I have a WiFi question (ethernet isn't practical in my house, and I don't game)

I was going to get a WiFi extender like pic related, but apparently some routers can be put into a "repeater" mode, so they function just like a WiFi extender. So I might buy a router which can do this.

Have any of you done this? Will the router have the same extending performance of a dedicated extender? I hope so.

I'm asking about power delivery, not specific pinout. Plus, the pcie 6 and 6+2 are standard. the 8pin still has the same amount of +12V pins, so I don't particularly understand how it leads to more power delivered.

>>108548582
it has 3 12v pins instead of 2 12v so it can use more current but thats up to the psu as it can be single rail or multi rail

>>108548614
this general is fucking retarded. fuck I regret asking a question.
>>
>>108548619
What does it even matter? The PSU either supplies enough power or the electronic to work.
>>
>>108548582
A cable that only has a 6 pin will be rated for a lower amperage(and thus wattage) than an 8 pin or more commonly a 6+2 pin. the additional pins don't really add much in terms of current capability, but tell either the card or the psu that the cables in the 8 pin are capable of a higher current by way of being a heavier gauge than the typical 6 pin. It's been a while since I've seen a dedicated 6pin though. It appears to be a cost savings measure for the atx standard that backfired rather hilariously.
>>
>>108548582

6+2 might have like six wires in psu and two wires are y to to six plus two to pcie power

Even if they nearly double the price of a console, so long as they sell me a packaged solution that is no more than 80% the cost of a comparable diy mini itx I might still go for it.
The value in something like this is in having my existing libraries. I don't own any ps5 or xbox/microshit games I don't think. But everything is either pirated from ages ago, or one of the three platforms.
I very nearly bought a ps5 after news that it was possible to run linux on it, but it turns out to be a very niche way of doing it and only on older firmwares.

I have an old 850W EVGA Supernova G3 purchased around its release date in 2017 (heavy usage, mostly gaming, since then). I was thinking of upgrading my graphics card to a 9070XT, but I know that PSUs degrade over time and that newer cards have bad transient spikes. Also iirc EVGA is dead now. I bought a VA monitor for the contrast, but the viewing angles are a real problem. I thought it was just people complaining that the picture looks bad when you look at the monitor from sideways. I wouldn't give a shit about that but it's so much worse, the better contrast basically only applies to the small patch of monitor that is directly in front of my eyes, and there is a really noticable gamma shift between the middle and the edges even when I look at the monitor from the center, from not particularly close. Never had a VA monitor before, is this considered normal?
I'm going to return this anyway because dead pixels, but now I'm wondering if VA is worth it? OLED is not in the budget and I hate the IPS contrast.
Is the gamma shift less jarring with curved panels?

Mini LED backlights have very narrow viewing angles. Normal edge lit VA doesn't have this issue as much. But comes with backlight bleed potential issues. Same for IPS. OLED solves all of these but come with 10 other issues that will eventually push you towards VA for peace of mind.

Please tell me what their differences are to the ucdm, because google told me that the ucdmr had the proximity sensor and dp 2.1, now while I can confirm the regular ucdm has only dp 1.4, i absolutely have the proximity sensor on this monitor, even though google told me I don't AND neither does ASUS's actual website, can literally see the proximity sensor on the monitor, and when its enabled it works when i wave my hand over it.

So basically, I don't actually know for sure what the difference between the z, r etc models are, and apparently dp 1.4 is meant to be indistinguishable to 2.1 or something.

Basically, I got a damn good panel and i think the extra bits arent really worth paying an extra $200 when i got this one on deal

ucdmz is pretty much the same but with the newer version of the promixity shit or some shit
ucdmr has different io and different back design no aux or something and integrated power supply in the monitor and yes dp2.1
ucdm had higher input lag at 60hz

the ucdmr pretty much on sale at the same price all the time now as the ucdm so no point in not getting that here

but ucdm3 is the one to get now

ucdm still overpriced even with the price cuts

OLED still sucks for monitors and burn in/uniformity is still an issue, which wouldn't be a problem if they had a long warranty like the TVs, but they don't. You get like 1 year parts and labour and 2 years of parts. At least the TVs come with 5 years minimum because of European laws.

i bought "like new" via amazon resale for £597, the screen itself was still covered in factory seals, all i saw that made it not new was damage to the delivery box, and some of the accessories had their bags already opened, but it came with everything like a new purchase.

also, i am kind of burnt out from buying a new pc lately, i was saving for a monitor, was going to either get the ucdm3 version or the asus ultrawide curved strix 34" oled, but i sold some old pc parts on ebay and had enough for this

i got it cause it was one of the best cheaper non-asrock boards wrt VRM temps. I don't care about most expansion/io things since I never use them so my discriminators on mobo choice are pretty limited.

I don't mind using framegen. I already needed to use it with dlaa and path tracing.
I guess my question is how much better of an experience is the bump in resolution (and brightness also I guess) and is it worth the tradeoff.

Instead of putting very large and thick heatsinks over VRMs and the IO panel that may or may not collide with an AIO in a tight case, why don't they just put an integrated fan in there instead? Change the whole heatsink block into a blower style unit with thinner internal fins. Might very well weigh less and its not like the fan has to be heavy duty.

So I want to build a Mini-ATX that will be used entirely for gaming on a TV in my living room, but I'm not sure what specs would be suitable. I'm looking for something that can play PCSX2 at 4K (which would probably be the most demanding thing I'd run) and also everything else on it would be PS1 or Nintendo emulators.

>Country
Australia
>Budget
Not sure, as I don't how much power I'd need to run PCSX2 in 4K on a Mini-ATX.
>>
>>108554822
buy a 9070 xt now and a 7800x3d and build a system and next year buy a 11800x3d and a rdna 80 series card and use the old build in a htpc case in the living room
>>
>>
>>108554875
That's all a lot more than I was looking at spending and is probably way more power than I actually need for such a basic emulation. I was imagining a budget around 800USD or less for the whole build, while that graphics card alone is about 700USD. Even a tablet can run PS1 emulators at 4K with no problems, so I probably don't need a massive card for PCSX2.
>>
I'm thinking about selling the 9070 I bought last year, do I upgrade to a 5070ti or 5080?
>>
>>108554908
ps3 and ps4 emulation are becoming really good, you'll soon want more than ps2, but anyway, for ps2 I'd say a 3060 12gb + zen 3 am4, if you can get a 5500x3d, probably a good deal

I still have the original consoles but also most of the games on Steam now (except MGS4 obviously but that's being re-released). I'm pretty content with just having an early PlayStations emulator and some old Nintendo thrown in, also maybe Dreamcast.

>3060 12gb + zen 3 am4, if you can get a 5500x3d
Isn't mixing Nvidia and AMD kinda weird? I'm still a little new to building computers.

>>108554940

>>108554932
>do I upgrade to a 5070ti or 5080?
Depends.

If you're just looking for an nvidia card then don't bother and go for a 5070.

If you're looking for something to do heavy video editing and need the extra vram then go for a 5070ti.

If you absolutely need to run games at the highest settings you can at 4k tyen go for the 5080.

The 5070ti isn't worth the upgrade compared to a 5070 for gaming alone, and the 5080 isn’t worth the upgrade from a 5070ti for workflow alone.

The 5070ti and 5060ti 16gb are inly really useful for things that require more vram than compute, but the 5070ti is in no way lax on performance it's just that the 5080 actually gets the most out of the bandwidth increase of the 16gb.

Over all the 5070 is the best deal, the 5060ti (16gb) is the best deal for vram alone, and the 5070ti is the best deal for actual out put.

This isn't factoring in the 5090 and 4090 of course. Those cards actually function for quick on time real use that is time sensitive, but the same could be said of actual workstation cards.

Really random stuff like firefox hardware acceleration, hardware acceleration in general, my old monitor wasn't compatible with my new amd card lol (not amd's fault but still, annoying).
I switched (4 years ago) to amd from nvidia because everyone kept raving on about how amd works so much better than nvidia on linux, but I found I just replaced nvidia problems with amd problems. If the prices were the same I would 100% choose nvidia now especially, but honestly, thinking about it now, I probably will just tank the amd autism for the cheaper price

Gossip says there was this epic shitposter, alias "baron fartkonnen", he came with epic demands when the brand wars split the OG pcbg thread into red and green once again. Autists fighting over their favourite trillion vs billion dollar company. Ugly sight. Just the usual barbaric behaviour.

Then this epic dude called "baron fartkonnen" sent his unexpected reply army to artifically keep the dying nvidia thread alive and when the nvidia thread got uncomfortably strong and powerful the OP of AMD thread, 'general farturdius' himself personally visited Baron Fartkonnen in the green thread to bow down in front of the Baron's might and beg for immediate sapport and withdrawal of his troops.

The mighty baron sent his reply army to the amd thread and since then the nvidia thread is a desolate wasteland, only a plaything of mighty shitposters.

Unfortunately the baron got too comfortable and openly insulted the origin country (india) of the one we call 'unclean janitor' and the janitor himself came for all the baron's replies. The whole grand army disappeared in a blink of an eye. No one raised his word for Baron Fartkonnen, in fact the constant autistic reporting brought his ill fate.

Im pretty sure a powerful person like baron fartkonnen is not disappearing without a word like that. One day he will come back with fury and change the landscape of the pcbg threads once again.

QD OLED monitors are the worst of all the OLED options because of the dual modes which both fail to utilize the monitor to its full capacity which is well documented. WOLED is way better at the moment.

It's a fact that monitors have a lesser warranty period which is telling because OLED monitors are the most prone to static elements and thus burn in so having a shorter warranty length means burn in is far more likely after 2-3 years of usage as companies don't want to make guarantees for longer, despite the same companies offering 5 years on their OLED TVs. For example I can buy a flagship LG G5 and get 5 year burn warranty with the purchase. Whereas I can buy a flagship LG UltraGear 32GS95UE monitor and it only comes with a 2 year warranty.

I'm losing hope in Radeon
Lately, the rumors haven’t been very favorable for the red side. There are indications that AMD may not provide support for the future FSR Diamond on the Radeon RX 9000 lineup. If that actually happens, it would be a pretty bad decision for both the company and its users, since such an important technology would end up being restricted to future GPU generations.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Nvidia continues to maintain a very solid ecosystem. In this scenario, if an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 and an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT have the same price, for example, it's perfectly understandable that someone would choose an RTX 5070. Some reasons include:

Better professional applicability, with stronger optimization (Blender, AI workloads, Adobe Creative Cloud programs);
Better upscalers (DLSS 4.5 + DLDSR);
Reflex 2 support (coming soon);
Considerably better support for MFG and path tracing;
Lower VRAM consumption and better memory management in games (GDDR7);
Longer driver support and more "democratic";
More promising future technologies focused on improving visual realism and performance in games and 3D applications (RTX Neural Shaders, RTX Neural Texture Compression, RTX Neural Faces, etc.).

At this point, I’m feeling pretty hopeless about Radeon.

We can't deny that the FSR 4.0.3 4.1 upscaler is excellent! In ray tracing, AMD can compete on equal footing and sometimes even surpass Nvidia. But the point I'm considering is what other users have mentioned: the lack of support for the 6000 and 7000 series was a big mistake, and we don't want that to happen again.
>>
>>108558574
both should be black squares because the radeon driver crashed again and ryzen is stuck on memory training

There's no link, I did in my local country's PC builder website.
The prices are:
1. Case: ~125 USD
2. PSU: ~100 USD
3. Motherboard: ~310 USD
4. CPU: ~545 USD
5. GPU: ~1270 USD
6. CPU cooler: ~80 USD
7. RAM (32 GB): ~535 USD
8. SSD (2 TB): ~315 USD
>>
>>108558814
Well I have no idea what things actually cost in your country but I'm assuming you can go way cheaper on the case, motherboard, and cooler.
For the gpu check pricing on the 5070 and 5060ti, cpu you don't need a 9800x3d, if the 9600x or 7600x are like $250ish just buy one of those.
>>
>>108558833
How do I really choose a case and a motherboard? That seems to be the hardest thing
>>
>>108558814
you dont need 310 usd mobo
you dont need 545 usd cpu
ram is insane now, wait a lil
gpus are insane now, wait a lil
you dont need 125 usd case
you dont need 80 usd cpu cooler

all things considered ram goes down considerably, gpus go down a good 10-15%, then you get the best value/performance stuff and you can do it for around 2k or less. most important part is always gpu.
>>
>>108558851
Motherboard you should just be asking "do I need so-and-so from this more expensive model" until you get to what's acceptable
Case if you want to go really cheap without niger rigging or just going without, you can buy a cheap chinese open air frame thing

I think AMD has lost all of their customers
I have supported the underdog for years now, I always considered them to have customer care which is fair and customer centric.

That is however until RDNA2 cards stopped getting support, RDNA3 isnt getting any form of FSR4 even though we know it works and wouldnt be a great deal of effort for them to implement.

So here, I am with my 7800xt considering just selling it and going back to team green who hate their customers but at least offer the more compelling software support.

I dont expect anyone to care but I find it so frustrating that AMD have done this, its killed my optimism for the alternative. The worst part being I have 3 people using PCs in my house and every single one is AMD.

if your top priority is comfort nothing beats a pair of ksc-75's with the parts express headband mod. they're the most comfortable headphones out there, and can sound pretty decent with eq. the only downside is they don't have any sub-bass to speak of.
they have two durability issues: the stock cable sucks, and its easy to blow out the voice coil on the drivers.
but they're only 10 bucks when they break.

>both hurting and deaf
>airpods pro
those are iem's not earbuds. earbuds are the ones that just sit on your ear and don't go inside it. if you want to give an earbud a shot i'd recommend the qian 39 its around 10 bucks, sounds alright, and has smaller-than-standard sized shells which makes them very comfy for a lot of people.
same downside as the koss's i recommended: showerhead earbuds have no sub-bass.

So this morning I was playing Black Myth Wukong on my PC, and after that I started Batman Arkham Knight, 10 minutes the game and I notice some heavy stuttering and the game crashed.

I got the Radeon notification that GPU driver failed.

So I waited and restarted the game and now my monitor goes completely black, like vanta nigger black, my secondary screen which is like a raspberry pi small 8" screen I use to monitor temps and all also went down, it is also connected to the gpu.

I had to hard shutdown my PC and turn it on, now my secondary screen is not turning on at all and once the PC booted it's all stuttery a bit as if no graphic drivers are installed.

I try to run Adrenaline app and it says "there's a problem with Adrenaline app, download the latest compatible version from amd.com"

So I do download it, and after installing the drivers the installer says "Oops something is wrong with your graphics device you faggot lol".

I have tried DDU, I have tried checking the GPU physically, nothing wrong with it at all, the connectors not burnt(it's 2x8pin connectors).

And I guess it just died there's nothing else I could come to, I'm thinking about buying an RTX 5070 or just Transitioning already

Goes back to my original point that after you do research you end up back at VA and probably mini LED because of the HDR capability. There's too much uncertainty around OLED since it's literally a tech with a shelf life. Doesn't matter how many preventative measures they include, they can't prevent the rapid decline of the organic material in the pixels. And the questionable warranty periods further add to the uncertainty. People want their monitor to last 3+ years without developing burn in but that is not the case if you're an enthusiast. OLED is enthusiast tech with enthusiast pricing that will destroy itself if you use it like an enthusiast.

Should have spent "a few" more bucks and enjoy state of the art and lack of frustration...
That's what I'm thinking . This forum for months has been full of justly disappointed people (including myself). And today was the peak.

I wouldn't be here if I had 5070ti. I wouldn't read all this AMD-inflicted pain that y'all are translating into reddit posts.

Just note for myself from the future:

Don't rely on temporary emotions when deciding what product to buy. Nvidia is shitty but state of the art is state of the art. Of course they are ripping people off, who doesn't? But it's just money, you will be better off with a few dollars less but better mental heath. Just search "Redstone launch" or "FSR4 int8" and remind yourself what you want (what you are paying for) to avoid.

im a kickboxer my jaw has been broken multiple times the only iem's i can wear without pain are shallow insertion ones. but i have very large ear holes so i can never get a consistent seal with shallow insertion iem's. when i listen to music with them the sub-bass cuts in and out constantly depending on how i shift my jaw/tongue. at that point i'd rather just use earbuds and not have any sub-bass to begin with.

VA has objectively worse viewing angles than IPS but significantly better contrast, brightness and colour volume (saturation and brightness of colours). There's a reason that basically every OLED rival is a mini LED VA panel, because the tech is already great and can be enhanced even further with extra complementary tech like full array local dimming and wide angle viewing layers (usually only on TVs though). If viewing angles for a secondary monitor is all you care about then IPS is fine. Just don't expect miracles. For a primary monitor you want to be looking at mini LED and OLED for HDR gaming.

I was a huge fan of AMD. I've had many gpus over the years, ranging from the hd 7970, r9 390, and currently the 6900xt. I also have bought a 3700x, then 5800x, then a 5700x3d in support of a "good company".

After AMD moved RDNA 1 & 2 to "maintenance mode," they've shown their true intentions of prioritizing short-term profits over long-term customer satisfaction and return customers.

For reference, my previous gpu, a 980 ti received day 0 game optimizations for over 10 years. AMD's 6900xt couldn't even make it 5 full years.

Due to their lack of priority support for a very capable architecture that is likely still being sold, as well as other blunders such as the Radeon Vii ending support after only 2 or 3 years, I can no longer recommend them to family/friends or my employer (part of my job is provide hardware upgrade paths for our 1,500+ servers).

Goodbye AMD 6900xt and future purchases. Hello Nvidia 5070 Ti. I sadly hope Intel can save us all from these two companies.

Edit: This goes far beyond "day-0" support. At the end of the day, AMD backpedaled. They wanted to reduce support for RDNA 1 & 2 but the backlash was bad, so they corrected to save themselves.

The fact they played into "amd ages like fine-wine" to sell objectively inferior products, then attempted to reduce support for products still in their prime, is telling. At this point, it's prevalent they will drop support for products they're STILL selling as early as possible.

Hell, they were still selling vega powered laptops a couple years ago that had noticeably bad, "maintenance" support.

You wait for deals on websites to buy your chosen specs at the best price point.

This also means buying used, buying refurbished parts where it is safe to do so. My CPU was 2nd hand but the shop offers 5 year warranty, a no brainer. My motherboard was Amazon resale, a bit of a gamble to be honest but I registered the product with ASUS's website and learned the warranty is good until like 2027.

If you are seriously on budget, consider buying all used parts to stay on spec, or make a healthy compromise now and buy like a 14700k and 4070 build or something if it's cheap enough, the performance charts don't lie, the previous generation or hardware especially for intel and Nvidia are still really good.

Should I go for AIO CPU cooling or not? I feel like it would be nice to build a custom water cooling loop, but I'm too retarded and don't want to bother anyway, so AIO is the only choice for water cooling for me. But if I use it, it feels kinda weird that I'm water cooling the CPU, but still air cooling the GPU.
Should I go for water cooling at all? Or should stick to air cooling?

I own both an OLED TV and a mini LED TV and they are definitely competitors. They are acknowledged as competitors in the market too. Sony's last gen and next gen flagships are both mini LED. According to RTINGS several of the flagship mini LEDs including from cheap brands like Hisense are competitive with OLED in terms of measurable contrast too. OLED is a stopgap tech before micro LED and similar come out just like plasma was the stop gap tech before it

Mini LED is objectively better for competitive games in several ways such as full screen brightness because it doesn't have ABL like OLEDs suffer from. A mini LED in SDR with brightness cranked to max is the best way to play games like BF6 which get darker and have brightness fluctuations in HDR. We're talking a 2x difference in full screen brightness between the two with most OLEDs capping out at 200-300 nits while even a cheap Chinese mini LED can hit 700 nits +.

Not in SDR it doesn't. That's the point. In SDR OLEDs are notoriously shit whereas any modern LCD can be cranked up to max brightness with no dimming issues. The reason why the G5 might have good HDR numbers is because HDR is notorious for brightness fluctuations even based on how bright your HUD is in any particular moment which is shit for games like BF6 where HDR is darker than SDR anyway.
