Funny how the most helpful rated review is some guy talking about how to mod it to get better cooling. But beware of the bad reviews: apparently the chipset is ass and you'll have to format your HDD to get it working in the enclosure.

There's some other brands too, just look for "HDD enclosure with fan" but the chipset seems to be very important so read the bad reviews before buying.

Alternatively you can just buy a small desktop fan and direct it at your external HDD. Might be the better solution.

what's a decent 120mm non rgb fan? I'm the 5070 guy again, and while I wait I realized I should prob get some more fans since my prebuild has 3 fans pulling air in, but only 1 sending air out.
also asking non rgb because this prebuild ofc came with rbg fans and after a few months they all stopped doing rbg, just white.

Should I turn on HDR if I'm not using an oled monitor? Is it worth using if I'm not using oled?
>>

No it will just wash out everything on monitors without proper hdr
>>
>>108795428
HDR gets complicated real fast but a few quick pieces of guidance in no particular order;
1) In windows never turn HDR on unless you are going to be consuming HDR content
2) good HDR on the panel side depends on a lot of factors so look at this chart and basically anything below displayHDR 1000 is probably not worth your time
2a) this assumes a regular VA/TN/IPS panel and not a mini LED
3) HDR for vidya is all kinds of a mess for calibrating
4) a lot of "HDR" lcd displays are fucking liars in that they can accept a HDR signal, but not actually display one, so you get what >>108795460 says

Is upgrading from a 4070 to a 5080 at 1080p 144-165hz dumb? I have a 5700x3d as gpu
Just want to "future-proof" and I like to play games at ultra settings (rtx and co on) with high framerates
My dad has a 4k tv so I could hook it up there too and play at native 4k or 1440p I guess

You’d be bottlenecking the 5080 at 1080p even with that cpu, i would tell you to upgrade to am5 with a 9800x3d but the cost rn with ram prices is not worth it. Just keep what you have for now a 4070 will last a while at 1080p.
>>
>>108795486
Vanilla RE9 HDR is kinda broken as it undershoots massively because capcom has spent what, 9 years (iirc RE7 was the first) supporting HDR and still can't get it right? RenoDX can fix it though. Amusingly cyberpunk has dodgy HDR as well due to the colour grading of the game having a green tint and a raised black level.
>>
>>108795496
Depends the game
Crimson Desert and Space Marine 2 I struggle on ultra settings without frame gen (although SM2 runs fine, I see some drops sometimes, but I think that's driver issues perhaps because I haven't updated them in like a year)
Modded Skyrim too although I doubt a new gpu will fix things as it's an engine issue more than hardware

Fron intake, rear exhaust, top rear fan (so it is behind the cpu cooler on the horizontal plane) should also be exhaust. Don't bother with a top fan in front of the cpu cooler as it will mess with the front intake fans. Here is an image I prepared earlier.

rate my eBay special. CPU/RAM/Motherboard are all a combo from the same seller. The GPU is an HP OEM model dual fan RTX 3060 Ti. Pulled from older systems that were retired from my friend's work so he's giving me a low price. Anything you'd say are huge red flags?

it's a mix of cost and my RTX 3060 TI isn't going to push a 1440p monitor anyways in gaming. Even running 1080p in game on a 1440p panel would just look like shit. Way I see it is when prices finally crash on everything and I build some stupidly over powered PC, I'll just get a top tier OLED 4K monitor as my main gaming monitor, and retire these 2 1080p monitors to off duties. Right now I just want to get my PC capable of what I play a bunch. Apex Legends and various single player games. Namely Resident Evil 9 and the new Subnautica title coming out.

I repasted my 3080 some time ago, chink ptm pads are cheap now but its actually pretty involved if you decide to go with specific pad thicknesses as ordering several different pads ups the cost. So I went with putty.

If you got a industrial amount of thermal putty you can use for cheap the effort to opening up a bunch of screws isnt that labor intensive so asking more than 100€ for the operation overall is pretty sus.

A few years ago I switched from a two-monitor to three-monitor setup, and used two pole-type stands. Vivo brand ones off Amazon.
No prior experience with this brand. I picked these because they were cheap, and they looked simple enough that I could modify them if I had to. Also my desk is up against a wall, and I wanted the screens (esp the large one), to be as far back on the desk as possible.

I used the through-bolt option, not the edge clamps. That required driling two 10mm holes through the desk top. Pretty sturdy, one pole has two 24" monitors, the other has a 42" LG tv.

The vesa mounts are two piece, and it's a sliding fit where they go together, secured with a thumbscrew. Out of the box, there was a fair bit of play with that fit (stamped steel pieces), so I used a vise to close up the monitor-sides of the brackets a bit. Tight fit after that.
I've been using them maybe three years now. Cost-effective. I'd buy them again.

probably because it has the same amount of vram, it is a good deal faster just not blow you away faster, probably would have needed a 10070XT for that. at least you got FSR 4.0 and the new RT tech that's coming with RDNA5 will work on the 9070XT.
IMO people need to think about upgrading their GPUs in longer timeframes because moores law is dead. 5 years isn't enough time to wait anymore, you only get a 60% uplift.

That is pretty tight. If you have a lot of exhaust then you can get around the gpu choking that way or have that front fan run with an aggressive fan profile to brute force cool air. Ultimately test and if the gpu is staying giving advertised clocks then it is okay.

>I thought dsc was supposed to be invisible to the user
Only under perfect conditions.

It's very obviously flawed once you start trying to squeeze a golf ball through the proverbial garden hose. To make it understandable, if you need it for just a small amount of compression then its fine. Anything more and it's a crap shoot. As far as latency theres a host of possible factors that can go into dcs latency. If you don't need dcs then you should be fine using dcs. If you absolutely need dcs then you're probably screwed. I wouldn't use dcs for any monitor that's more than 1080p 30hz.

For transferring data i have no idea.
>>
>>108799377
Just another bullshit FUD.
DSC happens at the display controller level (ASIC), not via software.
It’s a fixed-pipeline process with a constant, microscopic, decompression.

Truth is not FUD. You enable DSC through the monitor because the display controller handles it.
DSC cannot cause input lag. Stay in that 2025 BlurBusters thread.
The new 360 Hz Pulsar LCDs are driving DSC just fine with "muh NVIDIA drivers".

That would be retarded since that's the most expensive country on the continent. Eastern Europe is where you get cheap shit. Though nowadays its the same price as ordering off Amazon.de

it can add anywhere between 0.5ms to 1.5ms of latency which is huge for a oled which is supposed to have 0.03-0.02ms gtg.
>>
wasn't the science behind lossless dsc just gathering a bunch of randos in a room and asking them if they saw a difference

I recently bought a 4K, 240 Hz QD-OLED monitor (Gigabyte FO32U2) and, although I'm pleased with its picture quality, the DSC technology is terrible. I never experienced any black screens on my old Gigabyte M27QP (1440p, 170 Hz) LCD monitor connected to my RTX4080S, but as soon as I connected the OLED monitor with DSC enabled, I started seeing them. The latest firmware update for my monitor has drastically reduced the frequency of black screens, so it's tolerable.

DSC however affects my aiming very noticeable and that's not tollerable. I have played quake 1 / 2 / 3 since 1999 and my aiming and reaction time is much better compared to average gamers. With DSC enabled, my aim is no longer accurate. I don't know if it's a lag issue or if the GPU drivers don't sync mouse movement correctly, but my precision takes a big hit with DSC enabled. Not even Vsync, or DLSS FG reduce my precision so much. Luckily my monitor has DSC switch and 1440p 240Hz is still very usable from up close on such big monitor (my monitor has dedicated 24'inch 1440p picture mode).

That is how all audio and visual tests work anon. It is why in many circles the harman target for headphones is a taboo subject.

He's a shitposting faggot. DSC adds almost no latency, whatever added is imperceptible.
DSC is applied to a vehicle's camera monitoring systems and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

>Using OSRTT, we measured display latency on the MSI MPG 341CQPX with DSC on and off, and there was no difference except for the margin of error. At 165Hz, display latency was 4.714ms with DSC on, and 4.718ms with DSC off.

This is what Radeon card owners do to cope with their purchase and to avoid getting brand war reports.

pretty much. its visually lossless to the human eye but they never asked them how it feels.

dsc is a complicated handshake chain if one step in that chain is broken it fucks everything up from latency to nvidia black screens.
>>
>>108799675
I'm not reading that obvious shitpost.
DSC physically cannot affect the PC's input lag. That's not how this works.
DSC is reliable enough to be applied in automotive consoles & electronic mirrors.
>>
Just buy a HDMI 2.1 or Displayport 2.1 display and you dont have to deal with DSC.

Not complicated. Those handshake issues only happen in less common setups like a triple widescreen racing sim.
You're not getting high refresh rates at that gaming setup to rely on DSC anyway.

In your dreams.

I had dsc flashing with dual monitor already. It depends on screen Res and FPS from what I remember so having a 4k + non 4k Monitor may have more noticeable and longer flashing than two monitors with the same res
>>
>>108799773
That's a Windows (DWM) issue, not NVIDIA or DSC.
DWM-related black screens are usually limited to when you're alt-tabbing, not during gameplay.
>>
>>108799811
yea I forgot to mention when the resolution changed e.g. when a game starts or at alt tabbing
