This is why RAM prices have tripled. I hope you are happy.

So, trying to understand SSDs:- SSDs are by nature unstable and rely on constant error correction, so while QLC is even worse than TLC in this, practically it just kinda doesn't matter? Pray that your SSD controller does a good job with this, and cold storage is incorrect usecase. Despite the lower endurance, QLC is still good for 10-20 years.- Otherwise the only downside of QLC is slower write speed which doesn't matter for most usecases due to 100GB+ SLC caches.- Game load times on any NVME is about half of SATA ssd (HUB test), regardless of speed- Sequential speed is pretty much irrelevant for gaming, random reads and latency are much more important (claim), however I can't find any reliable benchmarks about game performance, asset loading, traversal stutter etc. which obviously depends on storage. HDDs make some games almost unplayable, so I'd imagine that SSD performance matters. What's the best benchmark for this or should you even bother and just buy the cheapest one? And Samsung apparently gaming some benchmarks: https://old.reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/172cxyi/does_anyone_know_more_about_the_pcmark_10_full/https://www.tomshardware.com/features/ssd-benchmarks-hierarchySo basically just buy the cheapest non-bottom of the barrel one and hope it doesn't have any fatal flaws? Not sure if it's worth paying for a brand.

>>107353748I'm almost in your boat but I've started enjoying playing old games and pumping resolution for visual fidelity while targeting 120 fps, which still takes some decent hardware. No need for a 5090 or anything but it's not free to do this either. But for the most part almost anything good is 10+ years old, low spec indie graphics, or from a SNES, N64, Gamecube or PS1/2 and I'm finding it harder and harder to justify it all. I kind of wish everything I wanted to play ran on a refurbished Dell Optiplex.
I have used the same pc since 2015. Its a ddr3 motherboard with 8gbs of ram. M task manager says I have A6-7310 with Radeon R4 Graphics. This has shaped what games I could play. Most indie games

This whole ram thing feels like some kind of elaborate pump and dump. Someone bought the entire industry and is now scalping it for profit. If someone bought all the ram some big cpu AI model, then wouldn't that make it notoriously expensive and unprofitable to run assuming market price? Or did they somehow get away with not paying the market price? Wouldn't it be more profitable for the industry sell to everyone at only a slightly elevated price? Or is this just a big cartel between the chip manufacturers? Make it make sense.

>>107353874>So basically just buy the cheapest non-bottom of the barrel one and hope it doesn't have any fatal flaws?Yes.Without trying to dismiss you too much, don't overthink it. You will realistically not be able to notice any difference between SSDs in gaming contexts. Any SSD, even a shit one, is better performance wise than any HDD. Everything you mentioned about traversal stutter/asset loading/etc. is irrelevant, SSDs are still too slow to avoid this problem and you address it by having data loaded from the SSD in RAM or VRAM way before the player ends up in the new location. Devs just suck ass and fail at this. SSDs help --minimize-- this problem compared to an HDD, but they do not remove it, they just lower the worst possible case time if it happens. Also those problems can be caused by other non-storage related issues (shader compilation, for instance).

The cpu is 12th gen, sparing you from the later gen's problems, 4070 ti super makes the bulk of the value here, PSU and RAM are way more than enough but welcome here. The only thing I don't know is the specific mobo when you say b760 asus: you can have the Prime which doesn't include Wifi and has a VGA port(!) on it or you have the TUF/Strix mobo that has Wifi and are pretty much the same except Strix has RGB lighting on it and can use 6GHz wifi.Either way, if you really need it and you can ignore rgb on the build, go get it.
>>107354246It's a niche product, most people on DDR4 don't have a CPU with a good enough IMC to run such a kit at full speeds and 100% stability, and those who do (Threadripper users) probably have enough memory already.

We'll know in a month or 2, but I'd expect ddr4 pricing to come back down to reality in 2-3 months. There's probably still some demand though. At least I looked around for a 64gb kit of b-die to replace my 32gb b-die kit but decided the prices were already too ridiculous for my taste. Thought about trying to sell a 16gb b-die kit which I replaced with the 32gb but decided to hold on to see what happens next year because I wouldn't mind holding onto it.

I have spent the last week trying to successfully undervolt my gpu and im finally pretty happy. Its a 3060TI and those results are from running superposition on 2k custom since i play at 2k.I dont really give a shit about the slight increase of performance but the card went from 90º (and obv thermal throttling) to 65ºLotta accounts on the internet saying that my card should be fine at 1900mhz@.0,900mv but it was crashing with that (i guess my chip is shitty or old or the thermal paste is going to shit or all three). Ended up lowering the clock just a notch to 1890mhz and the voltage up a notch to 0.925mv and i have played about an hour from the same game that was crashing before and it rean great and the gpu kept cold.Might end up trying to tweak those numbers a bit but right now im chuffed as fuck. Thanks for reading my blog anon

$190 for a 5700X3D still worth it this winter? I nearly picked one up at Microcenter for $180 last Christmas. I'm in Europe now. Still got my 3700X which has seen some deg. Not sure whether to go for it or a 5900XT since I'm not moving to AM5 any time soon even after a year. Was thinking of pairing a 5070 Ti with it.

My old PC got damaged in a flood last week, so I have to build while RAM prices are doing whatever they are doing :)Is anyone able to give my build a once-over for any obvious mistakes? Haven't built a PC is like 10 years. It would be appreciated. Ideally I'd like to shave a few hundred off the price here, budget is $1500-2000 Canadian. Only real goal is to play games for the next 10 years. I like to run at 240Hz but don't care about 4k if that makes a difference. Is my CPU too much power compared to my GPU?https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Jj77fd
>>107358307I figured it out I didn't screw it, it's okay to have moving parts!!!
>>1073587651. Don't waste money on a Noctua cooler. Get a fat cooler (Deepcool AK500) or dual-tower (Thermalright Royal Knight 120). 2. Don't buy ASRock motherboards. They've been known to kill Zen 5 CPUs. Spend your saving from above on a Gigabyte/MSI board instead.3. Your 7800X3D will last you another 2-3 GPU upgrades.
>>107358765>>107359167Oh, and if you want to save a bit of money, look for 7600X3D or 7500X3D. Same 3D V-cache benefit of your original choice, 2 fewer cores.
>>107359167Thank you kinda anon. PCPartPicker is warning me with any mobo that I should BIOS update to get support for my CPU. Do you know if there are budget motherboards that do not require a BIOS update? Otherwise it's looking like the MSI PRO B650M-P will be my choice. Seems like a pretty ordinary mobo and it's not asrock so no housefires hopefully.
>>107359364kind anon** lmfao
>>107359364Almost all B650 motherboards (including that MSI PRO B650M-P) have a feature called "Flash BIOS" where you can update BIOS even without a CPU installed. All you need is a spare USB key formatted in FAT32 (recommended under 8GB)
