So obviously the data center orders has caused RAM prices to skyrocket, and it's also going to raise SSD prices too. Is that only for NVME SSDs or does it affect all SSDs including SATA ones?

Also what about internal HDDs, will those prices go up?

I have 2 8gb sticks of samsung b die which I no longer need. Should I sell them yet, or will they actually go up in value? Also have an old EVGA thickboy 2070 super - I should just sell it right? It's not going to be a collector's item or anything? Seems the best I'd get is around $100 which is a shame because it really is a beast for a 2070s.

idk about that, not so familiar with the AMD family and its iterations.

originally i considered (and budgeted for) another workstation but realized it was just because i was used to having workstation class hardware. once i got past that hangup i decided to go low-power so i went for the BD790i X3D and i will re-use my 4070 Super in it.

>sort of like building a laptop into a little box, kek

even getting screwed on RAM it's less that building up a "new" used workstation and that left room in the budget for a new pair of monitors (i get one, the wife gets the other)

How much will the 5070s 12gb vram fuck me over if I want to do AI stuff?

I'm frustrated because it's basically perfect performance for my relatively shit CPU (5700x) but I also want to be able to make clips of cats doing martial arts without wrestling with my ram usage the whole time.

I can't afford a 5070ti because I'm too poor and brown. However I don't really want to drop down to a 5060ti 16gb as it seems medium mid at best. I'm coming off a Vega 56 though so anything will be a huge upgrade.

Random ass question
I bought a used 3060TI 2 years ago and it works beautifully, no complaints there
However the card doesn't turn off the monitor when i turn off the computer. Computer will go off, the image will go black and then the monitor come back up wiht whatever its his non signal screen. My previous screen connected on hdmi was just a blue panel, this one connected through display port says that its receiving no signal and then goes to power saving mode, so to a point this one does turn off but now as it should.
It happened with another monitor i tested with, and it only started happening with this card.
Anybody has any idea of anything to try? its just the most minor of quirks, but i would fix it if i can.
Thank you for reading my blog anon.
>>
>>107290649
>this one connected through display port says that its receiving no signal and then goes to power saving mode
So it works normally? That's great.
>>
>>107290687
well sorta
it does it in like two steps? i think that it should just go down with the pc, instead goes down, turns on again with a while foggy screen displaying the no signal and then like 15 secs later goes down
So in the end this is a better situation than the previous monitor that i had to turn down with the button and back on in the morning but its still not how it should be (i think)

Get a USB hub with a long cable? or what are you trying to do? Plug headphones or something in?

These are problems that can be solved by just.. not touching the machine, and relocating what you interact with to the desk instead. USB audio interface, USB hub, external power button, etc.

I might as well forget about the front I/O and use the motherboard ports for that since they are probably better. It's just that it feels like the case has been designed to stand on a desk close to your hands. My only alternative is to move the vesa mount more on the side and leave it off centered

slight correction, it doesn't flash onto astrals and astral LCs made before the astral white was launched since asus silently updated the PCB and firmware to address and support 3 fan channels (because of der8auer's kvetching videos) which breaks compatibility between the astral white & matrix and the older tuf, astral black & astral LC which only supports 2 fan channels

Alright lads, rate my haul - these are parts for my b450/5700x3d build i bought this month
Super Flower 750w Combat psu - $60 (upgrading from decade old EVGA 750G2 that has trouble with transients)
Used DDR4 32gb 3400mhz kit - $90 (upgrading from 16gb)
RX 6800 - $280 (upgrading from 5700xt)
heard about the ram shit and decided to act
I was looking at used RX 6700xts but the prices went crazy so I moved up to the next tier.

This monitor is pretty bad which was surprising to me. VRR flicker is there and bad (worse than my oled), viewing angles were honestly embarrassing. You can sit directly in front of this monitor and the top and bottom of it will have horrible gamma shift. The matte coating is even worse than the red magic mini led I got back in 2023. The OSD is bad too. When HDR is enabled almost all of the display settings are grayed out.

The only positive is it is actually brighter than the M27P6 and has noticeably better contrast. Not enough to keep it though. I'm going to stick with my KTC monitors + OLED and call it a day. Mini LED is probably never going to be good unless it has over 10k+ dimming zones.
>>
>>107292413
I forgot to mention that the 1152 zones on my current monitor are somehow better than the 2304 on the tcl monitor. Dimming algo really makes all the difference huh. I don't understand why 1152 zones seem to be better than any 2304+ zone monitor. Even the Red Magic monitor with 5088 sucked ass.

the bandwidth speed is much higher so the cl has to be looser (higher). ddr5 is still faster in the end.
>>
>>107292536
timings are just a way to regulate how much delay the memory controller should wait for when carrying out instructions so that it receives data properly and not garbled junk. the fundamental technology of ram hasnt changed since ddr1 and so the latency has stagnated since ddr2 at about 7-12ns access delay for the simplest read operation (tCL) and the amount of cycles will scale according to the ram's signaling speed to get that 7-12ns delay.

so I want to upgrade my NVME drive. right now windows is installed on a gen 4 nvme ssd that sits in my motherboard primary m2 slot. That slot supports gen 5 drives while the two other slots only support gen 4.
I found a great deal on a gen 5 4tb ssd and I would like to use it as my main drive, but I have a few questions. can I just swap ssd after saving everything and reinstall windows on the new one with no issues?
also the primary slot uses the motherboard integrated heatsink. When I first installed it, I remember removing the protective film. Will it be reapplied if I swap the ssd, or should I buy the version with the heatsink and leave the motherboard integrated heatsink?
for reference, the botherboard is B650 Aorus Elite Ax v2 and the ssd is crucial t700. Thanks

Yes gigabyte shows the pcie lane routing diagram in the board's manual available on the motherboard's page.
The bundle options suck pretty bad
Between the three I'd just pick the gigabyte I guess. The msi -P is pretty low quality and the x870e-e's new gpu quick release mechanism is janky and a downgrade from the older button release design.
I'd strongly suggest to ignore the bundle deal and get something like the msi x870e tomahawk if it doesn't cost too much more.

Anything more complex than "2 sticks from 1 set" can cause compatibility issues and/or require tweaking speed down.
Or it might run perfectly fine, especially if all ram chips are from same fab.
What speed/timings? Generally 10ns+ often works even with different manufacturers but it also depends on chipset.

Thanks for the explanation. I was thinking of maybe getting a single gen 5 nvme and then expanding with gen 4, sata, and hdds. So it sounds like if I put the gen 5 nvme in the M2B_CPU or M2C_CPU, it will throttle the gpu I put in the PCI 5.0 slot?

>>107293338
The other versions are cheaper by themselves but the ice one is in a bundle that shaves off $150.
>>
>>107293311
I'd say its probably a cpu bottleneck. Use a performance monitoring overlay like capframex (simple to use) or msi afterburner (requires some setup) and observe the gpu usage % and clockspeed. If it drops erratically while cpu usage spikes up then its a cpu bottleneck.
>>
>>107290931
Oh the Miku version is a Helios 2. I build earlier this year with the Helios only available. I'm a bit pissed but at the same time the only versions available are black, white and Miku but no silver/white anymore. Looks nice though in future for my next build I'd probably get a BTF case
>>
>>107293406
So weirdly, it's a simultaneous collapse in both CPU and GPU usage. But again I think it's just Warframe as I can't replicate it on other games just yet.
Will download it though now and see what I find.

Yea, although the actual throttling will most likely be very minor unless you are using a 5090. And any M2 in one of those slots will cause throttling, not just gen 5.
>>
>>107293430

Hello, I turn to you in great need.
Couple days ago my displays just suddenly went dark. The PC kept running, I didn't notice any weird sounds, fans ans light were working. Rebooting did nothing to fix it. I removed the GPU, still nothing. Went to a local shop to check GPU, it works fine (Guy did it for free, entire PC troubleshooting would cost lots). Said a Mainboard issue is most likely, I had a fucked Mobo once, so i got a new one. Same problem. Now I got a new PSU because i noticed that mouse and keyboard get no power, same problem. I tried switching RAM around, only using one and so on.

So here I am, current status:
>PC turns on
>fans spinning
>Mobo has no lights (Showed CPU light, but went away after using a single RAM stick, could be XMP issue because new Mobo)
>both monitors no signal
>mouse/keyboard no power (work fine on laptop)
>SSD works fine (connected to laptop)

Im kinda about to give up here. A repair shop is too costly considering I planned to get a new rig anyway, just not now... so I'm reluctant to waste money on a repair.

I'm also stumped why not even the keyboard gets any power. Shouldn't the Mobo work even without GPU, CPU or RAM? Do any of you have ideas to fix this mess?

I have 2 kits like that but haven't tried pairing them because my understanding is that only the lower capacity will be recognized and it'll run as 4x8gb sticks and ultimately worse than the 2x16gb.

Do update us on what happens and how it performs. I'm interested.
>>
>>107293662
So, if i took out the CPU, would I be able to get into BIOS? My mobo doesn't have integrated graphics, so if I keep my GPU in, took out the CPU would it be able to open BIOS?
>>
>>107293732
nope. getting into bios requires a cpu
>>
>>107293722
It will recognize their sizes. I say this as someone who used to run the following setup with DDR3. 2x2gb sicks and 1x8gb sticks. Recognized it as a 12gb system. Only if the ram sticks have different speeds does this matter. If you have a 2666mhz kit and 3200mhz kit the system will run at 2666mhz if you mix the sticks.
>>

yes pcie is backwards compatible and it will work fine. you can even use software to clone your drive exactly as it is onto the new ssd so you don't have to reinstall and manually move files over.

just reuse the motherboard heatsink with the old thermal pad, it will work just fine as long as it contacts the new ssd.
>>
just reinstall the OS, it's good to reinstall it every year, stuff runs much faster, specially if you have a custom debloated iso you debloated yourself with ntlife
>>
>>107293905
any recommendation for the software to clone the ssd? My current ssd has two partitions, one for the windows install the other for pretty much everything else, will that clone it as well?
and since I'll be moving the previous nvme ssd, will the thermal pad stick or is it easy to peel off?

55" is fuck huge and you really need to sit far away, more than the youtube jeet from pic related is sitting too
it really is too tall really need to be further away

As for flight sims, MSFS wants 64GB of RAM and a internet connection because it constant downloads the environment and loads it in as you play it
