*saves your blu-ray / tv series collection from raping your wallet*

Imagine having to invest in even more HDD/SSD in current times
>>
>>108712636
We have another thread about this >>108705144 and the problem is going to be that most poorfags can't really afford to decode it, at least on phones. Things might get better in a few more years as more poorfag stuff comes with cortex A78 minimum though.
>>
>>108712636
Storage/bandwidth is cheap and nearly unlimited. Only shitskins from literal thirdworld hellholes care for this retarded garbage.
>>
>>108712912
Which ~500 gram tablet comes with a HDD slot?
>>
>>108712636
>scene still using h264 and the occasional h265, because the average poor will have an av1 capable device aroubd 2032 at the earliest
>reencoding your collection of linux distros will cost as much in electricity as just buying a new drive
idk man
I like av1 but the economics of it don’t really make sense. I only really use it for things like OBS recordings or exporting prores videos from my phone that are 20x the size of the output
>>
>>108713608
You can even connect an ssd or a 2.5" hdd to a fucking iphone, surely it’s possible to connect it to le open android chinesium?
>>
>>108713893
Scene uses those because AV1 is a meme streaming codec that can only produce low quality encodes
>>
Avif won.
>>
>>108712636
slowest codec to compress
>>
>>108712912
Retard, all storage has become more expensive because of ai slop bubble
You must be retarded to be willing to pay inflated prices for spinning rust
>>
>>108714282
Yes but I have a beefy PC that does it for me when I'm not home using it
>>
>>108714502
You're only proving how worthless it is for most uses
>>
>>108714507
Why is it worthless? I encode my blu-ray remuxes once, and I have them in high quality efficient av1 forever
>>

except any device made after 2000s can play back av1.
>>
>>108714514
For most uses, i.e. MOST USES. Ask any content creator (not you)
>>
>>108712636
I have yet to have this beat x265 using handbrake. Even letting it run placebo slow and a CQ of 30 it will bloat files larger than the original.
>>
>>108713893
Hardware Decoding has been a thing in mobile devices for years
>>
>>108714559
LOL
What fucking settings are you using? And what source material are you encoding?
>>
>>108714685
I named them already. Everything is the same as the built in template except I turned down the quality constant to 30 and the encoding speed down to 1 to give it plenty of opportunity to do a good job. Yet it keeps blowing way past the source file. Source file is about 800MB and I would like it to be around 300MB done. It's just some hour long video of a whore fucking herself with an overly large dildo machine. I didn't really care what it was, that video was just convenient.
I gave up on it for a while since I have some actual shows that need encoded now.
>>
>>108712636
>blu-ray collection
Raping the pristine grain, you mean.

>>108714282
That meme hasn't been true for a while now.
>>
>>108714804
>encoding an already losslessly compressed video
>using default settings of handbrake
well clearly you have no idea what you're doing, and since you only want to compress an already small porn video which is probably shit quality anyways, I'm not wasting time spoon-feeding you
>>
>>108714841
>raping grain
Oh, so you really don't know? lol
Read up on av1 features

Anon, I know all about that simulacrum. I was in fact specifically alluding to it. Sit the fuck down.
Can it replicate tiny hairs that appear for a single frame without the temporal filter erasing it out of existence? Yeah, didn't think so.
>>
>>108714865
Sounds like you have no idea how to make it do what I want. A useless codec, just like you. Meanwhile x265 will compress it just fine.
>>

How pathetic.
If you actually want help, ask for it, don't make shit up or pretend you already know when clearly you don't know shit.

Read up on the current trendy psychovisual metric and what it was coined from.
>>
>>108712636
imagine raping the quality of your disc-rips.
av1 is for corps trying to reduce their upload cost.
>>
>>108714514
>high quality
>av1
Pick one, you can't have both.
>>
>>108712636
1 - Why do you need HDDs if you have blurays?
2- if you absolutely want to re-encode your disks and waste HDD space, why not use something faster and better like h265 or h264?
>>
>>108716842
I do my own A/B tests and pick high quality settings and film grain synthesis to get the same visuals back
>>108717098
When have you tried playing actual blu-ray discs? it's a dogshit experience, and includes ads.
Faster doesn't bother me, I want the best quality per GB, and I have a beefy PC that can encoding at a decent enough speed on CPU alone.
>>
>>108718186
>I do my own A/B tests and pick high quality settings and film grain synthesis to get the same visuals back
doubt. post comps
>>
>>108718186
High-quality video storage per gigabyte implies that data should never be re-compressed. You will always lose detail when doing so. Especially when using tricks like smoothing+fake grain.

It's all relative though. If you watch movies on a monitor in front of you, a phone, a 150" projector screen, or if you actually value visual quality, most people do not care at all about such details, which is why streaming services have been successful. So do what you want. If I'd recompress blurays, I'll know in the back of my head it's inferior quality and lets me enjoy it less.

>>108717098
Backup and not having to switch discs, the later being extremely convenient.
>>
>>108722098
I have it so dialed in, that even pixel peeping won't show real differences
>>
>>108712636

Brainlet poorfag
>>
>>108723100
why? are you retarded or just brown?
>>
>>108714559
Which AV1 encoder are you using? I have never had this problem even with autism levels of grain synthesis. I use SVT-AV1 btw.
>>
idk how to work with grain on libsvtav1 so its shit
>>

Not him: Op here and I also use SVT-AV1

It's legit possible if you're not a complete hill billy cousin diddler inbred, and buy MLC micro SD cards (instead of slop TLC/QLC ones), which have data retention of 10+ years (ie similar to LTO tape). Obviously you're gonna have to compress your movies, not much space for 100GB blu-ray muxes...

>tfw picrel was $40 a few years ago
FUCK this AI jewish kike shit, I don't give a fuck about vibe coding, I don't give a fuck about AI shit on my web browser/OS/fridge/toaster.
