Hi /pcbg/
I’m finalizing the parts list for my first build and would appreciate some insight from people who know more than I do.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zKCv89
Budget is $3500. I live in the US, not within driving distance of a Microcenter. Primarily for gaming (though I care much more about performance than ray tracing), video editing, and streaming. I’m aiming for 1440p.
A couple key concerns of mine are the PSU and airflow. I want to make sure my PC will never draw more power than mu PSU can supply, but I think I’ve gone overboard with the one I’ve chosen. I’m also much more comfortable with air cooling than liquid cooling - I’ve never used a liquid cooler before and am concerned about maintainence costs, which is why I’ve elected to go with air cooling, but I’m worried about the fans I’ve selected being either poor value or ineffective for the components I’ve selected.
I’d also like to ask for advice on choosing a case. Looks are secondary to airflow for me. I’m currently torn between the Meshify 2 and Torrent, but I’m open to recommendations, especially if they perform better.
Thank you, sorry for any stupidity

Both cards will perform similarly the 5060TI is a bit stronger and you might want to have nvidia's support but it should only be about 80 or $ more expensive than a similarly tiered 9060xt not 130$

5060ti 16gb in the USA ordered by price
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#c=593&sort=price&page=1&P=17179869184,51539607552

9060xt in the USA ordered by price
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#c=596&sort=price&P=17179869184,51539607552

Check those to find the models your local shop is selling and find out if either of them is a better deal. However they seem to be sensibly more expensive than just amazon
>>
>>107709235
better reinstall windows
ddu drivers
replace thermal paste with a phase change pad
undervolt with msi afterburner
then finally decide you have enough money to upgrade to a 5070 ti before prices go way out of control

Rough.
What would a 5070 or 9070 cost you?
I guess on the 5060ti vs 9060xt you would have to weigh out how much you want framegen/dlss/pathtracing (borderline on a 5060ti but still so far doable) and any other currently available/future nvidia exclusive feature.
5060ti is usually a little bit faster too.

>are the PSU
i'm running a 9950X3D and a 5070 on a CoolerMaster V750, you're fine with your PSU choice even if it is overkill

i also never thought i'd do liquid cooling but i went with a Arctic LF Pro III 360 in an Asus AP201 case (which is mATX not ATX) and it's as cool and quiet as can be for daily driving and less noisy than air cooling under load. personally i hate glass cases so i love the full mesh of the AP201, and with the AIO cooler and the full mesh case i need only one additional fan for some intake air to cool the RAM.

Noctua fans are good but you do pay for the name, i'm sure other anons can suggest different brands (I did use Noctua for my intake fan).

1000w psu would be overkill for that setup, 1200w if you want more headroom. Check for cybernetics a rating or higher
Avoid asrock for am5 they still haven't found the reason their boards are killing cpus.
Probably want an aio over air cooler for a 16 core cpu
Non-x3d cpus want 6000mhz ram, 5200 is too slow.

You should be able to get within your budget
9950x3d
b850/x870 from anyone but asrock
1000w psu

ja most people don't understand the real problem which is not zapping something and having it fail at that moment, but instead zapping something just enough to bugger it but not enough to make it instantly fail, then later (or maybe never!) the part fails and you have no idea wat happen.

Hell ESD isnt even the worst thing to happen to one of my pcs. I had an event where I spilled water into an open case pc while it was running, I saw a spark in the back of the gpu and immediately unplugged the machine and left it for a few days to dry. Reminder that FSR 3.1 and non AI based upscalers could have worked, just look at Ghost of Tsushima, FSR 3.1 works great in that game. But developers like CD Project Red were bribed by Nvidia to purposely botch the implementation of it in their games by giving it bad inputs resulting in it sometimes giving worse image quality than FSR 2.

https://www.servethehome.com/cheap-10gbe-realtek-rtl8127-nic-review/

Cheap 10GbE or 10Gbase-T has arrived with the Realtek RTL8127. Oftentimes, users have had to choose between the Marvell AQC107 and AQC113 families for low-cost 10Gbase-T or several used enterprise NICs from Broadcom and Intel. The data center NICs tend to have more capabilities and offloads, but power consumption is higher, and new pricing can easily be five times higher. Now, with the Realtek RTL8127, we have a 10Gbase-T solution that is already producing under $50 new NICs, which only use a PCIe Gen4 x1 lane and sip power at sub 2W for the chip and sub 3-4W for the board. Cheap 10Gbase-T is now attainable.

WE ARE SO BACK, 10Gbase-T /g/

Do you guys think that maybe by 2050 we'll have powerful enough graphics cards that will make it so developers can stop using shit like TAA, motion blur and upscalers so games can run and look properly? I like me some Cyberpunk 2077 and I've seen and heard people talk about how it is. I haven't even played it for a while but I'm wanting a 5070ti just for the path tracing and replaying it then. I'm not sure what else supports it, but so far it's only one game and it makes me wonder if I should bother shelling out the extra money just for it. Yeah other games might support it eventually, but the amount of new games I want to play become less and less. Well, AAA games at least which I imagine will be the ones that support it.

That GTA IV mod looks interesting too.
>>
>>107709830
At this rate I'm thinking by 2050 you'll just have to subscribe to something to play vidya so it won't matter. Sure technically there might be GPUs powerful enough to do that, but it won't matter to us because we won't be buying them.
>>
>>107709857
it seems really difficult for studios to do path tracing or insert rays into the lighting system unless the team is some super technically experienced/the unreal 5 does it automatically for them

they cant even manage HDR right.

>the amount of new games I want to play become less and less. Well, AAA games at least

when i see people say gaming today is worse i want to hit them. we have more amazing games than we've ever had. yeah the new fifa and black ops aren't good, but there's SO many good indie and AA games, and even some good AAA here and there.

Some people just like to complain or be pessimistic. Then you try to show them games like Look Outside or Silksong and then they'll just bitch about how it's not AAA graphics or some shit. They especially bitch if it's a more autistic/niche game. Anyway, the point is I don't really need to be able to do path tracing for those obviously.

Path tracing in games wasnt a thing until 2018 when 20xx gpus came out.
Before that it was used in games to bake textures which took hours depending on the scene, and movies ofc.

The issue implementing it is consoles cant do it so the monetary incentive question is "do we get airtime on digital foundry videos to compensate the dev time?". Works for cp and aw2, but most dont bother.

I bought a 9070xt from Amazon Warehouse but every game, no exception, crashes when Raytracing is so much as turned on in the settings.
The Performance and efficiency uplift from my 7800xt are nice, but if a game has raytracing in the menu (eg. FM23) it will not event boot into the menu and crash before I can default graphics into no raytracing.

Cannot find anything online about people having this problem. Only for specific games.

Have been installing older Drivers and turning off/uninstalling applications like MSI Afterburner and the like but it won't help.

Sapphire tells me to just return the card to Amazon, but I bought it for 590€ and prices are at 660€ for a new one.

Also used

I'm on an old R9 390X from 10 years ago whoch served me very well, but it's time for an upgrade.

Anything wrong with a 5060 ti 16GB?

I'm playing on 1080p 120hz, the gpu will be paired with my i5-11400, a B560 mobo and 16GB RAM. I know my mobo only supports PCIe 4.0, all the newer cars are 5.0 though; that's why I want to get a 16GB model to reduce the impact on the slower PCIe-link.
I'm willing to spend up to 450€.
I've only had AMD cards in the past, but I do a lot of work with Adobe products and especially 10bit color things, and AMD has been tricky with that every now and then. I hear NVIDIA deal well with these things, but any input on this in general?
Thanks.
