Do own E-Ink devices?
>>
I want to sell my 2021 Kobo Clara because it's so slow. I now use a 2017 Kindle Fire I got from cleaning out our unclaimed lost & found at work. Way better for the way I read.
>>
>>107908103
I have a Kindle Scribe that I use every day for reading and work. Works just fine for me.
>>
>>107908103
Far easier on the eyes than an illuminated screen. Said every reader ever.
Next question
>>
Hopefully it replaces everything I hate looking at LED screens all day. Imagine if using a computer felt the same as reading a book
>>
>>107908103
no thats ewaste, read a book nigger
>>
one of the best luxury purchases I ever made
>>
>>107908103
I do. I have a 7 inch color ink reader.
It's a nice little device for reading, especially manga. Though this screen is really dim because color ink readers are way darker than black and white. Have to use a backlight for it.
It's still better than LCD even from a quality monitor and it's my go-to for reading.
>>
Yes. Unrivalled efficiency is the main draw for me. Have a rooted old pw2 Paperwhite with KOReader. Goes for weeks without a recharge. Black bacground with grey font makes me happy also. Way better than using a phone, great tech.
>>
Aside from e-readers I own an e-ink clock and a hygrometer.
>>
>>107908103
*Flashes to refresh itself in your path*/10.

Terrible tech until the display tech is fixed to where it's not flashbanging to replace text/images.
>>

Which models have you used?

I've had an old Kindle Voyage for years. Great for reading outdoors. Everybody should have an e-reader, you can get used ones for under $20.
>>
>>107908103
Bought a Kindle PW 4 on sale a few years ago, installed KOReader and I regret nothing
>>
>>107910430
What are the advantages of Koreader compared to stock Kindle PW?
>>
>>107908103
I would like one of those A4 or thereabouts ones so that I don't have to carry my study materials around, but I also don't want to buy one for the prices they go for, and I don't want a single purpose tablet that I probably won't need in ten years
>>
>>107914075
They're not single purpose, at least not the Boox models. They run Android so you can do a lot of different things as long as it's not watching full movies or playing flashy games.
The prices for 13" models have gone down in recent years.
>>
>>107914172
For me they would be single purpose, I can't think of a single thing that I would carry one for that isn't reading documents because I already own a phone that does everything else
>>
What’s the point? Just go to the library.
>>
>>107914229
I'm scared because femoid will think I'm there to hook up with them. Don't want to land on social media as a weirdo creep
>>
>>107908103
I own the latest Kindle Oasis.
Good stuff despite the battery being shit compared to other einks but better than most stuff
>Aluminum body
>Waterproof
>Physical Buttons
I jailbroke it of course
>>
>>107914203
Then maybe you don't need your phone.
Reading books on a large display is more practical since you can fit far more text at once. Using split screen to take notes or cross reference is also an option.
>>
>>107914321
The original Oasis was miles better than the second and third gens. Way lighter, and you can actually replace the battery. When the battery dies in the later models, it's dead forever.
>>
>>107914229
Libraries are very limited in what books they have and it's always extra effort.

I got 3 Boox devices:
-Palma 2 (that I use when I commute to work)
-Note Air 4C (that I use for taking notes, studying in general and for comics)
-Go Color 7 (that I use at home)
>>
>>107914339
The problem with tablets is just that phones exist, I still need to call people so not having a phone is not an option, and I don't want to carry something as large as an A4 tablet instead of a phone because it's just too inconvenient
>>
>>107914362
ok jvscholz
>>
>>107914443
Get a real phone to call people instead of that "smart" shit that has poisoned modern society. Those things are making your life miserable and aren't convenient at all.
>>
>>107914464
It's pretty fucking convenient to have a single small device that can access the internet, play audio and video, call, and text other people
You're just suggesting I replace one so called cancer with a less useful cancer
>>
>>107914339
>Reading books on a large display is more practical since you can fit far more text at once
I have found it more practical to read on phone with scrolling mode and basically scan the same few lines and move text to the area. Rather to read up and down
>>
>>107914598
Playing video or browsing the web on a device that small is shit. Playing audio, calling and texting was something phones in the 90s already did in an even smaller form factor.

Ah yes, playing video, the one realm in which e ink tablets offer a best in class experience
>>
>>107917593
I'd rather watch a video on a 13" e-ink tablet than on a phone. But generally I'd wait until I'm at home and watch it on my TV or computer monitor.
>>
>>107908103
I really want a Boox Palma 2 but it's like 300 bucks what the fuck?? And it's Chinese so Xi Yinping will see that I look at foot fetish erotic comics and lower my social credit score which will be a problem when China finally invades the whole world.
>>
>>107908103
Jailbreaking my kindle made me use it a lot more than when I bought it back in 2020
It's pretty fun
>>
>>107917603
If you are at home, then surely you'd prefer to print out each frame in black and white on A4 paper, bind it all into one giant flipbook, and then riffle through it with your thumb, rather than watching a video on an E ink tablet
>>
>>107908103
I have a Boox Note Air 3C, I use it mostly for school textbooks and notetaking. I like the tech, I wish they made a decent e-ink phone.
>>
>>107918303
e-ink is serviceable for shorter videos.
>>
>>107908103
I’m looking forward to getting my TRMNL X in a month when it comes out
>>
>>107916145
Just make it display one word at a time Tictoc style.
>>
>>107911514
This isn't a thing in my experience, at all. And I'm using a fairly old PW2 (Paperwhite). I read mostly in the dark with black background, and the backlight just high enough to read without eye strain. Flipping pages is never jarring.

>>107914047

In short, it makes this old device useable.

Off the top of my head:

- Can run an SSH server so you can upload books, or tweak your addons or system settings manually over wifi, etc. It can sync with Calibre also if that's your thing. It also can update itself wirelessly, which is handy.
- For my PW2, the stock reader does not allow for dark mode at all. It wasn't a thing for stock PW's until the PW4. KOReader allows it, although the display was designed for black on white, and thus will have some very minor ghosting of text after flipping a few pages (see pic, not distracting for me, at least).
- I want to read epubs — PDF if I must — and it lets me. It supports a ton of formats, which the stock reader would never (because outside Amazon's walled garden).
- can change fonts, their size, and umpteen other things, but looks fine stock too.

If you have a rooted device, chances are KOReader is just better than stock and the way to be. It gets out of the way once it's set and the pages fly by.

>it's slow, so i'll have someone else suffer, and also take their money
why do normies do this
>>
>>107919989
to be fair, even normies donate
but typically only if they get a tax writeoff, or if it's heavy and they want someone to pick it up for free, or if it boosts their izzat somehow

I love my B7. 100% Beats carrying a whole ass LN in my bag , especially the ones with sexually suggestive covers. Or when I know I'll finish the current book soon so I start carrying the next queued book and end up with even less space in my bag.

Hated the original launcher though, office mode was a bit better except it always tried making me use built-in tools instead of KoReader and MiHon. I hopped back into android ricing specifically for this >>>/w/2267987

Also broke even on the price of mine after ~2 web searches and found epubs for a few long running series I was going to pick up at some point
>>
>>107908103
for me it is the Kobo Clara Colour
>>
>>107908103
I wanted to buy this because it's so compact but unfortunately it doesn't have backlight.
>>
>>107923622
It's very cute, but it's just missing too much basic shit to be worth it. At this point I'd probably go with something like the inkpalm 5 instead, or wait for the next model that has a backlight.
>>
Can I run KOReader on the newest Kindle PW if I order now?

Wtf are they doing?
>>

You can tap the screen to read the next page bro.
No need for 2 screens.
>>
>>107908103
I'm glad I waited, but I'm glad I purchased one.
Kindlefags have to cope with using a secondary app to read books on. Why aren't you just getting a good e-ink tablet that works right to begin with?
>>
>>107925681
>Why aren't you just getting a good e-ink tablet that works right to begin with?
Because they are 300 bucks when a used Kindle is like 20

I’ve been considering buying a boox tab x c. Anyone have any experiences with it?

Use case is mostly writing some notes and want to fill in some torrented workbooks. If there’s no space in the textbook I wanna be able to switch between notes and the reader apps quickly. Can you set up a macro to do that?
>>
>>107928216
You can split screen between the document and notes or you can insert blank pages in a document to write on. Otherwise you'd have to use the application switcher via gesture or keyboard shortcut, I don't think there's an option to directly tab between two programs.

Can you just insert random blank pages while reading a document? That would be ideal.

Super specific but can you make the split horizontal and super small? The vertical split doesn’t look like it gives you much room to write.

Thank you anon.
>>
>>107908103
I have an xteink x4 and it's the best ereader I ever owned
>>
>>107923622
that's actually the reason I got it. the x3 will have backlight but it's too small
>>107923731
what do you find it's missing? if you flash crosspoint it's unbeatable
>>
>>107928306
For pdf at least, maybe some other fixed layout formats.
You can pick both horizontal and vertical splits. I'm not sure if you can adjust the split ratio as I'm not on the newest software version.
