New grad, first time looking for full time job. Recently accepted an offer, but later another job came up with way better career opportunities. I'm thinking about reneging the offer that I already accepted. However it feels so wrong, and the people I've talked to have been really nice to me. I cannot risk having no job, so I accepted the first offer fully prepared to renege it. Please just tell me it is alright to do this.

I know it's a good thing that my manager is telling me the truth but it's burning me out even more that he's just like "oh we this REALLY BIG project incoming and nobody knows what the fuck they're doing, neither do I but the stakeholders are hoping it's a big success."

Don't have loyalty to a job. Even if they act nice to you they will have no problem firing you in an instant. Your employer is not your friend, it's your job.

I have done the best I could. Guide. Teach. But the problems getting in the way are systemic. Large and wide. Leadership does not know, does not care or does not want to understand the roots problems.

I cannot blame them. God knows everyone has a lot on their plates.

Upstairs are drunk on the promises made by cognitive technology providers. Is not enough for them lead a new edge of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, they want to be the protagonist of the Fifth, and the Sixth one, and so on, and so on.

War does not help either, but cannot be an easy excuse to bail out responsibility.

Everything can happen these months. And insecurity is the enemy of profit.

Actually woke up feeling motivated for once and decided to tackle some of our broken business processes.
After hours of work, I came up with a real solution. So I put together a 15-minute PowerPoint, scheduled a remote call with my manager and laid out exactly how we could scrap this dysfunctional process for the good of the company.
His response? "Yeah, but hmmm... did you try following the process?"
JESUS FUCK, DUDE. I spent hours dissecting this broken piece of shit precisely because I followed it, that's how I know it's broken. You think I built an entire slide deck on a whim? You think I'm trying to fix something I never bothered to use?
The process is the problem, and the answer is "have you tried more process?"
What a waste of time
I'm never doing this shit again

You'll experience this a lot in life. A lot of people are polite until they're not. Some of the best examples are the people who work at apartments. They act really nice to you when you're looking for a place to stay, but then suddenly you're a huge bother once you sign the lease. It's a honey trap 95% of the time. As long as you didn't sign any real paperwork you're probably fine.
>>
>>108760313
Yeah, shit happens several times with me. It's even worse when I bring it up with management then they bloat it up to something enormous and then drop my whole plan because "oh it didn't meet my expanded requirements".

I honestly have no idea what to do with my life. I've made it a habit to create lists and work through them like they are some boring side quest. E.g. hit the gym, take your supplements, do your laundry, visit an art museum, plan a vacation in Norway, learn how to play the guitar, buy a book related to certification, ...
If I didn't do any of that I'd just end up wasting my time working, playing video games, mindlessly browsing this site and the internet and masturbating to degenerate shit.

anyone else here think the tech industry has become mature? for the last few months, i've had this persistent feeling that the entire industry has shifted into maintenance mode, with the exception of a few ai hyperscaler companies.

i honestly can't recall doing anything useful or new at my jobs over the last few years. most of the tasks are just keeping legacy systems running and migrating from one internal tool to another. almost 0 new features, 0 new projects, 0 interesting or fresh work.

with the exception of ai, it feels like everything is dead. i remember 2000s and 2010s - there was the mobile boom, the internet boom, the number of users was growing worldwide, the arrival of the cloud... now it’s like everything has died off and only ai is left. even ar/vr and crypto are dead....

That's basically what happened to the legal industry in the 90's they made a bunch of shows/movies to drown out the employment market so the prices of lawyers would stagnate if not already dropping in price compared to inflation. The reason for the build up and huge need for it was the fact that we shifted from manufacturing to financial services and became a nation with a huge need to maintain its reserve currency status.

IT/Tech as a whole followed the same situation since it was essentially sold to the employer as a means to get more work out of fewer employees, we know this to be true, but after a certain point it stagnates.

Well atleast plumbers make in orders of magnitudes more money than any other trade job out there. Electricians just barely beat out Diesel mechanics since its easier to start a business with the former than the latter.

I would recommend getting into test equipment on aircraft by doing a Avionics job for the airport. Your IT/Tech skills will carry over to some extent but the pay is really good since you already have a degree. They also will generally pay for your tools(to a point) and education if required by the contract. It would also give you flexibility to move to a government contract since they can trust you to work on a plane then its not a larger step to work for the government.
>>
>>108761155

>>108761166
I'm almost certain Aussies also have to buy tools but if they are provided in Australia they might as well be mattel plastic play toys aka as cheap as possible since they live off of monopoly money.

For the Aerospace industry they do provide the more expensive tools but the basic hand tools are bought by the employee.

Its not that bad if you are smart with your money and only buy the high end stuff for shit that breaks frequently but if you go hardcore on a brand like Snap-On/MAC/Matco ect then your just wasting money for a brand name.

I feel the opposite. It's a super useful tool that lets me get shit done way faster than I used to be able to and figure out new stuff on my own without having to bother an engineer on a particular project or hunt down some gay ass discord or irc channel or something and hope someone responds. You still have to know what you're doing for anything complex that involves things like memory management, concurrency, or network security stuff. same reason they dont balk at paying millions if not billions per year on IT jannies when they could instead just design something properly for one big lump sum once

If they paid you the money then your fucked.

If it's baked within an offer letter that you haven't signed then whatever. They can't blackball you from the industry since it would be bullshit to force you to sign a contract you haven't signed.

If you signed it, got paid and reneged after then you are better off paying them back to not fuck yourself for future employment. The job market ain't great right now.

Is there no reason why more of these jobs could not be done on a part-time basis? I feel like you could cut the hours back to 20-25 a week, cut down on the meetings, give people a 50-60% pay cut and still come out ahead. I also feel like there is a largish pool of people who would love to work part-time for like 45-70k a year.
>>
>>108762193
My help desk does part time. What ends up happening is that college kids work there part time while working on their CS/IT degrees and once they are done with some additional certs they move up or if they are CS they get poached during an internship and never show back up after graduation. Also a few people in my office (IT) work 2 days out of the week down there for extra pay.
>>

That's the entire idea of an MSP. It's the only real growing field for IT in America, mainly at the cost of other jobs.

Does your work responsibilities bleed outside of work hours? Like do you have to play catchup learning / memorizing more stuff outside of work? Maybe it's the documents, maybe it's the tools you aren't good at yet. Maybe there's just so much stuff that needs to get done on weekends.

Is this what's being an adult is about?

Here in third world everybody does that. They really live for work 24/7 and yet despite it all they can still smile and shit, being dependable and reliable. I know they're probably feeling stressed/depressed too but quitting isnt an option and there's no guarantee of better opportunities down the line.

>indian retard can't even answer a simple question involving statistics (I guess)
jfc
>>
>>108763502
LOL the answer is pretty simple too. if there are other objects to compare in the picture like an apple you can get the length and height easily. You can then assume that since a elphant is wider at the base it might be 3 of its feet wide. Then you got a good number of apples from the square to compare too. Muscle is 3 times as dense as fat and a elephant is mostly muscle bound i can assume an apple is only 1lb so fuck it throw some random numbers out like 5x to that base number. Or my off the cuff guess is since they are slightly longer than a honda civic you could stack 8 to cover for the length of them x 2400lbs that i know of for its weight and hope for the closest possible answer. 19200lbs is pretty close to what online shows 1350lbs.

But if you cannot visualize or ask for more context then its going to be hard to see larger structures that require math.
>>
>>108763608
Elephants are 13500
>>
>>108763608
OR you could guess its age from height by googling it, then google it again to find weight by age.
that's not really calculating, but hey, it's an answer, I guess.
>>
>>108760010
absolute banger
>>
>>108763660
Yeah but that might not be what kind of answer they are looking for. At that point just google average weight for an african elephant since most americans only know or think of those elephants. She was clearly looking for some problem solving with just the info given. 3 apples is roughly a foot anyways if you need actual feet to put into the calculation.

>>
>>108763676
I mean, of course the length or height of the elephant are data you will have to take/infer from the pic. and height/length DO correlate to weight.

>>108763683
ok, then ignore the age guessing step, just find data that correlates height to weight.
of course it's not direct (the elephant could be overweight or underweight), but you can ignore that

Age wasn't in the video though. What are you even trying to argue? Did you lose to much Izzart from the video today?

It can be inferred from the question since it lacks context about the animals age that it will be a fully grown adult elephant. If she specified a baby elephant than the math would be the same.
>>
>>108763779
>Age wasn't in the video though.

sure. I didn't say anythong on the contrary. I was just explaining how I would do it.

Your a fucking retard. Age is not apart of the question so the inference is that the elephant is an adult and you have to compare the height/length/width with what is presented in the picture with the elephant. But you are to retarded and would anwser incorrectly by saying"Google these 3 things lol" at that point just google the weight of an elephant since you cannot solve out a question. Not to mention you get stuck on a stupid factor that isn't presented in the question like age. Fucking retarded.

Trust me, low participation is seen as a very bad thing for these surveys it means demotivated workers that aren't complying. Bad survey results can be paired down to dysfunctional individuals, but if only like 20% of employees complete the survey the company will freak our.

No, but you definitely are if you can't see the relation between people giving 0 shits about their work and society collapsing.
Faggots like you are constantly comparing your life against random internet people, saying "ughhh im worth more than this..." and then doing fuck all while getting paid more than 99.9999% of the planet.

Having a job is already slop. Real men are self-employed.
>>
>>108766451
It would be nice if companies were loyal to employees let alone applicants. But unfortunately, that's not how markets work. Finance-wise, companies make decisions that are best for their interests, and people should do the same thing. People who choose to do that have something called bargaining-power (something that I don't think you have). Unless you have a stake in the company, or are relatives of decision makers at the company, why should you believe that they would act solely in your interest, being a random person that they don't know.

And yes, I am against hiring a bunch of H1Bs to come do tech work. Companies treat them worse than born-citizens, and also brings down the overall bargaining-power of non-immigrants.

Stop being a faggot. In the first example, try learning from them or taking inspiration. It's just like instruments, it takes a long time + smart practice to get good. For the second thing, it's even easier because it's a tool for you to use not a different person.

Downsize and stack your money with your current job. You shouldn't be in a rush to leave. You're going to exit and then be an electrician right after. You're going to exit and be doing the bitchwork of a jobsite for 30k a year. If you can even find a job at one.
>>
>>108761205
You're fine anon. Keep leveling up your skills, and you will be dandy. Think about it, if everyone has AI at their fingertips, the only that makes you stand out is knowing what tf you're doing, which most people (trust me) who use AI to do most of their work don't. I can't count the number of bugs, vulnerabilities, and in-efficiencies in software I've seen in commercial software since people have been vibe-coding slop.
>>
>>108766745
*not going to he an electrician

That's literally the most desired trades job, it's hard to fuck to get an apprenticeship. And trades is oversatured now, in general. Once boomers start saying "you should do X job", it's too late. Translate that as "you should have gotten into X job 5-10 years ago".
>>
>>108761391
I'm sure you're trying your best anon, but you're the type of recruiter that I can't stand. Do you not understand that anyone who is applying straight from Indeed is not reading your shit? >>
>>108766751
No, it's completely over anon. We are all one Claude breakthrough away from being irrelevant. I already can't even imagine why somebody would hire a frontend dev today. It's over.

>learn to flip burgers
>learn to tardwrangle
>learn to change elderly patients diapers
>learn to sell your bussy by the overpass across from Walmart

Those are the only jobs that will be open soon.
>>
>>108761533
Keep going until you get a salary offer that your wife is willing to move for. If it doesn't work out, then oh well. Either way, it's hard to get a remote job as a junior dev, a lot of companies don't want to have to deal with training you up on how to work within an organization without you being there in person.

Calculators don't make dumb mistakes and hallucinate. LLMs are useful, but I would not trust it to sort a list with even slightly important data. Especially if its a big list. I would trust it to write Python code that can sort a list, and that's why a lot of LLMs are being trained to use calculators and Python for complex tasks.

I blame the boomers for this. They pushed this forced meme of corporate loyalty whilst they fucked everyone else beneath them. Top that off with their extreme wealth powering VC funded dickheads who have no interest in making the bare minimum of a viable product without operating at a massive loss, and you are bound to create this environment of mass layoffs, enshittification, just to try and fix it with flooding low-paid jeets after they've fucked any other sensible company out of their respective industry.

Nigger are you retarded? WFH makes life a billion times easier. If you want to work with your hands then do it in your free time. At least then you'll be able to afford doing cool shit and any work you do in your free time is what YOU want to do, not busting your ass for work that underpays (trades don't pay well if you're new)

Literally the ideal scenario in life is to WFH with 6 figures because you have no cummute, get paid well, and can spend a lot of your time on personal projects. Like I do a lot of sysadmin/server like work in my free time, but I'm not going to rush into a lower paying sysadmin job that drain all the joy out of the work when my programmer job pays well and let's me stay at home all day and spend money on equipment.

for me personally i see "jobs" as adult daycare with some national interests in securing domestic industry and know-how mixed in. economically, it barely makes sense for companies to hire as much as they do, but it's in the government's best interest that everyone is working and doing stuff that can one day be useful in a trade war or whatever. and it's better that they're not spending their time rioting. like historically the reason we didn't become 50% or more unemployed after the industrial revolution or gilded age is because the dreaded luddites and commies respectively screamed and raved so much that capital owners and the government had to step in to give people jobs. the pursuit of egalitarianism is essentially built into the western ethos, really ever since the plague wiped out most of the peasants.

the people propagating the idea that we are at the end of history (tm) and capital owners will put slave collars on everyone largely come from a couple of groups. the main one being third worlders who have lived under strongman governments their whole life, who HAVE genuinely had 50% unemployment because they do not care about it the same way that westerners do. again, it mainly comes down to the plague. you can see how much of an effect it had when you compare russia to western countries. the plague never really hit russia properly so they never had a reason to develop past their extractive feudalist economy. they still have that shit. and many of these non-western countries also relish the idea that westerners are now being taken down a peg and are going to live in dirt huts like they do.

the second group is mainly just blackpilled westerners and morons with a limited understanding of history, economics and really a lackluster ability to predict people. if you look at what is going on outside right and not think there isn't massive societal unrest brewing due to the economy then idk man

as a euro i have envied american tech salaries but now i do see strengths in the euro system. as soon as i stopped tryharding at work, all the friction i had with my coworkers has disappeared. it turns out all i needed to do is show up (not even that since i wfh) and just kinda give off good vibes. apparently thats all anyone here does since you cant really get fired. and if you get laid off, its not gonna be your fault specifically, so theres no accountability. and if you get a pay bump or a promotion, its probably not because of anything you accomplished, but rather because it was ordained to you. so meritocracy is dead too. its all like a weird cargo cult effigy of what work should be. im sure the endgame is this with american salaries but that seems harder to accomplish since american managers seem pretty psycho
>>
>>108767900
also yea reading this i am sure it is similar in the american system, i just feel like in the euro system you have a lot more guarantees and fallbacks wrt labor laws, unemployment, healthcare, social safety nets etc. so losing one's job seems more like a minor inconvenience than a homeless-inducing event. for me personally i think i am an american stuck in an european body since the only thing that really motivates me is excessive humiliation and the threat of destitution, neither of which are possible here
