What's working with Azure professionally like? If you don't know anything about the cloud, you can sign up for Azure for "free" (with a CC) and get free credit for the first month, after than you have a year where you have some things that are free up to a certain usage/provisioning limit, then some of that goes away after a year.

Is it a completely different experience? Not really. Networking still matters as you will set up private endpoints and stuff for resources. VMs are still used, but Azure also has a lot of PaaS stuff too like App Service and managed SQL. There's a lot of things too like AIS (API Management, Service Bus), Functions (serverless). Azure DevOps is also used by companies. I don't think any of these are massive paradigm shifts from what already existed, they're just configured differently.
There's just a lot of shit to learn, which is also why Azure certs are considered the hardest of the 3 cloud providers. I'd also recommend learning IaC.

Seriously for a moment, how secure is everyone's job here right now? I just graduated college last year and for the past two years I've been the everything guy regarding technology doing programming, devops, scripting, tech assistance working on research tools for a small team in the government. With that being said, what is the best field to start up-skilling towards? I'm guessing kernel development and embedded systems with time-critical applications, in other words things that can't afford to be shit. The killer is the project was well documented and we were talking, a lot. The problem is that he needed to create an isolated endpoint for new functionality and instead, did all the work in an existing endpoint (bad) and didn't even put in any logic so that the new functionality breaks the current one.

I think it's probably my fault he got on the wrong path. The new Endpoint is doing a near identical workflow to the one he's broken (difference is API syntax and where some internal API calls go)

I said to him, we need to make sure we're not duplicating code and making bug fixes/changes twice as hard to he should use as much code from the current workflow as possible. Rather than using the same functions/classes and maybe moving some code to make it reusable he's taken that to mean "put the code in the current workflow".

But yeah, he really should have been questioning that he was clearly breaking existing code. If it's a reoccurring issue, you can of course bring it up professionally in a meeting, but especially if he's a junior he might have issues with taking critique in such a setting or speaking freely. 1 on 1 it's usually easier to get those people to talk at first, maybe during a break or something. Just remember that you guys have the same goal, so if you can find a way you can help him make less mistakes then that's good for you because it means you have to fix less mistakes too.
All of this is unless your work environment or job sucks, in that case document your contributions to be able to show them later and try to get a promotion/jump ship with that. If you want to be nice and help him you can, but fixing the process is the manager's job arguably.

Gave me a solid resume, got an interview with it.
