I'm building a high-end rig for C programming and 1440p gaming on Linux (Nobara). I have a few final questions before finishing the build:RAM: I currently have 1x16GB stick. Is the performance hit big enough that I need to buy a second stick immediately?Monitor: As a CS student coding for hours, should I get a high-end IPS to be safe, or is OLED burn-in no longer a major worry?Cooling: Can I safely run this CPU on an old budget cooler (Antec A400i) using Eco Mode until my better cooler arrives? Also, does the Corsair 4000D need extra fans added?PSU: Is a quality 850W unit sufficient for the 9070 XT spikes, or should I go for 1000W?Dev Environment: Is Nobara stable enough for daily university work, and should I stick with VS Code or force myself to learn Vim?"

They will say 4K is a waste, but it's not. It's 1.5x more pixels and has way more detail in trees, and small details in game. Once you go 4K you never go back, Same with OLED/MiniLED levels of contrast and color, same with high refresh rate from 60hz.The human eye can see past 60 PPD in detail, actually up to 90 PPD at 26" where it's noticeable.I will buy a 9070XT right now, and then buy the next high end GPU that AMD releases for $1000+ and pay the $400 difference when it comes out. Also with upscaling and FSR4 beingAt a 26-28" screen distance which I measured 27" 1440p is 53-56 PPD27"4K is 80-87 PPDEnough said
>>107967547I agree, but that anon is not happy with his AMD purchase and shits the thread up with lies.
>>107967551you do you i dont notice small details at all when im actually PLAYING games not looking at them, i could play a 30 inch 720p screen. so 1440p is more than plenty for me.
>>107967541errr yes. It's really about having moar cores I guess. The 9800x3d is the "value" leader because of cost savings. If you don't need the additional cores you can save the money but I think more cores is always better.Have a look: https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/amd-ryzen-9-9950x3d-vs-amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d-faceoff
If a 42" OLED TV costs $900 why does a 32" OLED monitor cots $950
>>107967551Also forgot to say FSR4 in many MODERN games is standard and required to function properly like arc raiders, Oblivion Remastered, E33. All the UE5 slop games require upscaling and on 4K upscaling looks better with FSR4 than native 1440p because there's a ton of detail. A lot of games require upscaling anyways so if I have the option of playing 4K at 75fps with FSR4 quality or 80fps 1440p native in E33 or Oblivion Remastered I'm choosing 4K every time because there's more way detail. And most games are not that demanding most games will run at 144fps+ if its not UE5 and I play a lot of indies.Even though 4K GPU's aren't as powerful as many people would like these days, they will be soon so just go with 4K.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HylcIjr2uQw

Having a 4K monitor increases detail greatly compared to 1440p when using upscaling. I mean 4K with upscaling benefits the absolute most where you dont notice it.Resolution used to be really important, no 4K makes more sense. 4K still isn't good, but that's not a problem of the resolution, just the new GPU's havent released besides 5090, and no one wants to buy a 5090 and pay scamvidia $5000 when a 9070XT is $600 and the new AMD 9080XT is going to be $1100 on launch and slightly below 5090 performance

AMD anons, what the fuck is up with AMD's GPU driver stability? Whether on 26.1.1 or 25.12.1, I keep getting insane shader cache corruption and driver crashes. Massive stutter and frame dips (unrelated to thermals/voltage, etc) in both the desktop and in games. Only resolved by fully clearing the shader cache or using DDU to fresh install drivers, and it may or may not be fine until the next boot if that fixes it at all.Using a 9070 XT for reference; what the fuck can I do? All I can think of is rolling back even further to 25.9.2, even though that may just do the same shit and doesn't have FSR 4 support. I've tried everything from fresh installs, shader cache resets, using stock voltages, and so on. I'm lost as to where to proceed. My drivers on the 7900 XT were NEVER this bad, fuck.

An Atx 3.1 PSU with a 12V-2x6 slot on it is vastly inferior to the 3.0 ones that use traditional 8pins the the 12V cable is exactly the same it's just the slot that's changed but still vastly inferior safety standards compared to the old ones whenever you see a slot melting on the psu side it the 12v one never the 8pin so you're much better off using 2x8 to 12 cable than the 12 to 12 and the new atx 3.1 slightly reduced the hold-up time requirement from 17ms to 12ms which is a step backward
>>107967977How is it not optimal?
>>107968131By having both drives in the bottom two slots, they're sharing the same connection to the CPU, a single PCIe 4.0 x4 connection, meaning if you want to read/write to/from one of those drives to the other, they're essentially fighting for the same bandwidth. If you have 1 drive in the top slot, and then 1 drive in the 3rd or 4th slot, the top drive gets a full PCIe 5.0 x4 link to the CPU, and the 3rd or 4th slot gets its own PCIe 4.0 x4 link that it's now no longer sharing so it gets it all uncontested. tldr; move the drive. Pic related, you can see how slot 3 and 4 both connect to a different chipset, but those chipsets BOTH share the same connection back to the CPU.The top slot doesn't share that connection.

>>107969062>the price will probably be astronomical. We don't know as of they release they will probably be at whatever price people are willing to pay. Of thats the case then expect everybody to attempt to offload their 50 series cards when the new 60 series comes out.People that are buying these cards and sucking up memory for data centers will update their tech even if that means they don't have enough resources to continue running their old hardware. So they may try and offload it. I wouldn't be suprised if we see people ripping vram out of old datacenter chips and soldering them on to the newer datacenter tech. The hobbyists will buy whatever new card they can get their hands on at whatever price they can get and drop their old 50 series cards like a kid getting rid of his old toys. The demand is concentrated so high up in the product skew that once the new tech drops all of the premium shit from the last generation becomes obsolete overnight. With ai that isn't entirely the case but I imagine theres going to more than a few people that once the 6090 drops will have to measure they're ability to run both a rack of 5090s and a rack of 6090s at the same time and figure they can offload a couple to make room for more of the current gen.Thats if nvidia doesn't decide to split the ai cards and the consumer cards into completely seperate product lines like they do with the workstation cards.

>>107969163Quiet, bub! You lookin' to get Extraordinary Renditioned??
>>107969207shut up. go back to subsidizing ai.
>>107969211I hope you ducked- that went right over your head
is ebay a good option for mex spic? new cards are still too expensive but I don't know if custom's tax could make an used card even more.
>>107969205>4090 is still sellingExactly nvidia is making anymore but for some reason they are still on the market.
>>107969226no i know what i did.
Is this single sided M2 supposed to be slightly beveled or should I remove the pad underneath? I was instructed to leave it on if single sided but I have my doubts. I'm leaning towards just taking it off. This is my first NVME experience so no bully.
I'm getting the impression that buying separate parts rather than buying whole desktops gets you way worse value on the used/flip market Some people really have no clue what they are selling if it's a whole PC, when it comes to components, the prices are always insane I guess because the people know what they are selling
>>107969256People that sell the whole thing instead of separately are either stupid or desperate either way you can take advantage.
>>107969254That looks a little bendy.
>>107969254I took it off. Much easier. Bunch of bullshit was fed to me by a friend who I clearly cannot trust anymore. And people wonder why I have trust issues, I can't even rely on IRL friends or a YouTube video which said the same thing.
>>107969254lolbruhremove the tape on the thermal pad underneath itit's got REMOVE written all over it for a reason lolyes the foam comes off it's only there so the shit doesn't get squished in transport
>>107969254>>107969288Why is your NVME bending.
>>107969296Yeah. I was told by a friend and a Kleo Yan video to leave it.I let it sit for 3 minutes before undoing it and removing it. I hope it's okay, next time I'm triple checking other sources, theres so much misinfo it's insane.
>>107969288All boards are different. Mine has a pad underneath and doesn't look like a horseshoe. I don't think anyone was lying to you.
>>107969320Not in the 2nd pic, it's flat now. Definitely makes me apprehensive on following said advice from said friend and YouTube.
>>107969288Good stuff. Some SSDs are double sided with chips on each side, like 8TB ones, so motherboards will have a thermal pad for each side of it.
>>107969336How many PCs has your friend built?
>>107966435Zen7 is on AM5 so it would have been beyond the 5 year plan anyway, AMD is likely preparing Zen8 for AM6/DDR6 in 2028
>>107969347At least 3 but it may have been a hot minute for him too. I'm washing my brain of his suggestions until I finish. At least he was solid on picking compatible (I hope, I did triple check with pcpartpicker and Google AI and /g/ like a month ago here)Wish me luck, here comes the CPU cooler part. This made me the most anxious for the last 2 times I built (each basically 9 years apart so I don't have frequent experience)
>>107969353Just get a threadripper.
>>107969377Are you using a water cooler or is it a standard fan? Looking at the first picture I think it may have been the pad beneath causing that bend, not giving the NVME the space it needs so to speak.
Speaking of which - install AMD CPU before or after I remove its OEM/default heatsink standoffs?
>>107966435>AM5 is 4 years old anonThat can't be true it's 2026 and it came out in 2022.Wait.
>>107969388I installed the CPU first, that way I could arrange the Heatsinks as I needed to and make sure everything fit. At least the ones that could come out that is.
>>107969384Noctua.And yeah, this video says to keep it if single sided but obviously was wrong, as was my friend who may have perpetuated the same misinfoI did remove the bottom/pad and now it sits flush. Thank goodness it was only a few minutes but lesson learned.https://youtu.be/DBlffeDoAhM
>>107969390Amd is definitely in a "oh fuggg" moment.Same with ever other manufacturer.
>>107969396Its entirely possibly your friend just misinterpreted the info and hadn't actually meant to spread the misinfo. Either way, good on you for the correction.>Noctua.Very nice. They don't make to much noise from what I've seen, although if you want you can up their RPM. I've still got some Thermalites I need to install myself.
>>107969345REMOVEREMOVEREMOVEhmmm surely this is fine
>>107969411>Its entirely possibly your friend just misinterpreted the info and hadn't actually meant to spread the misinfo. Its really difficult to explain simple things without going into ludicrous amounts of detail. A conversation is rarely enough time to teach anything or pass on any technical knowledge. Theres a reason teachers have to take courses just on teaching itself.
>>107969437I can confirm. My brother in law has, against my insistence, become a teacher. Good teacher though.
surely ram prices will go down by March when I return to the states and begin my pc rebuild
Second hardest part done, putting in the CPU with my monster hands without fucking anything up ( I hope).Next is the CPU cooler standoffs and then the paste and cooler.Gonna need to have a snack before that. I'm a big guy with anxiety. No, sadly alcohol does not help.
>>107969463UM...YEAHANY DAY NOW....
>>107969474You got this man. Listen to some ASMR to help.
>>107969474The CPU is really the only hackle raising part. You'll do fine.
>>107969463>>107969477>be trump>ram prices skyrocket.>as president can't control export>impose tarrif on ram>"surely that will lower the prices."
>>107969397nothing has changed as far as the AM5 development, they will likely still launch Zen6 late this year/early next year and Zen 7 in early 2028.the sales of Zen5 will be affected because nobody can buy ram, which is why they're moving to try to re-release X3D on AM4 so there's some money coming in from DIY and consumer.RDNA 5 is completely fucked by the GDDR7 and LPDDR5 shortage and likely wont launch until mid-late next year now.
>>107966939Hit me up on steam The Great Gatsbro I'll ship to Poland
>>107969474>>107969492Listen to glass shattering and metal bending compilation three hours and chug four red bulls. Don't do this
well fuck itI bought a new psufuck nvidia
>>107969501back to /pol/tard
>>107969397nah AMD is good right now. OpenSIL is set to replace AGESA, UDNA will be the biggest graphics microarchitecture change since GCN, They first procurement of 2nm while the competition doesn't
>>107966435The rumormill already said they're bringing zen7 to am5 and that generation will launch in 2029 at the earliest
Just built - should I flash my bios or is it good?
>>107969557>2029Just before the release of gta6, nice.
>>107969583If it's relatively recent, you're probably okay.If it's older, then it's worth updating.
only ssds that are going down in price are below 500gb since no one wants them.I am smelling an opportunity....
>>107969545Fuck all companies anon, but what did you buy specifically?
>>107969583Always good to update just to make sure you're all up to date.
>>107969583if its amd yeah you get literal performance improvements and need it for gen 5 parts
>>107969631>>107969622>>107969596MSI PRO X870-P for an AMD 9800x3d
>>107969637It depends when it was manufactured.Again if the BIOS version it has now is within the last 2 months, I wouldn't bother.
>>107969602I made a few retarded posts about my seasonic focus gx 850 from 2022 and my inno 5070ti earlier todaythe 5070ti came with a 2x8pin to 12v-2x6 adapter so it only supports 300w (non-peaks) right now (also most other 5070ti come with a 3x8pin adapter so 450w)anyway I thought I could just buy the "official" seasonic backwards compatible 2x8pin to 12v-2x6 cable which would go directly from psu to gpu -> 600Wor even the older 2x8pin to 12vhpwr (no 2x6) cable, also 600wbut as it turns out my PSU isn't even atx3.0 so I don't wanna risk this shit and fry my 5070ti somehowalso the cables are not available anywhere over here and I'm not buying offbrand shitso I bought a corsair rmx850maybe I can sell the seasonic for like 50 bucks on ebay so this will only cost me 100 bucks
>>107969637you want it up to date
>>107969644Just keep it for a spare or for testing.
>>107969644Meanwhile I'm moving from the rm1000i to the seasonic focus gx (2024) because corsairs dual 8-pin to 12vhpwr sucks at current balancing compared to a native 12vhpwr to 12vhpwr cable
>>107969644Corsair at least lets you buy cables for older models, they got a nice chart about type 4/5 models and which to buyAt least you're future proofed if it's 3.1
Start migrating to the old 2nd baked thread from a few hours ago when we hit page 7+>>107966068>>107969659Uh curious how do you know it sucked at balancing between 2x 8pins?
>>107969659>because corsairs dual 8-pin to 12vhpwr sucks at current balancing compared to a native 12vhpwr to 12vhpwr cablethe 2024 rmx has a native 12v-6x2 connection, no 8pin needed
>>107969671I spent like 2 hours in the last month trying to get the best and worse contacts within 5% current difference as measured on my 5090 astral. I've just settled at having 3 contacts pull 10% more current than the other 3 for now.I can't deal with this shit anymore desu>>107969675Yup, I'm just taking the chance to get a full white psu for my build and there aren't too many options on the market if you're avoiding Lian Li's PSUs like I am
>>107969688Oh. Interesting. I'm only going to be using a 5070 Ti so it doesn't affect me very much but I was considering buying a 2 PCIe to 12v-2x6pin in the future. Why didn't you get the HX1000i? That has iCue built in and would've maybe also alleviated that issue over the RM* version, even 2 years ago Again this is all theoretical and I have no anecdotes yet.
>>107969716I purchased my Corsair PSU way back in 2020 before this cursed connector was even a thing to consider
$290 for a 2tb 990 pro. Is that good?
>>107969735No, but I don't have an alternative.
>>107969729Well that explains it, I'm fairly sure then that RM1000e was a 2.x ATX? probably also maybe a reason why it wasn't exactly balancing well because it expected the older cards with separate 8 pins to manage the load (or having PCIE 1 connector to have more load like the CPU power 1 & 2 ports on mobos)
>>107969748The older ones are all atx2.4, yeah. Some of the newer Corsair PSUs launched in the last 1-2 years are actually atx3.0/3.1 with the native 12vhpwr connector.I'd say the balancing issue comes from how much slack there is in their type4 pcie 8-pin on the PSU side. Depending on how deeply each 12v cable is inserted, the current can vary from 4A to 10A on my 5090 at 600W. For now it's roughly 8.6A/8.5A/7.7A/8.9A/7.9A/7.8A which is in spec but not great
i have $30 credit at newegg.ca. any ideas on how to spend it? i'm already satisfied with my computer specs and temperatures
>>107969924purchase 2x64gb ddr5
>>107969924use it as a 5% down payment on 16gb of DDR5
>>107969644Lol duality of man anon, I just upgraded from a 1000w Corsair to a seasonic prime.I really do hate these cables, it's all bullshit.>>107969688>spent like 2 hours in the last month trying to get the best and worse contacts within 5% currentI just bought a thermal camera, check and see if any of the wires are off from the rest, so far so good.
>>107969966I check by touching the cables and the cables nearer to the PSU runs warmer Might have to place a 80mm fan in the PSU shroud to move some air and keep it cool
this parts market is going to make me kmsarc raiders keeps causing BSODs and ive been putting off a total rebuild for too long and now im mega owned fuck FUCK
