A month ago my friend asked me if he should buy a costco prebuilt pc for 2k that had 64gb of ram and decent specs. I told him he should wait because new tech was coming soon. Now the rampocalypse came and I feel bad, he might have missed his only chance to upgrade for years. Sorry bro.

guys i still have my asrock x870e taichi, which i just updated to uefi 3.50, and with that i tried to use gen5 mode with the redriver for my rtx 5090, and it still doesnt work. gets stuck at 07.so now i finally decided to also update the firmware with that tool that came out in may that people originally thought was just for the 5060, but ended up being for all 5000 cards - everything still works, but it didnt change the issue at all unfortunately.is asrock ever gonna fix this? i guess it doesnt really matter because windows can do it itself after it boots, but it does mean that after i update the bios, i have to unplug my gpu just to turn off the gen5 redriver and set x16 to gen4 before plugging it back in and actually trying to get my computer to boot

Ordered a bunch of parts on sale and stupidly realised by SSD is Gen 5 and my graphics card is PCie 5.0 but my board is 4.0. is it worth sending it back, getting a board with 5.0 on sale now?
>>107326461Gen 5 is backwards compatible you're fine.
>>107326391I'm not too versed on current US prices. But the processor is kinda weak and the GPU is on the lower end from what I'd expect for nearly two grand.
>>107326461It won't really make a difference, it'll just run at gen 4, which is already more than either need.Unless it's like a 5090 or something.Get a board down the line. Prices of SSDs is kinda volitile right now and returning stuff and being out of one for a week is kinda risky. You can get a new MOBO in the new year if you're really wanting to not limit yourself to gen 4 speeds. It won't be particularly expensive, and you can sell your current board used for a small loss.

>>107326452To unilaterally blame external factors is braindead, actually braindead. There is clear evidence that consumer activity is the sole arbiter of pricing in certain hobbies. Is Pokémon card scalping because of a cardboard shortage? Is some dumbass mug increasing in price because of a shortage of stainless?I'm not personally saying that external factors aren't in play but to put the blame solely on them is dumb.Only in PCs to people seem to rabidly defend consumers and manufacturers with any and all price increases being external factors.
>>107326391https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/y33g8QSeems fine in price, i had to take a few liberties, their ram is listed as "up to 6000 speed" but couldnt find any lexar ares available on pcpp, im assuming it will end up being 5600/36 or something like that, if it was 6000 it would say so not "up to"Case has a different name in pcpp but was the only one with a price and looks similar enoughIt seems fine in price, i would rather it had a different psu and add a real cooler instead of the ryzen stock but... it is what it is.

I currently have a 970 evo 1tb. Been thinking about getting a 2tb drive while i can. Is the sn5000 2tb tlc drive good enough or is something like a sn850x/990 pro really worth the $100 nzd premium. For reference the sn5000 is about $110 usd if converted.

Guys I need some help. I installed win10 Pro on my second ssd drive to dual boot it with my win7. Win7 works no problem (other than I had to activate it after the whole ordeal...) but with win10 I can't make my TP-Link tl-wm722 wi-fi adapter to work. I have other PC, also win10 (single OS) with the same wi-fi adapter but I don't remember how I installed it (if I recall I just plugged it in and windows just automatically recognized it). So to be precise, adapter works just fine on win7, win10 gives that sound when you plug something into the USB but nothing pops up (USB drive work nomally), in the device menager it seems that there is no adapter. Drivers don't seem to find the adapter so my best guess is that windows doesn't recognise the adapter from the USB port. What should I do? I've tried some motherboard drivers (asus H110-K) but it's just utility stuff. I would really appreciate some help here.

LATEST NOVA LAKE BIG CACHE RUMORS:https://videocardz.com/newz/only-core-ultra-400k-nova-lake-s-cpus-rumored-to-feature-144mb-of-bllc-big-cache>The successor to Arrow Lake, codenamed Nova Lake-S, was long rumored to feature bLLC. Some rumors even claimed that it would have over 140 MB of cache, and this has now been confirmed by Jaykihn, who specified that this cache has 144 MB. I hope Intel isn't dumb enough to only put it on their flagship SKUs and offer it on their 8-Pcore and lower cheaper models. I'm still disappointed that they are staying with TSMC as I don't think there will be a lot of competition with Zen 6 while sharing the same node.

What I am seeing isn't that. It's not two frames ripped in half in the middle or wherever. It's an object in motion suddenly stopping for a millisecond and then going again. Like a hitch or a stutter. After turning off vsync and setting fps in nvidia to 300 (my tv fps is still set at 60 but can go up to 144) I went into the game mode in 4k optimized this time and turned on the gravity and watched things floating around and they weren't hitching anymore. But they were doing it in 1080p extreme. So I guess the problem is some sort of resolution tv issue hopefully. I'll keep digging around my tv settings and seeing if anything changes.

Gaming I do varies, but I enjoy shooters and action games, so I need something that can handle the heavy load while having plenty of storage. Could potentially look for a cheaper brand. Do you really need 96gb? Is the editing stuff you do requiring more than 64? Could get a good western digital NVME and shave off a few bucks. From what I've heard founders edition gpu's aren't the best, do you want it for a collectors item? Maybe look for a different version. Tower is overkill and not even good. Get a meshify 3 XL, Fractal North XL or an asus pro art.PSU is massive overkill, even a 5090 doesn't need 2k. >>107330132Also about the motherboard, the only reason I could think of to choose that one in particular is the combination of x870e / usbc 40G, postcode, dual ethernet, and on-board power and reset buttons. But the MSI MPG X870E CARBON WIFI does all that too and it's only $330.

>>107330366>65% of 4090's cuda cores>256bit busIts literally a midrange card marketed as highend and sold at titan pricing. But that doesn't mean it's a highend card, just that it's a ripoff
>>107330427To most people the bus width and core count don't matter, just the relative performance. 4080 came out like 3 years ago and could run everything back then at 4K. That's good enough to be considered high end. A midrange card is for 1080p144Hz esports gaming or 1440p60 "AAA 3rd person action adventure Sonyslop" gaming with DLSS, think 5060 Ti.>b-but 4K was standard 10 years ago we should be doing it on midrange cards now!Yeah but we aren't. We can't just make up arbitrary criteria, like doubling the pixel count every 5 years or something. Midrange is whatever most people own and can run most games reasonably well.
I just found out that I get lag when moving a mouse between monitors on my 9950X3D, but only when scaling is enabled on one monitorLike lol, lmao. I'm starting to feel I got meme'd on this AMD CPU.

>>107330520Not having to deal with Intel's new insanely customer unfriendly CPU naming scheme is a good reason. The i5 110 is not a brand new 2025 midrange CPU, it's a rebranded 10400F. Then you get to the core 5, core 7, core ULTRA 7, etc. and it gets completely unreasonable.Trust me I wanted to stick with Intel (NTA if it wasn't clear) but I genuinely can't tell you what tier of CPU the 265k is. Is it an i5? An i7? Core 5/7? Core ULTRA 5/7?I know people who still think 14th gen is the latest Intel CPU lineup because they can't comprehend the concept of the Core Ultra 7 branding.

>>107330545>The xx102 GPU die is always nvidia's top consumer dieThat is the point of the absurd comparison. What is defined as the top consumer die is entirely arbitrary. If they build a PC-sized GPU as their "top" product and then a normal sized one as their "2nd best", then it is the former that is vastly overbuilt for a given process node and it doesn't have any influence whatsoever on what is the midrange of a generation. The 5090 suffers from this precise overbuilding problem.
>>107330548Look I'm not going to defend Intels marking shit, but you're paying more for a much WORSE CPU. Unless you got X3D for the v-cache, you should get the intel simply because it's a much faster chip for everything you'll do.
Nobody cared about RAM speed and timings before DDR5 and late DDR4. Back in the day? Your CPU said it supports DDR3-1600? You bought 2 or 4 identical DDR3-1600 sticks. Your CPU said it supports DDR4-2666? You bought 2 or 4 identical DDR4-2666 sticks.Your modern CPU says it supports DDR5-5200? Nope you buy DDR5-6000 CL30 for a bajillion dollars because AMD are faggots and can't make their CPU run properly if not synchronized with the RAM clocks.

>>107330580Low latency ram existed as far back as ddr2 or ddr3 afaikIt was just much more niche and not talked about outside of OC circles
>>107330576I already told you I'm NTA (not that anon). I have a Ryzen 5 9600 bought for 215 euro, and the 265k here costs 320 euro. The Ryzen comes with the benefit of one more CPU generation on this socket, allowing me to upgrade to an 11800X3D if I want to in 2-3 years, and be set until AM6's mid-generation X3D's come around.>>107330593>gen 2makes sense except for cases like the 110 which is a 5 year old processor>65/100 perfbut the xx6xx tier were for i5's, and this is a "core ultra 7">K unlockedyeah like alwaysit's not as obvious as you think
>>10733059365 rounds off to 70 so it's an i7 equivalent
ok but what makes some of them be ULTRACORES as opposed to regular CORES
>>107330571>I didn't know the RAM is garbage, that's my mistake. I'm not sure how to evaluate such. Needs higher mhz and lower CAS latency. The 6000/30 in your new list is exactly what you should be looking for. Higher mhz than that can be difficult to get working, and lower CAS latency is usually far more expensive.I still think you could drop your motherboard down a tier. Like what exactly is it that you need from it that you want to spend so much?>>107330596It helps that the competition in this case is 2 generations old and overpriced. But yea Intel is still worth considering.
>>107330608It being an Ultra Seven right now is a long overdue correction, so while it may be different it is better for the 265 to be in this category, literally rounds up to that number. It is not even a relevant measure of performance, i3 i5 i7 and i9s were just the marketing segment for products, arbitrary names just like Ultra 5, 7 and 9. Those Ultra 225s and 235s should be "Ultra 3s" really.
I snagged an RX 9070 Pulse for $430 with some reward shenanigans. Am I fine staying on Win10 IoT LTSC (21H2) or do I need to update? I wonder how badly my 9700k will bottleneck.
>>107330571>https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XrnXTMBe aware that x3d cpus can leverage worse ram better than the non x3ds. 6000 is a good frequency to shop for but if cl30 is too expensive right now (It is) cl 36 will be more than adequate. Frequency matters more than the cl when ram prices are fucked.

I am going to build my new PC tomorrow and realizing I have no idea what to play on it. I needed a new PC as mine was 15 years old and unable to run alot of things, not just certain games. I have alot of backlog games that I need to finally play, and will work through those but would like to check out new stuff too.Ive been so checked out on new games, where is a good place to learn about upcoming/recently released games? does /pcbg/ have any suggestions for me to check out with my new rig? >>107330755>would this be a better motherboard? It's cheaper at least. Although speaking of cheaper, it's showing on pcpp as $215 but when I click the amazon link it's showing $299. $215 is sort of reasonable but $299 is way too much. Also I see you are getting 2 gen5 m2 ssds but that board only has 1 pcie5 m2 slot. I'd recommend the MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi ($250), it has 2 pcie5 slots and is better in every other way too.
thoughts on my friends build? not super sure about the cooler but just picked one for a rough budget idea. Maybe thinking faster/better RAM? (he is in japan and apparently can get it for a reasonable price)
>>107331219B850 is a better buy right now but I see the asus board is part of a bundle so it's okay. Better ram is worth it within reason, cl28/cl30 6000 is optimal, cl32 6400 is good as well if willing to downclock if it doesn't work ootb. This assumes that better ram is affordable otherwise cl36 6000 is honestly fine for a 7800x3d, the v-cache leverages worse binned ram. SSD could be better but I don't know the pricing over there in Japan, the evo could be a good deal.

>>107331481It's not that bad. I won't be playing any shooters or competitive games with it.

>>107331531d4 ran very poorly for me on 16gb, much better on 32. maybe they've optimized it since
>>107331531DDR5 with expo/xmp set has really loose timings from the factory. Tightening the timings alone is easy and gives improvements to bandwidth and latency. You'll see a rather significant increase in average fps and more importantly 1% lows in cpu bound games ie hogwarts legacy, Cities: Skylines, Total War. If you buy overclocking ram ie cl30 6000 hynix a or m die you should be tweaking it, it's free performance.
>>1073312191000w is overkill. Pcpartpicker estimates 561w at full load - add a lil more for the RAM, as I couldn't find your kit.> https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RvwDDjOf course, you don't want 100% load. Still, 800w should be more than enough.> faster/better RAMIf it doesn't cost much more, sure why not. x3d chips care way less about RAM speed than regular Ryzens tho, and also less than Intel CPUs, so I wouldn't spend a meaningful amount extra.
Do tempered glass panels really randomly shatter on your PC or is it just a r*ddit meme?
I've a 6k/cl30 rgb kit to flip, when should I try to sell it. Now when people are panicking?
>>107331783So here's the thing about tempered glass. There's a thing called nickel sulphide inclusions. Over time (anywhere from a few minutes to a few decades) after the glass has been tempered, they can grow across a stress line inside the lite and cause the lite to suddenly explode. The only way to prevent this from happening is to heat soak glass after it's been tempered. Heat soaking glass involves putting the lite in a box at 260 C for 2 hours in order to force the inclusions to grow. If the glass doesn't break after 2 hours in the box, it's considered structurally sound in the legal sense. It still has a chance of breaking anyway, but the percentage chance is around 0.000000015% per year at that point. The companies who make computer cases are cheapskates and don't want to pay the extra $10 to put the glass panels in the box for 2 hours, so tempered glass panels can break. This is a risk for ALL tempered glass, btw. All glass is theoretically haunted.
