OC'd 5070 Ti can be roughly equal to a stock 5080. The OC headroom is pretty decent unlike with the 9070 XT that comes almost maxed from factory. Get an ASUS model or something else decent and you're set. Or it should be according to my research, I just ordered mine, take with a grain of salt.
Of course if you buy above MSRP the value goes down the shitter. 5080 is just bad value in comparison even at MSRP.

What pre built should I get, I've been browsing for awhile and with the price jumps going on I'm think of finally picking something up. I've checked some sites like new egg and I'm not too sure what them, I'll probably avoid them. Mostly gaming a small handful of modern games, the new RoboCop at max settings would be the jumping off point

I would buy that if I didn't care about CUDA and only cared about games, you save $50-150 and just werks. I also hear AMD has better Linux support in general and you will want to migrate there if you haven't yet. Some say the power consumption of the AMD GPUs is bad and there is almost no room for OC unlike with the 5070Ti though. You can get 9070XT without the 12VHP connector unlike with NVIDIA so that can be a plus if you're concerned about it.

if it's TI, ehhh it's like a 3060 vs a 5060 TI (like 1.5x better, but it's probably 2-3x more FPS because you got the ancient GPU debuff on new games).
I would egg you to buy the framework 32gb AMD AI max 385 for $800 (it did not get a price increase).
BUT... the 8050s it's 30% worse than the 5060 TI 16gb. But it's worth it if you have a shit CPU that needs an upgrade (BUT not worth it if you have money for a 5070 or 9070). And I think the amd AI max is cooler if it was in a handheld or laptop (but the price is starting like $2000).
But soldered ram, no FSR 4, shitty pcie port (if you plug a GPU into it, you could add a GPU, but it)
And the $800 price does not include a PSU, case, nvme, and 120mm fan.
But it's 100 watts which is neat so it's probably one of the most quiet PCs out there, and 32gb of fast quad channel ram is good (a 9800x3d is better though).

Not anon, but I am a terminal waitfag that won't buy new hardware until my shit stops working or I find a amazing GPU like a 3080 for less than $100 on facebook marketplace.
But I switched from leaning nvidia to AMD because I always thought that Nvidia is better on both windows and linux, but it turns out that nvidia is lacking on linux VR, and it seems like there is attention being made for gamer extensions / features on linux (mostly the bare minimum for server GPU stuff), both AMD and Nvidia neglect linux, you won't see Adrenalin or full NVCP on linux, but I see more progress on amd honestly, I don't see a good future for linux on nvidia.
I ain't buying VR yet, my 1660 ti can't handle it. But I am leaning towards linux (former win 7 refugee till 2019, used linux mint for a year or 2, then back to windows 11 because firefox was more buggier than win7) and I have not updated windows 11 for like 2 years (it's very comfy as it is), but if windows somehow forces an update / I need to reinstall, I might switch back to linux.
It's actually crazy, after a decade I have never seen AMD do anything better than nvidia except maybe undercutting nvidia by 10-20%, but linux VR? that's the first time I've actually seen amd not being absolutely worthless.

If you can wait 2 more years. They still can't get the Super refresh out the door if ever. And if the current situation continues or worsens by late 2028/early 2029 when the next generation comes out then I'd expect much higher MSRP and scalped prices than today.
I pulled the trigger since if I will buy it anyway by then next year the prices will be at least $100 more and for the shittiest model.

I don't know I just went from a 2080 super to a 9070xt. The little settings preloading thing isn't there and the AMD version of Nvidia broadcast isn't as nice, but that's about it. I do primarily use Linux, and only use Windows for the games that require it though. AMD support is miles ahead of Nvidia on Linux, if you're willing to take the penguin pill. I assume you're talking Windows drivers though.
