So is software solved or not I'm getting mixed signals folks.
>>1077851784.5 is unironically good. The models are improving more or less along the trajectories given by more moderate experts. I think we are actually structurally fucked at this point but for a small percentage of specialized experts and maybe the next generation of more elite graduates to replace them.Alternatively it plateaus and crashes and burns when the energy bill finally comes due and productivity gains, while real, cannot justify the expense.
>have work machine configuration issues>reach out to jeet help desk to fix it>"good morning saar please do steps xyz">do them it still doesn't fix anything at all>"oh ok can I close the ticket now or is there any other problems"
>>107785178Opus 4.5 is a god sent but you still have to do manual PR review if you don't want to refactor a metric ton of useless shit an hour later. It loves creating 100 lines+ files for a 40 line feature

My coworker caught me playing gacha in my cubicle
>>107785636>>"oh ok can I close the ticket now or is there any other problems"I've had this exact same experience, except they close the ticket despite me saying the issue wasn't resolvedOver 6 months... 6+ months of different jeets closing it, me re-opening it, and them passing it off to another jeet who does the exact same thing like its a game of hot potatoThe problem was some LDAP rule that automatically kept removing me from the on-call schedule on a regular cadence, so I'd be scheduled a few weeks out, and then removed forcing some other coworker to take my place. Now I didnt have a problem with this because thats less work for me but my boss (also a jeet) wanted me to open a ticket to get it resolved and it never did because they were that incompetent. After 6 months, they laid me and 300+ others off for... take a wild guess... a massive billion dollar contract for more incompetent jeets employed by AccentureI'm employed now by a much better company that doesn't use jeets but they are getting way too into AI and telling people to get AI to help them with work

Here’s my situation. How would you get out of this pickle that I’m in?>28 years old>Work what’s meant to be a low stress job but end up stressing myself the fuck out. Mostly my fault.>My skills have stagnated since working here 4 years. Am feeling behind the curve.>Haven’t kept up personal projects.>Didn’t make the correct moves and didn’t keep up the job search>Company going to shit. Somehow burnt out and bored as fuck.>No companies are getting back to me on job search.Apart from taking a chill pill and grinding leetcode and projects. How else would you suggest I get out of this predicament? I’m walking up early everyday for months working through this so am putting in work (12 hour days roughly). I’m keen to stay in tech cause it’s cool.
I might be promoted to techleadIt will most likely be a "ceremonial office" and I won't have a real say in anything. I will have to work harder, be present in more meetings, and keep memorizing shit so I will be able to answer technical questions quickly during meetings.

$150k a year in nyc is good, guys?
>>107788135It's alright if you're starting out. That's probably about the minimum I would try to live off of if I were in NYC. You'll be better off than the financially irresponsible 5-figure normies who want to live in the city so badly that they're putting 75% of their paycheck towards rent, but $150k in NYC is not gonna be like, living it up all the time or anything.
>>107787385this happened to me due to attrition but I at least managed to threaten them into a sizable raise. I really miss the days when people would get stuck and I could help them when they're in the middle of things and make suggestions. Now I get slop thrown at me that I have to somehow review and be aware of for when it inevitably breaks later

I'm moved into our new office building on the other campus now, and decided to try the local cafeteria. I ordered a basic sandwich... and it was fucking awful. Like... really bad. it was twice as expensive as the sandwiches on the other campus, half the size, and it just wasn't even good... I'm so disappointed, might quit over this.

>>107788843Sucks. Maybe try other things to confirm it wasn't just that specific place or just a bad day
>>107789767It's the cafeteria in building #9. Not every building has a cafe. In that campus, 4, 6, and 9 do. Each one has multiple stands, each stand serving different types of food. 9 has the best in my opinion. 6 is decent as well (it has steaks), and 4 has the knockoff Chipotle Mexican food stand. It's alright, but kind of flavorless compared to real Chipotle. 9 has the best grill though, and also one that serves seafood stuff. It also has the best sandwich stand.
>>107789777Yeah, not everything was open today since it's just after the holidays. There is an Asian food stand there that I'll have to try, but I need to look at the menu ahead of time. There's also a different Mexican place that seems like it might be alright. Also Poke bowls, but I'm not a huge fan of those. There's no burger place in that cafeteria though, which is annoying. Have to walk a little further.

My manager has been increasing the scope of our job in such a "well nothing we can do" type way and it's starting to piss me off. For example (hey don't look at me I joined this job and it was already like this), all of our requests were done via email and we were looking on making a ticketing system, that's fine. But now our big man wants "hey you know what, we should also include supporting X,Y,Z" (even though it doesn't really make sense to include that type of support here) then we have a separate ticketing system that the company uses for IT related affairs (we're not IT) that I get tickets from (usually mistakenly because somehow I always get VPN related shit if they can't use our software). Then big boss is like "hey, why don't we also include a section so we can have our users ask for training" (I'm already smacking my head because I don't want to be even more responsible for knowing the ins and outs of their work and then always having to catch myself going "oh it's possible, you just can't do it because it's against our policy"). My manager's reaction to all this is just "welp" and it's annoying the shit outta me. I don't mind helping the team, but they're intentionally putting attention and spotlight on our team (really just me) and it's just ass cheeks. Like if we include this, now I have to monitor>Email because of course people are still going to fucking email.>Ticketing System 1>Our Ticketing System 2>Scheduling training calls.compared to just Email and Ticketing System 1. what are the odds that i'm getting fired?here's the context, i work for a company doing network infraestructure jobs to offiice buildings, last month i was told to go check the cables in one office that was being remodelled and there was a bunch of network cables hanging from the ceiling into an horizontal conduit, i told my supervisor that they were most likely used and that they should be covered with a vertical conduit by the civil engineers since we don't deal with that, today he told me to look up for three (3) ethernet ports and cut the rest except other 3 so that in total there were only 6 cables hanging from the ceiling for the civil engineers to cover, i did just that and many users reported having no internet, at first i thought it was my collegue who unplugged something from the switch but it turned out that i cut off the ethernet cable for about 7 workstations, each with 3 ethernet cables each (in total i trimmed 32 cables so there was a lot of unused stuff as well)i was told that i had to fix that today no matter what and that it was not feasible to route new cables, i only noticed that these cables went through the conduit to the workstations in the neighboring workspace rather than going from the ceiling directly to each port after the fact (the norm for this building in particular is that all cables must go through a fake ceiling).i'm patching this by making female ports in each side of the cut and fusing the gap with a regular cable, i have to do both the RJ45s and the female ports and check if there is connection on the switch later and i can't leave until i'm done.

They're using Opus 4.5 and it's a total fucking retard at playing Pokemon Red. My voice is autistic and I'm short and overweight. am starting a comp sci major next year, I already have all gen eds done so it'll be nothing but those classes. I know surface level DSA and 2 algorithms well, I am really good at python, I'm learning JS in TOP. I made a few things in rust with video game modding, but I used AI to tell me what to look for/do make it since I couldn't just vibe code it and didn't know what I was doing. I thought I wasn't confident and didn't have projects, but I think that's because I might have low testosterone and I have to jog every single morning to feel happy. In Harry Potter, Goblet of Fire, the future was already being told. The gifted tech wizard, Harry, and his less intelligent IT Helpdesk wizard friend, Ron, attended formal bootcamp training at the local college. Be a living, breathing human, and you're eligible to attend! This program would span several years, seeing these two goofballs tinker-tranny with all aspects of the school's infrastructure. Ron almost managed to get himself killed fucking with ethernet cables in year 1 (Philosopher Stone).Once the techies reached pubescence, the college staff decided a dance party for the geek squad would be amusing. Remember, this was all drafted pre-2005. Now the tech wizard had carnal desires for the elegant, modest, and intelligent asian classmate - Cho. Unfortunately for Harry, there was a lot of competition and he lost to another white tech guru (Cedric) getting in line first. It's worth noting Cedric was a lot less awkward, and more refined than Harry. Regardless, Cho undoubtedly possessed attraction both white men, but her values restrained her from slutting out like some careless, self-preservationless hufflepuff peer (smelly, dumb, or slampig social science major irl). Now Ron had an unrealizable fantasy to be with a mature blonde - Fleur. He held neither the social finess, nor the financial backings, ambition, will, etc etc etc to actualize his passions. With work, he likely could have, but chose to sulk like a incel chud. How familiar to today.Being a techfag is full of curious questions. Are we autistic because we've studied logic gates, logic patterns, and logic representations? Or, because we want to study this, we are autistic? We can envision the beauty we want offline, but actualizing it proves challenging...So who did Harry and Ron end up with at the geek squad dance party? ... Yes ... that's right. It was all predicted pre-2005.Do with this information what you will.

We’ve all lived the nightmare. A new developer shows up at work, and you try to be welcoming, but he can’t seem to get up to speed; the questions he asks reveal basic ignorance; and his work, when it finally emerges, is so kludgey that it ultimately must be rewritten from scratch by more competent people. And yet his interviewers—and/or the HR department, if your company has been infested by that bureaucratic parasite—swear that they only hire above-average/A-level/top-1% people. It’s a big problem, especially now. There’s a boom on. I get harassing emails from recruiters every day. Everyone’s desperate to hire developers…but developers are not fungible. A great coder can easily be 50 times more productive than a mediocre one, while bad ones ultimately have negative productivity. Hiring one is a terrible mistake for any organization; for a startup, it can be a catastrophic company-killer. So how can it happen so often?Like many of the hangovers that haunt modern software engineering, this is ultimately mostly Microsoft’s fault. Back when they were the evil empire where everyone secretly wanted to work, they were famous for their “brain-teaser” interview questions – Why are manhole covers round? – and, of course, they asked new university graduates about computer science theory; “Write me a binary search.”So what should a real interview consist of? Let me offer a humble proposal: don’t interview anyone who hasn’t accomplished anything. Ever. There is no excuse for software developers who don’t have a site, app, or service they can point to and say, “I did this, all by myself!” in a world where Google App Engine and Amazon Web Services have free service tiers, and it costs all of $25 to register as an Android developer and publish an app on the Android Market.

Don't have to make nearly as many corrections. by correction, I mean highlighting the line, Cmd+L to paste it into cursor chat and tell it what it did wrong.Depending on the complexity of the change, it could potentially get things right on the 3rd try. My real friends know they could say whatever in front of me and I'd just laugh. But everyone else I meet is like >is he gay? better not say anything to offend himkek idk how to put out a better energy, I think I just don't chitchat enough
damn are you gay? that sounded hella gay
Posting this while standing up in my cubicle because I couldn't hold in my spicy poop until I came back home and now I can't sit down for 5 more minutes>>107807842>Music>BJJI read somewhere that men don't actually form friendships, they just have people they like doing things with. This explains why my only friends left are the ones I do stuff with beyond just enjoying their presence (namely CS and Music (and drugs sometimes as the secondary binder))I'm jealous of my wife's ability to just sit on a couch and talk with her friend about bullshit for 6 hours straight>>107807932Seconding the other anon. Are you a fag? Who cares so much about fags that they have intrusive thoughts about someone being a fag? Who cares so much about fags that you NEED to make fun of them in the office? Are you a closeted homo?
i mean now i think YOU're a closet fag too
>>107807840nta >I mean this shit's so confusing. I'm not the product owner my boss isif he hasn't made you responsible, it's not your problem>Maybe a good boy employee would just take the initiative but at this point I'm just tired senpai.why the fuck would you do that lmao
I had a dream that someone on /v/ distributed a really cool battle royale game that we all played together and it uploaded everyone's documents folder to a public Github repository
>>107807513You know what's funny faggot, I actually did get 2 job offers in the same week and am not lying.I've been looking for a solid 2 months so far.Last year I kept applying like hell for a year and a half while I had my last dev job.As soon as the new year hit, boom, we were good.Nice try though, you sound miserable.
How much xp do I need before they stop asking me leetcode questions?
I tried the Asian food place at the cafeteria near my new office, and it was... pretty good! It's of course basically just mall-tier Chinese food (orange chicken and rice), but it's better than that god awful sandwich I had the other day.I'm still going to quit probably though.
My company is rumored to be having layoffs later this month and I privately told my manager that if he's gotta cut someone I wouldn't really mind
>>107808907>doubles down lying>double spacing between every senternce>thumbs through the book of cope and pulls the "I'm going to psychoanalyze you based on this hallucination I just had" card out
>>107807932It helps to remember that you can't be friends with literally anyone, it's normal if you talk to someone and there's no rapport, that's just how it works. But you need a context where you see the same people over and over without you seeking them out.
>>107807513More so, no, I am not underqualfied. I can do this job easily. It's just I don't think it's worth the hassle for how jank its going to be. I wanted a chill second job. Not gonna happen with this one imo
>>107809013Nice bot bitch
>send email out to a couple of our customers>dynamic text section was colored white>white doesn't show on white>tfw worked fine in our CMS preview because my dark mode made the background blackFuck.
Is the tech field really fucked or are people just gaslighting me to keep me from competing for their comfy office jobs?
>>107809525its fucked insofar that you actually have to be competitive now instead of being able to show up as a thoughtless drone and collect infinite free money
>>107809560Any tips on choosing a boot camp to go to? I find that backend stuff is the most interesting, is that a good field?
>>107809382Been there before. Now you know, disable Dark Reader on customer sites.
>>107809585Flatiron School, General Assembly, and Hack Reactor.I recommend Flatiron personally. General Assembly is good too. Are they all pricey?Yes, but I know other Flatiron grads like myself that got jobs as a result. I've connected with General Assembly grads that made it very far too.Biggest advice though, don't be like some of the retards I've seen that try to go in with zero clue. I had done years of tech support roles and scripting beforehand so I had a leg up on a lot of people including literally dumb bitches that didn't know shit about computers.I've seen some pretty motivated people make it through. However, big pro tip, every one of these bootcamps have their shit on GitHub in one way or another.Find a grad on LinkedIn, look on their GitHub and see where they forked their shit from. Most of the time it was from the quarterly project repos that they give you as templates.Anyway, the same effort can be done on your own with the proper schedule as well.I did all of that shit while taking care of my father in law in the hospital and with a full time job.You can do it Anon but only you and only you will have the strength and balls to apply for jobs even during the bootcamp like I did. That was the only way I got my first dev job mid bootcamp.I wish you good luck my dude.
>>107809585bootcamps are dead brothe field doesn't need a pyramid of code churners anymore
>>107809013>>107807513Loser alert
>>107809717Thank you.>>107809725What should I do instead? Please don’t say college, I am so sick of retarded classes where I learn nothing.
