My first IT job was an incredibly low-paying but highly educational and enjoyable internship as the sole IT support for a small office of ~20 people at a non-profit. Pay was shit but I think it was worth it. That was just a summer internship

The next/last year of uni I got an internship out of state (in person, this was before covid) and worked as a junior network engineer. After college they hired me full time and that lasted about 2 years but depression and living circumstances drove me to quit and move back to my home state.

I wound up getting a "network engineering" job for a massive company a month before covid hit, but i wasnt actually doing any "network engineering", all they wanted me to do was traverse their clusterfuck of a network with cdp neighbor and document things like the mess of nested switches and what was connected to each, what their ips for this giant security migration project (which i led as well). Day two of the job i said "fuck this" and got into automation and ive been programming ever since (6 years now, the former employer i mentioned was the first 5)

Are you guys doing any future Investments? All I do nowadays is working on my health, physique, and lookmaxxing so I can become the trophy husband of a SEAmonkey.

i've realized that students, managerial types and other non-technical people think AI is the bees knees because they lack the experience to know that the first 50% of a project is typically super easy and fast to do, then the next 25% takes twice as long as that, and then the remaining 25% takes fucking forever due to bugs, oversights, constant rewrites, optimizations, changing scope, coupling issues, critical architecture roadblocks and so on. so even if AI gets you 75% of the way to a full project, you now have to contend with the remaining 25%, except it's going to be be even gayer because an AI wrote the first 75%

No. I skipped the whole Helpdesk thing by sheer luck. Back in 2018 I applied and got a job as a tier 2 admin because I interviewed well and the boss said I had a good mentality or some shit. I stayed for five years, by which point my mentor had left, others were leaving, and we had gotten some indian motherfucker as our boss. I was lucky when I got out. He was racist towards westerners, and would hire the most incompetent out of the talent pool just becuase they believed in Allah or spoke his duduk language.

Anyway, I moved laterally to another place which is pretty much run exclusively by white people, so same tier 2 but with more responsibility with a 45K+ increase in pay. I believe I was hired becuase I got a masters degree. They hire a few token minorities here, but they're professional and decent, we have low turnover and lots of lifers. I often debate leaving for a change of scenery, but then I realize that this may be one of the only companies not actively laying people off. We're in a hiring surplus right now.

I'm 33. No girlfriend. Never been kissed. Dropped out of high school. Zero certifications to my name. I've been rotting away at an IT help desk for 7 years and I hate every single second of it. I'm on discord channels for people in the Vaporwave scene, and saw some of the best artists griping about how they are only making only a few grand off their albums, and these are people making it in an established genre. It's physically draining but not mentally draining. I had to both scan and bag groceries. It becomes like a puzzle game. Getting the things off the conveyor belt quickly and into bags without making them too heavy. Being sure to double bag things like glass bottles. Memorizing all the codes for produce and being able to simply punch them without looking them up. The managers with long term experience taught me how to quickly clear up problems. You can follow the procedure the proper way, holding up your lane for 10 minutes plus to do a price check, frustrating waiting customers. Or you can ring something up for a made up price and move them along. That becomes the strategy for dealing with obnoxious customers too. Just give them what they want and push them out the door.

I did this shit for like a year. I'd be fine doing it for my whole life if it was actually a viable career. But in my free time I was learning the valuable skills that would lead me to a real career.

I need some career advice. I live and work in italy, for context.
Right now I'm working at a semi-government job in "cybersec" which I put in quotes because it's actually just forwarding emails. No growth opportunities, no skill acquisition, shit pay.
I'm about to get an offer from a local body rental agency for another job in cybersec, it's a SOC analyst role, I've heard they are a bad place to work for (local, not a big name) because some people have connections and do no work and everyone else has to pick up slack for them. Probably still bad pay but it might be as much as a 25% increase from my current job.
Lastly I'm waiting on an offer which should be AT LEAST 25% over my current job, at a big fintech place, but as a programmer rather than cybersec.

Ideally I'd pivot to the dev role just for the work environment, but I'm worried about leaving cybersecurity in a landscape where devs are getting replaced by AI. At least in compliance roles that's not possible due to gov regulations, for now.
Is that a funded fear and a sound reasoning? Should I stick with the gov job and suffer the shit pay and dead career?

There are so-called “consultancies” founded by incompetent retarded indians, one of whom I personally knew who used to run a gas station before COVID. These consultancies offer full services that include fake resumes, someone else to handle interviews, connections for job placements, and more. They enable people with little to no coding knowledge, some who haven’t even grasped object-oriented programming, to obtain decent white-collar jobs, sometimes even low six-figure positions, i've seen them help villagers from india get a middle seniority gov job, that perticular case blew me away honestly.

Many workplaces with large numbers of Indian employees are allegedly staffed through these consultancies. Why would these consultancies do this? The answer is fucking loads of money. They maintain leverage over the individuals because fraud has been committed on their behalf and they set them up with a upper middle class lifestyle and In return, those individuals reportedly pay 20–30% of their salary for the first three years. ( or some set amount of years )

The person I mentioned earlier who used to run a gas station is now a multimillionaire. How? By placing hundreds of people into jobs and passively collecting around $10,000–$20,000 per person per year. Stopped by and saw his retarded jeet kids in their million dollar ranch house, ofcourse they all go to TCU.

TLDR; Indians allow cooperations to lower pay, they then pay a cut to their indian consultancies who helped them get the job, all while being untalented, unskilled, ambitious in cooperate politics while having no such ambitions for the art of coding. I'd rather take a fresh grad with no project

I'm an intermediate engineer currently stuck at an easy but dead end web development job. I just declined a founder offer with two naive non-technical people on a GPT wrapper app that have taken mafia money (VC funding). They are throwing every red flag possible but offered me $200K TC.

Across my job search it's very rare to see anyone working on anything even remotely useful anymore. Please tell me these GPT wrappers are going to fall straight on their face as soon as the hype dies down.

my living situation hasn't gotten that bad fortunately. the worst we're dealing with is a giant hole in the roof. an inside portion of it collapsed and was covered up with dry wall that is now molded with some sinister black shit. there's also weird spots along the walls that seems evidence of more mold.
