guys i still have my asrock x870e taichi, which i just updated to uefi 3.50, and with that i tried to use gen5 mode with the redriver for my rtx 5090, and it still doesnt work. gets stuck at 07.

so now i finally decided to also update the firmware with that tool that came out in may that people originally thought was just for the 5060, but ended up being for all 5000 cards - everything still works, but it didnt change the issue at all unfortunately.

is asrock ever gonna fix this? i guess it doesnt really matter because windows can do it itself after it boots, but it does mean that after i update the bios, i have to unplug my gpu just to turn off the gen5 redriver and set x16 to gen4 before plugging it back in and actually trying to get my computer to boot

Get a board down the line. Prices of SSDs is kinda volitile right now and returning stuff and being out of one for a week is kinda risky. You can get a new MOBO in the new year if you're really wanting to not limit yourself to gen 4 speeds. It won't be particularly expensive, and you can sell your current board used for a small loss.

Because its important, is that simple, even at 1080p you need to be wary of textures size (i'd know i play on an 8gb card) and you mentioned 1440p even if its not tomorrow. Picking an 8gb card is hamstringing yourself, they are not even a good deal, sure they are cheaper but you will pay it later on having to upgrade sooner.

I had 2 options for getting an ROG STRIX gaming monitor: The 27 inch one (the one I got) and the 32 inch one but it's curved. Both priced the same and same model of monitors. I chose the 27 inches because that's the sweet spot for QHD monitors, and the pixels are denser per inch. And I'm not ready for curved monitors. Did I make a mistake not getting the better bang for buck deal?

Guys I need some help. I installed win10 Pro on my second ssd drive to dual boot it with my win7. Win7 works no problem (other than I had to activate it after the whole ordeal...) but with win10 I can't make my TP-Link tl-wm722 wi-fi adapter to work. I have other PC, also win10 (single OS) with the same wi-fi adapter but I don't remember how I installed it (if I recall I just plugged it in and windows just automatically recognized it). So to be precise, adapter works just fine on win7, win10 gives that sound when you plug something into the USB but nothing pops up (USB drive work nomally), in the device menager it seems that there is no adapter. Drivers don't seem to find the adapter so my best guess is that windows doesn't recognise the adapter from the USB port. What should I do? I've tried some motherboard drivers (asus H110-K) but it's just utility stuff. I would really appreciate some help here.

I think there is some confusion on both ends. I guess I don't get what you guys think that will accomplish and I don't get what I'm looking for. My issues have been when I scroll in my browser it hitches and when I did the benchmark game thing I could see objects hitching as they moved up and down.

I'm not complaining about my fps I locked at 60 because I have a 4k tv and doing stuff past 60 I know is difficult. I'm not trying to chase high fps I just want it to run smoothly. Everything I read said the best way to do that is to lock your fps 1 below cap. I don't see how unlocking my fps or turning off vsync is going to make hitching go away. Isn't vsync just to prevent screen tearing which isn't what is happening to me?

Sorry I know I'm really dumb but this is frustrating and I'm trying my best please be patient. I'll change the settings and run it again but I'm not sure it's accomplishing what I want.

It's called screen tearing because you've disabled GSync/VRR.
The TV is running at 60Hz while you instructed the graphics card to a maximum 59 FPS cap.

I know what screen tearing is, I had it on my old pc that didn't have any sync technology. What I am seeing isn't that. It's not two frames ripped in half in the middle or wherever. It's an object in motion suddenly stopping for a millisecond and then going again. Like a hitch or a stutter.

After turning off vsync and setting fps in nvidia to 300 (my tv fps is still set at 60 but can go up to 144) I went into the game mode in 4k optimized this time and turned on the gravity and watched things floating around and they weren't hitching anymore. But they were doing it in 1080p extreme. So I guess the problem is some sort of resolution tv issue hopefully. I'll keep digging around my tv settings and seeing if anything changes.

3070ti ($600) to 4070ti ($800) had a $200 price increase, for about 14% increase.
3080($700) to 4080($1200) $500 increase, but had the biggest jump performance outside of 90 series, for 20% increase

For gaming, I doubt it.
For productivity, only if you need the sequential speed. Easier to benefit from sequential read than write, as write needs you to read from a sufficiently fast source to avoid bottlenecks. Like RAM, or another Gen5 drive.
Gen4 can do around 7GB/s already tho, so you'd have to be working with hueg files to really benefit from Gen5. Like larger local LLMs, which can reach hundreds of GB in size.

That is the point of the absurd comparison. What is defined as the top consumer die is entirely arbitrary. If they build a PC-sized GPU as their "top" product and then a normal sized one as their "2nd best", then it is the former that is vastly overbuilt for a given process node and it doesn't have any influence whatsoever on what is the midrange of a generation. The 5090 suffers from this precise overbuilding problem.

I already told you I'm NTA (not that anon). I have a Ryzen 5 9600 bought for 215 euro, and the 265k here costs 320 euro. The Ryzen comes with the benefit of one more CPU generation on this socket, allowing me to upgrade to an 11800X3D if I want to in 2-3 years, and be set until AM6's mid-generation X3D's come around.

Needs higher mhz and lower CAS latency. The 6000/30 in your new list is exactly what you should be looking for. Higher mhz than that can be difficult to get working, and lower CAS latency is usually far more expensive.

I still think you could drop your motherboard down a tier. Like what exactly is it that you need from it that you want to spend so much?

Be aware that x3d cpus can leverage worse ram better than the non x3ds. 6000 is a good frequency to shop for but if cl30 is too expensive right now (It is) cl 36 will be more than adequate. Frequency matters more than the cl when ram prices are fucked.
