Intel, you might have some issues with demanding games. But still probably OK. On an AMD x3d, you're good. The large L3 cache makes reliance upon system ram less of an issue.

Looking for some input on the housefire 12v hpwr cables.
So my old mobo and psu setup, the 12v rail averaged a touch over 12 volts, and under load would dip down to 11.8 for the HVPWR, this new bobo does not have an explicit PCIe 12v sensor, but I'm assuming the 12v sensor should be accurate enough. As this new mobo has more power requirements, I'm wondering if my PSU is having a harder time spreading across this many cables, hence the initial voltage on the 12V being 11.9ish. Given that, should I be worried about the 11.7ish volts on the 12VHPWR sensors, since the "droop" is not as severe, as the initial voltage is lower?
It was my understanding that the melting cable does not specifically come from lower voltages, but instead comes from a substantial voltage loss due to resistance of a failing/incorrectly plugged in cable?

i spend everyday reading about monitors becsue the wait for this piece of shit is unbearable. I'm hoping to come across something that will free me from waiting for this shit
monitor companies are fucking gay
this things has been out for like 2 months already everywhere in the world and its "out" in the us but i can't even tell because even though i search about it daily no one else is mentioning how unavailable it is so it honestly feels like i'm just not in the know and im on the wrong page or something, or americans just dont want this monitor or theyre able to get it from somewhere else i don't even know

My only hope is that it's so unavailable because they are busy fixing all the grey banding issues, so that byt the time it's actually available that is a thing of the past.
I think gigbyte was supposed to release this since like septemeber too or earlier, wtf is going on i need a fucking monitor already

I admit, I panic bought and when I found that RAM kit at microcenter for the price it was (probably should've been $480-550) I couldn't hold out any longer.

I was trying to wait for next gen intel or next gen Ryzen in 2026, instead I panicked on a 9800X3D, 2x24GB DDR5, and a 4TB NVMe drive and 22TB HDD.

Every component except the motherboard and CPU have gone up, the RAM by basically double, the NVMe drive by $40-100, the HDD by $50-100, and I expect the storage to go up further in 2026 along with the RAM continuing to rise.

These random prebuilts from non big companies always have QC issues because they hotswap parts without testing. For instance they throw a 5070ti in a Mobo with ancient bios that has problems with PCIE5. Normie is going to return it because it doesn't POST.

Think this is the last time I let 4chan influence my buying decision, never had this shit with Intel. Literally minute and a half POST/reboot times. Not into my OS, I'm not a retarded cavefaggot luddite like some niggers are, I'm talking about rebooting and entering the BIOS not even Winblows. Once the POST/memory training is done everything else loads up fast but the total cold boot time is insufferably bad.

I'm totally at a loss for words. Never have I ever encountered such a retarded out of box state on a previous PC build. This is insanity. Is this what late stage enshittification looks like? I assume I can go nuts and tweak 30 fucking things to try and speed this up, but wow. What a miserable default. I'm not even running meme RAM speeds or anything. Not even using 4 DIMMs.

Guys, just keep your old PC.
Being a few generations old is fine.
Zen 5/DDR5 clearly ain't it.
>>
>>107765425
You're doing something wrong, or something in the PC is wrong. 9800x3d/4080 Super and my boot times, cold, are like 20 seconds.

Failing to identify the issue, you can always go into bios and enable fastboot. That skips memory training. But, I suspect something else is going on.

If you'd like, I can offer some suggestions that can help speed things up. Unless you were only here for one post to vent.

thats the driver loading in before the desktop is ready. probably has to do with load order of your compositor. its nothing to worry about if everything works. on windows it would be a black screen until it loads the basic display driver or real driver.

Did you completely remove the old drivers? Can you get DDU up and running? Do that after you download the latest drivers. Run DDU and load the new driver with internet disabled.

He already said he didn't enable EXPO or anything, so he wouldn't know if it's starting bios fresh each time... with an initial memory train. Next would be to update bios. Early AM5 motherboards were notoriously long to post, which has been addressed. But, your suggestion would be next on the list.

If you wanna resolve all the detail of 4k a 55" tv is peak gaming since you need 3,5-4feet distance to resolve the detail
rendering 4k on 27"/32" you will have a hard time resolving all the detail, text will look ridiculously better up close and less aliasing and all that shit yes, but for content and gaymen you will actually have a hard time resolving detail
did TVs unironically win?

55" is not a tv size, in fact, a monitor size, unless you are a boomer that watches low res upscaled slop
to go for a tv and 4k, you need to get giant fuck huger, how far away do you wanna sit?

The number of shitposts from people who don't actually have a ventus is infinitely higher than those who do.
Gigabyte can have issues too, but I personally consider both of them more reliable than PNY.
Going back to the point of compromises, these things are consumables, treat it well, repaste it if you need to down the line and go from there.
If you were planning on penny pinching this much and are worried about a card burning out, you never should run it at a higher clock or consider/worry about bios flashing.

I'm adding these newlines for emphasis.

If you only pay attention to one thing, please let it be this:
None of these prices are going to improve. Maybe there is a chance that the card you want will come back in stock for a couple hours, but you can't guarantee you will be in a time and a place where you can even buy it. If your goal is to actually upgrade to something you are going to have to compromise and I can tell you with great certainty the compromises are going to get worse and worse the longer you delay given the current situation.

For whatever it's worth I have a 5090 ventus coming in the next week or two, partly because that's all I could find at vaguely MSRP, but also after looking into the cooling concerns they didn't seem super well-founded.
As far as which I have had gigabyte cards before this, I would maybe edge them out slightly but I'm not super familiar with the leaking issues, I would see if any other anons chime in, or alternatively focus on which has better warranty, something I have personally had issues with gigabyte on in the past.
>>
>>107766301
Gigabyte thermal goo issues are overblown. It actually works really well and keeps the components cool. It's only an issue if you got a card from launch month and are using it in a vertical mount position
The Ventus complaints are justified. MSI cheaper out on the number of heat pipes on the Ventus and it resulted in a card that needs to run it's fans near max rpms to keep it just under the throttling point. Just check out techpowerup's 5070ti ventus review if you doubt me

tldr; if it depends on the USB port.

My motherboard for example limits video output over the USB-C ports to 4k60hz, even though there is technically enough bandwidth to allow 4k120hz with DSC. But not all motherboards limit you, so it would just depend on the device that is supplying the USB-C alternate mode connection.

But theoretically, if you had a USB-C to HDMI 2.1 active adapter and your USB-C port supports the proper output resolution/frame rate, there is no reason it wouldn't work.

People do mention them AMDrones just shout louder
It's Intel's own fault for losing so much trust with their oxidation/microcode shenanigans
Arrow Lake's disaster launch didn't help either
All you can do is sit back and wait for Nova Lake now, intelboomers are never going to be satisfied with AMD CPU eccentricities.

> Is this what late stage enshittification looks like?
AMD's always been like this for decades. But the people on it will help to deal with some of those issues. s

Have the paradigms changed for anyone else lately?
I used to buy middle grade hardware and try and overclock/push the limits to the extreme, but now I instead buy high-end hardware and under clock/undervolt to closer performance of a step or two down, but add substantially lower temperatures and energy.

Even if now may be one of the worst possible times to upgrade RAM, what is the best current option for 64GB of DDR4 on a slightly aging motherboard? I can't go with anything better but I also don't think I'll be able to survive on my current 32GB for the next few years until I can do a proper full new build.

See what's available on the used market, 3200 cl14 or 3600 cl16 is best for zen 3. What do you need the 64gb for anyway? 32gb is still perfectly fine desu.

any 2x32 3200+ MHz kit
4x16 might give you some issues, because those could be using 8gbit ICs and then you would be on quad rank
>>
>>107767108
You need to get HWInfo and compare the GPU core clock vs the GPU core's effective clock to make sure your undervolting isn't causing clock stretching.
If your undervolt is too aggressive, the GPU will automatically down clock its boost frequency to run it stably.

IDK for Radeoon cards, but you don't want the difference between GPU boost clock and its effective clock to be greater than 15~20MHz for NVIDIA cards.

I use my machine for professional rendering/video work that is already starting to bump up on the edge of my current 32GB, and I'm worried about the next few years as the demands on my machine continue to get worse rather than better.

>>107767161
I actually already explored 4x16 as an option, and the only seller that still had my current kit in stock post-shortages was a typical Chinese scam seller that repackaged a different kit in a fake reprinted box that I'm currently getting a refund for.

>>
>>107767173
buying a 4x16 kit could still save you some money compared to 2x32, at least where I'm at they've generally been cheaper. Just gotta make sure it's single rank sticks for the former and dual rank sticks for the latter.
>>
>>107767203
Fuck. What do?
>>
>>107767194
I guess if it wasn't, it would let you know
>>
>>107767164
i don't think radeon cards clock stretch when undervolting, they just crash
clock stretching on AMD products happen when the delivered voltage undershoots the target voltage, like if you're applying a manual VRM voltage offset on your motherboard
at least that's been my experience with the 6800 XT and 9070 XT, they either work, and perform better, or they don't
>>107767173
any 2x32 kit is honestly fine, new or used
just buy the first thing you can find for a reasonable price
RAM is durable and any IC they can put into a 2x32 kit is going to clock decently well

5070 ti or 9070 xt for 1440p gaming? Upgrading from 2070 super and wanna future proof relatively hard. 9070 xt is 580 from microcenter, 5070 ti is 750. steam uses heavy compression to shrink their downloads so third worlders can get their games faster
