It's a good GPU. I'd built a budget PC for a friend Summer of '24 with a 5600x and my old GTX 1080 and it was solid. This fall, I upgraded them to a 9060 XT 16gb. Absolutely crushed 1440p. But, it hitched and stuttered on their one, old, weird game. I can't even remember what it was... some Warhammer variant? I don't know. So, I took the card back and reinstalled my old 1080.

I slapped together a PC with a mobo, ram, and PSU I had laying around with a new case, i5, cooling, and the 9060. Runs amazing. It's the best value for 1440p gaming and will even do 4K if you don't go nuts on settings.
>>
if i can get 9070XT for £460 and have 7900XT should i upgrade? obvs i can sell the 7900XT

a 5060ti 16gb, 3090 or 5090 and a new psu

I love my 5070, that I upgraded to from a 1660 Super, so much bwos. In every game it's a monumental difference.

How much of a difference does having 6000 cl36 ram actually make?

So I got these (RAM for 200€ back in May)... should I get a 5070Ti for 820€ or a 5090 for 2400€? I will be gaming and AI slopping.
>>
>>107346687
As opposed to.... 5600 CL36? 6000 CL30?
In both cases... maybe going from 135fps to 141fps?
>>
>>107346687
Worst 4800 CL40 RAM compared to best 6000 CL28 RAM is a 0-20% FPS difference in most games. Realistically within margin of error based on what's happened on-screen in-game.
>>
>>107346695
Split the difference and get a 5080. Real world need for a 5090 is almost non-existent.
>>
>>107346652
I'm NOT going to panic buy an SSD right before black Friday and cyber Monday... just how much ram does an SSD even contain for the prices to gouge?
>>
>>107346710
5080 only has 16GB VRAM... 32 would be nice for AI slopping...
>>
>>107346695
5090's power draw puts a lot of strain on the connector that you may want to consider getting a $200 thermalgrizzly wireview pro 2 to make sure it doesnt burn itself

>>

>>
>>107346716
2400€ just so you can make AI sloppa videos is retarded. Rent a 4090 for 50 cents an hour whenever you need to slop video, use the 5070 Ti for image gen locally and gayming.
>>
>>107346687
MSI PRO Z790-P mothercard. Should I go for Kingston KC3000 4 tb or Crucial T705 4TB? It's the same price right now
>>
>>107346738
is it actually worth it though? it's not a lot more performance really
>>
Opinions welcome. Rampocalypse is here for the duration. Been sitting on a PC ready to go:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4M3mwY

Should I keep the 2023 5600 DDR5 with the LGBT lighting or use brand new 6000 non-LGBT ram? New ram was $201 and is now $396. Selling price would have to go up by at least the $201 plus a little extra.

Or, sit on the 6000 ram for a future build?
>>
>>107346559
I was going to upgrade mine to a 9070XT, now the 9060XT 16GB is out and only £320, also the 9070XT is now only 540

Convince me either way whether the difference is worth it.
>>
>>107346780
what do you actually own there? everything?
>>
>>107346797
You'll lose driver support in 2 years either way, it doesn't matter which one you get.
>>
>>107346776
9070xt has fsr4 which provides a lot of performance at higher image quality
>>
>>107346752
That does sound like a decent idea.
I've genned thousands of images with a 1660S. Takes about 2-3 minutes on a 6GB card. So 5070Ti should be definitely enough for it.
But Grok has introduced me to video slopping and that would be nice to do locally and uncensored. How does renting a card work?
>>
https://x.com/eliebakouch/status/1994004632667083080
this is our only chance for prices to come back down, another deepseek moment
>>
>>107346560
Maybe I should order a 5090 and return it with my 3070ti in the box.
>>
>>107346752
I can sloppa for hours. 5 hours a day would be 2.5 bucks. 17.5 a week. 70 a month. 840€ a year. Doesn't seem like such a good deal anymore.
>>
>>107346801
It's a finished PC. Pic here: >>107346624

I have a new kit of DDR5 32gb 6000
>>
>>107346780
>purchased
If you purchased the RAM already, stick with that. 5600->6000 isnt close to being worth 200 dollars (if I understand you correctly)
>>
>>107346844
ah okay, that makes sense. sell/return the 6000 kit. the performance increase isn't worth 201
>>
>>107346844
keep the 6000 ram kit and sell the 5600 ram for more than what you paid for the 6000 ram kit
>>
>>107346851
I have both sets of ram. Just wondering if swapping in the newer, faster ram would be better for selling the PC vs keeping the older schtuff in it.
>>
>>107346812
>>107346841
I also used to sloppa on a 1660S and upgraded to a 5070 (non-Ti) and it's been great. A 5070 Ti would be even greater. 5090 would be insane, so if you can genuinely afford it, just go for it. Burning cables are scary though.
>>
>>107346797

Well I took a video of me opening the box because I have seen some other people posting about this happening to them on the internet.

But the amazon support was pretty awesome. Didn't ask for the video proof or anything just told me to send it back for refund. And they will also price match the 990 Pro order since I bought it when it was on a deal.

NVIDIA TELLS AIBs FUCK OFF GO BUY YOUR OWN RAM
And it looks like smaller AIBs can't even get a seat at the goddamn table

Oh shit, you can kiss goodbye to palit, gainward and all those other smaller AIB cards, they don't even have the relationships with DDR manufacturers they need to buy the ram in the first place

THE LONGER YOU WAIT THE MORE EXPENSIVE IT GETS

IF YOU NEED THAT 16GB 5060TI YOU ARE RUNNING OUT OF DAYS TO BUY IT

BUY WHAT YOU NEED NOW

DO IT NOW NOW

NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW
>>
>>107346867
Ah, I see. Unlikely to make even a small a difference unless the buyer wants that RAM specifically.
You'd probably get more selling the 6000 sticks seperately and the 5600 sticks in the build, so since you would keep the unsold sticks it makes sense to keep the 6000s assuming you have some kind of use for them and not will have them kicking around when new generations of CPUs/RAM come around.
>>
I can't tell if this is a fomo bot campaign or not
>>
>>107346927
That's good Amazon support usually does take care of shit. This shit's gonna hit ram like crazy I know people are already scamming that shit too.
>>
If you don't need to buy don't
but make no mistake everything will be completely unaffordable in 2026

the crude reality is that large l3 cache stacks made ram speed obsolete for gaming, and I say this as a huge nerd that overclocks my ram and watches buildzoid, it's not worth the time, money and worry

Yep, but I have heard a similar thing happened for someone who bought from the US Amazon and they didn't refund him. He didn't video tape himself opening the package also. But might be more scammers in the US store, I don't know.

Anyway I guess it's always best to take video of unpacking expensive stuff from the internet.

I use my 9800x3d for Lightroom Classic and it's fine. MS Office only requires a potato. You'll be fine. Just a note, if you're on Adobe software, they leverage the GPU to accelerate operations- so things like AI denoise functions will go faster with a better GPU.

boy was this not worth the hassle or the money, or the noise downgrade from a single loop d5 setup
cooling specs:
>2x ddc 4.2 from EK (the very last stock)
>koolance rp 401x2 single slot drive bay dual reservoir pump combo
>alphacool reference 3080 block, with active backplate on a manli 3080ti
>EK quantum velocity block on a 5700x3d
>alphacool 1080mm radiator in gpu loop
>XSPC TX240 240mm ultrathin crossflow radiator in cpu loop
thinking about adding a 140mm radiator into the cpu loop next to the io shield, cuz im not satisfied with the cpu temps
running both pumps at 1200rpm still produces a noticeable amount of noise even though it only nets me like 0.4L/h
does anyone know of a generic d5 adapter for ddc slots i could 3d print or throw money at? this just sucks and i fucking hate myself for ever thinking ddc would be fine for a silent setup

Buildzoid has videos explaining the timings and some overclocking examples

But the gist of it is you find the fastest freq your memory can run at in 1:1 mode on am5. Ddr5 6000 1:1 would be 3000 mclk = 3000 uclk, mclk and uclk being 1:1. From there you tighten timings and voltages.

all you really need
DDR5 overclocking on AMD is extremely simple because there's only 2-3 relevant die types and all mid-to-high tier AM5 boards can do 6600+ MHz
2:1 mode is not happening for you unless you made your purchases with that in mind so you don't need to worry about it

A few threads ago I asked about PSU failure. Well, I checked the voltage with HWinfo and everything seemed fine. The PC did multiple 10 hour sessions since then. But today when I pressed power it didn't boot or post, just lights and no display. After I turned it off and flipped the PSU switch on and off it booted just fine. It has to be the PSU right? Seems like it sometimes fails the power good test but works perfectly fine afterwards.

Of course the first thing to do is enable XMP/Expo in bios, but you want to monitor your temps and frequencies to make sure the system is running at the rated specs and not overheating, either.

Running a benchmark in a loop for 30 minutes or so, or running a dedicated stress test will ensure everything's good.

I'm going to try and keep my AM4 system a while longer, considering that it's still performing fine for what I do with it, and the current prices of pretty much everything. So I'm going to start keeping an eye on local secondhand listing for the two weakest bits
CPU, 3600 currently: Try and snag a 5600, 5700, or 5700X3D. Now, just glancing at the prices, the 5700X3D probably isn't going to happen. Is the jump between the 5600 and 5700 worth the extra cost? Seems like about a 50% difference between the two here. Also, is the 3600 to 5600 a noticable improvement
RAM, 2x8gb 3200CL16 currently: I'd like to get this to 32gb. From a glance it's probably going to be cheaper and easier to get 2 additional 8gb sticks. But is having 4 sticks worse than having 2 of 16gb? I've never used 4 sticks before, since the general advice seems to be to go for 2 for ease of use. But with the RAM situation being what it is I might consider it anyway.

there are numerous vesa mount monitor arms, just look for one you like. they are cheap, like $15 for the last one I got. that particular style is pretty solid, but I personally tightened alot of the screws. they only tighten so far to still allow tilt/rotation, but they are solid enough. the base clamp part of it I was very skeptical about, but works fine and includes a plate & screws to hard mount it into the desk if you want instead. as far as the arms go, the ones that are more articulating that are meant to move the monitor around like you might see at doctors offices, workstations, etc ive heard of those having issues. Id personally stick to a fixed type design to avoid any troubles with that, unless you plan on moving the monitors around through out the day youd likely wanna do some research and buy a nice more expensive one.

You could bolt it into the tabletop, I wouldnt trust wood screws and only use bolts with a nut on the bottom. alternatively, if the backing part of the desk is thin/user added during assembly you could cut out a portion of it to allow room for the clamp or forgo the backing stuff altogether

I have 2 NVMes and my current B550 motherboard only supports installing 2 GPUs if one of the M2 slots is unused.

side by side in store lights a matte oled looks like a cheap lcd due to the diffused haze across the screen
why? because it raises black level more uniformly, reduces contrast, color everything
a glossy will show more sharp reflections sure but the image you will see it pop way more
there is 0 chance you would prefer matte and glossy side by side
put it this way a glossy 1440p looks better than a matte 4k in store lights
I feel like matte reduces eye strain on qdoled though but not sure if it has something to do with manufacturers choices of glossy coating.... have not tested them enough

considering there are level of matte too some are worse than others

This is my current build with an AM4 Ryzen.
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/bulbasaur001/saved/TkDkgs
I believe I am CPU bottlenecked while playing Battlefield 6, because even if I reduce my graphics settings, the FPS is still stuck around 4K@120Hz and won't go higher.
My goal is to be able to play at 4K closer to the Monitor refresh rate.
Problem is that it would take upgrading to AM5 thus replacing motherboard, CPU and RAM altogether.

Budget for the upgrade £500 UK, I could spend more if it is warranted

How should I upgrade my build? Are X3D Ryzens better suited for gaming? I like to keep a quiet build so I am afraid of the 120 W TDP CPUs.
Is there a chance an AM4 CPU will improve my performance from the Ryzen 5 5600X?

1000w is perfectly fine for 5090.
>>
>>107349671
>5090
Well, this is a 5080 which is 360W card, compared to the 5090's 575Ws, so yeah. About 200W less.

>Your system is GPU bottlenecked at 4K resolution for starters.
No it isn't, these are fake and designed to sell expensive products
I have been playing at 4K@120Hz with an 4070 just fine despite what this fake graph shows, with Ultra textures, high lighting, medium mesh (high CPU demand) and low shadows
The CPU bottleneck is obvious from the Mesh and Animation settings were anything above Low significantly impacts FPS and visual quality. Even the settings menu tells you these are CPU bound.

Was it listed new or open box?
>>
>>107349774
Also huge differrnece in performance depending on the number of players, indicating CPU bottleneck. In a small server I can raise graphics easily. In a large server even minimum graphics settings have issues. Again indicating this bottleneck is not related to GPU

It was listed new, it took one or two seconds for me to recover from the shock when I opened it. I mean I have heard it happens to other people but this is the first time it has happened to me.

what does this have to do with 1000w
the ecuckontech is complaining it's not a pcie5 certified power supply thingy shit atx 3.1 shit

it was a 1000watt psu, do the math genius. Its an anecdotal reference, common sense alone says you're stupid for claiming its good enough.

I will need to replace my 3090.

I don't want to spend too much money on components and I was pretty happy with my setup until it started to fail.

So just looking on some advice. It's hard to find brand new 3090 and when I found some they were being sold for 4k euros which is nonsense.

I'm kinda hesitant to buy used as I'm worried it won't last long and I won't have any warranty.

But then I had brand new MSI 3090 and it started to fail after almost 2 years.

Should I wait for 5080 Super? Or just get a used 3090?
>>
>>107351232
>wait for 5080 Super
This will be extremely expensive to purchase next year.
There are rumors that NVIDIA is telling their GeForce board partners to secure GDDR7 supplies on their own.
NVIDIA used to order these on behalf of their board partners to get more favorable supply contracts.
5080 Super, if it even releases, is going to be the most expensive -80 tier GPU in history.

Last chance to get a 5090 desu
>>

Getting 5090 would mean getting new MOBO, new RAM and all other shit I can't afford now and don't even need.

Was really happy with my 3090, so maybe I'll just grab a used one.

I'm on AM4 socket MOBO.

Can somebody explain to me why jews from Nvidia didn't release 24GB VRAM card in 5xxx series?

Both AMD and NVIDIA want to design the smallest possible PCIe GPUs.
It means selling GPUs with fewer memory buses (these take up die area).
Fewer memory buses, fewer lanes for VRAM chips, unless they use GDDR7 chips with denser capacity (24Gbit/3GB).

RTX 50 Super cards were rumored to use those 3GB GDDR7 chips for expanded VRAM capacity, but the memory super cycle could change this plan.

AMD is rumored to be using GPUs with even fewer memory bus widths for the next-gen PCIe GPUs.
