Which is better for ergonomics?
>TKL or smaller where mouse is closer to a neutral position
>"ergonomic" keyboard with huge space in the middle, but mouse is farther out since it's as larger or larger than a regular 100%

how difficult is it to desolder switches from a keyboard and install hotswap sockets?
>>
>>108703847

>>
>>108704298
The keyboard market isn't sustainable anymore with the rising prices of inputs. Basically, anything made from plastic with low margins is gonna be fucked in the next six months. Filco and Geonworks are just the first to fall.
>>
>>108704448
I imagine the issue for that is how long it takes. If you want to try new switches, get a cheap hotswap board from china.
>>
>>108704448
I don't think it's feasible to mod a non-hotswap board into a hotswap one. Both the PCB and the chassis have to be designed with that in mind, so that the switch is held in firmly and makes good contact without solder. You'd be better off getting a hotswap board and saving yourself the hassle.
>>
>>108704523
Wait, what happened to Filco?
>>
>>108704448
It's not hard, but there is a learning curve and it's time consuming. The worst you can do is lift pads or damage traces (which can be fixed) Find something to practise on first. You can get decent hotswap/plug sockets from Aliexpress so you don't have to pay the Mill-Max tax.

Real topre is limited to realforce and hhkb. In the realm of customs, EC boards are starting to pop up but I don't even know of an EC TKL. You can get an HE board and put raeds in it and that's a pretty similar experience, but it still isn't quite the same as genuine topre.

Looking for some buying advice chaps - I've had an old corsair keyboard with MX reds for, as amazon tells me, about 13 years. It still works flawlessly, but some of the keycaps are getting worn down and it's at the point where grim seems to be baked in.

So, having recently upgraded a few things, I'm considering replacing this for the sake of it really.

1) Budget
Honestly not an issue, I'd probably be reluctant to spend more than £250 incl. shipping and tax, but I'm not budget limited.

2) Location
UK.

3) Preferred switch type
I want a linear switch with low actuation force. I'm happy with my MX Reds, I'm happy to go for something lighter or with greater configurability. I don't want anything much heavier and I don't want anything that's overtly tactile but a non-resistive two-stage mechanism at the point of actuation could be OK.

4) Layout
ISO, GB layout.

5) Form factor
100%, probably. I might be persuaded of the notion of a separate numpad, but I do use it from time to date for data entry.

6) Backlight
Don't care, I'll turn it off.

7) Previous/current keyboard
Corsair K70, and I had the big corsair MMO keyboard directly before than (from 2010 perhaps?) but that died on me. I think it used reds too.

As for other points, I don't like anything sharp in sound, so thocky, creamy, marble-y are fine. To be honest, though, I don't want anything very loud. I value keyboard feel foremost, but if something's relatively quiet I think that's a plus. Also - and I'm not sure if this makes sense - but the sound needs to be communicative, E.g. I can hear very easily if I side hit a key by mistake.

Lastly, I would prefer something with a wireless option as I shift my keyboard around quite a bit if I need to use the front of my desk for an extra laptop or some other stuff. I do use the keyboard for playing RTS sometimes. Hot-swappable keys sound intuitively like a good thing. If I have to I'm happy to build it, if pre-built is good that's fine?

Help appreciated!

Not a Model M. A Model F. Aluminium case, steel base plate, capacitive buckling spring, all on brand new molds up to IBM's specifications. This is way better than what Unicomp's selling and it's a one man project. $450 for what you're getting here is basically a bargain.

I've always used gaming mechanicals from corsair or razer. I like the macros and the auto profile switching depending on what program is active. I feel the new keyboards are getting too expensive and build quality is going down, so I'm looking at other offerings. I need macros so stuff like key presses, mouse move to x,y coordinate, click, repeat macros, repeat while key pressed, repeat on toggle. I feel that most of the them when stuff advertise they have programmable macros it's very barebone. I did a little reading and I think QMK is the icue, synapse equivalent? Is it capable of doing those?

>inb4 use autohotkey
>>
>>108709183
Unironically use AutoHotkey. That's how I realize my macros, I have a single script and I expand it depending on what I need. The v2 syntax is more consistent and the documentation is pretty good, it's not that hard.

rainy75, wave75, and RD75 are essentially the same board. Wave75 is just an updated version of the rainy75 and so there's no reason to get the rainy because they refuse to drop the price for some reason. Wave75 is just the export version of the RD75 with more case foam options out of the box so if that's not important to you then just get whichever is cheaper.

I got that wrong, wave75 is the chinese domestic version of the RD75. Both of them are global now so it literally doesn't matter anymore.
Really most of these 75% boards are nearly clones of each other with the only differences being the stock switches. The most unique being the evo75 which has a fancy leaf spring mount for better acoustics/typing feel which is why it's more expensive.
>>
>>108709409
So does this mean that I should prefer evo75? Customer service probably doesn't matter to me though, either way I'm not gonna be dealing with these companies directly
>>
>>108709428
Yeah if you don't care about budget and don't mind that it's not on amazon. Keep in mind the butterfly leaf spring mount is a subtle thing and all the other keyboards you listed essentially have all the same features (without the leaf spring mount) for cheaper.

No, you never respond at any fucking time, in European or American hours.
>>108711052
That's not the case, I just get 0 replies most of the time
>>108711054
It doesn't take any time, what do you mean?

thanks i'll have a look at it. Looks exactly like what i am after.

anything in the middle range you know of?

all that work for cherry mx browns

they don’t answer because nobody cares about prebuilts. if you want the best affordable 75% then just get the neo75. if you want to blow a bunch of money then get a sonnet
>>
So I went from membrane, to 8 years of MX Browns, and soon I'll be on buckling fucking springs.

Guess that's one way to move up in the hobby.

you are not entitled to anyone answering your poll. this is not a tech support service, a buyer's guide, or your favorite inflooencer's discord. it's a niche thread on a niche board on a 22 year old website. i understand being paralyzed by indecision, i struggle hard with that myself, but for the love of god realize where you are. if there was an option on your poll that was just the word "nigger" that would be 100% of the responses.

did you succeed in sucking off enough dicks to fund your $500 purchase?
>>
just buy the Evo or the Neo first
if you like it and you likely will like it, keep it
if you can't scratch the itch, sell it off and get the Rainy or whatever
stop if you are satisfied, rinse and repeat until you've spent more
you want to explore Chinee prebuilt options that badly? it means something more
just act already, be a man of action

Any good keyboard with this layout of arrow keys + pg up+down? Bonus if it has good sized right control key in usual spot
>>
>>108711085
I think you either get injected ABS (cheap) or CNC polycarbonate (expensive). Not much reason for anything in-between. But the Bauer Lite is a little more expensive and seems like a good board, maybe that.

(I'm not partial to 65%, those just happen to be 65% boards. The comparable e.g. TKLs all seem to be sold out.)

What makes a decent cheap office keyboard? AK820 Pro is being used at the moment and liked but it's too noisy for a shared office.
Could swap the switches but I feel like it's worth having a separate keyboard between offices anyway.

outemu silent switches, i have lemons, they are linear. And super quiet, membrane office keyboard type of quiet with bit of that mechanical feel. You can buy them on aliexpress for cheap but u have to hotswap them into your keyboard or buy another shell, i think it still will be cheaper than buying something like logi office keyboards

(I don't know why I said "seems like"... I tried some out at a keyboard meetup... I'd be very surprised if it wasn't as nice a board as I think it is)

Tex Shinobi has it, but it has small right control squished in.

One happy 8-year run of MX Browns deserves another.

It's been my first mechanical keyboard ever, Corsair K70 LUX. Not necessarily the best introduction to mechanical keyboards but it certainly could've been worse. Some of the keys are sometimes binding now and I don't have a switch opener to properly clean them, but also I'd like to finally upgrade to something nice. It's not like I'd be able what I want cheaply so paying out of the ass for a Model F repro isn't that far off from what I would do anyway. At least I'll have a F13-F24 row and those sweet sweet buckling springs, worth the price if I'm gonna pay a premium. I already torture people while typing late at night so w/e. When I checked how much a board that I'd want would run me, it would be ~$140 for the base ~$140 for the keycaps and ~$140 for the switches, so I wouldn't be far off from the Model F repro ballpark.

Now I just have to wait for the transaction to finalize, for Joe to ship it, and then hope the board will survive the transatlantic travel with minimal damage. Might get some extra keycaps later and potentially modify the layout for the 104-key shorter space and two Win/Meta/Super/Code keys. I'll probably get the Model M style keycaps and Unix style diamond keys. Maybe a function key and media keys as well, we'll see once I have the board on my desk. They are $3 a pop after all, but at the same time it's all thick dye sub PBT.

In the meantime I gotta lock the fuck in and send out my resume left and right.

Can anyone post audio of themselves typing and include what switches they're using?

I'd love to hear audio of weird cherry switches like MX petal, blossom, honey, northern light, and purple
