nothing ever happens edition
not linking the previous thread because i don't like the previous op

on an unrelated note the recent discord update has (finally) frustrated my friends well enough to follow me into matrix (its not exactly the best option but it is better than discord and it is normie friendly so gotta make do i guess). real question is why do the (more enlightened, relatively speaking) normies only switch when time's running out?

Can't browse the internet from this laptop anymore
Also why does mpv run fine in a window but is choppy on Fullscreen?

I get that 1680x1050 is very demanding for this but scaling shouldn't be that demanding right?

Oh actually SeaMonkey and Dillo still work as web browsers, on the websites that aren't very heavy that is
I can't use captcha tho so I can't post directly from the laptop
Modern browsers require SSE2 so they don't work on this laptop
And forget about YouTube, but invidious our ytfzf can work sometimes

Convinced a semi-longtime friend of mine to try out alternatives while the others plan on just using steam chat. May settle with SimpleX since Matrix is jewish and it doesn't require me to download images in order to see them.

i am aware of matrix's links to israel but it still is less pozz than discord itself. ill probably look more into simplex as another alternative chatting service, already have xmpp

>>
>>108131145
clients are XMPPs big weak point right now. On Linux use Gajim or Profanity if you're into TUI. Kaidan looks great but has no fucking MUC support. On Android I use Monocles but the active ones are all pretty similar since they're all Conversations forks.

Web standards are singlehandedly turning computers that "work" into eWaste because websites becomes impossible to run, while actual office programs, video players, etc work as well as they did when the PC was new
YouTube is specially bloated, but many other sites take an obscene amount of CPU and RAM resources too

NTA but you can do something like it via uBO:
>youtube.com##ytd-rich-grid-renderer:style(--ytd-rich-grid-items-per-row: 6 !important;)
Change the 6 to whatever you wish.
Also to fix the new ugly sidebar you can use:
>youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.EXPERIMENT_FLAGS.kevlar_watch_secondary_max_width, 402)
>youtube.com###related a.yt-lockup-view-model__content-image, #related ytd-thumbnail:style( width: 170px !important; )

I wanted to build a PC that I didn't have to upgrade for at least a decade, and the only upgrade that's unavoidable is the GPU because of driver EOL, so that's the only part I didn't massively overspec for my needs. A 9900X and 5 TB of NVMe storage is comically overkill for the shit I do but at least my CPU won't be annoying me with how slow it is for ages to come.
>>
>>108137512
Oh, these are actually really cool. I'd been thinking about doing something similar but never got around to it.

I think I found your stuff -- assuming the Gitlab-hosted page is correct, at least. Are the shared libs for ikatube / ikachan intentionally closed-source?
Not sure if you'd consider publishing the code, but it'd be super nice to be able to rebuild them for my system; I'm on ppc musl half the time, so glibc amd64 binaries aren't exactly ideal.

What do you mean by choking? Two things are happening. 1, the logo as a whole is narrower. 2, the font width is Black, or Heavy. Boldx4

If you look at the color blocks in the cantarrel image, you'll notice that they are wider than they are tall. I dislike this, but otherwise like cantarrel.

>>
>>108160810
Anons who complain don't even care about people's desktops or rice, they just like to insult everyone who posted all at once. You are a faggot, and it shows. I have been here for almost 20 years, there is always something special and unique in these threads. You can't see it because you are stupid.
>>
>>108160867
What I wrote must be true since it made you implode with insults.
But yeah no, it's been the same thing since 2013, except now theres no Windows posting as much as before, it's the same desktops for the past 5 years from the same people that just 'avatar-fag'.

Since Unixporn became popular on leddit, we've basically exhausted all possibilities. The same desktops you see here are the same ones you see on unixporn, except for those using lolis as wallpaper.

The problem with the popularization of ricing is that the possibilities have basically been exhausted. No matter how "creative" you are, some faggot on unixporn has already done something similar. So basically, all that's left is to repeat the same old desktops.

What could save this type of thread would be some kind of experimentation. For example, someone creating a new window manager, a new desktop environment, a new way of thinking about UI for desktops, etc. But that requires a Herculean effort; almost no one has the time or skill to develop new tools. Even with AI, it's difficult to make something that's truly useful.

some barely optimised combo of X, picom, mpv, tlp and whatever drivers are around
tbf, that temp was a spike as I'd just opened one (720p60fps) stream and another (1080p60) stream was already playing, same is running now at 45-51C
it's a thinkpad X13 Gen1 that I just found, never used arch on such modern hardware and still getting used to it all:
>CPU: Intel i7-10610U (8) @ 4.900GHz
>GPU: Intel CometLake-U GT2 [UHD Graphics]
>>
>>108164174
>everyone
That simply isn't the case. Many of these window managers are actually hybrid or have different modes available to the user. Even Windows 10 has a tiling mode.
That said, for some it could just be as simple as showing off their wallpaper, or all their active programs at once though they typically have them on other workspaces or fullscreen everything and just switch tabs.
>>
>>108164174
I used tiled for my 'mainpages' like a browser workspace (with a few cli windows for making changes as I browse), or one where I read rss feeds whilst also writing and monitoring email
when i'm watching video I use float as it looks nicer to me, always watching 2-3 things at once coz adhd

Good luck with the install.

I never use trackpad, have it disabled - I've run from a x31 to x61 then x220, x260 and now this - only way to get the newest internals is to give up on the nicer physicality...or spend way too much for one of those hybrids

kvantum isn't at play at all here either since it's trinity de (which is a fork of kde 3 so just forget about kvantum entirely), if i recall correctly the window border was quartz and the widget style was phase, they came with tde.

The true tech people went to lain or formed their own smaller niche groups. There aren't any creative people left on this website, as OC dying out has been happening to all boards for a while. Ok, ok, thanks! I have Xfce on X11 and all my Winamp skins, even those with custom transparency, do have shadows. It looks better like that and more uniform - if it's window, it should have a shadow.
I just wanted to know if Wayland is mature enough for daily use - it isn't.

MATE is the only X11 setup I've ever liked, I prefer hyprland but only just.
>>
>>108173685
winamp works in a way where one instance of it means multiple windows of it, it's probably a kde thing since the whole shadow shtick appears to be coded into the window decoration, which the winamp-like front end of audacious does not make use of, hell, the original winamp on windows doesn't make use of shadows either
>I just wanted to know if Wayland is mature enough for daily use
ive used wayland since like 2021 or 2022, i didn't really run into issues
neither did i run into any issues with x11 as well, i personally didn't find much difference between either, which is why i really don't care about the debate, though i would like it if both continued to coexist together instead of one being marked "obsolete"
>>
>>108173783 (me)
the only reason i'd care about the x11/wayland debate is if i was as hardcore of a user as the x11 schizo (unorthmonk), speaking of, i haven't seen him in a while, wonder how's he doing

I used waybar for a good long while.
Then somewhere around last year they started accepting shitcode (some possibly unmarked AI, some actually marked AI, point is it smells), and half the flags to meson to disable unwanted components now result in compilation errors.
Ultimately I went back to good old sway-bar. The only thing I miss is css styling, but I can just work around that by modifying my wallpaper to have the background hardcoded. Did that back in the day with X11.
I'm honestly tempted to hard fork swaybar and cut all the crap out though.
