Nobody has trouble playing vidya with a Model M which is what the Smurve is modeled after. What might trip you up is that the curvature of the keyboard itself may make typing awkward depending on your keycap profile. The keycaps of Model Ms and Fs are basically Cherry profile, but they achieve an SA or MT3-like curvature through the actual curvature of the board.

nth for booba U4Ts
>>
So I've discovered part of the reason I'm getting binding with these Typeplus stabs (completely unlubed, in case a certain someone wants to accuse me of overlubing them) is partly that the keycaps themselves are not perfectly aligned. So with the ultra-tight tolerance of the stabs this is problematic.

Does anyone know any tricks for testing the keycap holes for straightness? I know how to bend them gently, but I don't know how to decide which way they need to be bent.
>>
>>108080891
Just stuff tissue in the stem holes of the stabs. Fuck Typeplus.

>>108080897
>Fuck Typeplus
Beginning to feel this way myself. Just seems so fucking difficult to get it not to bind, and it has done this to me on two keyboards now

Seems to be fine on spacebars though.
>>
>>108078844
I wonder if you had a pretty bad condition one. If enough rivets fall off they do start to feel rather shallow and mushy, yeah.

In peak condition and/or restored with a screw or boltmod yields no mushiness whatsoever.

Last time, no; this time, yes. Also tested with Keychron caps, which are PBT, and those worked fine. So I'm pretty sure the caps I'm using are a tiny bit warped.
>>
>>108080874
Still a great tactile switch but they're getting hard to find, shame too because my experience with them is apparently only with v1s, the original "fried egg" version of the switch, and with U4Tx dampened switches that I converted into box stem U4Ts by opening the switches and removing the silicone bumpers inside. I tried to make the move to Chosfox Voyagers but across both v1 and v2, there's an odd problem where if a keycap is pressed or held on the very bottom edge, the switch won't activate. Playing some twin-stick shooter vidya like Binding of Isaac meant I would actually trip into this issue often enough to be annoying.
>>
MX Blacks.

I've rescued a few keycaps with it, like the PBS MV Classic set that shipped with warped 2u caps (I could have just waited for the replacements to arrive in the mail, but I straightened them out instead).

In this case it seems like the far more sensible and safe option is to change to different stabs.
>>
>>108080982

>>
One thing that does bother me about CRP is that they sit higher than GMK and old Cherry dyesubs. Mostly noticable on R4. It's not always bad depending on the case but sometimes the gap is pretty noticable and distracting.

Ok I've been making progress on the Typeplus stabs. They're less bad than when I started. Did a couple things.

1. Worked on making the keycaps less tight. These are very tight keycaps. So I've been sticking stab stems into them and wiggling the stab stem until it comes out, which requires a pretty forceful wiggle. Doing this horizontally and vertically multiple times on all three holes, until subjectively it didn't feel as hard to do.
2. Tried the TX AP stab break-in trick that someone on Reddit mentioned, which is removing and inserting the wire over and over, maybe 20 times each side (Redditor said 100, I hope that's not true lol). Then lightly lubed the wire where it touches the housing with 105.

Just doing these two things has made a big difference. I'm not all the way to the feel of Cherry clip-ins, but I'm way closer than when I started. If you're struggling with Typeplus stabs, you should try doing this.
>>
>>108081556
Hmmm not sure if this actually did anything. It seemed to at the time, but after letting it sit for a while and checking again it seems to feel sluggish again. I wonder what's going on?
>>
>>108081582
How heavy is the spring in the switch? I had some issues with really light switches not returning properly.
>>
>>108081601
60g. And the spacebar has no issues whatsoever, so I don't think it's a weight issue.
>>
>>108081556
>>108081582
Honestly this has been my experience with all meme stabs, starts off as a positive impression, then I actually use them and notice that they have a lot of weird aspects to them (sluggishness, slight binding, generally not feeling smooth), and then I try a bunch of things to get them to feel better, before eventually desoldering the board and taking them out and replacing them. Every fucking time.
>>
>>108081612
I might just end up doing that. But I didn't have that experience with Knight V4s. (Helps that they're very similar to Cherry)

Sorry if I'm asking in the wrong place, but I'm having a problem with keys sticking. Does the reputation of plate-mount or clip-in stabilizers being dogshit just come from Cherry? They're really convenient compared to screw-in, and some CMK or FL ESports stabs I've gotten on FL ESports boards or bought myself have been fucking amazing.

I've done ~6 boards with Cherry clip-ins before I tried Typeplus. I have many sets of cherry clip-ins which I bought in bulk sitting in a drawer that I can pull out if I decide I've given up on trying to make Typeplus work. I'm not allergic to Cherry clip-ins.

Haven't tried Geon wires because I thought they were unavailable, but it turns out a local vendor has them, they just don't list them on the stabilizer section of their website. Will order some and give them a shot.

No, it comes from the early clip in / plate mount clones which were pretty bad. Genuine chery clip ins or plate mounts were always well received. A lot of boards from around the early boom of the hobby came with OEM stabs with horribly imbalanced wires, bigger wire holes (meaning more rattle), and they didn't even clip in well

Ok I'm so close to having Typeplus solved.

So far I've done:
- filing out the plate (GDK's fault, not Typeplus's obviously)
- stretching out the keycaps until the fit isn't as tight
- breaking in the stabs where the wire inserts by removing and inserting 30+ times

Now the final step: I built the board with just the stabilized keys and a few other switches to support the plate. Then I rapidly pressed the stabilized keys as fast as I could, using pushing keystrokes and pulling keystrokes and pressing along every edge, rapidly see-sawing the keys with presses on opposite edges, just spam pressing every keycap I could along every possible edge and in every conceivable way that I could encourage it to bind. If I found a way of doing it that was more sluggish, I spammed that until it went away. After a half hour of doing this the mods are starting to feel normal for the first time.

Will I ever buy Typeplus again? Probably not. But maybe I'll use them this time.

I might reply to this post again in 30 minutes saying "wait now they're binding again" like the last time I thought I'd fixed them. We'll see.

The majority of people are retarded shit eaters.
The same mouth breathing retards think that gluing a weight to a keyboard increases the build quality.
Most people even believe that shitty membrane keyboards are perfectly adequate!
Nice keyboards would still be the standard if most consoomers weren't happy to eat shit.

Gasket mount is different. Gasket mount is comfy on the fingers and the sound isn't a huge downgrade the way flex cut is
>>
>>108089156
I'm reminded of the rainy75 now costing almost 200 USD. Nasty that people are paying that much for that thing.
>>
Can't tell if I'm making progress on the Typeplus stabs and at the same time getting pickier about how good they need to be, or I'm not actually making progress.

It feels like every time I walk away from the keyboard and come back the stabs have regressed. I wish I could go back in time and compare how it felt earlier today
>>
>>108089487
You sure your caps aren't seesawing at this point? Given how many times you've attached and reattached them I would be surprised if they weren't too loose
>>
Apparently they have "hall effects" for keyboards now? What are those like?
>>
>>108089561
They've loosened a lot since when I started, which puts them now at tighter than average compared with other caps I own. At the start I think they were the tightest caps I've ever used
>>
>>108089576
PBT is always tight as fuck yeah

Hall effect keyboards have been around since at least the 70s.

Surprisingly good keyboard, stabs are perfect and it's cool to get a keyboard with a sculpted profile out-of-box that isn't Keychron. Only knock is no QMK/VIA, not that it's really all that needed on account of being a full-size.

Have you checked out 21kb.com ?
They are the masters of beige & grey keycaps.
You can pretty much customize their keycaps however you want, as long as they are either beige or grey.
I have a set and they have the best mold out of all other keycaps I've had. Thick, solid and no wonky spacebars.

The weights are there to remove ringing from the aluminium case, and it also feels nice to have a heavy keyboard.
If you want a stiff typing experience, just get a top-mount or a tray mount with a stiff plate.

This NicePBT set is somehow even tighter than Shenpo

>>108089640
Lookin' good, Anon
>>
>>108089804
The thickness gives them a somewhat shallow sound and a glassy spacebar. Not always bad and you can build around it, I don't dislike them at all—but if anon is going for the more GMK-like sound of CRP he might not want to make that switch

I'm a bit tired of anons feeling the need to say this every time they see a cyrillic keyboard. It's like when someone needs to say every time a shade of brown reminds them of poop. That's a you problem

I was planning to lube the stabs with Tribosys 3203 or 3204. I'm worried 205g0 will be too thick. I don't want viscous drag making things worse, but I do expect that friction in the stab housing is partly to blame.

I bought an F18xv2 a few months ago based on the hype, worst $550 that I spent on this hobby.

Its an extremely overrated board. The AGE (auto-Geon ejaculators) are always trying to convince you otherwise, since the brand has an irrational cult following.

The pinging sounds, the easily scratch-able anodisation, the uneven screw threads - just... Mid at best.

is it possible to get a mechanical keyboard for $30?
>>
>>108095928
Plenty, though I'd float around for the hotswap options within that price range. This one claims to have hotswap switches: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Colorful-Sounding-Computer/dp/B0FGYBW71Y?refinements=p_36%3A-3500
>>
>>108095928
You can get a lower end board in that price range easily. I bought a 65% board for like $17 dollars. You'll know it's a cheap board but it's still miles better than membrane.

Better yet, here's a full-size for $20. 3-pin hotswap. (3-pin vs. 5-pin are the two plastic pins on the bottom of a switch. If your switches come with 5 pins, nip them off with flush cutters. It won't affect their compatibility with 5-pin hotswap.)

The fuck, it's worse in every way as far as I can see. Why would I pay anywhere near that kind of money for a row-staggered flat piece of shit?
The only other thing worth going "higher" for would be a Svalboard, but I'm not autistic enough for that.

>or commission the dactyl anon here
I want trackballs, and I've never seen him building trackballs. I'm basically torn on the Charybdis but I'm very unsure about a thumb trackball, while the imprint seems to have decent finger ball placement.

My Neo60 is shorting on the bottom case when I use the gasket bean mounts. No protruding hotswap sockets or anything. Any change in sound profile if you put ESD tape on the bottom? It sounds way better with the gasket beans and these switches.

Also the 'Dusk' weight has no purple in it at all :(

But they rattle like crazy
