I'm currently still using a 24inch 1080p 60hz IPS panel, just a budget one I picked up like 8 years ago. I'd like to step up to 27inch 1440p and something over 120hz, though it seems like every panel being sold right now beats that refresh rate. my usage is split something like 60 work/browsing and 40% gaming/movies. I mostly play singleplayer rpg's and 4x games, so nothing that requires the absolute best response times. I'll pretty much always be using it in a bright/semi-bright room, never in the dark. Is oled still the way to go? It seems to be default recommendation everywhere, but there's a couple of things that kinda scare me off. >Supposedly oled have text fringing, especially at 1440p? I'll be browsing on it and my games have a lot of text, so is this still a thing? >I've read several reviews that mention flickering? I've been using IPS up until now so I'm not sure if those also have it, but I don't think I've experienced it before>Oled in general apparently don't get very bright? Though I'm using my current monitor at like 30% brightness and it's plenty bright for me, no idea how that compares>How much do modern panels need to be babied to prevent burn-in? I'm in the habit of just leaving my monitor on displaying whatever currently. I could start hiding the taskbar and using screensavers and what have you. But I do expect my stuff to last a good couple of years, so if forgetting to do the proper steps a couple of times leads to damage, I'm not really enamored by thatI suppose there's also those mini-led panels with 1000-1100 something zones. But reviews seem pretty split on whether those work as advertised or have constant issues.

can someone smart educate me on this, thanksmy psu didn't have a cable for my 5070ti but there was an adapter in the boxit has 2 slots for an 8pin cable each just like my 3080 had and the other end fit into the 5070, it has 12 pinsI read that this means it can carry 300W, 150W times two, max over time with being able to handle peaks of over 300Wwhen I play fully maxed out the 5070ti hovers just under 280W but has peaks of over 300W, see pic relatedI want to OC this card which means it will probably go over 300W as a baseline in some games? can this fry the card with the adapter only being rated for 2x150W?

>>107975412You must be new hereIt's true that RDNA1 - 3 were unbuyable, but the usual suspects still hailed them as saviorsHaving said that, RDNA4 isn't really that bad, still nothing close to "best cost-benefit card of the last five years". Arguably the 2060, 2060 Super, and 4070 were amazing if street value is the cost metric, with a large number of Nvidia cards still above Radeon's best card in many generations, the 9070 XT>if only we could trust AMD to support it long termA risk, time will tell. At the same time, I never expected RDNA1 or 2 to get ML upscaling, and the people who bought them claimed they didn't want ML upscaling anyway, so no harm no foul IMO. RDNA 3 has WMMA cores, so I was surprised that it didn't get some form of high quality upscaling, but again the buyers constantly poo-pooed the technology in general, and they bought it with no expectation of said feature. RDNA 4 seems to have the hardware acceleration that AMD's R&D has the budget to target, so personally I expect RNDA 4 to be supported with new models to certain extent. FSR 4 is actually usable, so game library support aside, the technology is there for implementation in future games, and I expect it to eventually be widely supported (although not as widely supported as DLSS).Again, "best cost benefit card of the last five years" is already wrong, as DLSS allows cheaper Geforce cards like the 5060 Ti 16 GB to exceed the image quality and smoothness of the 9070 XT.

Intel is bad and no one should EVER EVER EVER buy it.-----okay memes aside, the real reason zen 3 x3d is so popular right now is there's just a ton of people on old am4 boards and it's a greatd drop-in upgrade for their aging zen 1/+/2 part. There are not that many people on LGA 1700 in comparison, at least I don't think there is? And even if there are, that means they're on Alder Lake, which is still good, they don't need a drop-in upgrade, and even if they did Raptor Lake kinda ain't a big one unless they specifically need more estrogen cores for encoding/rendering/etc.

>>107976272Worth more at lower resolutions like 1080p, but at 4K it's not that useful as you hit substantial diminishing returns. If there's some type of flaw in the upscaler (like moire), usually it presents in DLAA as well, although sometimes higher input resolution can help to alleviate some issues. The basic principles in DLSS and DLAA are obviously the same, just with different input resolutions. Maybe with Nvidia's "Recommended" preset in the settings app, it'll dynamically select different models for DLAA, like it does for Performance and Quality now, and you could have some differences in handling of aliasing or something like that, but manually switching the models lets you change that if you want, so theoretically you could use the same model for DLAA and Quality.

>>107976346>Almost all new games now have fsr4 nowFirst off, that's not proper englishSecond off, you can't even say “almost all” when it's not even at 50%.
>>107976346Support is not universal (can't even workaround in a lot of multiplayer games) and of course DLSS is higher quality than FSR. Additionally FSR FG is currently globally unusable because of frame pacing issues. DLSS FG by contrast has multiFG with dynamic FG coming soon. This doesn't even consider all the older games that have shit or mediocre TAA and are better with DLSS
>>107976385Oh so you aren't stupid or being willfully ignorant. You're just a lying shill. Got it.
>>107976361in my experience it's just a total pain in the ass to get stable, but i don't know if it's a matter of sticks or a matter of ranks. 8 total ranks (4x2dpc such as 128gb or 192gb configs) are just a horror show if you want even a mhz over JEDEC...

Is a 9600x and 16gb of RAM good enough as the foundation for a very basic setup?
>>107976400You can play those games with native or FSR REDSTONE, and they look good, its not like the people with a 9070 XT will be able to use DLSS, they'll be able to tell the RASTER performance and the superior price-to-performance. Making the 9070XT the superior option, is even better than a 5090 when you consider how cheap the frames are.
>>10797645016gb on windows is doable but not ideal, on linux it's fine

Anon buying the Threadripper build from work here. I messaged them and said I'm in, so the system is mine. I already venmo'd the money over. They confirmed the motherboard make and model and it's the Asus WRX80 Sage something or another as it's one of the few boards that actually fully supports RDIMM ECC and is a proper workstation board. It has 3x M.2 slots and 2x U.2 Slots. What SSDs should I be looking to populate this thing with? From my research, U.2. seems to be a very niche thing for the professional space. I assume they're wildly expensive for the average consumer? Also I don't think PCIe lanes will be a problem. From specs sheets I was reading, I have 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes to work with. Figure 32x lanes for the 2 GPUs, 12 more lanes for the 3x M.2 SSDs, I'm like drowning in lanes.

>>107976506it's crazy the amount of gaudy monitors that exist. Like beautiful from a specs perspective but Christ some hurt to look at. Nice to see some change and companies embracing plain bezels, no RGB cancer, stands with tilt and vertical movement, etc.
>>107976493U.2 is pricey, adapt PCI-E lanes into m.2 for all the storage you can dream of. I wanted to check the mobo manual but pic related. Those workstation boards can be quirky, I hope you won't have to do too much troubleshooting.

>>107976553it's this one, pic from Google. The machine has been rock solid for them and was actually one of the machines that didn't require constant baby sitting and trouble shooting. Maybe chalk it up to the system have ECC RAM and even the GPUs have ECC VRAM.
I'm noticing an increasing amount of 5090 in stock in various stores.I guess that the 3.5k-4k price tag is reaching a level where people aren't in a mad rush to buy them anymore, even with a shortage looming over us.~3k is probably pretty close to the very limits of consumer pain threshold.

I'll ask here because you guys seem to understand monitor gimmicks fairly well. Can someone help me understand LFC?To avoid brightness flickering, I've been fucking around with my monitor EDID. I'm playing with VRR ranges specifically. I'm on AMD. By default my monitor reports the refresh rate properly all the way down to 48hz, which is the lower vertical rate limit (turns out I can't even go down to 46hz, that'll give me blanking issues). Anyways, when that limit is set to something much higher, like 120hz, anything under 120hz gets doubled or tripled in hz reported by the OSD. If I'm guessing right, that's what LFC is supposed to be. So for some reason, by default, the monitor does not do LFC until I hit 47fps or lower. Am I getting this right? One benefit I've seen from setting this limit much higher is that indeed, the brightness flickering, even if it's still there, is severely reduced. Hell it's almost gone. But is it detrimental in some other way? Like input latency, stutters, what specifically?I also noticed that it's just not possible to push the lower limit too far. I'm on 360hz and I cannot set it to 170hz. 160hz is fine though, so the limit must be somewhere in between. Once I try 170hz or higher, VRR just won't work (or at least does not get reported on the OSD which should mean exactly that). I thought I could mitigate further flickering by going crazy and just setting a 240hz-360hz range but that's too ambitious.
