When I think about it, it really was quite cheap a few years back, it feels like these prices are more 'sensible' for the tech but still, I don't like it.

Some prebuilt PCs might be cheaper than building your own ATM, look for deals that bundle the DDR5 memory.
>>
>>108197976
Buy what you can afford then.
Used ram isn't quite as pricey as new, so maybe look at that.
Make sure you have the ability to test it right there and then if you are buying in person.
Although, unfortunately a conclusive test for memory issues is usually an overnight run.
You should be able to catch very broken ram with a quick one though.
>>
1. Due to that other novice anon building in last thread --- I failed to check if my motherboard had any bent pins
How do I stress test / check for bent pins without removing the heatsink? I'd rather not redo it as that was the most stressful.

2. Is this a good deal ? Can you even open up shitty externals anymore? I bet it's 3D TLC NAND but $50 is $50

OCCT is a decent free stress testing tool. Bent pins are a visiual inspection sort of thing, if the system is running you probably don't have any issue to worry about.

All you can do is do a lot of research on the monitors you're considering, and visit a display showroom to demo it if you can.

It's an ASUS XG34WCDG, I really like the design of these, but goddamn it's unbearable to use if you don't have headphones. How bad would it look if I lowered the resolution to 2560x1440 on a 4k one? My GPU wouldn't be able to run things in native 4k that smoothly (7800 XT).

A TV may not work as well. Most (good) monitors can upscale input resolutions at the hardware level, IDK about your TV.

But do have a look to see if it /works/ for you, a 4k display is excellent for stuff other than /gayming/ and if you can afford the shekels for a good one I highly recommend it. I use a 32" 4k LCD because muh productivity but when setting up my system I tested some gayming stuff with benchmarks and found the monitor upscaling to work well.

Make sure you firmly slotted the memory modules in, I've read plenty of new builders here not putting enough force and it was causing boot up issues.

It must be. My ASRock B450M Steel Legend didn't even make me reboot into a gay little special utility part of the BIOS to update it just let you do it immediately if I remember right. I love this mobo regardless. I already am 300 points above the normal R26 multicore score without touching anything yet with it plus the great cooling I have.

Hm, what I read online Samsung does produce annoying coil whine and Philips also, especially with the ambilight. I have a fear that all these huge 21:9 panels whine at some point. For now I'm trying to avoid monitors with built in PSU, because those are the main culprit for these annoying high-pitched noises. Currently I'm on a PG27AQDM, which has external PSU and it has 0 whine at any setting. However it's only 16:9, so I can't really compare it to a 21:9, which probably needs higher amperage.

XL is way too big for most people, but Fractal is profit-maxxing with the Meshify 3's relatively short case length.
They're getting away with it because people still buy Fractal cases and it cools the GPU decently.
Meshify 3's maximum supported GPU length is 10cm shorter than the Meshify 2's.

I just need to hold my hand behind the rear fan and feel the warm air to convince myself that having those actually makes sense. What doesn't make sense though is putting resistance to the air stream with a stupid grille that leaves only small holes. I have no hairy pets, I can afford to have efficient cooling by leaving larger holes in the grille. This annoys me because cutting out the grille is tedious work as I know from experience.

Perhaps install an E-ATX mobo, install a long GPU or even two, install a 420 rad in top, install another radiator (perhaps for the GPUs) in the side or front or a custom loop even and you will see that the case is correctly sized to allow for all of this. Such cases are of course not intended for people who know they never want more than a minimalist build like that. Makes no sense to get it for this.

people buying 8GB cards don't expect to play games on ultra, and are primarily playing esports anyways.

Why are Ryzen 9 5900 and 5945 still so expensive? They're not the fastest AM4 CPUs by a long shot. I hoped people would want to max out their AM4s with 5900XT and 5950X and the 5900 would be forgotten and dirt cheap by now.

>>108200106
can your GPU max it out?
I would go 60 hz for casuals and retards, 240 hz for everybody else.
>>
>>108200106
MiniLED is a far greater upgrade than another 60Hz on top of 180. I would go for a 4k screen (mini LED as well, they're quite affordable), but if you're happy with 1440p then it's fine.

Actually, I seems like the issue was just the memory training. After it just sat there for like 5 minutes it suddenly turned on and I could boot from a USB.

You should have bought Noctua™. You're not poor, are you? If you don't own a full set of Noctua™ fans as well as the Noctua™ hoodie and the Noctua™ screwdriver you don't belong in /pcbg/.

Thanks
How is the thickness of Thermalright cases? I was wary that they'd be paper thin

Yes, I have a 175 hz 1440p ultrawide I bought not that long ago. Very happy with it.
Also, high refresh rates with LCD displays are a bit of a meme. The response time, in spite of what it advertises on the box often can't keep up with the refresh rate.
Go OLED if you want to go 200+ hz

I mentioned a few threads ago that I got a 6tb WD Red drive for $60. The thing is, it has 38k power on hours, but it has zero bad sectors, write/read errors, etc., it seems to be in sterling health according to crystaldiskinfo. Should I be worried at all? Would it be better as cold storage powered off instead of in my PC?
>>
>>108200293
Nothing you care about should be stored in one place, so, if you're doing that, I wouldn't worry.

only in competitive games like CS2 and Apex

max 100 fps AAA single player slop

>>108200201
too weak for 4k. do you own a miniled? how good is it?
>>
>>108200316
You know that's not what I mean, but, realistically, data and documents should be stored in at least two geographically distinct locations, if you want to be sure not to lose them.
Now there's probably some diminishing returns there unless you live somewhere where it regularly is on fire or floods.

What are the best value 2160p IPS monitors right now? I really would like something that isn't laggy but has accurate colors. My old BenQ PD series is a chore to drag the mouse cursor with its input lag.

When are Asrock motherboards going to be safe? I really want to buy the x870e Tachi because it's the only modern motherboard with 6 sata ports but too paranoid about the x3d CPUs dying.

Yes, the KTC M27P6 recommended in the OP.
>how good is it?
Not flawless but it's a massive upgrade over a regular LED backlight. Contrast is greatly improved and the annoying IPS glow you see on usual IPS panels is greatly reduced by the dimming backlight. HDR looks great, it's really punchy and impressive while non-mini LED IPS panels can't actually do HDR at all (if they support it, it looks totally awful).

The local dimming works in SDR as well, you don't need HDR for it to work, and its benefits are still very visible in video games and movies. It has a bit of a problem in SDR, namely something looks wrong with the contrast of small elements on black / very dark backgrounds (they look brighter than they should be, not like there's haloing but like a shade of gray looks lighter than it should). Haven't seen this in HDR so I think it has something to do with whatever processing it's doing to use local dimming in SDR.

The haloing that local dimming monitors suffer from is only really visible in shit like desktop program UIs, especially if you have something in a dark theme with a lot of evenly colored dark grey areas, you will see some haloing around other UI elements. In games and video I never really see it at all, not in HDR and not in SDR. Still this means that it's sometimes better to turn local dimming off when you don't need it. Fortunately you can do this by sending the monitor a command over DDC/CI and as such you can make a hotkey for it, don't need to fiddle with the joystick every time.

Other than the SDR local dimming issue and the rare haloing I described I don't have anything to complain about with this screen. I bought it because it was quite cheap and my old monitor had died, so I wanted to get something quick as a replacement, but I'm actually very happy with it and don't intend to upgrade any time soon, not unless something revolutionary comes around.
