I was under a rock when the 30-series were brand new (busy with university and getting drunk). Was the 3090 ever thought of in the same way we think of the 4090 and 5090 today? In hindsight it seems like a very mediocre GPU. It's barely more powerful than the 3080 Ti, and on part with the 5070, which is a midrange 250W card...
On the other hand the 4090 is still the second best GPU after the 5090, and the 5080 can't remotely touch it.
Moreover, memes about the 4090 were everywhere unlike the 3090.
>>
the nvidiots are back after installing the latest driver hotfix......
>>
>>107321514
Most of custom shaders only supported with Nvidia card. But you do you. Dont come crying when something is wrong with your Blender because of your AMD card
>>
>>107321515
No it was still considered more like a Titan and not really for gaming or to buy. The 3080 is what everyone cared about. Too bad mining+covid meant nobody could actually buy any 30 series cards.

4090 was a node jump it was always going to have massive gains over 3090. 4090 was also the time devs started saying buy the 4090 for 4K

I will be using this for Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom for retouching, plus I've been doing a lot of GPU video filtering lately with ffmpeg and Vulkan/OpenCL to speed up video encoding. I don't have any use for cuda (yet) although I reckon I might at some point if I follow this path. How bad would the 9060 xt 16gb be vs something like the 5060 ti 16gb in those scenarios?

>>
>>107321515
3090 was universally shat on for costing 115% more than the 3080 and only being like 15% faster. Anyone in the market for a highend card at the time ignored its existence and simply went for the 3080 if they could find one
>>
>>107321515
Also the 4090 was great but the reason its still the second fastest is because nvidia massively cheaped out on the 5080's silicon die. They chose to keep the die area the same to cut costs unlike the 5090 which got a 23% enlargement. If they had enlarged it by 23%, it would have easily beaten the 4090 in performance.

question, how good is the memory controller on AM4 boards? I'm wondering if my 5600g can run 4x 3600MHz CL18 sticks, I currently only have 2 and I want to expand, putting in 2 more sticks would be cheaper, but I rely on the memory being clocked fairly high cause it matters a lot for the iGPU.

Are M.2 SSD prices safe?

Man, I sure picked a good moment to want a new pc. I was thinking of just starting from scratch since it's around 5 years old now, but with the current prices I'm not really feeling it. So now I'm thinking of just upgrading some bits of my current pc and keep trucking for another year or 2-3, but I'd like if someone could sanity check the plan for each part, to see if I'm being a moron or not.

Currently I've got:
>R5 3600: Either try to get a cheap 5700 or 5700X3D secondhand somewhere, or just keep using this thing until I can get a ddr5 cpu+mobo+ram combo at a non-stupid price
>2x8GB DDR4 3200CL: Try and snipe either an additional 2x8gb or 2x16 gb secondhand to get to 32 in total
>RX6700 XT: the youngest part of my pc, got it from one of those AMD queues back in the beginning of 2022, because my R570 died on me and it was the only option I could get at non-scalper prices at the time. I'm thinking of maybe replacing it with 5060TI 16GB? Which if I'm reading the comparisons correctly should be a slight performance boost, but more importantly should also allow me to actually enable ray tracing in games and fuck around a bit with image generation

I currently still game at 1080p, but I'm getting myself a 1440p monitor no later than january for sure. I'm in western europe, and a quick glance shows the 5060TI 16gb model going for around 420-440 euro here currently.
>>
>>107322975
Monitor shopping is such a nightmare right now. Feels like all the new technologies are weird half-measures and the QC is all over the place.

cheap 5700/5800x can happen 2nd hand, x3d is not happening cheap unless you get it from a friend taking pity off you, they are now 2nd hand just slightly cheaper than they were ON RELEASE, keep in mind the 5800x is a 105w chip so you miht want to pick a decent cooler (im assuming you are on tyzen stock cooler for the 3600)
32gb of cheap ddr4 ram is achievable
That and a 5060TI 16gb will play at 1440p for a long while
If you ever want to move to am5 the card (and that cooler i mentioned) move with you the rest is sold to the 2nd hand market

Define Mini lacks the bells and whistles of the regular/XL variant (hinged front panel, optical drive bay) but it still has dust filters and the removable top panel over the Pop Silent. I'd only really go for the latter if you can't go without the 5.25 bay.
Have you completely ruled out mesh front options? If your GPU doesn't whine and you don't use HDDs, they could be as if not more silent. Solid front cases aren't that good against fan noises, they mainly isolate from other internal sounds.

I'm ashamed to admit it but I'm so out of touch when it comes to new PCs. The main reason is that I gave up playing games on PC more than 10 years ago, I only play on game consoles. I would like to replace my PC that I bought in 2014 (yeah, I know). So I need it for normal things, everything except games. I don't run graphically demanding programs, which is already evident from the fact that I don't have a dedicated graphics card

I'm currently using a 256GB SSD for the OS and 7TB on old HDDs. Is it possible to get a similar amount of space with just SSDs these days for a fairly reasonable price? I need the space because I use it for Plex Media Server

My current Build:

>ASRock H97M-ITX/ac
>Intel Core i3 4350 (3.60Ghz, 4MB) BOX
>Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 1600Mhz cl9 KIT - 1.50V

I don't think this is the correct general to ask this question but I can't find one that matches it as well. ASUS: ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM /xg27ucdm
Dell / Alienware: AW2725Q
MSI: MPG 272URX QD-OLED
Samsung: Odyssey OLED G81SF

If you can afford asus go with them
If msi is cheaper I guess you can consider them but lesser features and settings
Alienware had some catastrophic problem not sure if it's been fixed but it can be very cheap
Samsung has a matte screen that people hate and a bad knob In the back that can break, but consider if cheap

i was wondering that as well
the only reason ddr5 is overpriced is because low supply from ai companies buying more ram for their ai datacenters which i assume use epyc or intel offerings that are ddr5

All those are glossy except the Samsung
The g81sf has a really heavy matte coating, but you might not mind it if you have lights, but glossy is not a problem unless you have direct reflections in the monitor
Lenovo has a 24hour mandatory pixel refresh like msi, also
Samsung has none

They all have the same panel so depends what features u want, all are qdoled so not the best for bright rooms anyway
Glossy will look better than matte kinda regardless but you are forced Samsung if you want an oled, 27", 4k
If you can go 32" you have woled like lgs 32" or pg32ucdp if you really want matte..

I don't know anyone who has components spare right now, so I suppose the X3D is out. Guess I'll aim for the 5700 then. I'm using an aftermarket cooler currently, so I should be good there
>32gb of cheap ddr4 ram is achievable
Nice. Just to check, what would be considered a good price currently, keeping in mind the ram prices going haywire?
>That and a 5060TI 16gb will play at 1440p for a long while
Music to my ears. Just to doublecheck, the 5060TI can actually handle some degree of ray tracing, right? It's not just an "on paper it works, but in practice forget about it" kind of thing? I haven't really kept up with hardware the last couple of years, so I don't want to get into something like my current card which technically can do raytracing as well, but good luck getting any kind of good performance.
Also, any known dud versions/brands of the 5060TI 16GB that I should avoid?

>That's a good thing right? Might be a bit annoying if the timer hits when I'm doing something but for the longevity of the panel I imagine it is preferable.
It's a useless and bad implementation for various reasons but might be irrelevant at this point considering it has been raised
The correct behavior is just doing it when the panel is off not a mandatory thing ever
The only time where this is preferable if you NEVER shut off the monitor and it's running like a store demo non stop

>I'm looking at a video review for the Samsung and yeah it looks like the matte coating comes with its own problems
Not matte looks better but it you prefer matte for reasons ok, it might reduce eye strain also

The only major difference between them is led has blooming where you will see slight halos around lighter objects in front of a darker background. Also LED can get a bit brighter but you are sacrificing darkness clarity. I suggest going to a store and looking at both kinds if you can. Both are good improvements over IPS though so you can't really go wrong with whatever you choose.

As far as I can tell, the difference is tRFCmin of 295ns vs 410ns. No clue what this means though.
The RGB one is called CL30, because they achieved better timings by tweaking it, I think. Is it just due to the bigger heatsink, then? Because the standard factory timings seem to be similar.

I think I just go for the cheaper one. $50 cheaper and low profile, which I think I may need under the noctua monstrosity.

this way you only ever keep the wallpaper on oled without issues like games launching in the wrong monitor if you tried keeping oled as the secondary
