reviews. All the reviews I've seen have been very positive, though. But the same could be said for the other ones too. So yeah personally I've been interested in the Shanling for a long time, because I also love the way it looks (silver version). But it feels like a riskier purchase than a more well-known product.

They are sort of the target, get used to new meta first then start experimenting.

Im not sure if p50 is worth it over daybreak if it really is the same thing. Daybreak is 126 before coupon, p50 is 190 before coupon and customization, which i dont know how much it is.

>>
>>107254206
unfortunate as they actually make some decent pos (non fox)
>>
>>107253681
The funny thing about this is ive seen quite a few claim the daybreak was too fatiguing but the P7 is a warmer more enjoyable tuning and not too spicy. This seems to contradict graphs

But the P7 looks more fatiguing on the graph, at least to my eyes.
