The reapplied thermal paste made me think it was some sort of pad at first until I realized it covered the entire vapor chamber besides just the GPU die.Not sure if I should wipe it all off or just apply some paste on the die and keep the rest since it doesn't seem petrified like the paste on the die.

The 7950X clocked at 5.7 GHz which was easily achievable in many lightly threaded and low-intensity workloads.>However, this 5.7 GHz would crash the chip under certain AVX workloads. The work-around was to lower the clock speed to 5.5 GHz by applying a -200 MHz offset to the PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive).>January 2023: AMD releases the AGESA 1.0.0.4 microcode update. It effectively drops the clock speed from 5.7 GHz to 5.5 GHz to fix the AVX instability - thus formalizing the workaround. While 5.7 GHz was still possible, it required operating conditions that were unrealistic and unlikely to be sustainable in any real-world workloads.>So what happened is that AMD launched Zen4 at clock speeds that were too high for the silicon to handle. So they nerfed it down by 200 MHz. But to avoid false advertising, the door to 5.7 GHz is kept open through a narrow road of unrealistic thermal conditions that would guarantee stability.

I have a Tesla GPU that needs an 8 pin CPU power connector specifically, it CANNOT use PCIe. I'm using a 650 watt pic related PSU. I'm doing this in an optiplex 7050 which uses a proprietary mobo connector which I built an adapter for using 2 6pin PCIe to SATA adapters and soldering together the appropriate cables. (Remarkably, this works fine) The PSU does have a dedicated CPU power connector but I can't use it because it's only a 4 pin connector and I'm already using it to power the system CPU.Is there a pre-made adapter for going from PCIe to 8pin CPU cables or do I need to make my own? It looks like the only (electrical) difference between the CPU and PCIe connectors is that the CPU one has 4 12V rails and 4 GND rails, while the PCIe has 6 of each and 2 sense pins.In theory can I just source the appropriate 12V and GND rails from 2-3 of the 6 pin PCIe ports on the PSU and then splice them into an 8 pin CPU connector to feed the GPU?

Is needing a 12-pin PSU cable for GPU a problem? I've seen shade thrown at 12-pin GPUs and I just want to know whyAnd kind of related, but my understanding is that using cables (or anything like adapters) that weren't included and manufacturer with/by your PSU) is a potential death sentence for a GPU (or any component really). Does a typical PSU include any and every cable you would need for any components, or do you run into situations where you might need to find a very specific replacement cable that wasn't included for a part

>>108044444Go to the store and buy a 5090? It's pretty easy.
>>108043319I think you totally missed the point. I don't need to jump the PSU, it powers on just fine, the system powers on just fine. I just need a kind of connector that the PSU doesn't have I think.>>108043190>de pin the connector make a Y cable out of two pcieWhen you say de-pin what do you mean? Like cut material away from an existing 8 pin connector until it fits? And yeah a Y cable is basically what I had in mind.Pic related is more specifically what I am planning. I'll get an actual 8-pin CPU cable, cut off one end, do the same with a pair of 6-pin connectors, and then solder/splice them together according to pic related. The green vs blue lines are just to make it easier to follow what goes where. Of course I'll heat-shrink the joints so there's no possibility of creating a short.
>if NVidia had better Linux drivers, it'd be unquestionable what card people should buy>but they don't, and as such their cards are inferior
>all above 10gb gpus jumped $100the squeeze is IN.
>>108044412With the current ram and ssd prices you might as well just slap a 5800x in your motherboard and call it a day.
>>108044529If Linux didn't suck ass, maybe NVIDIA would give a shit. I hate windows, but its still more usable somehow. I think in the next few years Linux will be there.
>>108043574You will be wishing you had more ram. Yeah it is expensive, and adding second kit is not expo stable.

>>108044529No? Nvidia hardware is flawed at the ASIC level. https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5157/~/after-updating-to-nvidia-game-ready-driver-461.09-or-newer%2C-some-desktop-appshttps://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/575925/hardware-acceleration-related-issues-screen-goes-b/Disabling your display engine, decoders, and hardware acceleration is not a fix that means your fucking GPU is not being used its all put on your CPU. Software Rendering is worse than Hardware Rendering.
>>108043845I have watched any kind of cpu repair and this was really cool to watch. How hard is it to repair a graphics card? This was really interesting, thank you for posting this.
>>108044553>>108044556Nah.
>>108044570nvidia gpus are shit because they only run on one shit os properly. that is completely true.
>>108044529As someone who is eventually going to build a linux box for everyday stuff and gaming, what actually is wrong with the nvidia linux drivers? And are the AMD drivers any better? All the AMD cards I have (most are rather old) are a huge pain in the ass to get to work. openCL especially is a total nightmare and that's something I really just need to work. Then again, I've also had issues with Nvidia cards, just not as bad. Also I seem to have these same issues on windows as well a lot of the time.Hang on, do ALL GPU manufacturers have shitty drivers for ALL operating systems for ALL of their products since the very beginning...?
>>108044444>buy good value bundles>sell the parts for more than you paid>????????>profitIt's that easy.
>>108044557>flawed at the ASIC levelYou are describing your 7900 XTX.RDNA3 cards are still crashing on Helldivers 2 unless the owners downclock their GPUs like the suckers they are.>>108006817

>>108044702Should have bought an LG G5.
>>108044584gsync doesnt even work properly on the os its supported on it flickers like crazy. freesync premium pro doesn't have this problem on 9070xt.
>9070 16GB on Amazon for $590
>>108044747What's the difference between freesync premium and regular freesync. Can't NVIDIA run freesync if that's what worries you?
>>108044768He's a shitposting abortion, don't take him too seriously.Classic example of how owning a Radeon card is an unfulfilling experience.
>>108044768Freesync Premium just works on AMD. The GPU handshakes perfectly with the monitor.Gsync + Freesync are both bricked on Nvidia. The GPU refuses to handshake correctly. The result is the anomalies you see all about VRR. Flickering, black screens, frame juddering as the HARDWARE display engine isn't keeping up like AMD.>>108044776Fuck up nigga.
>>108044820>>Freesync Premium just works on AMDlol nopeThe GPU handshakes perfectly with the monitor.lol it's shit
>>108044820I guess but I'd still like tho know the difference between freesync premium and regular freesync. I've run freesync before and it worked fine with NVIDIA. I have Gsync cert. monitor now and really can't tell any difference.
>>108042120RTX 50 series most reliable gee-pee-(you)
>>108044833There's a reason panels are dropping Gsync for Freesync and its not cost. Freesync works on consoles + amd pcs. Gsync is a useless flicker brick for most Nvidia owners they end up disabling today.
>>108044844Basic Freesync is dead. It's been replaced with Vesa VRR.There's Premium and Pro. They're the same thing but better than Gsync & Vesa VRR. Pro is guaranteed to have decent HDR. Premium has no HDR or garbage HDR.
>>108044871uh huh and all these same companies launching pulsar monitors that literally only only work on nvidia cards aka 90% of the market. Good luck selling and AMD exclusive monitors. And all that freesync trash still has to be gsync compatible to get any buyers. But give it a couple years and I'm sure AMD will have FreeSAAR tech too they have to beg to be included by giving it away for free
