I spent my day yesterday putting together my new build and even troubleshot the most obvious issues. Then I realized I could hear it. The thing is idling louder than my old PC sounded under load. I’ve messed with some of the curves despite never having done that before and got a tiny bit of improvement but it’s still a very apparent constant sound. The default curves started at 50%.
I’ve got 3 Thermalright c212c’s daisychained, the fans that come on a Fractal North, and my cooler is a Peerless Assassin 120 Digital. How would I go about seeing my next course of action? Unplugging each set and seeing which one makes the most noise?

are you using an x3d cpu too? those have pretty drastic temperature spikes compared to old intel cpus and those spikes will greatly affect how quickly the fans ramp up and down

Currently I've got
>B450 tomahawk m
>32gb 3200cl16
>r5 3600
>5060TI 16gb
The ram and gpu are fairly recent, I got them on the cheap from a colleague that was upgrading. Considering that I've got an actually decent gpu now, I'm considering upgrading the cpu as well. The 5600 is currently going for about 120 euro here, the 5600x for 140, 5700x for 150, and 5800x for 175. What would you guys recommend I go up to? The 5600 and 5600x are pretty much the same if I've understood correctly, so not much point in paying 20 more for the X. Whereas the 5700x and the 5800x are also pretty close to eachother. So at first glance I'd think it was between the 5600 and 5700x.

get the high refresh 1440p monitor and use upscaling where necessary to hit high framerates. 1440p is useful even outside of games so it'd be silly to get the 1080p just because your gpu can't run native 1440p above 60hz in games

The six cores get saturated easily. The 8 core 5700X and 5800X are 100% identical, get the cheaper X. The non X 5700 is a scam cpu, make sure you don't get that one.

Doesn't mean it's 'good'. You get 12V-2x6 instead of 12VHPWR, able to handle 100% power spikes better and higher efficieny I believe. Nothing about most of the internals as we saw with the cheap Chinesium cables.
>>
>>107673141
Lower the fan curve to minimal and acceptable noise under load. If temps are good then leave it alone. You may not need a million rpm to cool. Some setups can even do zero rpm at idle.
>>
>>107673118
If you can run 1080p, you can run 4K.
So 4K 100+ FPS
>>
>>107673266
>But even at idle the pc is pretty loud.
If you really can't lower the curve lower then dump those fans for something else
>>
>>107673367
That’s probably gonna be the move. I can at least return them, I think. I’ll buy new fans/cooler, make sure they work, then ship out the returns. I just have to make sure it’s also not the included case fans being loud as fuck, too.
Like I said in a post before I had beQuiet fans and a FUMA Scythe 2 on the old build, but I built that almost 7 years ago and I’m not sure how the quality on those are these days. I don’t plan on running this PC like a rented mule but I do want to enjoy my 5080/9800X3D. Any recommendations?
>>
>>107673395
case fans are pretty tricky. i'm using lian li's for the aesthetics currently and have had a pretty shitty experience with them starting to rattle so i can only recommend avoiding them. i've also had a pretty good experience with scythe's fans, particularly their kaze flex for use as case intake fans
for high pressure applications like heatsinks and radiators, i'd say that noctua's a12x25 G2s are the current best but they aren't cheap. I'm not too sure about bequiet's fans as i've never used any of them

If the OS being multithreaded is the problem, then the issue isn't "multicore" CPUs it's scheduling latency.
A single-core CPU running a modern multithreaded OS would be a slideshow because it has to context-switch 1,000x more often on a single pipeline. If you want that analog smoothness, you're actually looking for low DPC latency, not fewer cores.
Have you ever actually run a LatencyMon test? It'll show you exactly which driver is 'stuttering' your OS, and it’s usually just a bad Wi-Fi driver, not the CPU architecture.

maybe the TRUE RGB subpixel 4k one will be better, maybe it will have crazy nerfed brightness? colors?
maybe 5k qdoled will be better
in short it depends

I don't know. I have loads of lithium battery cells for RC cars etc. They have storage voltage that must be kept just like all Lithium batteries. It's about 60 percent charge for long life. I don't know how they manage the batteries without degrading them. It's the reason phone batteries bloat up. They are kept stored at a full charge and some uses don't draw them down enough during a day's use.

theres no general rule. you'd want to look for user reviews of gpus you're considering. every brand makes good or bad cards depending on the product tier and product generation. E.g. asus' 4090 strix were godawful because of terrible coil whine while gigabyte's 4090 gaming oc was amazing for having minimal coil whine. another example would be msi's 5090 ventus being garbage because of its weak cooler while their 5090 suprim is the quietest air cooled card among all brands

1080p imo. I kinda regret getting a 4k monitor tbhfamalan. at least it is dual mode
>>
>>107674527
Nobody can run new games at 4k at 240fps so paying 100$ less for the 165hz is better. Woled is also better than qdoled. 5k is useless because no media will support it.

>>107674643
I bought a G5 TV for a monitor and it gets blindingly bright compared to the C4-C5. It's really nice. It's the brightest on the market, by a bit. Monitor tech filters down from TVs so hopefully it pans out, and proves decent.

noise normalized test results are ideal. because they put everyone on an even playing field. the 1 or 2% in clock speed boost i don't really care about usually.
>>
>>107674688
Not really, there are a lot of flaws with it as a methodology. The efficiency of a fan and cooling system isn't going to be tied to a certain noise threshold, especially not one as arbitrary as 40dBA.
It also looks at cards in isolation and disregards passive cooling elements like backplates and elements of the card intended to be cooled via air circulation in a case rather than the GPU's own cooling.

Real-world, nobody is gaming with their card hooked up to a fanless test bench and locked at 40dBA with a sound meter, so what it says directly is kinda meaningless and deriving values from it is just a review trying to convince you they know best. It's often just because they can't be bothered taking the time to more thoroughly test it.

Anon, it's a UPS, it'll always be plugged in and it'll top the batteries off automatically as needed.

I have zero concern about long term storage without power.
>>
>>107674750
I wonder how much of this is only being said because it's asrock on the top
>>
>>107674770
this. 40dba is great for any pc under my desk.
>>
>>107674770
Well, I like Asrock and really wanted a Tachi motherboard, but I was put off by the burnings. So, not really that. More just a hatred for tech reviews, I guess.

It's your job to get given free PC hardware and make videos about it. Stop being a lazy piece of shit and actually test it in a realistic way. Stop whining about needing an "easy access test bench so it doesn't take me 2 days to test a card!!!", it's your fucking job to test products as people are going to use them.
>>
>>107674767
>it'll always be plugged in
That's what kills lithium batteries. Unless it stores them at 60 percent. Being fully charge degrades them. That what scared me off of a lithium UPS. They need to be used or stored at an appropriate level when not in use. I'd say its ok, but the same thing happens with laptop batteries that are constantly plugged in and batteries never used. Maybe they have a workaround somehow.

>>107674673
you can run plenty in 4k240
you don't need to render at 4k to get benefit from 240hz if running in 4k mode
woled is literally worse, except now people are dicksucking the new (asus exlusive btw) coating
5k wont be useless because the ppi increase which is goated res for 27" in all actuality, you finally have enough ppi to brute force away the bad subpixel layout, if 4k is not enough

>>107674684
based and tv pilled
I could have buyedboughted the g5 55 WITH STAND for 1444€ on bf mind you
now the sales were worse and also now they are completely removed and even worse
but I still think qdoled will be better
samsung has no fucking sales going AAAAAAA

>>107674767
You don't understand anon
Lithium batteries that are always charged up to the top of their limits will degrade well before 10 years.
Lifespan of lithium batts are heavily dependent on how they are managed with charge and discharge limits.
As an example, a hybrid battery meant to last 10 years is only allowed to use about 40% of it's nominal capacity. From about 40% charge to 80% charge. Both extreme discharging and charging degrades lithium significantly.

This wouldn't be an issue if you could replace the battery but I doubt you'll ever able to replace the lithium battery if it ever does fail. In which case the reliability of the UPS itself is dependent on how the battery is treated.

Lithium UPS's trade no battery replacements to a potential the whole UPS is junk

hol up
LG is making the 42" oled TV Pill obsolete, also it's 240hz compared to the old 165hz 5k2k

World’s Largest 52-Inch 5K2K 240Hz Gaming Monitor The LG UltraGear evo 52-inch G9 (52G930B) introduces a new class of large-format gaming displays as the world’s largest 5K2K gaming monitor, offering gamers an unprecedented range of screen size options within the UltraGear evo lineup. The expansive scale is paired with a blazing-fast 240Hz refresh rate, ensuring consistent responsiveness and image fidelity.

The massive screen features the vertical viewing height of a standard 42-inch 16:9 display, stretching horizontally for an expansive 12:9 panoramic view. This form factor provides a workspace 33 percent wider than a standard UHD monitor. A 1000R curvature encloses the user’s peripheral vision for seamless immersion. Visuals are equally impactful delivering vivid color and deep contrast validated by VESA Display HDR™ 600.

Your phone uses Li-NMC (Lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxides) which you're correct, can degrade from being kept at 100% charge.
Lithium battery UPSs use LiFePO4 (Lithium iron phosphate/LFP) Li-LFP, and while Li-LFP batteries ALSO prefer sitting at 50% charge, they don't degrade ANYWHERE near as quickly at 100% charge compared to Li-NMC.

Also, Li-LFP loses 1-3% of charge per month, and they're generally designed so they charge to 100%, then let the batteries naturally discharge until it hits 90-95% over a few months, then it'll top it off again instead of constantly going between 99-100% every week or two.

And finally, Li-LFP UPSs will generally be "smart" in that the cells it uses might be 100% full at 3.65V, but the battery management system reports 100% charge at 3.45V so it doesn't ACTUALLY charge the cells to 100% ever.

are 13/14th gen cpus still cracking? would they be too gimped by my ddr4?

>>107674798
I would agree but it's neigh impossible to standardize on a case, fans, etc.
Truthfully I feel like reviewers are just an arm of the marketing departments for these companies at the end of the day anyway. Even if the reviewers themselves are unwilling participants.
Every review is just a measurement of how much they cared to meet the review criteria with bad products showing they don't care or are using a shitty model to steer you into the higher end ones. (you see this alot with Nvidia)

>dual mode

How is it? Does your 1080 look better/worse than native? Isn't 4k a waste?
>>
>>107672993
isn't this bad for the figure? figures bend at the knee, and it's probably more likely to happen at higher temperatures. I'm seeing more and more people do this but it seems retarded
>>
>>107674845
NTA, but by the time the lithium cells need replacing (and remember this is a battery backup that only comes online during a power outage, not an electric car that gets driven almost daily), the rest of the UPS will likely need replacement too. I wouldn't recommend using the same lead acid battery powered UPS for 10+ years even with battery swaps every 3 years, the control electronics age and degrade too.
Also it looks like that particular unit (goldenmate) while it doesn't have a hotswap user replaceable battery, the cells (packs) are standard consumer batteries and the internal wiring is all standard terminals, if you're confident with a screw driver and know basic electronics repair, you can likely replace the cells (packs) yourself, but at 10+ years old I'd probably just replace the whole thing anyway.

How do I know if cheapass mobo can take an i7? It's a $100 mobo (B460M D3H), I was told back when I bought it that it can handle an i5 tops. Think it was all about how my VRM is straight dogshit and can't handle but I don't know much about it. Is there any way to know why or how to see the limit? I mean, there are i7 that run at 65W just like my current i3 does. So how can I know?
