I consider 4k a meme that is still not even really exploited, I cant even believe 5k is not just retarded this early
>>
I'm gonna abandon amazon and buy the monitor on newegg instead. I found out the freight forwarder I use (supposedly) takes returns from all suppliers now so long as you have the RMA, I think in the past they only let you return stuff you bought from amazon so that's why I was putting up with waiting for Amazon.

That said now im wondering that if i wait a bit longer, maybeI will get from a batch of monitors with the grey banding fixed.
maybe amazon is taking so long because gigabyte wants to make sure the stuff they sell on amazon is good? I don't know. I don't know whats going oooooon
>>
>>107828620
I remember when the 980 ti was marketed as the first 4k gaming gpu. Over a decade later the resolution is still a pain to run on flagships. 5k isnt even meme tier until we at least master 4k... I mean to the point even midrange cards like xx60 are 4k viable.
>>
>>107828645
I wouldn't trust Amazon's jeets with anything really expensive in the first place so good call
>>
>>107828649
doesnt help that optimization is ass on everything now
I'm building a pc with 1440p in mind, if I can run 4k nicely so be it but I dont care,

ot even my wee anime is beyond 1080p so what the fuck do I even care, or any move (natively) for the most part
>>

Remember that report some time ago about a German retailer saying they can't get any distribution for high end GPUs available? Yeah the same is happening in Japan now too, and restocks are looking shaky, it's anyone guess when they will ever arrive

I let everything sit for a week at most. I build on Sundays. Get up early, have coffee, some breakfast, muck about on the internet for a bit, then around 10am I get to it. I have my building area all set to go the night before, so I can just dive in. I take many breaks at logical stopping points. I generally get it up and booted before dinner. After dinner, I spend the evening tweaking the bios, installing software, Steam, and test everything out. It's a very slow-paced, relaxing day.

I will admit to opening up the motherboard box and installing the CPU before build day.

Planning to keep the 3080ti as backup if 5080 burns down my house, and if the shortage gets worse ill sell it for what i bought it for in 2021.

My psu is not atx 3.0 rated, whats safest bet for me, at least the MSI adapter is a fire hazard from what i hear

the pulsar monitors might be a good choice at 1440p, elite motion clarity and all

I'm happy with my 9070 XT, the only problem is that most drivers are SHIT and I still use a 6month old driver because new ones are fucked.
>>
>>107829909
>>107829989
Pulsar is great. 30-40% reduction in peak brightness. It'll save you from mild, but annoying eye strain!
>>
>>107830018
what is this referring to?
>>
>>107829989
Definitely considering Pulsar but the prices seem steep at ~$650.
Meanwhile the Gigabyte M27Q3 is half that price for a 1440p 320hz super speed IPS.
I wonder how noticeable/worth it 320hz vs Pulsar is?
>>
>>107830026
320hz monitor without strobing has worse image clarity than pulsar at 100 + you need to run the game at 320hz to get the maximum clarity out of it which can be alleviated with the help of nvidia frame gen, but still.
If you do path traced games which are heavy even on 5070 ti at 1440p you'll have <100fps and pulsar will be the clearer option.
>>
>>107830059
I prefer to turn pathtracing/raytracing off so I'll definitely hit 100+ fps in all games with a 5070Ti.

Not convinced that improved image clarity is worth $300 more in price. I'll probably just hold onto my current 1440p 144hz monitor and see if any good deals on Pulsar monitors come around. Thanks anon.

Would I be retarded to meet someone IRL and buy a used 4TB SSD off facebook marketplace?

I essentially just have to trust that they won't scam me right?
>>
>>107830107
youd need to test the ssd on the spot to verify its not some usb with rocks glued inside
>>
>>107830113
Damn, doesn't seem worth the hassle of opening up my laptop and testing them.

People near me are selling 4 TB Crucial/Samsung SSDs for $280 to $300 when they could be selling them for $100 off ebay, no way it isn't a scam.
>>
>>107829984
That's a mistake and you'll be burned when the 5080 super or ti comes.
>>
>>107830107
Unless you test it on the spot before handing over money and only meet at a safe trade spot by a police station yes that would be retarded
>>
>>107830174
What if I test it and there's child porn on the drive and the police see it and arrest me??

Is 4k a meme?

Been using 1440p for a decade now and it still looks great, but everyone says once they get used to 4k 1440p looks like dogshit to them.
>>
>>107830184
You either roll the dice on that or you pay inflated prices for a new one.
>>
>>107830202
it was always a question of can you run games at good fps or not
with the dlss 4.5 stuff like 5070 ti are perfectly fine running games at 4k since the native res can be 1080p or less.

its not like games look bad at 27" 1440p so it depends on your gpu
>>
>>107830184
What’s with these hypotheticals lol
If it’s 4tb and the price is acceptable then just buy it (at a public location, coffee shot or near or inside a police station)
And if it’s a dud then oh well, lesson learned :p

noob here, what's a good brand for a 4k or 1440p monitor, also anything that's big? want to get one to also use as a TV/console gaming
>>

If you want the best value and prefer IPS:

4k - Gigabyte GS27U
1440p - Gigabyte M27Q3

For OLED, TN, etc I have no idea.

LG C5/C6 42" OLED

Perfect size for 100% GUI Scale 4k desktop monitor (it's basically a 4x1080p 2x2grid but without bezels). While still being big enough for TV/Console gaming from a bit further back.

Currently have a
B650 Aurous Elite AX V2
AMD Ryzen 5 7600x
AMD Radeon RX 6700XT

I'd like to upgrade the GPU, I'm mostly interested in 1080p gaming, maybe 1440p in the future but all I really care about is 1080p, trying to hit 120FPS+ in most games. The GPU served me fine but I think it's dying on me so I'd like to replace it without having to replace the other parts. I don't mind spending extra for a nice GPU, just really don't feel like rebuilding my PC. Any suggestions that's compatible with what I have?

people typically only buy amd if they're on linux since amd provides open source gpu drivers or some shit

>>
>>107829490
This only happens if I have to reuse the same case. As in, take the old stuff out, put the new stuff in.

Solution is to get a second case, and put the new hardware into that. Then transfer whichever 'old' parts you want to keep.

Deal with 'the mess' some later day.
>>
>>107830933
thats bad since amd likes to MAXIMIZE TEMPS at all times for mundane tasks that dont need it which results in annoying fan noise behavior

if you experience that shit turn pbo off, i got 7800x3d, maybe its less bad on 90xx
>>
>>107830952
99% of pbo options dont even work for the 7800x3d because its that locked down
the only one that has any effect is curve optimizer

Should I use a standalone motherboard for a poorfag general use PC, or can I still get by using a (newer) Dell workstation? Not sure what I should expect to spend, but my use case is gayming, 3D modeling; blender, and dipping my toes into general AI use. I'm basing the build around DDR4 and PCIe4 compatibility, since the ship has long sailed for DDR5 (might as well cut corners on DDR5 compatibility). I was originally going to use a Haswell-era Dell (DDR3, PCIe 3) I had laying around, which is sufficient for gayming, but using that for AI use is probably retarded/underwhelming.

GPU I'll probably go with is an RTX 3060 since I read that's a good starting point for AI use, though I'm not sure what variant is sufficient/necessary.

I don't know much about motherboards nor PC building in general, but I've often read that the x99 is a solid platform for poorfag builds (that was true a few years ago anyway).

>>107830971
Forgot to mention that I'm in the states, so buying a /csg/ x99 from Aliexpress isn't an option for the sake of cutting corners. Not that I would have considered it, since I don't think it would be a good idea from a security perspective.

Do they actually turn off backlight? Sounds like like eye strain acceleration to me
>G-SYNC Ambient Adaptive Technology
This sounds potentially nice. Nothing new tho and it seems to leave gamma unchanged while I'd want a slight increase in gamma if it gets darker in my room. Also Im not sure if the do color temperature correction for the darkest of pixels to maintain accurate perception of grey balance and whitepoint independent of room lighting.
>>
>>107831148
It seems to require having vertical strips of backlight that can be individually controlled
Apparently zowies dyac also had backlight control similar to that, except it wasnt a rolling strobe like pulsar.

It's an upgrade but hardly a mind blowing one. I upgraded from a 32" 1440p VA non-HDR display to a 32" 4K QD-OLED HDR display last summer and IMO the upgrades in color, contrast, and brightness are far more noticeable on an everyday basis than the upgrade in resolution. Then again I mostly got it to view 4K UHDs I ripped myself so my use case is probably different than yours.

FTFY, first is more casual but requires grammar, second needs no conjunction but has a more formal vibe.
