I work at microsoft. I recently had a bug with Xbox on PC refusing to download a game, but I found a reddit thread where someone had a workaround that would make it work, and people asked why has that thread been up for 3 years but microsoft hasn't fixed it yet. Well, in this specific case, it could be the fault of the xbox app, the windows network driver, the xbox azure subscription configuration, the xbox vm driver (the vm is probably linux), the azure host networking driver, the azure host networking hardware, the storage backend networking, the storage backend hardware, the load balancers, the edge routers. That's probably 20-25 teams at minimum, and I work for one of them. The problem won't get fixed because I don't know whose fault it is and I don't have time to spend months having meetings with every team to figure out who's at fault. How is a big company supposed to not implode

I'm going to be honest, ever since GPT got sort of good a year ago, I have been using it as well as some LLMs for all my coding needs. Alot of those are scams. CS50 from harvard isn't bad if you really miss some of the intro level topics. You need to download PDF's and filter against indian names on the text to get some topics down. Beyond that classes are useless without some bigger project to build towards. Try deploying a web server with a website within a Bare metal Hypervisor 1 setup. It'll teach you the barebones basics of how those things work and you can test it with a PC on the system to see if it passes data. GNS3/Proxmox ect.

I feel so stuck professionally. I've been working in Helldesk for about 7 years at this point, ping-ponging up and down the ladder and from company to company. At one point I was able to jump up to Product Manager but the company I was at went through some pretty severe layoffs and I left due to an ultimatum to move to a HCOL area. Around that time is when all the tech companies started doing mass layoffs and I started having to compete with people with years of experience. While my current job is a fairly light load, I feel like I've grown less patient as I've gotten older and jumping up to SysAdmin isn't going to be something I can tolerate. I don't really know what else I could do. I feel like I should leave tech but then I'd need to start all over because what skills even transfer?

They only hire computer scientists as students but when I came in I fixed so much for them that they made an exception for me. My designation is physical science, which is close enough I guess since I'm physically interacting my keyboard with my fingers to conduct science. I'm really having it hard . I can’t send as many job applications as I would like due to my location . Most jobs aren't hiring from Africa . The local market here is also in the pits way worse than the global market. No opportunities here . The few opportunities I get that accept EMEA end up ghosting no replies . Others are straight up scams. I’m averaging a total of 4 applications in a month . I know I need to send more applications to increase my chances but theres literally no job vacancies that I can send my resume to .

It's really comfy nowadays because I wake up whatever hour I want, have a few meetings between 10AM to 1PM, and generally have a pretty flexible schedule in which I work at whatever hours I feel more productive, but I've read PMs have much more work pressure and are supposed to be always available during regular office hours (ie 9 to 5)

Fuck it, I'm done. I'm quitting my job after my bonus paycheck and leaving the industry. I'm sick of being a servant of evil, I'm sick of AI, I'm sick of Indian accents. I'm done. Gonna rent out my expensive apartment then go home and take care of my parents and their farm. I'll do freelance or part time work if I feel like it. Is it normal to have zero desire to study/develop skills outside of work? Like its nessecary to avoid becoming a laggard boomer who is left behind by changes in technology/industry, but after spending 8 hours a day doing thing I really don't want to spend another 2+ hours outside of work doing more of same thing.
