Microsoft Office is now Microsoft 365 Copilot app

https://x.com/AskPerplexity/status/2008200618004095195
>>
LibrePilot when?
>>
This is the number one reason why not to trust anything "live service", because it can be ruined at any time.
I want my programs to be stagnant and dead.
>>
This is fraud, right? This is pretty cut and dry accounting fraud.
>>
>>107771841
It already wasn't called office iirc, it was called microsoft 365 or something. It sounds retarded, but my mother consistently calls office microsoft despite being a boomer who doesn't know about this renaming. She'll correct herself to word afterwards because she's learned that otherwise I don't know what she's talking about, but I think with her fellow boomers this conflation is the default and expected.
>>
>>107771841
Year of LibreOffice?
>>
>>107771926
When is /g/ going to get over LibreOffice? LibreOffice is the new OpenOffice. You just look old and casual still recommending it. Every single person who knows what they're doing these days use OnlyOffice or simply Google Docs.

LibreOffice
OpenOffice
OnlyOffice
FreeOffice (picrel)
Google Docs
Or just pirate MS Office (2016 or earlier)

I also use Latex as a Word/Powerpoint replacement but it depends on your >usecase
>>
>>107771936
>Google Docs

Not only does it share many of the same problems as Microsoft 365 Copilot App™, being thoroughly infused with Gemini instead of Copilot, but unlike Office you get no direct access to the source file and manually have to export the document to another format if you want to keep it in case Google later decides to ban your account for whatever reason.

No matter how much you hate Microsoft, you don#t hate them enough.

I am genuinely impressed how close the UI is to Microsoft Office but it took me less than 60 seconds to find missing functionality in the Excel clone and also it would appear the entire thing is running inside Chromium 108. So I wouldn't use it to open untrusted files from the internet.

If you Google this, there are several articles saying "Microsoft didn't really rename Office", and point out that the Office that's being referred to is some old app.

If anything, this shows a huge disconnect that exists between departments in the organization. Did the marketing or exec guy in charge of rolling this out not think that the verbiage 'formally Office' might confuse people, as MS Office is probably the second most well known Microsoft product outside of Windows (hell, it might be number 1).

How many people actually laid eyes on this and said it might confuse the consumer? How many suggestions to change it were shot down?

It might be a small thing, but it's a terrible look. It comes off as being more excited to shove AI everywhere possible than worrying about the end-user, which is not great.

They also renamed the Remote Desktop mobile app to... the "Windows" app while offering nothing else except Remote Desktop functionality
Is the head jeet in charge of naming every product they have?

I have a valid license for Office 2019, so I'm going to continue using that, in a VM if necessary, until some other set of file format become entrenched, if ever.

It costs a lot of money to keep Tay locked up.
>>
>>107773729
No idea about 2016 but that license should work with 2019 too. But as other anons have pointed out, 2019 will try to get you to put everything into OneDrive instead of your local filesystem.

How to make your massive AI bet seem worth it for the board and investors.
Just convert existing profitable projects into AI ones.

Sure, let's become utterly dependent on the generosity of some company for our office suite, and hell, introduce a hard dependency on being online, too!

You are either a troll, a shill, or a retard. Probably some combination thereof.
>>
>>107771936
How is LibreOffice Calc nowadays compared to Excel for stuff like lambdas (custom functions)?
>>
>>107792550
how come they havent renamed windows to copilot yet
imagine the stockholder income when they hear that 97% of the world uses copilot
>>
>>107771841
This is so fucking stupid its not even comical
They so desperately want to prop up AI that they're just changing everything to "copilot" so they can lie and say that 5 billion devices run jav--i mean copilot.

There are two ways companies can make money: they can actually earn money by selling things, or they can sell shares to investors. Investors are retards who will invest in anything that says "AI" on it, so if you make your company look like you're doing lots of AI stuff, you can charge a lot more money for your shares, and make yourself richer.

>I mean they have to see some monetary increase in return eventually from AI right?
That time will only come when investors stop giving Microsoft money. The bubble will last as long as the grift does.

I mean technically even 2019/2021/2024 and even O365 can exclude OneDrive if you use the Office Deployment tool and exclude it in the XML file. Easiest way to generate that file is the “Office Customization Tool” on Microsoft’s website where you can just select what you want included or excluded on any install. Then use MAS to activate it.

I have office 2012 on my windows 7 PCs and 2021 installed using massgrave on a windows 10 PC, Ive also had a go using every version up to latest one as they upgrade every year at work. Word is word and honestly functionally the same. Excel has huge differences before and after 2021, better calculation and charting tools, more intuitive. 2012 excel is honestly kinda frustrating. Powerpoint is mostly the same except better transitions. Never been pestered for one drive on the massgrave install but I've also permanently removed one drive functionality from windows altogether. Using Chris Titus tool.

If you use excel get a newer one, for anything else get whatever you like it won't matter.

That's true for most of 4chan, but /g/ is quite clearly full of clueless students. You can tell from the obvious insecurity of so many posters here.
>>
>>107771841
So how exactly do they clear this legally? Seems like a lot of sensitive information that microsoft will be automatically scanning into their AI database.
Seems like a massive fucking legal issue.
>they promise that doesn't happen
lol
>>
>>107794259
Because it isn't actually the "ai" copilot.
They just want to say "we have 5 trillion copilot users" or whatever while failing to mention they're including normal office and onedrive users who don't actually interact with the LLM.
It's for shareholders to sleep at night in the short term.
>>
>>107786860
It's because every single one thinks they are a demigod on Earth.
>>
>>107794175
Unless you can point to where they filed with the SEC to sell shares, the companies in question do not earn a cent from shares being sold. It’s amazing how few people understand this
>>
>>107774433
This is obviously a bait. Cars aren't repairable by owners anymore, a custom screw would be the least of the problems.
