They couldn't come up with actual insults and the employed dude is a severe autist that doesn't know how to tell someone off? He should be getting shat on at work just as much, too.

I was testing some fiber runs today and came across something I haven't seen. Using my test kit, I got a good, low loss signal for one strand of fiber but absolutely no connectivity on the other one in the pair. Reversing the direction of the test (IE, swaping my source and tester), I got the same result, the same strand of fiber tested good but the other strand had no connectivity. The two switches that were connected, however, were functioning fine through the fiber, communicating between each other.

I couldn't check the config on the switches to determine if this was how things were supposed to be and the switches were configured like this on purpose or if it was some break in the cable people were making the best of. Can fiber transmit on a single strand like that, or is my testing methods just bad?
>>
>>107487647
Second panel dude kinda hot
>>
>>107487708
tester itself could be bad , tester could be too sensitive and says the fiber "fails" but just has little enough attenuation to still work, there are SFPs specifically for single fiber strands so probably there's ones that have the two ports but can be set to transmit over one (or switches like you say can be told "just treat your dual port sfp like a single port one")

Negotiation is about leverage; "if you don't give me what I want, something that you don't like is going to happen." Namely, you leaving the company to go get paid more money. "I have an offer from XYZ. Are you willing to match it? If not, consider this my two-weeks notice." That's how you get a raise. It's not about convincing your boss that you "deserve" one.

Most likely that link was shutdown by the switch and they were communicating via a different one.

Saw enough shit for one day. Linksys took a .50 round and a couple of mechanical keyboards were destroyed in an ambush. The realization that I`m not invincible is slowly kicking in. But with a 9 volt, some detcord, and a couple of magnets attached to the steel mousepad I have in my plate carrier, I believe I will be able to create a sort of electromagnetic deflection field so my enemy`s fire will just curve around me. I`ve ran the raw data past the boys in yospos and so far we still have a green light. Hell, I`ve used wired mice as grappling hooks when tossed into the right nooks. Even if I’m caught I figure the boys in black will give me a job in some blacked out line of work and I will get my pension.

How the fuck do I tell him in simple terms that he is vastly understimating the project and overstimating our capabilities?
How the fuck would that even work?
Writing up all the business logic behind the schema, the relationships, examples and trying to get the LLM to execute them? Really lost here and I am pretty sure it aint happening but I am wondering how would that even work.

I am going to be honest with you bro but I dont know SHIT about AI other than writing more chapters of my cancelled futa loli incest erotica and sometimes reading the ai results from Google that are blatant lies most of the time.
My crazy average joe idea is
> Feed computer the schema, feed it very detailed descriptions of the schema, feed it overtly detailed business logic and then try to make it run queries based on text prompts and d ump them into an xlsx file.
Right now he just throws me an email and I try to write up whatever retarded fucking bullshit he came up with
>Work in company that manufactures, sells and ships its own stuff (textiles and furniture and minor metalworks)
>Simple codemonkey
>All the ERP have been built and rebuilt inhouse over 35 years.
>He comes up with random bullshit like "Get me the list of clients whose shipping addresses are around these random coordinates in circles with increasing 500 meters in radius and get me their purchasing history these past 5 years to see what kind of products they get so we can know if we are putting down a distribution center, storefront or a factory"

He legit wants to be able to speak to the machine like he does with his retarded fucking Alexa and get it to give him spreadsheets.
He is basically asking me to develop my replacement.

I am in my current company in eastern europe, working for USA. Pay is good but I am burned out beyond belief. They even want to make me team lead but I can't look at code. I have around 150k USD saved and no mortgage and around 100 m2 flat (around 1000 feet), wondering if I should just fuck off for a sabbatical. I can't even look at code, yet the upper management thinks I am on my way to team lead/architect.

They are also pushing for AI and want me to teach it to the indian team which is a big no-no. Surpirsingly one of the jeets is very competent but his cohort of 5 other indians are raising incidents about literally made up scenarios that could never happen.
>>
How do jeets get american jobs? How do I get one too?
I'm also a third worlder but I consider myself a pretty decent code monkey. I don't even want to move to the US, I just want to get paid in dollars
>>
>>107490587
desu i think that door is pretty much closed for the next few years, the indians that got in are now going to be primarily hiring their friends & family

i was interested in moving to the US to work in tech a couple of years ago, but now it's much too late. i missed my chance to be a miillionaire by not being born 5 years earlier. instead now i have a cushy euro tech job where no one really expects me to work hard or at all really
>>
>>107490587
The system is just a random lottery so indian IT companies spam 1 billion fake resumes
Each individual jeet isn't likely to get a visa but the visa winners are more likely to be jeets

Good news, Team Leads don't code - they sit in meetings and write planning documents and delegate coding to the monkeys.
>>
>>107490587

>>

>>
>>107490804
>Good news, Team Leads don't code - they sit in meetings and write planning documents and delegate coding to the monkeys.

My team lead still codes and does code reviews but he will move to management soon. He wants me to be the successor but I really don't have the heart to tell him I can even look at code or product. But the job market is fucked beyond belief even in outsourcing in eastern europe.

Ubisoft (yeah, yeah I know) has a company here and wants server backend developers but I have to swallow 50% paycut if I want to work somewhere interesting which I don't want.

Few gamblind mobile games also have offices but it is office only and there are a lot of people waiting for you to beat you up because they lost and think it is the deveoper's fault (the money is great to be fair - around 12k euro per month after taxes)
>>
>>107488664
>i'm also a vtuber with 2k subs playing looter shooter games

That doesn't actually make you money does it? My girlfriend really wants to try being a vtuber, but I'm trying to convince her she shouldn't be hoping for it to be more than a hobby, cause I assume the field is way too saturated for it being viable as a career.

She doesn't have some inbuilt audience on social media or anything. She's just a girl who like vidya and has a cute accent, which I assume can be a boon for a vtuber.

Also, did you make your own avatar or have it done by a professional?

At least your cost of living is still quite cheap in Eastern Europe
UK's job market has collapsed, inflation has been running away, and the already shit salaries are regressing (thanks to our first Indian PM issuing 100,000 work visas to fellow cheating jeets)
>>
>>107490959
>At least your cost of living is still quite cheap in Eastern Europe
The cost is rising way too fast here as well. Especially housing. I bought my flat in the capital in a good neighborhood for 850 euroes per m2 in 2018. Now it is 4200 euros. And the median salary in the capital is around 1200 euros. This is insane. We already have 40 year old mortgages

Corrupt politicians. Basically 20% of the properties in the capital are empty because they are too expensive and the politicans are using them to launder money so lol good luck.

I though I had money, after seeing the prices of property this year I felt poor. I get around 9k euro after taxes and feel quite okay (especially after breakup with gf, no more bullshit costs each month). I don't tell people I am in software dev, tell them I am an accountant and I drive Skoda so it is not stolen. Only idiots buy BMW as it will be stolen within an year

Bruh, nobody buys new BMWs in eastern europe, wtf are you talking about. Everything is second hand and still will be stolen. My Skoda is 50k, comfortable for me and brand new with no issues and 10 year warranty.

And btw the 10 year BMW will still be stolen. Eastern european care about brand way way more than if it is 20 year old wreck. If it is a brand new skoda that has better stuff and more horsepower than some old (15+ years) BMW, they will still think the BMW is better. That is the way of life. Some of you people have no idea what you are talking about like that anon that thinks Blackrock comes to Balkans(where I am from)

We all need jobs. Billionaires are almost irrelevant in this matter. That the billionaire is the clown at the top sucks because they are all clowns and retards and only seem to make good decisions by chance that affect the rrst of us. But we have bills to pay and we need jobs, retard. Homeless people also have it simpler, and more miserable. That's an easier position for you to attain, would you like to try that instead?
Billionaires have no place in this specific topic other than that their bad decisions can cost jobs.

Anon you are competing with people who have masters degree's and multiple certs. Even if you have 10+ years of job experience they might even give you that interview. Also how are they suppose to trust that you know the basics without these certs? Homelabs and being a "super user" like the furfaggot claims to be can only get you so far in this job market. Do you seriously think they are hiring network engineers without CCNP and a bachelors?

But this logic and differentiation is lost on idiots i suppose. I'm also spartacus
>how are they suppose to trust that you know the basics without these certs?
By having experience that shows you raising through the ranks and landing better and more technical positions
>Do you seriously think they are hiring network engineers without CCNP and a bachelors?
I have a bachelors but no CNNP and got hired to be a network engineer twice. I quite the first company and the second company kept me as a network engineer, promoted me internally, until i came clean, told them "im bored as fuck ive been automating shit" and they promoted me internally to a developer role where ive been growing even more in ways that i enjoy more than networking
>Homelabs and being a "super user"
You really think a recruiter will look at a candidate with professional experience, then get to their 'personal project' section of their resume and not think "damn he does this in his free time too?". Because my current employers did see that, and the manager of our IT department and my boss who also interviewed me said thats the shit they like to see, and were genuinlely impressed

If you havent been employed in 2 years do you think decided to get a cert now would help? I doubt it would

>>107497754
>Do you guys watch any anime at work?
Yes, in between work or during lunch. I also furiously masturbate
>>
>>107497845
Certs and degree's help for all levels. Experience and homelabs is icing on the cake for most employers. Most people won't get an interview unless its extensive job experience that outweighs (10-15+ years) not having certs/degree's. To say its worthless means you are a retard.

To say it doesn't benefit your career to have fundamentals, mid level or high level education from certs like the CCNP and some supporting cert or the likes means you are also a retard.

What do you think people are doing right now with 10+ years of job experience? They are either moving to a more complex job or specialized role to get more experience or they are doing what 90% of the people here do. They are getting their masters or getting high level certs.
>>
Got a critical design review today for a system that I was made lead for at the start of the year.
The Tech Authority is an old hard ass who questions every little decision made and gets shitty if something isn't strictly by the INCOSE systems engineering book.
The Engineering manager is on my side and backs me in these discussions but he is off sick today, so I am going into this meeting with a design still in review and no one supporting me

And the reason the design is not conplete is because I am the only one on it full time. There are 19 other engineers working on the project and none are allocated to me or my system despite me asking for help the whole year

I am stressed, tired and burnt out. I cant wait for the day to be over

you're telling me someone with a 2 year gap in employment getting an A+ will magically find them a job
I learned the fundamentals through employment, i dont need to get a cert just to stroke my dick off
>What do you think people are doing right now with 10+ years of job experience? They are either moving to a more complex job or specialized role to get more experience
which is what i'm doing...

How common is it for companies to fire people because of skill issues? Have you been fired or seen somebody get fired and why?
>>
>>107497967
If you are applying for an entry level job and don't have A+/Net+ and Sec+(for government jobs) you will have an extremely hard time applying for a help desk/desk side support role. Not to mention with a 2 year work gap. Most people with gaps like that get certs to bridge that with their next employer. I know i would. If you had a bachelors or even an associates it means you might be able to skip A+ and just focus on Net+ and Sec+ but beyond that most entry level jobs REQUIRE these certs and most interview questions pertain the subject matter on hand.

If you never touched these subjects(reading the book but not getting the cert) then you will have an extremely hard time getting them right during an interview or having a grasp of what needs to be done in the workplace without them. An IT degree at most covers the topics of all 3 comptia certs with a dash of CCNA but thats wishful thinking if you never read those books directly and recalling it without going through the pain of getting the cert is even less if never actually completed getting it.
>>
>>107498016
firing people is painful theres months of avoidance first, then if the problem is truly detrimental you have to PIP them, then weeks of HR meetings, unless the person hands the company a reason to fire legitimately on a silver platter its easier for companies to grit their teeth and pay the underachieving leech for at least a decent while
>>
>>107490398
No idea. I work contract and most of my jobs are inherently retarded, and I just charge a huge fee for services anyway. This one started by an admin at a company saying "Our fiber needs replacing because it's old" and so I was asked to test the lines. I grabbed my fiber testing kit that I haven't used in ten years and checked the pairs, which tested good on the ones that gave a result.

At most places, no one has any of the credentials to log in to any equipment and they don't want to change any of the configurations to allow for access, so I'm testing blindly. Only a few have let me pull the config from switches/routers and gain access that way since most only lease their equipment.

My original guess was that they were in half-duplex but I don't think that's the case. I just can't fathom why someone would run a pair of fiber strands to somewhere and not use them both.
>>
>>107498022
>If you never touched these subjects
idk how many times i have to tell you, you can "touch these subjects" or have enough knowledge through experience that a cert on it is pointless
>>
>>107498016
Yes.
I try and make sure I deliver value as fast as possible to set the tone. The tardo that got hired with me talked a lot of game but couldn't deliver. In bigger companies though, it depends ((who)) it is. If said person was hired by Dapreet Jaipur (the CIO) who also happens to be related or from the "same village," then lol, lmao.
>>
>>107498016
Most companies give you the resources to avoid that. But generally you got about 3-6 months before that happens (saw 5 people get piped in the workplace in a year). These people were given all opportunity to avoid getting fired with details of their mistakes. They stopped letting some hiring manager make the requirements and forced it upon the sections themselves to determine what is important for being hired. To our hiring manager's credit he worked our jobs before doing that but he was overwhelmed with 12 sections jobs applications. He can filter for personality and do those entry level interviews but he cannot do technical interviews. That was his fault and our fault.
>>
>>107498041
You still won't get a job without the cert anon. You will never be a woman no matter how much make up you put on. I am speaking about the IT career as a whole not some anecdote like yourself with 10+ years of experience. Entry level requires these certs and are stupid to suggest they can just fuck around on homelabs to get experience to pass these interviews when they won't even look at them without certs or degrees.

Take what i said and apply it as a REQUIREMENT. If you are US then these certs are non negotiable. You might get hired and given 6 months to take it before they fire you but that's about it.
>>
>>107498109
To be fair, I should have emphasized working on government contracts* not the government directly.
>>
>>107498118
Like i said its the same thing effectively. It is a REQUIREMENT to have the certs listed on these job postings. If you want to do network engineering then having a Bachelors, Sec+ and CCNP(either enterprise or service provider) is non negotiable. Its not just a filter for the government but its like having a license to fuck around with 100k$ usd routers. Your 10+ years of experience might get your resume to their table but they will throw it out if you don't have Sec+ or whatever cert is required for that position.

Sure. I left an ok dev job back in May that I did for 2 years. The newest job was basically an API integrations role with using low code platforms I started in July mostly involving marketing platforms since my boss was purely an idiot marketer that talked hype but didn't do shit herself.

What bugged the shit out of me is that her boss was one of those execs who would change the vibe of a call instantly when he joined since people feared him. He was one of those guys that won't shut the fuck up, and when he asks you questions they are usually yes or no type questions but more so in a demanding manner.

I was told by my boss that I was gonna be put onto a performance review in October aka the kiss of death. If you ever get this, just leave. There is no coming back since even if you meet their demands, your reputation is tarnished.

I went through the PIP call with my boss and her supervisor, and it was the most evil call I have ever had in my life. They were saying that they didn't like me, and there were other execs who didn't either.

For reference, my boss during my one-on-ones would stare in the distance, and tell me, "Oh sorry, I was worrying about my own tasks I have to get done" (Wtf?)

The third party we worked with that onboarded me and my teammate basically had their API integrations in the most convoluted way possible to the point where only THEY would know everything. They were terrible at documenting anything and were toxic to the point my fucking teammate left 1 month in because of their bullshit.

Fast forward to a month ago, I was doing all the API integration stuff myself, and honestly pretty well comparatively. I was 3 weeks ahead of schedule so I call bs completely, they just didn't like me for some reason.

The stupid part was the dumb marketing exec would constantly have these new ideas for campaigns that they would push all my work in flux. Lesson learned, I don't wanna do Solutions Engineer or GTM Engineer type work ever again.

I did one. Biggest advice if you've been working in technical support and know a ton about computers in general and are autistic with Linux and programming, you will be miles above the average boot camp grad I worked with.

The biggest thing I did was to apply to jobs IMMEDIATELY after I started making projects. I was able to get a junior dev job in my local state remotely.

That job turned to shit since I was trying to finish the bootcamp and do it at the same time. I got lazy and got fired. 3 months later though, I kept applying locally and got the dev job I had for 2 years up until last May.

Idk if it was truly worth it though, the company I did technical support for remotely was really really good. I miss that team, and working with devs on their projects since I was just doing tech support for a SaaS product offered to devs. That was a fun one.

Making SaaS applications sucks. There's a big difference.

Anyway, rant aside, if you got a good team and a good boss, definitely do not take it for granted. Sure you wanna power play in life and go as far as you can.

But honestly, I can only think of a handful of people I actually liked outside of the job mentioned above.

No, but some tech experience does help.

I'm.gonna be edgy for a second but I have seen actual niggers who couldn't be bothered with shit with computers try to get though it, and they seemed just fine. Even dumb ass Stacey's too.

If you can do the basics of programming and know your way around a file system and how to debug shit, you will go a long way.

Biggest side advice too, find a friend doing the same thing and form a company.

This faggot Zoomer I worked with did this while in college and got away with so much shit in this respect and was able to move on to a successful NY startup. Pretty sure his company was full of shit too but most dumb recruiters don't know either.

Learn how to lie effectively and say you've been doing the work for that long.

Playing minecraft and downloading mods for Fallout 2 made me quite good at that. I've done some basic coding stuff, but it was in python. I highly recommend you read up books regarding what you want to get into for the bootcamp so you are not wasting your time on VERY FAST education. It will make relearning the topics much easier. Find a bootcamp that does the following:
Frontend: Typescript, JS, NextJS, React.
Backend: Python, C#, Ruby On Rails

If you're able to do projects using those technologies, you will be well on your way to getting your first gig.

You could also just find the GitHub of any bootcamp and just learn from what they have for free and say you went there.

yes everything pays like shit and cost of living is too high. tech salaries are appealing because it lets you actually earn a middle class income very quickly. whats likely to happen to you instead is youre going to get an expensive degree with no value and then drive trucks for USPS instead.
