Context. All I know about Raku is it was called Perl 6. I despised Perl 5.
>>108442305The language still isn't usable for serious purposes. It has many ugly edge cases everywhere and it is too slow, maybe not compared to python but compared to JITed scripting languages. The VM's main lead quit a few years ago and the language's performance hasn't improved in several years. Some people with a brain suggest to clean up the language a bit, make it more consistent and more simple so that it can be made to run faster but any time someone does, the troon in pic rel says that no, that there is nothing wrong with the language, that's the language's design doesn't prevent good performance, claims that you are toxic from suggesting it and maneuvers the Raku's equivalent of a Code of Conduct commitee to ban you. He will even smear you (look at the various titles of the last link). He's such a fucking disgusting manipulative hypocrite with how shit he treats people, the way he's condescending, argues in bad faith, throws fits, frames you in a certain way. It's like he's using all the manipulative tricks in the book. It's disgusting that all the main contributors involved don't call him out and they are themselves not better, one big circlejerk. He's the one behind the bans, he's always vocal everywhere (Reddit, IRC, github) and control what can you say and always controlling discussions about what could change in the language, like he's in charge, which is seems to be. Absolutely repulsive. On the technical and skill perspective, he doesn't know what he's talking about, he made thousands of commits over many years but only about irrelevant things in the standard library or about the langauge frontend, he's not skilled enough to touch the VM, less so about having the correct opinions on compiler and performance matters.
https://github.com/Raku/problem-solving/issues/238>I think it's too bad that AlexDaniel, who has done amazing things for Raku in the past, has turned this negative and this toxic. But it's come to the point that I'm seriously considering leaving the Raku project because of him, and that is something I dearly do not want to happen.https://github.com/Raku-Steering-Council/Papers/blob/244387b7d261b0261fabec4ff4cc672579f5d821/announcements/20201030.md>For that reason, Elizabeth Mattijsen initiated a voting procedure in the RSC. Since she was the initiator of the procedure, she also added herself as an option for eviction:jesus christ
why people care that much if they can work for free for people that don't want them in the project?

>>108442954Let me illuminate you. When I was a wee lad, I had very little going in my life. I wasn't sportsy, I wasn't handsome, and I wasn't a big nerd. So I was drifting along life without even a niche to call my own. That's when contributing to other people's projects gave me dopamine spikes.I'd get excited whenever my pull requests were merged, or even just when I got a developer to talk to me.One time I stood up until 5 AM fixing a random guy's server issues, for free.TL;DR I was a retard with nothing better to do than let people exploit me.And yet I still look back at those times fondly. It's me. I am the retard.
