My KKB WoB doesn't say Lock on the num lock at all, it just says Num. And none of the keycaps have problematic kerning. So I wouldn't say that this is indicative of the quality of all Keykobo sets.

Just bought some Cherry MX2A speed silver switches to replace my Keychron K Pro red switches. The cherry ones are noticeably heavier despite being rated at the same operating force. And more importantly, the cherry ones are just way scratchier. I swear to christ somehow the cheap chinkshit is always better in current year. Am I missing something? Will the cherry switches break in or something, or is cherry just garbage?

Keychron's numbers are straight-up fake. I don't know where they came up with 45gf operating force but it's obvious on e.g. the Theremingoat force curve chart that at 2mm travel it's not even above 40gf. The switch bottoms out at 50gf, whereas pretty much all the main Cherry switches are 60gf bottom-out.

It's something they purportedly introduced with the MX2A. I see countless reviews from 2023 mentioning them, but the barrel shape is (was?) apparently incredibly slight. I honestly don't have a "preference" yet, since I'm still a beginner, and I'm having my first experience with a plastic body, gasket mount, Kailh Box Red keyboard (assuming the first two characteristics matter).
I'm really enjoying it so far, the sound, the smoothness of the clicks, these Reds really have no "feedback" at all but the experience is still positive so far, so at the very least I can safely say I enjoy Linears.
So I'm wondering whether I go for a "higher end" Linear later, or give Tactile a try next.

I need a hotswap 5pin keeb, 60-75%, and I need it to have 1kHz polling rate. Scanning rate should of course be as high as possible. Sound, light, color etc. don't matter. Proper qmk/via implementation is a plus, price up to 100$.

Was going to get a Cidoo qk75, but apparently via isn't implemented properly, and the polling rate seems to be only 125Hz from what I can find online. If this is wrong info and someone could give me a source proving it has 1kHz polling & high scanning rate, I would get that one and be happy.

Just noticed a problem I'd never noticed before. On this keyboard, the upside-down switch on Caps Lock doesn't clack normally at the bottom-out. Is this a thing with north-facing switches in general or is this specific to this board's PCB design somehow? I tried changing out the switch to be sure it wasn't the switch's fault. Every key that isn't oriented normally has a problematic bottom-out: that includes the sideways ones like pipe and numpad + & enter

Oh man these Leopold caps do not play nice with north-facing switches at all. Tried 3.8mm travel switches and still not short enough to stop the keycap hitting the housing. I'm gonna need to look for some 3.6mm or shorter, I think I might have some but not sure

What's the closest thing to a Cherry Brown that has 3.4mm travel or shorter? All the switches I have are either long pole or awful in some other way. I just want something with a light mid-press bump and a rail bottom-out on a Nylon bottom housing. I can be flexible on the housing material if that's the only way to get something that isn't long pole. I'll even take a linear switch if I have to.

Kinda disappointed in my keychron v6 max. The spot above the arrow keys feels like if you press too hard your finger would just break through. The lighting or the keycaps don't allow enough light to come through so some keys I can't tell what they are. If I ever fully clean my widow maker or whatever my razer kb was I'll probably go back to it.

Finally, should get my WoB GMK knock-offs on Monday. Maybe one day I'll be able to splurge out for the real deal with the retro extension on a fancy new board and whatnot, maybe go for a beige board, but for now having keycaps that are at the very least made out of proper plastic that can be seen with just the light of the monitor will be good enough.

Ok yeah it's possible to just sand down the corner on the mx browns and get it to work with keycaps. Doesn't take much. Problem solved.

Yep, it would cost 3x what I'd be willing to pay but at least I'd be content with the purchase. To an extent. I still dislike the 108-key trend that's the most limiting factor due to those four keycaps you can never get just right, and any 104-key base will have something off about it, mainly Keychron catering to Applefags for no reason whenmost MKB retards either use Linux or Windows anyways.

GMK actually has keycaps that aren't retarded with the divide/multiply on the numpad (mea culpa) and has those retro extensions that are exactly what I'd need, but it is GMK so that's one prebuilt board worth of keycaps. Then a 108-key RGB QMK/VIA base would be one prebuilt board worth, then a set of good tactile switches would be another.

Defo gonna suffer with my janky K70 for a while still, fucking hate how there is no work around here.

Just some rambling comparing my GMK and CRP sets:

CRP is noticeably brighter on the whole, closer to a brilliant white. GMK is more warm, a bit closer to what I would consider a true beige.

The legends are obviously sharper on GMK, since they're double shot, but it's honestly not a huge deal. CRP does visually come across as having a heavier weight, though.

The texture on CRP is much nicer - your fingers just glide over the keys. Though I suppose since GMK is ABS it will quickly lose its texture anyways.

With any sub-legend sets that don't match the base letter color, GMK will always use UV protected pad printing, since they do not have the ability to triple shot (and likely never will). This is a huge durability concern given that I've seen GMK UV print only last a year of common use. Obviously CRP is dyesub so it doesn't need to worry about that. Another thing about the GMK pad printing is that it's kind of annoying on the fingers; they feel like stickers on the key.

GMK has recessed keys. This is most noticeable in R4, and I very much prefer this. I wonder why CRP doesn't do recessed keys? It isn't a huge height increase, but it is something I wish they had.

You do not get a nice green Sys Rq on the Print Screen key with GMK, unless you do a special order of their retro kit. Bit of a shame, as a green Sys Rq key is right at home with beige.

The spacebar on CRP is considerably better. It has an even sound on both sides. I think it's just much more 'straight' than the GMK spacebar, since I tested this out on three different GMK spacebars and they all sounded different (uneven sound depending on which side I pressed it).

CRP also gives you more options for the homing keys. You get scoops, bars, and nipples. GMK you only get scoops or bars. As we all know, nipples are superior.

By the way the easiest way to tell if a switch has spring ping, a method I developed myself, is to tap the switch stem against your front tooth. Actually I should update this... I just found a Cherry brown that passed the tooth test but had a barely-discernible ping on the snap release test (where you slide your finger off the edge of the stem while pressing it to cause an extra-sharp release)

I will still use both tests in combination to get the fullest picture I can

I don't think it's that hard to get used to the changes as long as you don't mess with fundamental stuff. Don't swap between regular backspace and HHKB backspace, don't swap the location of ctrl, etc.

The thing I have always fucked up is that I never get enough PCBs. You need to have one board that's for experimenting, but if you only get one PCB for it eventually you'll get stuck on a build you really like and don't want to change. You need to get two PCBs for the experimenting board. And maybe an extra of the plate you're most likely to use, too.

Thanks. Honestly MMD Princess v2 makes the most sense anyway, so I can try tactiles for the first time. And a full set is like 1/2 the price of the Green Fogs, incredibly affordable.

V3s and V4s are worse because their tactility is inferior, seemingly because of coming pre-lubed. When I peeled apart a large number of V4s and removed the lube job to the best of my ability to try and run the switches dry, they were better but still not at the level of V1 and V2 MMD Princesses.

How do I get used to typing on mushy garbage linears? How does everyone do it? I refuse to believe someone can go from a clicky tactile to a linear and then back again. It's too much, you have to stick to one or the other or you'll never be satisfied with both. This is the real reason no one uses clicky tactiles, once you cross the line your collection ends up in the dustbin.
