Reminder to not get shilled by the intel shills that have been ruining these threads for months. Iceberg Tech just tested the 285k with 8000mhz memory and the 200S boost and it loses to even the 7800x3d on BF6. If you are a gaymer buy X3D. Intel CPU's are only good for people that do work on their PC, the E-Cores are wasted on gaming and you are just getting an 8 core cpu without all the cache X3D chips have that helps way more for gaming then 8000 mhz meme memory.

> RX 9070 XT or 7900XTX?

Unless you very specifically need the vram, there is absolutely no reason to get a 7900XTX over a 9070 XT. The 7900 XTX is more expensive, has less of the fancy features, and generally performs worse on basically every benchmark I have seen. If you intentionally turn off all of the upscaling and ray-tracing and all of that nonsense, you only get about a 5% performance boost on benchmarking for most games, and they are both such good cards that you probably wouldn't notice that difference unless you're playing on 4k ultra all the time.

Really the only reason to get the 7900 XTX is if you really wanted the 24 gb of vram over the 16gb of 9070 XT or you need the 24 gb of vram for something productivity related like ML/AI/3d modeling/video editing etc. You probably aren't getting an AMD card for productivity stuff though. CUDA wipes the floor with ROCm in pretty much every circumstance.

Brother, Micron literally shit down their consumer RAM brand and have scaled back their ddr5 production (both of which are on pubic announcements from their corporate office) because consumer parts is such a low profit game considered to HBW.

Consider this, HBW uses dozens of times more wafers per batch of units because its architecture is inherently less efficient. If Micron makes the HBW modules they get to charge tens of thousands of dollars for the same amount of raw material as a few hundred dollars worth of ddr5. If Micron doesn't get the contract for the HBW, they can still get the contract for the wafers, which they can charge more for because HBW sells for so much more.

It's like wondering why NVidia has shifted away from consumer cards and towards business, datacenter and workstation cards. For the same fab capacity, they could make 2 dozen HB1000's that they sell at $60k per unit, or they could make a about 100 5080's which they sell to AIB's for about $650 per unit. Which one do you think they want to prioritize?

Why do people seethe so much if you have a higher end build? I love buying top line and then not having to worry about upgrades for years.

>>107512204
I prefer spending half as much twice as often. It's about even (or slightly better) if you average out the performance over a long period of time, but you never hit these walls where things are too hard for your hardware to run. Also, you can delay an upgrade and not feel so bad.
If you only upgrade once every 5-7 years, you might get fucked by bad timing right when you plan to upgrade.

Plus you get to build more PCs and you end up with more spare hardware.
>>
>>107512204

You're right, in situations like this and with the fact that graphics have hit a plateau there's really no reason not to max out your build. This is the perfect time for pc gamers to practice what they preach and build that 10 year machine.

If you're really building a 10 year machine, I would waitfag for a little longer. AMD is moving from 5nm to 2nm with Zen7 which should be a massive leap, not to mention ddr6 and a brand new socket for upgradeability. Same with RDNA4 -> UDNA.

Did I fuck up?

RAM DDR5 6400 (PC5 51200)
>>
>>107511976
Current market situation is a result of a manufactured shortage cased by the collective efforts of NAND/RAM cartel. For the past 3 years they were CUTTING DOWN PRODUCTION LINES AS THEY HAVE "OVERSUPPLIED AND "LOWMARGRIN MARKETS WERE FURTHER DEPRESSED" The datacenter buildup has begun in 2023~ unsurprisingly this is the year when the first production cuts begun.
The plan is to cause a shortage, profit from it, screw the market for at least half a decade and blame it on the AI boom.
Naturally they were fully aware of the upcoming demand spike as all parts of the bubble are at least partially owned by Blackrock & Vanguard and every cartel exec is Jasen's dinner buddy.
The actual shortage comes down to wafers, math is fairly simple: us consumer dogs, manufacturers and datacenters are competing for the same wafer. Guess who pays more.
ANY STATED PRODUCTION INCREASES ARE NOT AIMED AT THE CONSUMER OR MANUFACTURER MARKET
Currently there is no shortage on any of the consumer market segments, the price hike is entirely down to collective psychosis
Real shortage
- is expected to hit q2-q3 2026
- will last at least until q-4 2027 if they hate money and q2-q3 2028 if they are sane capitalists
- will affect GPU prices starting from q-2 2026, sooner because psychosis
- will most likely affect consumer DDR6 implementation
- it becomes effectively impossible to oversupply for the next 5+ years so the price will be stable and high
The results are self evident, RAM/NAND doubles in price, everyone important gets a cut, PC/console/phone costs up to 1500$ more and local LLM movement gets its legs blown from under it.
Maybe some legislator will get prodded enough to pretend to care and then some Hyung Pak Cuck goes to a one room apartment for like 5 years, he will have to settle only for one underage prostitute visit a day, 2* michelin cuisine and the true horror, no cocaine. Once he is out he will become a top Samsung exec.

what?

you want to be grounded. just go literally barefooted (no socks). It's annoying, but I always do it when installing components, up until I am booted up. If more tinkering in the case is needed, back to barefooted (since I'll have the power off at the power supply).

This is explained by eevblog. bogan grounding.

Is the degradation on 13th gen really fixed with the new updates?
I have a 13700k and it shit the bed again, so I am assessing my options.
1. Get it replaced and hope that it works for a few years now.
2. Go for a 12700k for 230€ /12900k(s) 300€
3. Go for a Ryzen 5950x + MB for combined 370€

I would keep my DDR4 and the rest of the system. What makes the most sense? But I am fed up with my 13th gen, and I would hate it breaking again in the future.

What price are we realistically looking at for the 5070 Super if it doesn't get cancelled?
I'm really thinking hard on the video card thing because I can't decide if I should go 1440p or commit to 4k for my monitors. How do people who play a lot of old games navigate monitor choice knowing they won't support more than 1080p rendering if not less than that?

Currently Considering upgrading the storage on my pc. Probably gonna get a maybe 500gb-1tb SSD so I can dual boot windows just to run some editing software and a few games that don't work on linux.

But I'm also considering getting some HDD's just to have that extra bulk storage, I currently only have 2TB of storage since I was stupid and when building thought 2TB was more then enough.

Have HDD's gotten to the point where its perfectly fine to just use them as game/other storage? or are they still horrible? I had a friend who only had HDD and it would take him ages to load into any multiplayer game, that was a while back so I'm unsure if they are better now

>>
>>107513513
If it doesn't get cancelled? +$50 to +$75 over the base 5070. It is supposed to be a higher binned chip with more cores active (all cores?), so it is unlikely that it will be the same price. It is not considered to be in an overpriced position at the moment so there is no justification for a refresh to keep or lower the prices to make it more enticing. Realistically memory prices are going to make this a very very silly clown deal if it isn't cancelled. I think the 3GB modules are relatively new and so Nvidia couldn't possibly be sitting on a stockpile of those while they waited for more high bin chips.

Technically speaking 4k monitors will scale 1080 output accurately while 1440p ones will not, but you are not a career pixel hunter and so you shouldn't really care. Going 4k with a basic 5070 will severely hamstring your graphics options freedom.

Pulse is a decent card, but it's got more mind share than other better cards because it's Saphire, and because it was one of the few that cost $600 at launch. You can still get a hellhound (medium-long but 2.5 slots) or Steel Legend (shorter but 3 slots) for $630 and they are as good (steel legend) or better (Hellhound) than the Pulse. Only reason I'd pay extra for a pulse is if you absolutely needed two HDMI ports.

Should I just get a 5070TI at this point to replace my aging 2060, or keep waiting on seeing if nVidia even bothers with a 5000 super series? My card's 6gb VRAM is such a complete bottleneck in my Substance Painter projects. Modern games also looking aids due to modern-day devs forgetting the art of texture streaming. Mainly wanting to hit 1440p/120hz at respectable settings here on most games.

It's between MSI & Asus for price-points I'm after (most of the makes are CAD$1000'ish at present), even though the former has noise issues, and the latter has aids customer support. At least the mid-range cards are back in stock in general of late, compared to most of the year prior.

Was directed here, but am building a new PC soon (well paying a company to do so but whatever) and while I do not have complete specs here are the main parts I am planning on buying. Just wanna make sure there is nothing important that could cause issues I am overlooking.

Budget is around £4k or so but can go over (UK).

GPU: PALIT 32GB GEFORCE RTX 5090 (Company only offers this GPU I heard mixed things about Palit)
CPU: Ryzen 7 9800x3D
MOBO: GIGABYTE X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7
RAM (OH GOD): CORSAIR Vengeance 64gb (2x32gb) DDR5 6000MHz
PSU: Corsair 1500W HXi ATX

I know this doesn't list Storage or Coolers, but again I am paying a company to build it and this won't be for a few weeks. Any advice or warnings would be helpful (just prefer ELI5 tier explanations).

Just take it lol. If you're worried about melting issues, you can always get a $200 wireview pro II to monitor the current distribution
>>
>>107516100
>PSU: Corsair 1500W HXi ATX
also, get an atx3.1 psu that has a native 16-pin connector implemented. I have a similar corsair psu with the 2x 8-pin to 16-pin cable and there's too much play on the psu side's sockets which severely fucks with current distribution and is a major melting risk.
>>
>>107516143
Should I worry too much about that since I play 1080p? I am concerned about melting and general hardware issues that I know plague the 5090. I wanted to get an ASUS ROG ASTRAL but the company ain't offering it.
>>107516159
I'll keep that in mind. Major melting risk for the PSU right? I had a PSU crap out on my on my current machine a year or two ago, had to replace it obviously.

Mostly yes, some CPUs are still degrading but they are a small batch compared to the original mayhem. I do think the issue was indeed (mostly) solved as I have seen Dell/HP prebuilds with i7 14700 still sold brand new.
If you want to err on being cautious, you can just limit the VID request to 1.4v on your motherboard config. That works very well.
I have a i9 13900k that I bought used like 6 months ago in a bundle. It is not degraded in any way or form, but in order to keep it safe, I capped the VID request to 1.4v. I don't use it daily, but till now, that CPU works fine. Zero instability.
>>
>>107515887
What the actual fuck is this design? Fans blow hot air onto the cable?
>>
don't buy just keep waiting
>>
>>107516324
>Major melting risk for the PSU right?
For the psu and gpu. I'm using an astral 5090 and just having it seated on a random try creates a huge variance in current anywhere from 4-13A on the best and worst pins at 600W which is not great since its supposed to be up to 9.2A as per the atx spec.
it takes a couple of reinsertions and moving the cables just in the right position over 10-30 minutes to get all pins to balance +/-5% or 8.0-8.7A on amperage draw
>>
>>107513247
since you're asking "Is the degradation on 13th gen really fixed with the new updates?" i'm gonna assume you didn't update the BIOS after you received a new chip
if you did then provide more details, how do you know your 13700K "shit the bed again"?
>>107516438
>I do think the issue was indeed (mostly) solved as I have seen Dell/HP prebuilds with i7 14700 still sold brand new.
raptor lake is still being produced, i have a 14700K produced in 2025
which means intel is still manufacturing new chips with 5 year warranties
>It is not degraded in any way or form, but in order to keep it safe, I capped the VID request to 1.4v
that's a little low if you're at stock voltages
not a big deal really, but you might be stuck at like 5.4 GHz most of the time

I measure it after doing it with everything else on default settings, and the core was boosting to 5.7Ghz. So I lost just 100mhz. After undervolting and theaking Load lines it worked fined.
From my experience, most i9s do not need that high voltages to get their boost working, the problem is switching from low load to high load and vise versa.

After seeing that pretty much all the brands have their own shit-tier, same-manufacturer-different-branding line of products in the sub-$200 price bracket, I would say trust none of them. A lot of the time people will recommend the enterprise UPS suppliers, Eaton, Vertiv/Liebert, etc, for their perceived quality, but you can still get duds/bad units from them too.

That said, I've got a Vertiv-Liebert UPS that's been rock solid through power outages (aside from an obnoxious beep that happens every few seconds until it runs out of juice or you forcefully shut it down). It has some mixed reviews on Amazon and is allegedly not very good for offsite UPS-use due to issues when the battery drains completely, but for keeping a gaming PC alive long enough to safely shut down and the price I paid (got it half off from a local store trying to liquidate), it does what I need it to do.

Pic related is what I've thought about so far, I don't even know if this actually fits inside the case, I'm very illiterate when it comes to all this, but the case is what I care the less about, idc if it looks ugly as long as everything fits well and the air flow is decent
This would cost me 18k MXN so 1k USD, I know it sounds super expensive but that's because of the importation taxes, there's no way around it, and the second hand market here is practically non-existent for PC gaming
I really need you guys' suggestions to make this a little bit better without making it super expensive, or maybe even decreasing the total price if possible

Are my ONLY options the 4060 (115W) and 5060 (145W)? They're kinda expensive for the performance they give compared to buying old AMD slop, but said AMD slop is power hungry as fuck and has the secret extra 50 bucks cost of a new PSU...
>>
>>107517980
what even is the point of the new x3d cpus if the old ones are nearly as fast and cost much less? like x3d doesn't seam to age. it's just the clock speeds that are the problem.
>>
>>107518027
if you can't power a 150W+ gpu your psu is just trash and should be replaced anyways
>>
>>107518037
I'm replacing the 1660 Super in my brother's PC and want to match the TDP as closely as possible so I don't risk spending money on a card that shuts the PSU off when it spools up.
Otherwise the 6700XT is a no-brainer at that price. It should still be decent for 1080p in the types of games a 12 year old would play.

>Buy an upgrade
>Spend most time in 4chan and youtube anyway
>Mostly play gachaslops anyway
What is wrong with me
>>
>>107518066
why match? do you not know the rating or the model of psu you got?
>>
>>107517929
If you do decide on 1440p later on, 8gb would be pushing it for modern game.
For emulator, it's definitely more than enough

>>107517938
Ivy bridge is old old bro, going to am4 straight would be a huge jump.
Selling the old parts cheap later on should be easy.
>>
>>107518082
The PC is at his house and I don't want to just roll up and randomly dismantle his PC to figure out what garbage PSU the prebuilders put in 5 years ago
>>
>>107518091
it's like four screws usually. he should be able to do it. just take a picture of the lebel. it may even be visible and there is no need to remove the psu at all.
>>
>>107518079
generating AI sloppa of Gachagame characters with your fresh high end PC is the real /pcbg/ endgame anyways
>>
>>107518128
Good fucking suggestion I'll do exactly that

>you should 100% build the pc in steps instead of getting bad components
Okay that's very sounds advice and it'll be easier on my walle
> buy a psu and a 9060 xt, it'll do 1440p
Right now the PC I have is this fossil (i5 3rd gen version, 16gb drr3 ram) that I bought 7 years ago for work, it has an HDD, will it be able to run anything recent without stuttering like crazy at 1080p maybe even lower resolutions in window mode?
>buy ram if you can
Might do this because the prices might increase even more, but I believe I won't be able to use it on my toaster
>>107518088
Okay, I don't really plan on emulating much, just demon souls and drakengard 3
And you're right about the ivy bridge, and I can't really salvage the ram I have either, that's why I feel like might as well buy everything now, I feel very conflicted haha
Being broke sucks
>>
>>107518027
>>107518091
3060, cuz 3060-1660=1400

Also just don't want to bother with switching drivers
>>
>>107518152
I would buy a 9060 xt 16gb, an ssd, ram and a new PSU if your psu is too old.
then 6 months from now I'd get the cpu, motherboard, case upgrades
>>
>>107518175
those are some very strange requierments and limits you set yourself.
>>
>>107518188
Nah, not that original anon. Agreed on checking the psu first. I do get the concern if it's a shrouded basement psu
>>
>>107517980
what was wrong with the 9800x3d+9950x3d? that was what i was looking for when i upgraded, second generation on the ddr5 platform, so issues were mostly ironed out, it was the golden time.

Now your waitcucked too long and you're seething.
>>
I put 3 intake fans on the bottom of my case, and 3 exhaust fans on the top (all 3 going through the AIO) so right now all the air in the case is going through the AIO which doesn't seem that great. I'm thinking of adding another fan to the back of the case but I dunno if it should be intake or exhaust.
>>
any cable management advice?
>>
>>107517980
9800x3d came out at the end of 2024, you're the one who chose to waitfag.
>>
>>107517347
Just get a Fractal Torrent (regular or compact) with the metal slab side version of the case.
>>
>>107518297
zip ties
>>
>>107518027
I would just get a 5060, if not that the 3060

>>107518324

Back would always be an exhaust, unless you got an odd itx case.

I personally still don't get how to setup airflows with aio, but my friend went push and pull on their aio

I did not find frequency settings in bios.
PBO2tuner is flagged as a virus just like every other hardware tweaker out there but I managed some tests with it.
Frequency capped to 3400 (base), defalut power limits.
CO zero vs PBO disabled shows exactly the same performance / power / temperature behaviour during cinebench.
PBO enabled with CO -30 shows better performance to power results than above.
But making windows not delete PBO2tuner on every boot is a major pain and the result is basically the same as limiting power consumption (ECO mode or manual) in bios with enabled PBO.

>Anything special need to be done to clean or wipe that off? Sorry for all the questions, we really do need a friendly mac general.
No, but it's a little bit of a pain to clean. I use glasses wipes and normal cleaning spray for lenses.

Imagine paying 700 usd for gddr6. Nigga for 500-600 you could have gotten 12 go gddr7
>>
>>107512145
Do not buy any of these brand new. You're going to get raped anally by the ram and nvme prices
>>
>>107512359
Depends on where you are, but something there are cheap Am4 setups without gpu. I did that few years ago, ryzen 7 8 cores, 16 gb ddr4 (made it 32), bequiet psu, NZXT watercooling (sold it and got a cheaper but same tdp bequiet air cooler). Had to buy an nvme and a gpu but those ones are bound to change with time so I don't mind
>>
>>107512728
Nigga your fault for not passing over to ssd. Prices were super low for the last 3 years
>>
>>107512914
Loooool niggas out there spending half their paycheck for a pair of ram sticks. I stocked 7-8 pairs of ddr4 and at least 10 pairs of ddr3. I am set. Also got a rtx 5070 to sell when the stocks end
>>
>>107513355
Get a better cooler and a paste
>>
>>107513849
No get an ssd. You will thank me later
>>
>>107513901
Invert the direction retardo. If you do this you're gonna throttle the gpu. Gpu should have direct airflow coming on to the fans, not the other way, around
>>
>>107514089
Kek the corsair rgb ddr4 kit I got for 40 usd just sold it today for 110 lel. I'm a made man
>>
>>107514599
Do not use them. Gpus are not made for vertical mounting
>>
>>107515406
Tough luck Nigger cheap computing is dead. Even on used market a pair of 16 gig ddr4 goes for 75-80 usd now. 32 gig for 100 and more
>>
>>107517475
No you're good, just get a spare 2 tb nvme if you don't have but that's all
>>
>>107518027
Just get a new and more powerful Nigger. How poor are you? Even shitty 650 watt corsairs are like 20-25 usd used
>>
>>107518152
Ps3 emulation needs a really good cpu and gpu. It is still not there yet as a shitty android can emulate ps2 or GameCube. Get a ps3 directly if you wanna play ps3 games
>>
>>107512914
>dream ram
guarentee this zoomer retard never gave a fuck about ram or even knew what timings were until the price gouging
>>
Computers are too expensive. I'm gonna give it another shot at going outside and talking to people
