So is software solved or not I'm getting mixed signals folks.
>>1077851784.5 is unironically good. The models are improving more or less along the trajectories given by more moderate experts. I think we are actually structurally fucked at this point but for a small percentage of specialized experts and maybe the next generation of more elite graduates to replace them.Alternatively it plateaus and crashes and burns when the energy bill finally comes due and productivity gains, while real, cannot justify the expense.
>have work machine configuration issues>reach out to jeet help desk to fix it>"good morning saar please do steps xyz">do them it still doesn't fix anything at all>"oh ok can I close the ticket now or is there any other problems"
>>107785178Opus 4.5 is a god sent but you still have to do manual PR review if you don't want to refactor a metric ton of useless shit an hour later. It loves creating 100 lines+ files for a 40 line feature

My coworker caught me playing gacha in my cubicle
>>107785636>>"oh ok can I close the ticket now or is there any other problems"I've had this exact same experience, except they close the ticket despite me saying the issue wasn't resolvedOver 6 months... 6+ months of different jeets closing it, me re-opening it, and them passing it off to another jeet who does the exact same thing like its a game of hot potatoThe problem was some LDAP rule that automatically kept removing me from the on-call schedule on a regular cadence, so I'd be scheduled a few weeks out, and then removed forcing some other coworker to take my place. Now I didnt have a problem with this because thats less work for me but my boss (also a jeet) wanted me to open a ticket to get it resolved and it never did because they were that incompetent. After 6 months, they laid me and 300+ others off for... take a wild guess... a massive billion dollar contract for more incompetent jeets employed by AccentureI'm employed now by a much better company that doesn't use jeets but they are getting way too into AI and telling people to get AI to help them with work

Here’s my situation. How would you get out of this pickle that I’m in?>28 years old>Work what’s meant to be a low stress job but end up stressing myself the fuck out. Mostly my fault.>My skills have stagnated since working here 4 years. Am feeling behind the curve.>Haven’t kept up personal projects.>Didn’t make the correct moves and didn’t keep up the job search>Company going to shit. Somehow burnt out and bored as fuck.>No companies are getting back to me on job search.Apart from taking a chill pill and grinding leetcode and projects. How else would you suggest I get out of this predicament? I’m walking up early everyday for months working through this so am putting in work (12 hour days roughly). I’m keen to stay in tech cause it’s cool.
I might be promoted to techleadIt will most likely be a "ceremonial office" and I won't have a real say in anything. I will have to work harder, be present in more meetings, and keep memorizing shit so I will be able to answer technical questions quickly during meetings.

$150k a year in nyc is good, guys?
>>107788135It's alright if you're starting out. That's probably about the minimum I would try to live off of if I were in NYC. You'll be better off than the financially irresponsible 5-figure normies who want to live in the city so badly that they're putting 75% of their paycheck towards rent, but $150k in NYC is not gonna be like, living it up all the time or anything.
>>107787385this happened to me due to attrition but I at least managed to threaten them into a sizable raise. I really miss the days when people would get stuck and I could help them when they're in the middle of things and make suggestions. Now I get slop thrown at me that I have to somehow review and be aware of for when it inevitably breaks later

I'm moved into our new office building on the other campus now, and decided to try the local cafeteria. I ordered a basic sandwich... and it was fucking awful. Like... really bad. it was twice as expensive as the sandwiches on the other campus, half the size, and it just wasn't even good... I'm so disappointed, might quit over this.

>>107788843Sucks. Maybe try other things to confirm it wasn't just that specific place or just a bad day
>>107789767It's the cafeteria in building #9. Not every building has a cafe. In that campus, 4, 6, and 9 do. Each one has multiple stands, each stand serving different types of food. 9 has the best in my opinion. 6 is decent as well (it has steaks), and 4 has the knockoff Chipotle Mexican food stand. It's alright, but kind of flavorless compared to real Chipotle. 9 has the best grill though, and also one that serves seafood stuff. It also has the best sandwich stand.
>>107789777Yeah, not everything was open today since it's just after the holidays. There is an Asian food stand there that I'll have to try, but I need to look at the menu ahead of time. There's also a different Mexican place that seems like it might be alright. Also Poke bowls, but I'm not a huge fan of those. There's no burger place in that cafeteria though, which is annoying. Have to walk a little further.

My manager has been increasing the scope of our job in such a "well nothing we can do" type way and it's starting to piss me off. For example (hey don't look at me I joined this job and it was already like this), all of our requests were done via email and we were looking on making a ticketing system, that's fine. But now our big man wants "hey you know what, we should also include supporting X,Y,Z" (even though it doesn't really make sense to include that type of support here) then we have a separate ticketing system that the company uses for IT related affairs (we're not IT) that I get tickets from (usually mistakenly because somehow I always get VPN related shit if they can't use our software). Then big boss is like "hey, why don't we also include a section so we can have our users ask for training" (I'm already smacking my head because I don't want to be even more responsible for knowing the ins and outs of their work and then always having to catch myself going "oh it's possible, you just can't do it because it's against our policy"). My manager's reaction to all this is just "welp" and it's annoying the shit outta me. I don't mind helping the team, but they're intentionally putting attention and spotlight on our team (really just me) and it's just ass cheeks. Like if we include this, now I have to monitor>Email because of course people are still going to fucking email.>Ticketing System 1>Our Ticketing System 2>Scheduling training calls.compared to just Email and Ticketing System 1. what are the odds that i'm getting fired?here's the context, i work for a company doing network infraestructure jobs to offiice buildings, last month i was told to go check the cables in one office that was being remodelled and there was a bunch of network cables hanging from the ceiling into an horizontal conduit, i told my supervisor that they were most likely used and that they should be covered with a vertical conduit by the civil engineers since we don't deal with that, today he told me to look up for three (3) ethernet ports and cut the rest except other 3 so that in total there were only 6 cables hanging from the ceiling for the civil engineers to cover, i did just that and many users reported having no internet, at first i thought it was my collegue who unplugged something from the switch but it turned out that i cut off the ethernet cable for about 7 workstations, each with 3 ethernet cables each (in total i trimmed 32 cables so there was a lot of unused stuff as well)i was told that i had to fix that today no matter what and that it was not feasible to route new cables, i only noticed that these cables went through the conduit to the workstations in the neighboring workspace rather than going from the ceiling directly to each port after the fact (the norm for this building in particular is that all cables must go through a fake ceiling).i'm patching this by making female ports in each side of the cut and fusing the gap with a regular cable, i have to do both the RJ45s and the female ports and check if there is connection on the switch later and i can't leave until i'm done.

I don't even really feel like I have senior skills and I feel so fraud because this place is so disorganized.
>>107798019You are a fraud but on the job market you're a senior dev now.
>>107798029>nowWe'll see lol
>>107798066Everything will be diejobu.
>>107798085yeah....
i'm actually looking forward to being laid offi have enough money to live comfortably for at least 5 yearsi'll live that long and then some and then kms
Any boomers here? I am 35yo and when I log off at the end of the workday I start seeing blurry at distance. Is my eyesight getting worse? I don't want to wear glasses fuck. Can I recover or am I doomed? How can people just do this work 8h/day for 40+ years???
>>107798192>people just do this work 8h/day for 40+ years???nobody does, remember most of this shit is NEWthat's why people make so much so they can retire before their expiration dateif you don't you're fucked
>>107798192Take carotenoids. They don't reverse eye aging but they slow it down.
>>107798192Does anyone really code for 8 hours a day? My average is like 3 or 4 hours. I'm 37, but I always was slightly nearsighted. Got LASEK at 30 and that fixed it, but maybe I shouldn't have had that particular laser surgery, do some research if you decide to go for it.
>>107798298if it's not coding I am still looking at the computer though, like now shitposting
So I see anons on here saying 2026 is the year AI gets good enough to truly replace the average human developer. But have you guys seen Claude Plays Pokemon? They're using Opus 4.5 and it's a total fucking retard at playing Pokemon Red. I just have a hard time believing that an AI that doesn't have the general intelligence to play pokemon can fully replace a human dev.Maybe the AI bubble is gonna pop in 2026...
yeah and I didn't think AI would ever make good hentai. guess what i was wrong.but fuck my pussy hole there's so much slop out there from esls that I can't even find the good shit.
>>107798399I've been using claude because I was psyopped into thinking it's better at coding/tech than chatgptbut I threw a problem at it for the entire day, at the end of which I said summarize what we've done in a text file which I fed to openai and it solved it in one shotI think it's just not that good
>>107798192There's a 20/20/20 or something like that rule out there. For every 20 mins looking at something close, look at something 20+ meters away for 20 seconds. You have muscles that focus your eye, if you don't use it you loose it.>>107798479Which is the optimum coding AI changes every 3 months.
I want to be buried with my 5 million dollars and then have some type of post mortem, esoteric scavenger hunt for people to dig me up.
>>107798597WE AREEEE WE AREEEEEEEE ON THE CRUISE WE AREEEEE
I voted for this
>>107798678I sleep.
>>107788202They are baiting me this promotion because I wanted to move to a different more lucrative team. I don't trust them on this completely. They might drag me out and eventually call off the offer.
>>107785091Began a new job this week, helpdesk just to pay the bills. Received a dev level 2 jobs offer roughly a week or two after this. All I'm seeing at this helpdesk support job is Windows 10 VMs running archaic looking jank fest software in FUCKING Internet Explorer.Omg, why is every company like this? What is with every .NET shop producing shit that looks like a 2003 MS Office app toolbar?I was debating holding onto this one but bros, idk. Not even my manager knows most of this shit either. It's chill in a way but idk, I'm getting red flags already. Onboarding is me going through a few PDFs and most parts of this software crash whenever used.Man, how do they convince businesses to buy this shit lmao
>>107788135You could only pay me $200k to move back to NYC. Even then, I didn't even live in Manhattan.
why did everyone say arena rush isn't a real category. sounds like a normal categotry to me and not "any % and no major glitches, except for these couple major glitches, but also we do these things which aren't strictly needed but it's not as fun to skip them"
i want a bullet up my ass and a dick in my head
>>107796525anon, majority of C-levels are useless retards. their job is to manage managers, and to make sure things keep working.>>107797113I mean, your boss will blame you, but you made a mistake and you'll fix it.I don't get why you didn't test those cables or ask for information about them though>>107798192>when I log off at the end of the workday I start seeing blurry at distancecould be the fact that you are tired.but you should be doing eye exercises. one works like this (IIRC): look at a remote object from your window for 20-30 seconds, then look at a close object (like the corner of your screen) for 20-30 seconds. repeat a couple of times. do this every 30 minutes.
>new manager>instead of a meeting once every 2 weeks we are having daily scrums>every single person in the group has to tell her what they worked on yesterday and what they plan to work on today>every single day>I just sit there listening to people drone on>"So I logged in, had this meeting. Then I did emails. Then Jason called for help. Then this. I did that. Another meeting"what is the pointno seriously why do I need to do this every single fucking dayis this what scrum masters do? What is this clown shit
