HI guys, my pc restarts randomly and usually it happens when i am NOT playing anything, it happened ONCE when playing valorant mostly on like chrome when its on idle, sometimes when i am downloading something

This never happened before, it started give or take 3 months after i built the pc

I've not changed much in bios apart from the ram thing that lets it run at 3000mhz

I have a PCIe Gen 5 mobo and PCIe Gen 5 5060 ti but even if I try to force it in BIOS it runs at PCIE 3.0
This is noticeably hurting my performance since 5060 ti doesn't have the full 16x pcie lanes so I'm running at 8x PCIe 3.0 which is raping my cards bandwidth.
How do I fix this?

A year ago I was kind of retarded when building my PC, got a 9800X3D + 5070ti but an mATX case, ASRock B850M Pro-A and a Bronze 750w PSU, now I get black screens sometimes when playing demanding games and the pc is really noisy but can't fit better fans.

You can manually set resolutions to ultrawide etc on monitors that don't support it, the game will just look fucked up but as long as it boots up and shows an FPS, all of your hardware is technically processing at the resolution you set.

This is what SSD I have in the current computer that is a Chinese X79 bootleg experiment that ended up as a media/light gaming box at the mountain house. It's starting to act weird, well it's always been a little weird but now it's stumbling with even light work loads. The only one I found is the Meshify 3, but I don't really care for the fact they have custom fan connectors. The Define 7 looks decent, but has very poor airflow.

Not happening it would seem or any other changes sadly. Wouldn't really make sense anyway the goal with this is to make some final bit of cash off AM4 owners who haven't upgraded yet and new builders that don't wanna pay DDR5 prices. I’m dealing with a really odd instability issue that I haven’t been able to pin down. I’m asking you to look with me and perhaps someone more knowlegable than me can help me figure out and more importantly, fix this!

System:
Ryzen 7 7800X3D (NH-D15)
MSI B650 Tomahawk WiFi
32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR5-6000 CL30 (currently running JEDEC 4800, EXPO off)
RX 7900 XTX (XFX Merc 310)
Samsung 980 Pro 2TB (OS drive)
Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2TB (data drive)
Corsair HX1000i (2023)

Timeline:
PC was built mid 2023 and ran completely stable on Windows 10 for 2½ years.

A couple of weeks ago I enabled EXPO, and after that: System failed to boot (either bootloop or unresponsive on desktop (mouse moved).

Some searching found more people with similar build had similar problems, and were fixed by turning EXPO off again. So I did.
Instability remained until I did a CMOS reset (via shorting the pins on the MB).
I did update the BIOS then from March 2023 to July 2025 version.

That gave me a stable enough system to boot and run games on. Allthough with frequent (1 to multiple times per session) GPU driver crashes.

And a general ‘something insnt right’ feeling.


I thought “eh” I don’t have a lot to lose, so lets do a clean windows install. Backed up some foto’s on my data drive and formatted the OS drive. And a clean win11 install.

At first that seemed to have fixed it, stable system. Installation of programs fine. What you’d expect. But within hours apps stopped launching, start menu became unresponsive and later wouldn’t open, even something like display settings netted an error after a 5min wait. And even task manager wouldn’t open. Felt to me like: “corrupted windows”

So then I did another fresh install, everything was backed up anyway. But I suspect you feel it coming. The same issue, responsive for a couple of hours up to a day. And then during something (seemingly) trivial. It breaks: installing a program or even recovering from sleep mode.

I tried some BIOS settings because I suspected bad training state RAM (MCR off, PDM off)
And that stayed stable for a little wile longer. So I ran some tests:
MemTest86: clean 4 passes
OCCT CPU extreme: 1 hour. Clean
Samsung magician says drives are healthy and drivers up to date.
sfc/scannow: no violations

And yet shortly after, it broke again, during something trivial.

Instead of reinstalling Win11, I tried to boot in safe mode, and it did! Fully responsive!
Event viewer saw: DistributedCOM / Service Control Manager errors (no WHEA or Disk errors)

I disabled all (non microsoft) start-up programs in both TaskManager and msconfig and relaunched normal boot. And we booted normally!

Then one by one I eliminated apps by turning them on again and booting until I found the culprit; Steam.
When I let steam startup with the rest, my PC is unworkable. And the funny thing is, when I launch steam after, it stays responsive.

I’ve been playing a rather CPU intensive game for 1+ hour, and its stable.

My takes:
It’s not a corrupted (steam or windows) install, because it recreates after fresh installs of either
My hardware seems healthy too
My timings and voltages are reset and EXPO is off, so it also doesn’t look like BIOS settings.

What can it be? And how do I fix it?!
Help me fix my system and sanity?!

or satisfactory, i found it much more relaxing than factorio since resources never run out and there's no base defense component
starcraft 2 co-op mode is weirdly relaxing, it's PVE (not 2v2) and once you've played it enough to learn the map pool you can log in and comp stomp a few rounds with randos online. was just playing earlier today actually

I was discussing with another user about the benefits of OLED monitors and he mentioned something akin to

As far as specs, the brightness of TVs-used-as -monitors like the LG C-series (I wish they had the fucking G series in sizes smaller than 55" if the panel is better than C in some cases) doesn't seem on paper any different than a comparable "monitor" even made by the same company. Not to mention there's currently some discussion about what sizes of C6 will use what panels (some say that only the 77" and above will use Tandem, with everything else using standard WOLED , but someone at rtings said they heard that the 48" may use Tandem but we won't know until they test multiple sizes etc) .

I've been using a 42" LG C2 as a monitor and for years it was basically best of its kind, but now we're getting newer generations of OLEDs over the past 5 years with different tech and, I'm thinking of looking into one of the new LG Tandem panel monitors (either the 4K 32", or some of the 5K ultrawides if they have the same panel type and other features) so that I could get 4K/240hz and bunch of other upgraded specs vs the 4K/120hz of my C2, and it would be nice to have something with a DisplayPort options instead of just HDMI so long as the HDMI Consortium is going to shit the bed about FOSS driver support and force it to be rolled back to HDMI 2.0b which can't handle 4K/120 4:4:4 etc

I am dealing with a very specific issue, and I don't know whether ask on pcbg or here.
I am dual booting my PC with Linux Mint and win10, Mint is my daily drive while Win10 is for some applications that are incompatible. Each OS has its own dedicated NVME SSD connected to the mobo. I also have a 9070XT. When I boot the first thing it does is boot onto GRUB to choose the drive I'm booting from, but sometimes my PC won't register the GPU at all, my MSI B850 witll display a white ligth indicating no GPU detected. It is usually solved by rebooting the PC.
I have reseated the card, there is no sag and it stands perfectly level. No glitches or artifacts, games run buttery smooth, all benchmarks within expected results
Any hints as of where the issue could be?

Will it really do that with a linux file system without you going out of your way to kludge it into doing so? I'm just curious the use case because at least last I recall dual booting with Win10 admittedly, it could fuck around and identify the other drives but basically saw them as 'foreign' things not to fuck with with different file systems etc.

That's really shitty though, it should be possible disable drive by drive in the UEFI/BIOS. If your mobo doesn't let you do it that seems pretty unfortunate. Did you check out the AsRock forums and/or confirm this is the case and its not an issue of having to fuck around in the boot settings and have it simply ignore certain drives visibility? Seems like the kind of thing you should give feedback to AsRock about if it really can't be done. Last I checked my Asus board has has no problem with it and people used to claim that now AsRock is "the good part of Asus, but cheaper" but I've almost always had a pretty good experience with Asus especially on the higher end ROG "named" boards (ie Crosshair, Rampage, Maximus etc). when it came to Linux compatibility and board feature autism.

I'll have to check again but I seem to remember that my Asus ROG Crosshair X670E has (or had) an option in the boot/drive menu to disable a given drive entirely. It may depend on what CSM features you have enabled though; I had to temporarily fall back to CSM on (and thus resizable BAR off) in order to get one of my old Win10 installs originally from a previous system to show up and make it bootable. However you can also turn off CSM and make certain drives non-bootable and in some cases things don't show up at all if you disable it.

I started doing machine learning and since I use windows and docker, and its a heavy setup, 32GB if ram is not enough, if I am running training I have to shut down my whole data pipeline because it becomes impossible

Laptop is running 32GB DDR5, desktop 32GB DDR4, I wasted my chances of getting 64GB when it was cheap in September, now I am SOL, not sure what to do.

Laptop is not running any ML, but it does run a redundant data pipeline, so when it does, I can only really watch youtube and browse, if I had 64GB I would be able to game at least.

Desktop is fully fucked with 32GB, so question is do I get 64GB, or jump to 4 slots x 24GB or 4x32GB which would be a little bit of an overkill I think, but nowadays 64GB is minimum if you are a power user, jumping to 128GB is a little intimidating.
